3-4 days enjoying Thailand’s coastline in May or June 2012

May/June, we have the school holidays.  The weather is terribly hot; and the ideal clothes are either thin cotton or nothing.  Although I am in Bangkok this one week, I shall be back there again in May and Jun.

I plan to take a rest and enjoy the beautiful coast, south of Bangkok, all the way from airport to Bang Saen, down to Chonburi, Pattaya and Rayong.  This will be all coastal, and the highlights, I think will be sea, sea, mountain views, simple steam or grilled seafood, beach chairs, coconut ice-cream, down to earth massages, fresh air and sea breezes blowing over face.  Guaranteed plenty of cockcroaches in 2-4 star huts and hotels. We can have squeeky microphone/Karaoke.

Likely, I can advise the dates I am available next week before 5 May.  It is be 3-4 days, 3 nights max.  I will try for a In Sat, out Mon/Tues.  Fares are usually lower these dates.  If total is less than 4 pax, I will drive.  If total is less than 8 or 9, we shall have a van.  I look forward to half boys and half girls on this trip.

If you like the sea, look out on this Post.  Interested, let me know yet.  If you miss this trip, there is always another chance every month.  There is no price, except that we share all costs, including one scoop of ice-cream and thai whisky.  You will love the sunset and the early morning dawn!

  1. Hi Terence
Count me in for the weekend trip. I’ve not been to Thailand – actually quite “malu” to admit – but that’s because it is either shopping if it is organized by women or “other activities” if organized by the men. I hope it will be a different experience and eye opener for me.. thanks

  2. Hi Terence,

Count me in again. But can I have the dates as I will be away in late May to 1st week of June. Anytime before or after is fine.

Have been watching the market all these months and time to get a break.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Terence,
Will school holiday period be more expensive as everyone wants to take a break? I was told that during school holidays, you can meet more Singaporeans overseas than in Singapore itself :-p

Please me and my wife in for the trip. Friday through Monday is good timing. Can confirm the dates so that we can sort out the airtickets?

    Thanks

    James

  4. Hi Terence again,

Can you let us have the dates soonest. I just reread the post and also realised my May weekends are all taken up.

How about June? Can? Please? How about July?

  5. It won’t go wrong to join trips organise by Terence. //(*_*)\\ Please include me, need to breathe fresh air and feel free & breezzzzy. Thank you for organising!

    Ah Nee

  6. Hi Terence
If the trip is during this coming May/June school holidays, please include me. Gingko and I have agreed to be room-mates. I also wonder if I can extend my stay 1 or 2 nites in Bangkok after the road trip so that I can do some shopping?
    Thank you.

    Laura Wee
P/S This will be my first trip with SHC, looking forward to it.

  7. Hi, Terence,
I should be honour if I can join in your travel group, I like driving, and the last December I was followed “WanBao AA Wakan Trail to Phuket and Khao Lak”, A 8 day’s trip. Please let me have the actual date so that I can arrange my schedule.
    Thank allots
    Alan Ang Chi Qui

  8. Hi Molly, Alan, Dorine, Laura, Charles, Ah Nee, Inez, James,

I shall definitely use one Sat and Sunday. I am tempted to say let’s try a driving trip. Please wait till 5 May. I shall let you know the dates. No worries about where to stay, it’s fun to look for accommodation when we are there. This is no 5-star trip; but I am sure you will enjoy the holiday, especially the cockcroaches and no water heater.

  9. Hi Terence and all would-be travellers

Just did a quick check on budget airlines for late May flights leaving Sat and returning Tues: Most fares are around S$260 per person… quite a bit high maybe because of the holiday period.

I hope the fares and Bangkok hotel may not be excessive by the time you decide by 5 May.

You certainly will have no trouble looking forward to half-boys or half-girls in Thailand, but in Singapore…??

  10. Hi Terence

I would love to go on this trip, depending on the timing. Will be away from 10 to 19 May and 12 to 17 June and generally the first 5 days of the month is bad for me too. Anyway if I miss this I can always wait for the next one :0)

  15. I hae just confirmed today the exact dates of the trip to Coastal Thailand. Please note the cockcroaches have hatched; and they are everywhere because of the hot weather.

Fri 25 May – Those who cannot get a flight on Sat 26 May morning, can book a hotel in Bangkok. Van can pick you up here in the morning; and we go to the Bkk airport together to pick up those who arrive on Sat morning. I rather you dont stay too far from me. Boys and Girls who wish to experience Bangkok night life, please wait for more info. We can sleep as late as 2am.

