The concept of the Event Organiser EO

10 years ago, when the idea of SilverHairsClub started, I was thinking how to keep SHC alive for a long time. At that time, there were few activities, although the monthly gathering was what kept many members coming.  The concept of the Event Organiser EO developed over the years, and today, I see EOs as the key reason why the Club does not have a management committee.

Over the years, we have tried having a management committee, but this ideas has not been successful.  One reason which I have observed is our general membership tends not to respond to or accept a management committee.  Many have voiced staying on with the EO concept.  The other reason which some members have silently and behind the scene told me is “The reason why the management committee failed was because I did not enpower the committee members”.  There is some truth with this viewpoint.

However, over the years, I have come to accept that a management committee does not work in SHC, although we can see successful management committees with most other Clubs.  This explains why you see a less structured organisation within SHC in recent years,

Personally, I would like to see a committee work within SilverHairsClub, I am receptive to the committee idea, if someoneoffers to take the lead.  My business travel has made it almost impossible to spend more than a few days each month in Singapore.

In the meantime, what has worked so far is our EOs have kept SHC alive and going.

Please share your thoughts.  No right and no wrong.  You have your viewpoint.

  1. For July 2015, I am hoping that RichardW can be the EO for the monthly gathering.

Let’s look around our men members. Do raise your right hand, if you can volunteer as EOs.

Oct 2015 is SHC 10th anniversary. We have not had an activity in mind. So, the options are open. Share your ideas here, or Whatsapp me for a chat.

In Dec, or even Nov, we usually have a Dinner and Dance. We have no EO yet.

I hope that every member will be an Event Organiser EO for an activity once in the life time of his/her membership in SilverHairsClub. So, if you have not been an EO, please work on it.

  2. Hi Terence,
When and where is the monthly gathering to be held?
Just curious to know if my schedule clashes.

  3. Hi RichardW,

It is important that every member play a part in organising one activity during the lifetime of his/her membership. This is the basis why we do not charge for membership and also why we do not have a permanent organising committee.

EOs spent time, money and effort, and very often we are asked why EOs are not rewarded. Members enjoy the activities organised by other members, and it would be very nice and appropriate if fellow members play a part.

The Club appears to run free, without costs, but in reality, it is not true. What I ask of members is to organise one activity, including the monthly gathering, once during the lifetime of the membership. Activities are key to providing a platform for SilverHairs to meet new and more friends.

As a senior member and a active one too, I hope you will help to show our ways and traditions to other members and make SilverHairsClub a successful club. It takes some effort and time. Please consider.

  4. An Event Organiser EO is a member who organises activities only for SHC members eg monthly gatherings, and other gatherings where non-members are not allowed to participate. A registration list is required.

An Event Coordinate EC is also a member, but who organises activities for a group of members and a group of non-members. A registration list is also required; but only SHC members names can be published.

If you are unsure, please contact any of the senior members who will definitely be able to advise you. You may also contact +6594894360 giving an idea of your activity. Activities related to religion, politics, sex, race and direct selling and MLM are not accepted. We try to give some leeway to direct selling, if approved by SHC Admin admin@silverhairsclub.com.

All members are expected to organise at least one activity as an EO during the life of the membership. This is the basis on how we can continue to have free membership to SilverHairsClub, and to have varied activities to fellow club members.
