myanmarmap    yangon3  Hi guys and gals, I am going to Yangon, Myanmar again, this time on 18 Aug 2014 and back 20 Aug 2014.  If you can organise your air ticket, you can stay with me. terences@SilverHairsClub.com. There is Jetstar, tiger air and airasia.  Try it.

My next trip is IN Fri 03 Oct 2014 OUT Mon 06 Oct 2014.  Have to do it quick as 06 Oct is a public holiday. I have time to extend my trip to organise a trip for fellow SHCians, similar to the one we last organise.  Yangon is growing fast.  Come see the place before it becomes another Ho Chi Minh.  Say a few words if you are interested.

  1. Hi everybody,
A way I normally fly to Yangon is via Bangkok. I spend a few days in Bangkok, and then fly to Yangon via Don Muang airport (the old airport). Nowadays, I find AirAsia and NokAir efficient and good value.

Sometimes, I fly the other way round, and that is Sin/RGN/Bkk/Sin.

If I make arrangements for say xx – yy Sept, you may fly earlier or later by 1-2 days.

  2. Hi Terence,

Thanks for sharing your Yangon schedule with us. I will not be able to make it for August and early Oct. May be able to make it after 8 Oct. Whatever it is, please continue to share with us and if I can make it, I will love to make a trip to Myanmar.

  3. If you are keen on visiting Myanmar, but is unable to make it during my availability, do say something here, so I can keep in touch with you over Whatsapp. I tend to forget if you speak with me; but if you write it down, either on this forum or on Whatsapp, I tend to remember.

  10. Dear members interested in Yangon,

My coming trip to Yangon on 18 Aug 2014 and back 20 Aug 2014 is a business trip. I have found a partner, so this date is closed.

The next trip is IN Fri 03 Oct 2014 OUT Mon 06 Oct 2014, and likely extended to 07 Oct 2014. This is almost confirmed, and will run along the similar lines as the last SHC trip to Yangon.

  12. Hi Terence
My friend not keen to go. Now left myself alone. Need to look for room-mate or get single room. Can you confirm you are staying at Kaung Su San Hotel? If I fly in earlier, is it safe to walk around the city alone? Also how many weeks ahead should I make my visa?
Hope you can clarify my queries. Thank you.
    Laura

  13. Hi Terence
I have checked the Myanmar visa application procedure. I am afraid I lack the time to do online application and get queue number in the morning during weekday as my working hours do not permit me to take leave in the morning. Looks like I have to withdraw from this trip with great regret. We are advised to do the visa first before buying airtickets/book hotel. Just fyi.
    Thank you.
    Laura

  14. Hi Laura, Helen, Dolly and members following up on Myanmar,

Applying for the Myanmese visa does require the applicant to go in the morning to apply and then pick up the passport in the late afternoon. Myanmar is still a virgin country. The city center is clean, modern and similar to most other growing cities in Asia. There are many unexplored and traditional places which the new tourists have yet to see. But, many places will also be gone soon within our lifetime, as new deveopments take place.

Singapore has a big community in Yangon, many who have been there for more than 20 years. Some have started their own business, under the Myanmese culture and ways, and have done well. In fact, Singapore is one of the leading countries where companies have sent staff over to study the market. Singaporeans and Singapore are very well acknoledged by Myanmese people.

In 2015, Myanmar will have its election, and countries like the US, the EU, Asia and business groups are following closely to observe the democratic process. Many companies have already set their foothold in Yangon, Mandalay, its new capital city. The results of the election will decide how the country progresses. It is likely that huge amount of investment capital will enter Myanmar then, and the country will change. At that time, Myanmar will change.

Take this time to see Myanmar before you see more buildings and traffic.

  17. Hi Jenny,

The tour will not be cancelled, even if the group is small.

I am discussing with the guide and the coach and the hotel this week, so I should finally by next week.

    Terence Seah

  18. Hi Terence,

Good news to hear from you that the trip will still be ON and you are make the extra effort to finalize guide, coach and the hotel.

Heard that visa is needed Cost of processing around $60 and 10 days before travelling is sufficient for approval. Is it correct?

Hope to hear from you next week.
    Susan Tan

  19. Susan,

I am not sure where u heard the info from. I can collect the visa on the same day.

This time, I do my visa in Bkk and it cost about 60 SGD for same day collection.

  20. The dates to Yangon are confirmed.
    IN 3 Oct OUT 7 Oct 2014.

The program is similar to the last Yangon trip. Please read the Post on the last trip if you are coming.

Hotels are very expensive, it is normal for a hotel to range USD 180 for 4-5 stars. The last group stayed at Kaung Su San Hotel in Chinatown. I will confirm that all of us will stay at the same hotel. I am going to the hotel tomorrow morning. If you are coming, please let me know, as I can pay for the hotel first. After tomorrow 22 Aug 2014 noon, you will do your own booking. Sorry, I wont be able to book for you after 12nn. You may book yourself at Agoda.com.

I do not know the price yet, but I think it will cost SGD 65 per room, for two pax. Tax included. Some conversion may be needed, as the hotel charges in USD.

You are required to book your own flights. Please get your own visa too at the Myanmar embassy.

I am arranging the land cost which will cover travel, coach, guides, entrances. Food will be taken care by you, but they are very reasonable. All these will be shared by the group.

So, booking for hotel, let me know by today or tonight. Not refundable.

If you like to know what the trip is about, visit the last post by the last group.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  21. Thks Terence, What time will the tour starts on the 3rd Oct as flights in to Yangon is only in the afternoon? So I can apply for the visa and book the airtickets too.

  22. Hi Jenny and members considering coming to Yangon,

Like in the last trip, fly into Yangon anytime you like. You will be staying in Chinatime, and there are enough things to look around, eat and buy. Free 1st day at your leisure.

    Terence Seah

  23. Participants to the Yangon trip,

For hotel room bookings, those who are interested to go to Yangon, please use agoda.com. This is cheaper too.

    I am leaving Yangon soon.

    Terence Seah

  24. Hi Terence. Sorry to let you know that I can only confirm going on this trip by 5th Sep, as there ie an urgent appt at SGH on the 4th Sept. Hope that is not too late. If is too late then I have to give this trip a miss. Thks Jenny

  25. Hi LilyH, JennyL and SusanT and members,

No worries if you cannot make this trip. I go to Myanmar regularly. Usually, I plan 3-4 days for my business trip, and where possible, I can add a few days to keep you company. The Oct trip is ON.

For those who would like to see Yangon, do visit it before the major changes come along. Myanmar will have an election in Dec 2015, and depending on how the international community see the results of the election, many international organisations would be deciding how they would go ahead with their investments, in one of the last open countries in the world.

In Jan 2016, AFTA would enable Myanmar to import goods from ASEAN countries at no, or almost no tax.

So, come and see Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw the new capital city) before the major changes take place in our lifetime.