** Sat 26 May (Trip proper) – Participants must be at the airport by 9am. Currently Tiger leaves Spore at 0635 and arrives bkk at 0800. App $120. Pickup will be at the airport. More details later. Dont worry about the hotels. Shall think about it later.

** Tue 29 May (Trip proper) – Participants will be rturned to the Bkk airport by 4pm. You can book any flight after 6pm.

Wed 30 May – Those who wish to stay longer after the trip proper can stay in Bangkok. The van will send you to the hotel. Boys and girls who wish to shop, eat or be naughty can consider staying back after Tue 29 May.

I am aware the fares are more expensive because of the school holidays. But, we will be out of Bangkok where most of the tourists go to.

No worries, if you cannot make it to this trip. There will be another in June, even July. Another coastal region.

Once you book your flights, please indicate your OUTGOING and RETURN flight numbers and time. This will be considered as confirmation of your coming.

It is likely I shall book one van for the first 9 person.

Remember, bring scanty clothes, shorts and sun tan lotion.
Please go ahead. Preference will be given first, to those who have their names on this Post. They are Inez Lim, James Koh, Gingko Tay, Charles Chua, Ah Nee, Laura Wee, Janie, Dorine Tan, Alan Ang, Molly Chua, Mega Abudullah, Norlinda, Bira, Susan Chang, and Sock Cheng.

  30. Hi, Terence,
I had miss the boat, next time have to be more alert.
Anyway, I wish all of you have a enjoyable and wonderful trip.

    Alan

  31. Hi Alan #40,

No worries. We can have another one in June.

For all the 9 plus me. joining on Sat 26 May, please see this hotel. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/rayong/hinsuay_namsai_resort.html.

Although it is an old hotel, perched on the hill, it is beautiful, and the scenary is just romantic. I really like you to see it. We should be there by lunch time. The rest of the hotels will not be booked in advance, and I like you to see for yourself when you are there.

    Terence Seah

  32. For the 26-29 May trip to coastal Thailand and for those planning an extra night, I like to recommend Dynasty Grande Hotel. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/bangkok/dynasty_grande_hotel.html.

It is 5 mins from the Nana train station, and from here takes you all over the train network. A new boutique hotel, close to the Nana Entertainment centre, plenty of food, 3 stops to Siam square.

I shall go over and to get a better price than the internet if possible. Let you now later tonight.

    Terence Seah

  33. Hi Terence,

Thank you for searching some reasonable hotels for us. We have only 1N/2D in Bangkok, hence we want to maximise our time spend shopping around siam square; don’t want to waste time taking train. We don’t mind pay a little bit more on hotel accommodation. We will wait for your recommendation on Pathumwan Princess hotel (MBK)for discounted rates. If we can’t settle for that, we will go ahead to book Novotel at siam square.

Also on the 30 May, will there be airport transfer provided?

    Cheers! Ah Nee

  34. Weekday traffic incoming into Bangkok is bad during peak period. I am thinking how as there is no tollway exit to Siam Square. Maybe after the trip, take airport train and change.

Travellers to Bkk always enjoy the traffic jams. And when going back to Spore, it is cheaper by taxi as a group.

    Kenneth, any advice?

    Terence Seah

  35. Wow, Terence!

A trip every month! This can be a good idea as it will help many SHCs to decide on Thailand as a possible retirement haven.

    Before I forget, there’s a Jetstar offer for a
two-for-one deal to several destinations but for September onwards… Let’s see if there are any interested. Just go to the website, click the promo, choose your destination and date. When on the flight details page, click the right top to select more dates (for the month) and you’ll get a choice of different dates. This is a great way to select the best and cheapest seats.

On getting back to the airport from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi):

    1. There’s a new rail link which goes to Phya Thai station which is at Asia hotel. I haven’t tried this before but I think you know better.

    2. Taxis: These will cost around B300 – 500 plus toll charges to the airport. There’s a huge CNG gas tank in the boot of the taxi which limits the number of luggage bags and passengers to TWO at most. Plus consider the traffic jam around the time you need you leave for the airport.

    3. Minivans: If you’re all staying at the same location, you can arrange a minivan which I think is the most convenient way.

I’ve also just heard of the long queues at the Thai immigration… so make provision for this.

Ah Nee is the typical Singaporean traveller and demands the best and most convenient access to shopping and eating. Now you have to provide airport transfers as well… no trains, please!

    What happened to the cockroaches??

  36. To participants of the 26-29 May trip to coastal Thailand.

I have given some re-thinking into accommodation. The weather is terribly hot. In the day, it is fine if the weather is hot. In the night, it may be too miserable if the place has full of trees humid to walk around, and has no aircon. So, I have thought of places with good breezes, walkable at night and airconditioning.

