  1. Yew Kwong,

Sorry…we, Norlinda, Suzhang, Lina and myself have to miss this cycling event on 21 Mar as we have Our Family Day. :)

    Ah Nee

  2. Hi Gals

M wondering when did u all hd became a family. Guess it must be SHC’s 1st inter inter marriage that hd taken place w/o our knowledge. Congrats!

    Hi Rene

May I ask u 2 lead the long distance cyclists? Thanks.

  3. Ah Nee, Ah Nee, so sad the four of you sweet ladies gonna miss this cycling event. Looks like I’ve to miss it too due to your absence although this is my pet event apart from Bam Bam. Back to golfing on that Saturday!

  4. Hi CB,

So sad, ‘cos of the 4 ladies, u are going to give it a miss this round. Hey, you still have ‘US’, haha. Come lar…
We can have rojak at the food centre.

    Hi EOs,

    Pls count me in.

    Susan Tan

  5. Sorry, Susan Tan, the 4 ladies are the pioneer group of frenz when I first joined, just as Steven and Ron Wi my close buddies. So no other ‘US’ can replace them lah. And in your case, you are Tan also. Tan and Tan, sure cannot lah, get it? After all, you have another J. Tan to share your rojak with. Enjoy!

  6. Hi Chin boon,

…Ah Nee, Ah Nee, so sad the four of you sweet ladies gonna miss this cycling event. Looks like I’ve to miss it too due to your absence although this is my pet event apart from Bam Bam. Back to golfing on that Saturday!

Ai yah,Boon since the 4 “ABBAs” cannot made it, does not mean you cannot come.Do bring cutie Bam Bam for some fresh air and you can place him inside the specially designed “Doggie” basket.

  7. Hi StevenC

    Are u coming then?

Btw, gone are the days once ABBA dominated. Another band group hs taken SHC by storm. Let me annouce n welcome “LANS”. Guess u can figure out who are its members.

  8. Chin Boon #3, you can join the rest for cycling. You don’t have to be so faithful to us. There are lots of nice ladies out there in SHC. Susan Tan is one such lady.

    Yew Kwong #8, Very funny!

  9. Hi Veronique

Gd u are wif us. We shall continue wif the topic of buying bike.

    Hi Lina

U hd found a replacement for “S” wif “LAN” on the waiting.

  10. “As usual, wet or dry………”

Well, seems like you dont remember it but let me hazard a guess, ummm……..usually, it’s wet. But it’s quite fun to start it dry and then get wet slowly…………..heeeehee…

  11. Maybe “BLANCS” would be more stylish? What you say Yew Kwong?

Very sad though to know that the “LANS” of the “BLANCS” and the “SCROW” are all SHC means to Chin Boon.

The show will go on with or without the “LANS” or the “BLANCS”. Please include me Yew Kwong.

    Many thanks.

  12. Hi Yew Kwong.

Don’t know anything about “LANS” or “BLANCS” or “SCROW” but can you register me for the trip to Changi Village?

    Thanks

  13. Dear Lina, How not to be ‘faithful’ to your LANS group of fine ladies: You are truly friendly, you are fun to be with, you are jovial and all laughters, and most of all, you are unpretentious with no hidden agenda, never display unlady-like temper, no expletives used or heard, and none of the bitchy traits shown by those unknown to scare the wits out of a decent guy. I guess it’s due to the fact you are all happily married with a spouse and grown-up kids that make you happy, cheerful, and normal persons huh. No wonder I feel at ease with you refined ladies notwithstanding the gossiping rumours from the outset. But hey, we are above all that, right?

Thanks to your encouragement, I shall be joining the macho 30-mile cycling this Sat at 3pm led by Charles Chua and this tough-y lady Rene (who counted the one-two-cha-cha-cha out loud when dancing with a “beginner” like me otherwise she won’t cha-cha with me. Sic!). That is, provided I can attract Steven Chan, Andrew Thio, and Wong Hong Jen to string along too. And of course my buddy Ron Wi is welcome too with his roller skates if this slow-coach can keep up with us.

