IT Interest Group Meeting on 21-09-12 (Friday)

In the past, we were made to believe nothing is free. But now, we stand to be corrected that sometimes – free offers (free Apps – application programs) do exist. If accepted, it comes with risks and consequences. So the advice is, be selective
and know where the free application programs come from. Is there any organization or parties monitoring and checking these programs? Are these Apps programs come from malicious sites? In this month’s discussion, we will show you some of the reasonably safe sites (Apps programs) to have fun with – for all ages.

Please bring along your tablet, iPad or smart devices. We managed to obtain the use of a fully air-conditioned classroom to conduct our IT discussions. The Venue is at Leng Kee Community Centre (LKCC). Nearest MRT is Redhill MRT. Please see location map http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_4999/travel_site_11456/

As the classroom has limited space, we intend to limit the class size to 16 from SHC and possibly 4 from the public through LKCC. So far, with 13 pre-registered from SHC, we only have 3 vacancies left. For those who wish to attend, please provide me with your IC number (as required by the CC). Do not write your IC details in your comments to the post but email me separately through hewlee@gmail.com

  1. Welcome to ITIG Ronnie Teo and James Tan. You have emailed me that you are interested to join our IT discussion in LKCC.
Now we only have one vacant seat left.

  2. Seow Mai (#4) – thanks for your interest. For the month of Sept, we already has a full house as the notice was posted some time back in Aug. I am new to LKCC and do not know the people in-charge there well. Using the room there “free of charge” in the evening may need further consideration.
If you can make it on the 3rd Fri of Oct (subject to confirmation), please let me know.

  3. Dear Hwee Lee,

Thank you so much for organising.

Hope you can organise another session for those who cannot make it his round. Also hope it can be in the night or weekend.

Hope ALL of you have a great and fruitful session. Enjoy

  4. Jacqueline Wong (#6), Myra Chia (#7) and Jennifer Lim (#8) – 3rd Fri of October, I mean (21/10) – but this date, I don’t think I can do it as I have a grandfather’s duty on this date. Using someone’s venue (LKCC) is not easy to change (the meeting date). We have to seek LKCC’s concurrence and scheduling. For the time being, I am seeking LKCC’s permission to allow us (SHC) either on Sat (22/10) or Wed (26/10) at 3.00PM to 5.00PM to use one of their rooms. Let me know whether you all want to pre-register on these dates mentioned.

With so much interest shown on this IT topic, I think I will repeat this topic in the October slot.

For Jennifer Lim – please tidy up your SHC membership with SHC admin.

  5. From Alice Hwee Tiang:

I’m new, I cannot login. I want to joint your group. Please put me on waiting list (for the October meeting).

Alice – if you have trouble logging in or lost your ID/password, please contact admin@Silverhairsclub.com to sort things out. In the meantime, I noted your request.

  6. Seow Mai (#12) – please read (#10). There is no meeting on 3rd Friday of October and all meetings so far arranged with LKCC is on time slot 3PM to 5 PM. Please let me know whether you are ok on either dates proposed.

  7. (#10) – just a point of clarification – the dates Sat (22/10) should read Sat (20/10) and Wed (26/10) should read (24/10) – read the wrong month la.

  8. For the month of October, on 20th Oct (SAT) – 3.00PM to 5.00PM, I will do a REPEAT of what is done on Sept. So far, five persons have indicated their intention to attend and they are 1) Alice Hwee Tiang, 2) Jennifer Lim, 3) Myra Chia, 4) Tan Seow Mai and 5) Jacqueline Wong. The group size is still maintained at max 16 persons.

  9. Seow Mai informed me she won’t be able to attend as she will be overseas. Jacqueline Wong informed me her husband (who is also a SHC member) would like to be registered. (Welcome Siew Yee). The October class has now five persons indicated their intention to attend and they are 1) Alice Hwee Tiang, 2) Jennifer Lim, 3) Myra Chia, 4) Jacqueline Wong, and 5) Siew Yee Cheong. The group size is still maintained at max 16 persons.

  10. Thank you Hew Lee for the ‘lesson’ on IT. V informative indeed!

Thanks to Pat Oei for your kind assistance for the use of the room at the Leng Kee cc. The room was spacious, quiet and conducive for conducting the IT course.

    Cheers to all….

Have a splendid weekend to all,
