  3. hi Vivian

  4. Hi Vivian Lai!
Long time no see no hear. All is well?
I’ve been busy running around like a headless chicken preparing for my move from old home to new home. Didn’t see your post till now, so sorry…
So glad to see you taking up the role of EC for the laughter exercises in the east!
Here are some pointers that I have learned from Ms Zaibun’s laughter sessions at Hort Park:
Laughter reduces the level of stress hormones. A good belly laugh exercises the diaphragm, contracts the abs and works out the shoulders, leaving muscles more relaxed. It provides a good workout for the heart. It is an easy and gentle exercise.
If, in the beginning, you find it hard to laugh, go ahead to pretend to laugh. Studies show that the body does not know the difference between “faked” and “real” laughter. Therefore, even if you are faking laughter (at the beginning), your body will still benefit from the positive effects of the (faked) laughter .
For maximum benefit, remember to laugh out loud, heartily, from the diaphragm. Expel all the stale air from your lungs and breath in fresh air.
HOH HOH HOH HAH HAH HAH….
Happy laughing, Vivian. All the best! And please say “hello aunty” for me, to your mom!

Well, Jacqueline-H, my butty Bo Pungsai, long suffering from constipation, will tell you that it works just as well for him.

See, when he exercises his belly and laughs, he loosens all muscles including his bowel muscles. He expels all that he stores for a month with plenty of gas coming out which frightens and makes ddogs bark and babies cry. He laughs but it’s no joke bcos when he walks away, the road sweeper has a week’s work to ddo.

So, a caution to those with loose bowels or still wear diapers : this laughing exercise is certainly not a laughing matter, worst, if you fake yr laughs and what comes out are real and really embarrassing.

  6. Laughter is the best medicine. But by the scarcity of input Laughter is anything but fun. If we force a laugh it is not natural.

Laughter should be spontaneous and comes from the heart.
Imagine telling a guy with so much emotional problem to join the laughter club and force a laugh from him. He may just go nuts and land himself in IMH. What he really needs is counselling and a listening ear not people ‘laughing’ at his emotional problem. Hahaha !

Life in S’pore for many is too stressful to laugh. You should thank God you are not crying each day. Many are.

Laugh if you can but do no put on a pretence facade.

    My personal opinion only.