Btw, has any body seen Ron Wi of late? Gone are his long unkempt mane which was a sore to the eyes and his white beard that make him look like Rip Van Winkle, a grumpy old man just woke up after a century sleep. Out came an army-trim haircut and well shaved clean-cut dashing look with jet-black hair that make him look more than 10 years younger. I even spotted his new pair of jet-set shoes instead of his oversized lau-ah-pek flip-flop sandals. I swear You can’t recognise this ‘young’ stud the next time you meet him, I couldn’t anyway and thought he was just another stranger. Hate to admit it, he actually looks quite handsome, and charming too. No wonder I notice the new faces surrounding him (as usual) are the younger set of damsels. Good for you, young ‘old’ man. Keep it up and stay young, buddy. Hey, you look healthier too!

Yup, like Steven says, Seeing Is Believing. Cheers!

  14. Hi Yew Kwong

    1) Will confirm cycling by Thursday.

    Hi Chin Boon,

    2) Usually, you are a man of few words, straight to the point, jovial at times but can be downright serious.

Comment #16 is rather a looong but INTERESTING one.
You had been v. observant too despite being a member
    for a few months.

V.Good! you are using your skills to write comments.
You like to SPEAK your mind but you actually meant
NO harm but at times beware of “BOOMERANGS” hurtling at you

  15. Chin Boon #16,

Thank You for your kind comments. Buy you a cup of coffee when I next see you. Agree with you Ron Wie looked at least 10 years younger, very fit and trim. I could not recognize him too!

  16. Chin Boon
I’m not writing this in defence of anyone, but your comments at #5 and # 16 are uncalled for.

    #5
When someone extends an invitation and you want to refuse acceptance, do so graciously. Why cause embarrassment to the person with your insinuations? It is a very ungentlemanly act!

    More insinuations??

Do you mean to say that women who are not “happily married with a spouse and grown-up kids” are not happy, cheerful and normal persons? Please clarify and substantiate!!

I was away in Europe when you created a furor with your tactless comments about the women of SHC. I read your comments with annoyance and disdain and was very tempted to put up some retorts about them, but didn’t do so when some of the offended women told you off for your rude remarks.

Now, you come up with the same sort of tactless and groundless remarks and I can no longer ignore them and keep quiet about them.

If your opinion of the women of SHC is so low, why the heck are you a member? Why did you not just leave? Why did you have to write all that nonsense and insult us?

I have come face to face with you several times and you came across as a person who is brave only behind a computer screen, shooting off his mouth. You couldn’t even utter a straight sentence to my questions and one of your women friends had to keep providing the answers for you. You could only sit there with a sheepish grin on your face! Are you a man or a mouse?

You are a miserable example of a man if indeed you are, for a real man would not stoop so low as to write such stupid, callous, derogatory and totally generalised remarks about the women of SHC.

I have been a member of SHC long enough to observe that most of the women in SHC are here to enjoy the activities and each other’s company, whether it be a man or a woman. So what if some are there looking for a companion of the opposite sex? Isn’t that what you yourself are doing?? You are always in the company of some women or other yourself!

Do not smear our reputation with your insinuations anymore!!
If you don’t like what you see, keep your opinion to yourself. We don’t care to hear it!

  17. Hi Chin Boon,

Leave them alone although you meant no harm and speaks your mind. You had inadvertently stir up the hornet nest.

Farn hoy ee lean goong saek, seet wa ng hoy you lean koong korng.

  18. “Farn hoy ee lean goong saek, seet wa ng hoy you lean koong korng”.

The above is either Cantonese spoken with a betul nut stuck in the throat or a Mesopotamian proposing for the hand of Empress Dowager……..

Jokes aside, I am amazed at how I have mellowed as I feed on my desire to be a better person day after day.

Not too long ago……in fact only months ago, I tend to react very nastily to things which I found affronting. Less so today as I begin to convince myself that if I can change this world, that it’s me who set the standard for all others then I wdnt be the small insignificant me but the me who made history (bcos there never was such a man yet, lky or popeye).

