WA holiday

Hello SHCians

Haven’t written quite a while and am back in Perth for the cool weather.

In case anyone is coming to Perth, I’ll be travelling down southwest WA to Busseltong and Balingup with 3  friends. We 4 ladies are booked to stay in a farm cottage, hoping to pick the last few apples and going to some fruit wineries etc. This is followed then by a spot of fisihing in Busseleton where 1 of the friends live.

From reading the travel news I can see there are some keen travellers off to other places. Hope to join in some of the tours organised by you some of you.

Regards

Joan (Perth)

  1. Hi Joan
I am rather unknown in SHC and would like to widen my circle of friends.
I am quite interested in travelling to Perth and I am wondering whether I will be welcomed to join you all especially I am the thorn among the roses.
Do you think you can give us some specifics on the travel to Perth beside the purchase of a plane ticket. What are the itinerary, the mode of accommodation, the duration of tour in Perth and the costs.
    Regards

  2. Hi Robert

Thank you for your comment. It’s not that we don’t welcome you butI have already booked to travel with 3 other friends, making it 4 of us (all ladies in our 50s to 70s). It’s good if there are others interested in visiting Perth and you can form your group. Normally a family car takes a max of 5 people unless you get a 7/8 seater. Also a 3 BR chalet takes about 5 people unless it’s a bigger place. This may help in the logistics and working out the costs.

It’s my 1st time staying at this place in Balingup though I’ve driven to the town before. I sourced it from the internet and accomodation there costs AUD 130 per night for two and every additional person $10 more. Max is 5 persons. So it works out to $300 for 4 pax for 2 nights.

As 1 of the friends live in Busselton, we’ll stay with her. In return we take care of the petrol and food. So everything gets even out.

What I find great about WA is that here we share out everything – accomodation, food and as a result we have a great time and then try to plan out another event.

My post was to let others know what I do in Perth besides golf etc. I will let you know after my trip in May if the chalet is good so that you can plan a spring trip when the weather is again cool.

    Regards
    Joan

  3. Hi Joan,

It’s kid’s school holidays and I was thinking of making a similar trip. Tell us about your trip when you are back. I guess it will be a great adventure too.

  4. Hi All

I never realised that Balingup and Brdgetown can be so spectacular and colourful with all the autumn colours at this time of the year with reds, orange, yellow and even purple! I hope to get hold of one of these trees to plant in my back garden.

We stayed 2 nights at the farm and rewarded with delicious apples that we picked and brought back to Perth. The journey from Busselton to Balingup where we picked up and dropped off a friend only took 45 min and from Busselton to Perth 2 and 1/2hrs. I managed to buy some fruit wine at the winery.

  5. Hi All especially Mary and Agnes

If anyone is interested in WA sightseeing places, you can contact me. This may interest single female travellers or small groups who may want to organise self-drive trips. I will volunteer to drive preferably just 2-3 ladies. It will be cost-sharing eg petrol, accomodation and you can order what you like for your meals wherever we stop. Also you need to arrange your own flights to/from Perth.

I am in Perth about 3 times a year and like to get away for trips to nearby places in WA and other Aussie states.Besides me, there are Agnes, Mary and other SHCians who may be free to join in. If there are common interests in activities, food, places of interest, we can start a small group of SHcians in Perth. I hope Agnes and Mary read this. I think there was an attempt by Mary to start this some years back.

The best times are autumn (May-Jun), spring (Sep-Oct).

    Cheers
    Joan
