Pictures of SHC 17 July 2008 monthly gathering

Here are the pictures of the SHC monthly gathering at Kovan.  This is an open air area, infront of Paya Labar Kovan cc.   F&B is provided by the venue owner.

Have a look at the pictures.  Give us your feedback of the place, good or bad.  If your comments are slightly positive, we might hold another event here again. Oops, in my mind, and maybe, the hokkien songs singalong, a talent-time or event a dance performance, even a talk.

From all participants, thank you Ah Nee for being a vibrant Event Organiser and host of this monthly event.  And, also thanks to Grace Wong for printing our personalised name tag, and both Grace and Janet Heng for managing the registration desk.  Also, the impromptu dance performance and the international chess competition.  And, thanks to Molly Chua for the chirpy chips and the few beer contributors.  A warm welcome too to the new members.

Now, that most of you know what the SHC monthly gathering is all about, and am secretly hoping to be an Event Organiser, plse raise your hand or speak with any fellow SHCians.  To view the pictures, plse click here.

  1. Hi Terence & EO,

Thank you for another wonderful and successful gathering.
My fren susan & I personally like the Kovan settings.
It has an open concept, easy to move around and not noisy.
In addition, the raised stage is good for some impromptu performance.

I would support any future meeting, say, for the rest of
this year (with the exception at East Coast in August).

I would also suggest to more fully utilise the stage. For
a start, maybe the dance group who had been taking lessons
can perform some informal such items like Cha Cha, Rn R,
Disco Rock, Bachata or Waltz at the next few meetings here.

This, I believe, would motivate those dancers to improve
their performance and contribute to some sharing. At the
same time, it would encourage more members to take up this
    bobby.

Dan, any comment to start off one?
Terence & EO, any problem to arrange this with the club
    management?

Susan and me can chip in a Salsa and Bachata item at the
    end of the year.

  2. Terence,

You got the date wrong again. It should be 16 July 2008.

It was a nice gathering and I made many friends there.

It is a bit out of the way and I think those office workers in the CBD area may find it a rush to go the venue. I still think it could be one of the venues for our monthly gatherings. The stage could provide impromptu performance like dancing, jamming, etc.

    Regards,
    Andrew Koh

  3. Dear Terence

Agreed with both James n Susan.Very good ambience. At first, missed the aircon comfort in the afternoon but gradually dismissed it as the evening progressed.Like the noise too.In fact, the louder the better..ha..ha.

Will not be able to join the August’s gathering.Have to attend my Sunday Service cos it’s the only service for the family group.

Caroline, missed you last night.Learnt that you are not feeling well. Please take good care and wish you good health.

To all, I want to thank you very much for your company… I enjoyed myself very much.

    Good day, JanetH

  4. Dear all,

Thank you all for joining in the fun gathering yesterday. I met so many new members who have the same interests as me. So I hope to see you all again at our other events like Walking, Cycling, dancing & Singing. Thanks to Jassmine also, she keeps our mind non-stop thinking of solving the interesting puzzles.!@#$%^&*

I like the Kovan CC, its has got the ambience of a French bistro, the only problem is that the venue is too far for those who reside in the west. That’s why yesterday many of the westerner did not turn up….aeh, but Cat yeo, Steven chan, Dan Huang, Daniel chan, Boon Liang, John Howe, Aaron How, Dolly… are here leh. :)

  5. Hi Terence and event organisers

Saw the photos posted, and from the photos we can see that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. Some members even dance on the stage to entertain others. I missed all the fun.

The Kovan community club with its setting and amphitheatre is very conducive for socoial interation.

The location is also not too bad as it is less than 10 minutes walk from the Kovan MRT.

    Cheers

  6. Hi,

I have to add to #1, there are alot of good ‘makan’ at the food centre, cheap & good & also neighbourhoob shop.

Thanks to the gentleman, sorry I have forgotten your name who offered me ‘liquor’. What is the brand and where to get it. It is really to my taste.

Once again, thanks to everyone who was there for the gathereing and to those who can make it, hope to see you some days.

  7. Hi everybody,

If you like to be the Event Organiser for the next round at Kovan, please raise your hand. You probably would get a good chance to decide on the agenda.

Look at your diary. See when you are free. Decide what you love most. Set up the theme. You cannot be shy. No speech required. Give it a try. Date not decide yet.

  8. Susan-T, that guy is fabulous and goes by the name Dennis Wee, and that’s all you shdknow abt him. Certainly dont ask where he got the liquor….heeehee, it looked golden and frothy on top, right?

If you’re so curious that you must ask for at least a clue, ok, just repeat his surname twice and…………that’s it !

  9. James, I agrees that social dance and jam should be encouraged. I was late for the gathering and therefore missed the early round of social dance!

The venue is perfect for our monthly gatherings. It’s has the ambience for informal group to come together for sharing and getting to know one another.

Karen Teo and Ron Koh should try to have their favorite pastimes sessions here too. Now with have two beer pourer’s in Molly and Dennis Wee.

I promise Terence drunken chess! After downing three helping of Kahlua and three mugs of beer, I could still take on a game with Daniel Chan!

Fortunately Boon Liang was there to drive me home. But not after we have another session of drink with Susan Chan, Margaret Tian, Boon Liang, Victor and Patrick Khoo.

I really like this place, hardly see any member of the public. The whole place was filled with SHCians. There another air-con seating inside. The Cafe also served tremendously good selection of foods and drinks!

  10. Susan-T, alamak only 2 glasses of Kahlua coffee liquer n u 4get my name…apa macham…:-(

Tim-L, thks 4 helping out..hey i like this “If you’re so curious that you must ask for at least a clue, ok, just repeat his surname twice and…………that’s it !”

    Cheers

  11. Hi James and Susan #1,

I think we can have a change; and I suspect you can give this event a new and exciting twist. Can I ask if you would accept being the Event Organiser for the next event, at the same place. If you say “yes”, I shall contact you to discuss the date via email. If you say “no”, hmm, don’t know what to say.