For Sunday night, we stay along Jomtien beach. Rates are USD 33. I suggest for a few dollars more to have a good sea view USD 40. We have a night beach party, Usually known to locals only. But close to Pattaya. This is Furama Jomtien Beach hotel. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/pattaya/furama_jomtien_beach_hotel.html

For Monday night, we will get an excellent view, perched on a hill with plenty of monkeys. Very romantic. Lots of small oysters. The hotel is Sammuk Resort. We have local seafood nearby with an excellent view of the Gulf of Thailand. I like it because it is scenic. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/chonburi/sammuk_resort.html

Do not book yet. Please wait for me to give the ok, on 10 May 12nn. Meantime comments please. I shall be asking you to book yourself, learn booking at aagoda.com and you can earn some points too. Also your choice and preference.

So, all hotels and fights paid for before arrival, except for 1st night for bulk purchase.

Have fun. Get ready a small towel, slippers and scanty clothes.

    Terence Seah

  37. Back from the wonderful trip. With Terence as the tour guide and the rest for the great company, it was indeed enjoyable. Thanks for the company!

Away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore life, into the indulgent food paradise at economic prices, it is no small wonder that Thailand will continue to attract people to go there despite the traffic jam.

Think about having lunch at the seaside restaurant with oysters, crabs, fish, sotong and all the works.Build up your belly fat at $25/= only.

Thinks about basking by the beach, under the parasol and sitting on the deck chair. Sipping whiskey and eating tasty finger food for the walk-by vendor, you will be lulled to sleep and enjoying every moment of it. Add in a sumptuous lunch, and it will only set you back $20/= ( minus the whiskey of course).

Take a morning brisk walk along the windy beach( to trim off yesterday’s belly), and then enjoy slowly the great taste of Thai coffee and bread toast. Idle for 1 1/2hr as you slowly decide what you want to do next.

So,with this, anyone keen to stay there for 3 months? Call 65-T-E-R-E-N-C-E :-)

  38. Ahhhhhhh!! Sanooooooookk!!

    Wow, Terence!

You have certainly outdone yourself judging by what James has written. Now every one of your monthly trips will be fully booked… can I book-book every trip from now on?

This is better than going to retirement living or village or whatever!!

  39. Hi Kenneth #50,

I enjoyed the coastal trip, although I had been the same route many times. I think the company was great too. When you have time, I would be glad to bring you around.

    Terence Seah

  40. Hi Terence

No, I don’t want to keep this post thread going… it’s getting lost in the crush of newer posts!

What happened to the “latest comments” which you promised in March, restored for a short time in May, and then removed again?? I find getting to read any comment after the first webpage gets very cumbersome.

  41. Hi Steven Ng

I have mulled over for a long time and still don’t understand why the “Last comments” was disappeared in the “Shortcuts” box. Now you enlightened me, thanks.

Yes, the url mentioned is just what we seen in the upper part of the screen when we are reading the latest comments (not within a post)

If you don’t want to remember the url, Dan has taught us a way:

    – click “Login” or “Latest Posts” (then you have to login, if you are yet to login) in the “Shortcuts” box.

    – click “Comments” at the top of the screen, then, you will go to the url (the pages of latest comments)mentioned by Steven.

  42. Dear Terence

Thank you for being such an accomodating and understanding tour leader. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip with SHC eating, sight-seeing, drinking, shopping and laughed till my eyes teared and belly ached. The only setback is that my waistline grew by a few inches and it is so difficult to lose those few inches as a silverhair.

To those who have not been on a trip with Terence, die die must try at least once. No regrets lah…

To my Thailand trip-mates, thanks for your enjoyable company and shared tidbits plus laughter all the way…

    Cheers!!!
    Laura

  43. Hi Kenneth #52,

Thanks for the reminder. Our guys have put back the “Latest Comments”. I hope this makes it easier to follow up on the latest talk.

    Terence Seah

  44. Hi Terence

I should say thank you for that… but I have learnt three different ways to access the Latest Comments since you last eliminated it.

Thanks to Oi Cheng who suggested a link, Peter Lim who said i could “bookmark” it, and Dan/Andrew who suggested a more convoluted way. In fact, I have a quicker way: Just click Site Admin and you see the latest comment, then click See All and you’re there!

And it is not as Steven says: The Boss wants you to read the posts but not the comments. But just the whole web administration thing and priorities which I think The Boss has got correct!
