June 2014 Online Flea mart

shcfleamart

The guidelines and regulations for advertising on the online flea mart have been revised to include more services and to widen the scope of personal items or services.  Comments/queries regarding an advertisement are now permitted.  Personal advertisers should inform readers if their advertised items have been sold  so that the usefulness of the online flea mart to members can be assessed.

If you have personal/’professional’ skills like dressmaking, clothes alteration,  repairing / mending/fixing…. do advertise your services.  This online flea mart site is here to serve members (not companies), so do make full use of it.

 :)   Guidelines (regulations)

1. Members can advertise twice per month

2. Each advertisement must not be longer than 10 lines.  More than 10 lines, ads will automatically be withheld.

3. Members can advertise their personal services. eg, dress alteration, plumbing, cooking, cake making, bak chang sale, care services, etc.  Personal items from your home are welcome.  Corporate services and items of companies are not allowed under the Online Flea mart Post.

5. Enquiries/comments  regarding the item/service advertised are permitted but NOT  chatting.

6. For contacting the member, you may provide e-mail addresses instead of telephone numbers.  Mis-use for MLM and collecting names for other advertising is strictly not permitted.

7.  URLs are not permitted.

  1. I wish to sell my Dahon Vitesse folding bike as I cannot see myself cycling any more at my age! This bike is very little used and is now sitting in my back balcony looking very forlorn in its protective bag. I have not opened the bag to check it, but maybe will do so soon…if someone expresses an interest. Now what price do I want? I thought a good approach is to auction it off (on this post) to the highest bidder with a reserve price of $350. That’s less than half the price of a new bike. So what say you?

  2. 2 yoga mat (brand new) purole and green color, auction off, retail price about $18 each

1 luggage trolley bag green colour about 24″x 18″ auction to highest bidder. Luggage trolley bag is brand new

1 red jacket (wore 1 time only ) auction off

interested I will email or whatsapp photo

  3. I believe Flea Market is a place where people who want to sell off their wares by tagging reasonable prices (just one price only) to them. Flea market is never intended to be used for the purpose of auction of wares in any circumstance. Certain conditions are to be made known if wares are going under auctions such as age n condition of wares, mode of payment, place to deal, etc. Best place to place wares for auction is Ebay.

  4. There’s no guideline or regulation on this Online Fleamart post that auction is not allowed… Anyway, any offer at $350 will be seriously considered….
This is intended as a simple transaction… I don’t intend to make it a convoluted process…
You can view the bike and decide or you can just walk away. Simple!

    1. Yes, Kenneth, I want to say I am pleased to see your support for the Online Fleamart. While Yew Kwong has plenty of experience in auctions and the use of eBay, SilverHairsClub, Online Flea mart is more general and it tries to put all personal sales, rent, and services under this Post.

I encourage all members to look into your kitchen, storerooms and wardrobes, living rooms, and kids’ rooms, and clear those unwanted items.

Kenneth, I wish you a fast sale of your bicycle.

      1. If you have a lot of stuffs in your house, and wish to clear theme, announce on this forum you have a garage sale on a certain date and times. I am sure you will be able to clear your fishing rods, dresses, shirts which you bought for your husband but he never wears.

Maybe you are waiting to buy a thermal pot, but have too many pots. Kids overgrown, and you have a monopoly set, a Carom board, another almost new bicycle, a printer or some sewing balls.

Announce your garage sale yet. Maybe you can provide some hot water and tea. Keep thinking.

  5. Not selling anything for the moment, but seriously considering Terence’s suggestion of a garage sale – quite a number of things to clear (some not even used).
I am actually looking for this novel “Hold The Dream” by Barbara Taylor Bradford. It’s a very old title and our libraries do not have it anymore. Have enquired at some second-hand bookshops, but no luck there also. So, I am wondering if anyone has this book and would like to sell or lend my daughter. She read the first book and wants to continue the series.

  6. Hi Caroline, your search for the said book can be easily solved if you learn a bit about online buying. Come and join our “ITIG” – IT Interest Group. I do conduct free lessons in one of the Community Clubs on topics of interest to the 50plus.

At the moment, I am conducting a 12-sessions course on IT for the 50plus in Bukit Merah Library. This includes how to use the Internet properly including online transactions.

Since there is so much talk in this forum on online business, I as well is thinking of conducting a free discussion on online business which includes how one must consider in order to make his/her online business sustainable.

The talk is scheduled in July. Once the details are finalized, registration will only start in the first week of July.

    1. Based on feedback from members, I have decided to relax the items and services that can be placed in the monthly Online Fleamart. From now:

      1. Members may place their House/Apartment for rent or sale. If you are looking for a house or apartment to rent or buy, you may also do so. I believe this is retirement friendly.

      2. Property agents (members only) will be treated as paying advertisers.

      3. The same criteria will be applied to vehicles of all sorts.

  7. Hi Hew Lee & Yew Kwong

Thanks for the info. Have actually done those before posting here – found the prices too expensive, thought would have better luck here. Anyway, will try to ask a friend going to Delhi to look for it there (maybe better luck there) or get a used/new one in London.

    Caroline
