  1. Hi Terence S,

Pls. consider the next venue of our SHC gathering to be at Central Kopitiam and I hope you can recee this place for one more time despite your earlier disappointment of not able to find the place.

I found a “short cut” for you to the Kopitiam at Central shopping centre but this time you will NOT be disappointed and walk around in circles.

    1) Alight at Clark Quay MRT stn. Walk up the exit to Central.

    2) At main entrance walk in , look for the shop called
“The Watch Shop” and walk into the narrow passage way.

    3) There are 3 separate lifts there to different parts of the buildings. Take the lift marked with letter “C” closest to the info counter and press 4th floor.

Beside the lift, you can see the narrow sign board.

No wonder we did not see the sign of Kopitiam . It is called MY dining room @ Kopitiam and NOT Kopitiam.
And many could have MISSED it becos we search for the letter starting with K instead of M.

    4) Come out and turn right, see some Japanese lanterns walk straight ahead and you are now at kopitiam, the food court with a BEAUTIFUL panoramic view of the Clark Quay river activities below esp in the evening when it is all lighted up.

There are 2 separate sections in the Kopitiam. And it is LARGE enough to hold a gathering of 100 or more EXCEPT you need to ask the permission of the Supervisor in charge.

    5) After our meeting, the “Lo Fui Lo Chai” and others can take a stroll down to the clark quay riverside for drinks at Harry ‘s bar and supper.

Happy receeing this time and pls. made a report of your findings.

  2. Hi Steven,

The Clark Quay Kopitiam sounds like a great recommendation. I shall go find the entrance to the Kopitiam, when I am back. Has anyone one else been there. Tell us your experience, if you have been there. The more places we can find the wider our choices.

StevenC, do you think we could bring our bicycles there, using MRT transport? We can also ride along the river.

  3. Terence,

I agree with Steven, this place has a BEAUTIFUL panoramic view of the Clark Quay river and is big enough for SHC crowd. Last sat, Lina, Juliet, Susan, Ronald Lee, John Howe, Aaron How and myself were there for dinner before we proceed to Zouk. We find this place very cosy, air-cond and spacious but I wonder if we are allow to make noise b’cos the food vendors are doing their business. Consider this venue is at the Central of Clarke Quay MRT, very convenience, worth looking into it. :)

  4. Hi, Terence
I am a new comer to this club and sign up only a few days ago.
I have checked the club website and there is no mention of the SHC monthly gathering.
I have read our other members profile and gather that the August SHR monthly is in on the second week of August.
Can you confirm as I am eager to meet with our fellow members. I have submitted a profile of myself as requested by the club. perhap you reviewing my profile before posting on the website,

    Rgds

  5. Terence,
since you asked, I will give my opinion on the Central Kopitiam. It is a big enough place, but it can be quite crowded. I’ve been there for lunch, tea as well as dinner. Some of the food there are quite good but a little bit more expensive I think. It’s crowded for lunch and dinner.

Round about 3 to sunset, the sun shines directly into most of the whole area and it gets too warm and bright to sit there. There is only a small stretch at one extreme end that is not affected. It is understandably empty at that time because of the heat from the sun. There are no shades on the floor to ceiling window panes, which stretch along the whole part facing Clarke Quay.

I have not seen any bicycles inside the building. Don’t know if they will allow any in as it’s a shopping complex. Also, I believe the mrt doesn’t allow bicycles into the train unless they are collapsible ones.

It is a nice place except for the fact that it is very warm at the time I mentioned. The view in the evening is lovely though.

  6. Hi Terence

Your indication of the Monthly Meeting on 15th Oct,2008, but what happens to the SEPT monthly meeting in which I do not appeared to have seen in the website.

  7. Terence,

Just to add on what I have said earlier, we were there between 5.30 – 6.30 pm. Surprisingly, on a saturday evening, it was not crowded at all. I guess these people have a better dining place than coming here…..

  8. Hi Dolly,

Usually, each month we hold one monthly gathering. We have tried the 3pm session for Retired SilverHairs; and it works. We have tried the 6-7pm session for still-working SilverHairs and it works. We tried downtown and the heartlands, and it works well. If it does not work, we will drop the idea of using that venue.