So I try to see things a bit differently, that I dont need to take on the load of this hapless world and in the process exasperated and find myself in misery. That while I wished views are more congruent with mine but shd there be one which contradicts, will see whether I can accept it or argue against it if by staying passive, I will be aggrieved.

That I return to my abode late at nite only to find dog excreta and urine in the hall does help, esp when the puppy rascal start jumping on me and kissing all over my face. I can beat the daylight out of the dog but it will still jump on me to greet……..A dog can wrong but it knows no wrong which helps in my learning to forgive (but without forgetting to clean up the dog shit b4 I sleep……….)

  19. Hi Tim,

    1) ….Jokes aside, I am amazed at how I have MELLOWed as I feed on my desire to be a BETTER person day after day.

….Not too long ago……in fact only months? years ago, I tend to react very nastily to things which I found affronting.

Tim ,I truly agreed with you.I think you commented at the spur of the moment. You wanted to vent out your frustration as you felt miserable with life.

V.GOOD move and I am HAPPY that you realise it by now.
    Still not tool late.

Perhaps, Patrick Lee SJ can help you more with Vissanapa meditation. Not praying but deep breathing exercises that helps to calm the mind of undesirable thoughts.

    2) …..That I return to my abode late at nite only to find dog excreta and urine in the hall does help, esp when the puppy rascal start jumping on me and kissing all over my face. ”

It is indeed a sacrifice/joy to be a responsible pet owner. Sometimes when I travelled overseas for a week or more ,
I can still sense my ex-pet dog “Cowboy” as if he is sending me an URGENT sms and wants to communicate with me.

  20. Steven, I seldom commented at the spur of the moment altho perhaps in some occasions I cd hv been less forceful and fiery. And definitely I dont feel miserbale with life…why feel miserbale when life is actually quite meaningless and so filled with mediocrity?

If there’s a need to meditate then why not try my version of Virus-semua-pun-ada? You will find yrself itchy for more.

If you feel that Cowboy’s sms to you is urgent then it’s time that you go look for him. Coming back may be a problem tho but if you are a practitioner of my meditation, you can return quite easily albeit in a different form and at a time we usually sleep…………

  21. Hi guys,

I usually don’t read this cycling thread, as i can’t join u guys on Saturdays, though i love to cycle. However, the topic was too hot to miss, esp Mary’s comments on #19. Let’s hv more fun. I was at the Supreme Court Open House on Sunday, and it was fun. Usually the accused have a lawyer to represent him. Chin Boon, hv u appointed a lawyer?

    Cheers, Lydia

  22. Dear Mary, Wow, this is totally unexpected and came as a BIG shock! I’ve always known you to be that sweet cool dainty lady, always smiling, and whom I have high regards for. You are good at ‘golf’ game, and particularly renowned for your literary skill, but why waste such talent on a “shy person” (as you proclaimed at Sok Kee lunch) like me just because I expressed appreciation to LANS group of ladies. Is that “ungentlemanly” and deserves brick-bats from you, of all people? I can only conclude that you had a bad day at the office huh. I’m not in a habit of having cross words with a sophisticated lady like your goodself, so if it makes you happy, you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, I concede DEFEAT, and you WIN, as usual. No doubt this will please some other SHC women folks too. Truce?

Anyway, since this is a forum for monthly cycling and not a platform to air grievances, sorry lah, EO Yew Kwong, for the disruption. Just this once, I promise. Steven, please observe this protocol – strictly for cycling only here.

Lina #(no.?), see lah, being nice to you girls brought me so much trouble. You better stay out of marriage too.

Ron Wi, why so quiet? you mad at me too for saying you’re such a handsome guy with your new jet-set look? You coming with your roller blades this Sat?

Btw, Yew Kwong, kindly register Wong Hong Jei for the 3pm marathon cycling too. He is coming. Thanks.

  23. Chin Boon.
My god CB, you are one condescending a–h—! You think by buttering me up, you can get away with anything?

Did I call you “shy”?? I called you a mouse! Hiding behind the computer and spewing rot.

