Our May monthly gathering will be held on Sat 17 May 2014.

Venue: Oxford Hotel, Skylight Cafe
Time: 6pm to 9 pm
Dinner Buffet: from 6.30pm

  • Please make payment transfer to Karen Thio at POSB account 207-31089-1. Let us know your transfer reference number.
  • Charge: $15 (if payable before 15 May, $20 for walk-in and unregistered).

Come and meet other members. The monthly gathering is a good opportunity to know new friends.

Some members will be discussing their travel plans. Join the different groups, cruises, European, US or regional Asian countries. Look for travel partners, exchange contacts and make your plans.

Let us know your travel interest, and we try to group you into groups.

If you are planning to come, do let us know early. This helps with planning. If you cannot make it for last minute reasons, do let us know by 15 May.

  14. Should be easy to find our way la. I called up the hotel and they said to get off at Bras Basah mrt and head for the Queen Street exit. It’s a 2-min walk along Queen Street to the hotel.

    Since its so convenient why don’t you do your lunch there? Unless it’s the cost that’s holding back everybody.

    I think there’s great response to the travel gathering and many SHCs are getting itchy feet… travel bug?

    I must also attend if only to meet and listen to all the travel ideas and happy wanderers’ tales.

    So Karen, expect a small amount of $27 from me soon; yes, it includes my $12 for the afternoon session on options. May I advertise my session? Attendees may get a chance to pay for their next holiday with the option idea that I’m presenting. So I’m happy for those who have signed up…we should have a rewarding time!

      1. Last night May monthly gathering, we had it at Hans Upper Pickering. We had 26 Pax, we book for 30 Pax.

        General view is the venue at Oxford Hotel is convenient, close to Bras Basah MRT. However, the food was found to be too tough by some members. A couple felt $15 was too high, but no one could suggest an alternate location. The venue was all to us.

        Discussions on the Eurorail travel went on. Cruises, didn’t make a group, but there were interest and talk of going Korea, Nepal, Japan and China. Well, we left the groups to pursue.

        We will keep this venue for its advantage of proximity to MRT, cost, if no other venues has similar advantages. We will also keep Hans, as long as they don’t throw us out, for not buying food and drinks from them.

        This monthly gathering is intended to cater to retired, not working and working members. Usual time 4-8.30pm weekday.

        1. One interesting issue cropped up during the monthly gathering. A member turned up with his friends. However, the member said that he will join the gathering but will not pay the $15 because he has his makan at 3pm.

          This is not a new occurence, and we had similar once in a while. As EO, I decided that all participants will have to pay, as we state clearly, it’s $15 per Pax. The member left.

          Unfortunately, I couldn’t agree. Comments welcome.

    I agree with you fully regarding payment. There are always such people around. Why should anyone be shown any special favours? It’s all fair and square. Even if he has already eaten, he still has to pay like everyone else.

    He can always eat a little or if he wants to make his money’s worth, he can always ‘tar pau’ his food but only in a serviette, hahaha. I wonder how he’s going to do that with the soup?

    On serious note… All members should know that if they want out of the box arrangement, you must get the EO’s consensus first before attending… Like that, lots of unslightly situation can be prevented lor… This is basic courtesy…