As the club has grown, bit by bit, we have to explore new places. There are not enough large places to accommodate the group. We have tried Kovan, and we will try ECP and Clarke Quay. We have tried Bukit Batok, hmm.. We should try Woodlands, and Jurong, all during this year.

The date and venue for Games day, on a Sunday, is already fixed. For the Oct monthly gathering, this is still in plan; subject to Event Organiser and venue acceptance. I am 90% sure it will go on.

RonL, no, we have not forgotten Sept 2008. Am looking for someone to raise his hand.

  9. Hi Mitchell,

As I was the one who wrote the SHC update for Aug. maybe I can help. The SHC gathering for the month of Aug is under the title “Overnite at ECP & SHC gathering on Sat/Sun 16-17 Aug. 2008”. You can find the details there. See you around.

  10. Terence…U are indeed a strange man!..havnt find EO for Sept & now looking places for Oct?..kesian!..haha

So long absent fm chatting, maybe i missed the news..where wud the Sept gathering be held then?..pls not Jurong or Woodlands lah….if u insist, we might as well go visit Jurong Bird Park or Mandai Zoo & have family day!….hehe :)

  11. Dear all,

The SHC monthly gathering has indeed generated a lot of
interest. And I’m exhilirated to see huge turnout every
    month.

Pls allow to squeeze in some words in order to clarify certain things.

First of all, Susan Tan n me are supposed to be the EO for this meeting in September, and I intended to make this gathering something special and memorable.

I’ve intended to call in a few groups of dancers headed by
an experienced member to perform a few dance items for
both the afternoon and evening sessions.

As these dance items could clash with the chalet event at
NSRCC organised by Ron Lai, and to give more time for the
dancers to ‘perfect’ their routines, Terence and me had
agreed to move it to the Oct slot.

That’s the reason there’s an EO for Oct but not for Sep.

It was also decided to use back Kovan CC as the venue as
there’s a stage there. I’m now liasing with the cafe owner
on the logistics of holding the performances there and
if everything goes through, I’ll be calling for dancers
(not necessarily you must be very good, just have the
courage to share your experience and skills) in Social,
Latin, Ballroom, Line/country and/or Bollywood to showcase
    their talent.

By that time, my wish is that anyone who is willing to try
out his/her steps can come forward.

Hope this clarifies and sincerely wish all will be supportive to volunteer yourself when more details are out
    next month.

  12. Thank you James for clarifying…
alamak….Sept no need the dance lah…u can be EO for both mths..
If not we miss seeing each other in Sept?haha..can still hv the gathering, just cakap2 & develop frenship boleh rite?..
October then have the joget get-together,how’s that? :)

  13. Hi James. Yes, we should have a dance & song item for the monthly gathering. I’m all for it. I am a dance & karaoke enthusiast. Pls proceed to plan the details.

    Regards, Lydia.

  14. Elo!elo!…missy Dolly..
    Aiyo…how can i be EO…tak boleh lah…always come very lambat..gelek2…everything tak jadi!
Lydia..ya lah..not bad idea, we can hve dancing, singing & acting too, like drama SHC style…hhmm :)

  15. Btw Terence..
Our Chiangmai camping trip jadi or not?…can u put up a new posts for this pls?..the prev post was one yr ago lah..donno where to find?…cepat lah…im sum yok yok oredi..its November..yeah!

  16. Hi Terence n James

Thanks for your clarifications on Sept monthly gathering which has been push forward to Oct, as the Sept month will be quite “occupy” by the event at NSRCC, and may I make a correction here that the event is been organise by Ronald Wie, not Ron Lai, and I will definitely lend him my full support.

    RonLai

  17. Hi Terence & Kenneth Tan

Agreed with Norlinda, can’t find “Here’s dream for 18-25 Nov 08 (Camping North Thailand) posting. I read from ‘latest comments’ that Kenneth has recent posting, where to find the Post before put in comments.