Who cares who you wish to ingratiate yourself to? Just think again before you make any more snide remarks about women, all of which must have resulted from your association with THAT particular kind of women you were referring to, a category that many SHC women , including me, do not belong to or wish to belong to.
As far as I am concerned, I have spoken my piece and I don’t wish to have anything more to do with you or your kind, so stay out of my face!

    Yew Kwong,
thousand apologies for using your post to do this.

  24. Hi Chin Boon, Steven and all,

As usual will be blading and be trying to coach someone to cycle, if not will try to catch up with the faster cyclists.

Katherine, Stella, Andrew and other bladers come let us slide and have a good workout. Have not have a good long distance cycle or blade to CV since the beginning of the year. So Douglas where are you and when is the next trip to Desaru ???

    Cheers

  25. Hi Guys,

CB has indeed stirred up the hornet’s nest.

Henceforth, the case of “CB vs SHC Women” will commence.
(Apologies to Yew Kwong for using this post). CB should hv started his own thread to start such a hot & interesting topic, and YK will not be getting all these thousand apologies.

CB says “No doubt this will please some other SHC women folks too. Truce?”

However, I see no reason, beyond a shadow of doubt, why this will please SHC women folks? There’s absolutely nothing “pleasing” about this whole matter at all.

CB would need a “good lawyer” to get himself of out this mess. At the moment, he stands as an accused, unrepresented.

Mary, stay calm. And remain bold. We are all behind you.

  26. Lydia
Oh I am not rattled. I just don’t like this trouble making rat’s snide remarks, hahaha.

    Lily
Perhaps you would like to do some ‘smacking’ of your own? ;-)

  27. Interesting.

Exchanges which depart from the mundane “hello, ho ho? jiak ba buay? wu pung sai bo?” make a healthy forum. Dissenaions, thinly veiled barbs, even unabashedly naked belligerent volleys to & fro, is, to me, not unacceptable so long as even if it stings, it doesnt sink to a stink.

I did have fun with AK and a few others altho the 2009 me will probably find it less shiok to dig and prick. What did I get out of it, really?

Some men are bad, some are batmen. Some women are ngiow like cat, some are catwomen. But at the end of the day, they will or will have to get along……..imagine, in Batman, no catwoman. Throw in the penguin and the joker, and the fight starts all over again but the story becomes complete and it sells………

  28. Hi Guys

U already hd all your says. No more please other than cycling shd be posted here.

It takes lots of efforts 2 promote cycling in SHC. Rite now we can see the number climbing steadily. Come n join the sessions n let’s enjoy the beautiful views n company.

Who knows u may be lucky 2 catch glimpses of our members’ new bikes.

    Hi RonW

Wld u spare time 2 coach CJ (Oi Cheng’s bf) this round? Tks.

    Hi Mary, Tim n Lydia

    Are u guys coming?

  29. YK, thanks for appointing RonWi to coach CJ. But this Saturday, we are unable to make it because we have to attend CJ’s niece wedding dinner.

So RonWi, happy rollerblading this time. Next session ok?

Heard from many that RonWi is a good coach. He once wanted to coach me and promised me that I would be able to cycle after that session but somehow we haven’t got started..

  30. Sure go and must go if you can make them into guys so that I can concentarte on my cycling……otherwise, always look at the round round thing they hav, I dont, and when I look at you. you have a round round thing but different, not nice to look at so how leh?

  31. Hi Tim

Yup, u are rite. Round round but nothing nice 2 look at. So u want a ride on it? Long or short? Guess the longer it gets rounder. Rite?

  32. Low in stamina and poor with eyesight, I wished I cd be like the twinkle-toe Ronaldo but sadly it’s a no-do. But thanks for yr offer of lending me yr round round thing……..I do sometimes get taunts from kids to play marbles and it will be great not to risk my marbles so I shall count on you.

Insofar as this Sat’s riding is concerned, if I can get to sneak out on time from another riding, will join you folks………

  33. Yew Kwong
I haven’t been cycling since the fall I had when Ron W was teaching me. I’m still a bit afraid to start again leh.
Anyway, I’ll be having a potluck gathering with some friends on that day, so won’t be able to make it.
    Thanks

  34. Hi Ronald #32

Our next cycling trip to Desaru is coming soon and it maybe a one day trip. Most of us are now warming up for this event with frequent long distance rides.

We had completed OCBC race and last Sunday’s NTU 128km round island bike rally.

Rene will lead this Saturday’s long distance ride to CV. She may cycle non stop to and fro, so do try and keep up with her.

  35. Hi Mary

Got to respect TaiLo’s request to refrain from speaking my mind but … would like to put in record what the obnoxious said the last time he insulted SHC women.

He insinuated that there are ‘some’ SHC married women having fun behind their husbands’ back (… that louse husband of mine is out of town …) whom he now praises, WTH …..

  36. Wow Wei, Gingko…I don’t believe leh, you really invest in a bicycle too. Looks like beside cycling, you guys & gals are parading your new bikes. I heard someone even custom made her bike…wow, thats interesting!

Chin Boon Chin Boon, remember to check your bicycle tyres before setting off hor…otherwise you are in good hand under our night rider Rene. Don’t think Rene will bring a small pump or spare tyre tube to stand by like Douglas. This time round, Rene is not going to say 1,2 cha cha…she will tell you to “cheong”……and don’t get distracted by “pretty” gals along the way and “bump” onto the lampost as in the case of Douglas…hahahaaaaa…enjoy your rides!

    Ah Nee

  37. wow… this thread is hot.. mouse to louse ..

YK, I would love to come cycling with you guys, and get into the thick of “action” .. however, i’ve singing lessons on Saturday afternoons… so, unless i skip my “la..la..la”.. i’ll hv to miss the “ooo..la.la” at ECP. If you guys hv a Sunday afternoon cycle, pls let me know. I’d like to rekindle my lost passion in cyling.

    cheers.

  38. Ah Nee @46,

Long distance cyclists have to ensure they are fully pump up and all of us have a/more spare tyre(s) in one way or another. No need to bring any of these. This time, I will say 1,2 “cheong arh” . Guys, please insure extra coverage if you cannot focus straight.

    Cheers

  39. Hi Ah Nee

Let me tell u what u can xpect subjects 2 last minute changes. Gingko, Rene, Grace n Kathryn’s bikes are all chio.

    Hi Lydia

Move your singing 2 ECP as well.

    Hi Rene

    Thanks 4 leading the riders.

    Hi Mary

    U coming?

  40. Hi Yew Kwong / Douglas ,

I would like to join for the 3pm long ride to Changi V.

    Hi Douglas,

……Our next cycling trip to Desaru is coming soon and it maybe a one day trip.

1 DAY ??? Oh oh . I was almost exhausted when I reached Desaru on a V. HOT Sunny Baked Afternoon. Almost BBQ.
A sigh of relief when we quickly changed and dip ourselves in the chalet’s swimming pool and a good night sleep. Dead tired , No energy for dreams.

If it a 2 day affair, I may consider joining you all to replay the beautiful memories.

Instead of Desaru, are there any new places in Johore that we can cycle to ?

  41. Yew Kwong
    #49
Thank you again for the invitation, but I already explained in #41. Think you missed it.
Wait, one day I might pick up enough courage to make another attempt.
The bruises that I sustained took almost a month to disappear, but the apprehension is taking longer, hehe.
    You all have fun!

  42. Yew Kwong,
Hee hee. Sorry lah. It’s just a small group of us at my place. Don’t know if I will ever be ready to cycle again but I will keep that in mind.
    Thanks

  43. Hi Yew Kwong,

How are you! Thank you of organising this activities.

Having been missing the fun of cycling because always coincide with other activities.

But for tomorrow, I can join you & your team at 4pm.

I’ve also invite another SHC member to join us, Don’t be surprise!

    Regards
    Gibson Tan – Beginner

  44. Hi EOs,

Sorry for the absence? My place was raining heavily at abt 3p so decided to give it a miss.

See u on the next cycling event.

    Susan Tan
