Dolly Lim steps down as Club Manager

Dolly, as we all know her by this name, is stepping down as SHC Club manager this month. Well, many of you know how dedicated and crazy Dolly is. She has put in a lot of effort to fulfil the club’s objective. Unfortunately, she has to be out of Singapore for a period of time due to work commitments. No, she is not doing the disappearing act. I am sure her heart is still with us.

Meantime, I shall take back the role, until such a time as we have another SHCian in place. Hmm, you are free to raise your hand.

Thank you Dolly.

  1. Terence, This morning I log in and saw that Dolly is stepping down as Club Manager. She did a really good job to regular the clubs functions and activities. Kudos to her.

I am a learning man and quite a rather new member. Am I qualified to help bring Silverhairs under your guidance to a new level.

If I am, I will volunteer the service. Thank you.

  2. All SHC members,
Rest assured that I am not doing the disappearing act and any other hidden agenda for this step down. It is the only reason as quoted by Terence here given by me – 95% of my time will be in China factory leaving only 5% back to SG for family which is vry important to me. Sorry that I hv to disappoint many of you but I am sure that there will be lots of capable/selfless potential candidates suitable for this role.

I sincerely thanks Terence for giving me this opportunity eventhough the period is short. I had learn alot more about SHC.

But I wont be disappearing from any events organised should the timing is right, I will definitely continue to support these events..

LeePatrick, fast of you to raise your hand but in my personal opinion, I don’t think that you are ready for the role as I felt that you still do not fully understand the culture of SHC – My 7cts worth.. no offence meant. But, of cos, if Terence think otherwise, good luck, he had the final say lor..

Last but not least, once I am more settled in China, some of you may come over to pay me a visit lor.. ai mai?

Best Regards and Many Thanks, Dolly

  3. Dear Dolly,

Thank you very much for your time and efforts spent for SHC, you are indeed a dedicated and resposible Club Manager. Hope to see you soon.

Wishing you all the best and a Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

Btw, as Dolly had so many years of experience with SHC, I think we need to seriously consider her 7cts worth of comment.

    Regards

    Jane

  4. Hi Dolly,
Just to wish you and Sam and other SHC members, a very JOYFUL CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Thanks for all your dedication and support to SHC and her members, all these time and also your balanced judgement.

BTW, where will you be in PRC? Shantou? Xinjiang? Sichuan? or Guangzhou? Just curious.

Vaya con Dios, wherever you find yourself.

  5. Dear Dolly
Sad to see you go. When you first took up the position, I had some doubts but they were quickly dispelled. You did a very good job in spite of being so busy. You were firm and impartial, which is how a manager should be.

It’s good that Terence has taken over for now as I believe that it’s not easy to find someone who can run the club, without any prejudice and favouritism.

Here’s wishing you well in your job and hope to see you sometime.
A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!

  6. Hi Dolly,

Thank you for a job well done under the circumstances. You made me feel very welcomed the few times that we met.

Good luck, merry christmas and a happy, happy, huat, huat 2010!!!…………

Appreciate your invaluable 7 cents’ worth. Well said.

    Lots of love,

  7. Hi Ah Huat3

Your girl friend go to China. Dolly plays golf. In Haikau, there are many handsome Hainanese men. She can become Tigress Wood. So you better learn golf and follow. I teach you for free and lend you my shoulder to cry.

  8. Hi Dolly,

No, you don’t owe any one of us any apology. Your past contributions speak volumes. On the contrary, I applaud you for making this decision. Due to the demands and expectations of your job and the role of Club Manager, you definitely have your hands full. It would have been very draining for you to excel in both roles, which I personally know you will strive to do.

Your organisational skill and drive have brought fun and laughter to so many of us and I know you will continue to be with us whenever time permits. And yes, I will think about visiting you when you are more settled – together with Charles Chua perhaps.

In the meantime, all the very best for the season and the new year!

    Cheers!

  9. Dear Dolly,

We met for the first time at SHC’s first D&D. I told myself, this gal can dazzle but cant danz, and she should prance very well. True enough.

We had many occasions prancing and, whether it was holding the lion’s head or flipping its tail, you were simply fabulous. And majestic. A dazzler who sparkles.

As a leader, you were only steps ahead without running too fast to cause us to huff & puff. When you had half a curry puff, you shared all with us.

As an organiser, you saw to every minute detail. Sometimes you might have come across as brazen and brash but then a feather duster must certainly have some hardness below the caressing smoothness.

I join fellow SHCians to wish you all the best in your future endeavours. No doubt, with easy internet access, you’re as close at home with us as you have always been.

    Take care and keep well.

    tim

  10. Hi Dolly-san

So much has been said. I fully agree with JohnH’s statement “that your hands are full”……..hehe…..”how to eat if you can’t take right?” You have indeed contributed a lot to SHC, be it time or organizing activities for us as well as being a Club Manager. You have my admirations and we fully understand why you need to step down. You do not have to feel obligated. You have done well !

Here’s wishing you too, a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and all the best in your future undertakings.

We are going to miss your bubbly presence here in Singapore…….and yeap, I will want to visit you when you are fully settled at Haikou. :)

    Take care & Cheers,
    Suzhang

  11. #1 Patrick

We are all over 45, in fact many over 50 and over 60. At this age, having been through the ups and downs of life, we all should be able to size up a situation and groove right into it. Don’t worry that you are a newbie but what is important the commitment and time you can afford.

Since the helm is now in the hands of Terence, let him decide. And of course thanks to Dolly running the club all these months.

  12. Hi Dolly

I’m sad to hear that you won’t be around for SHC Activities any more. You have the gift of putting people at ease and making them feel welcome, whether they join the activities often or only once in a while.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”, and “All the best in your future undertakings”.

    Cheers!
    Angela.

  13. Dolly Dolly, can’t imagine attending an event without you…certainly as a Club Manager, you have brought us much JOY & FUN, not forgetting those jokes you shared with us! So sad, so quite these days leh….. will miss your bubbly presence, hope to “siow siow” with you again whenever you are back in Singapore. I admired your sincerity & kindness as a friend and a capable & responsible person as a Club Manager. We are very lucky to have you in the past as a Club Manager, well done!

The Hainan Tour you specially organised for the 12 Lotus was really wonderful. I will never forget those moments, will visit you in Haikou if time permit. All the Best and take care!

I hope Terence can find someone like Dolly to take over this special role……

    Ah Nee

  14. As CM, Dolly had initiated many activies and they were usually well supported. She is dedicated and responsible, and many of us will miss her.

With so much in her hands to handle, this is a wisest decision for now.

I wish you all the best in your job in China. Take care and keep in touch. We can get together whenever you are back and have time to spare.

  15. Dear Dolly,

The first time i knew u, u were so patiently taught me how to dance sweetheart step, kiss heart step and all the hug hug steps like as if am your little sister. Now all those memories will be a history for me with your departure.

I shall not wishing you anything lest i will get emotional and cry and then all our fellow members will have a hard time catching my tears.

But i still have to say that u are a great “skipper”.

    Rose White

  16. Hi PatrickL #1,

It’s very nice of you to raise your hand and offer to be our club manager. I have heard of your experience at mc’ing big events. Can I ask you to organise an event for SHC members, sometime in Jan or Feb 2010. We take it from there. I look forward to hearing your thoughts via email. I can also have coffee with you at the cafe, anytime this week.

    Terence Seah

  17. Hi Dolly,

We are sure SHC members, including both of us, will dearly miss you and your presence. You, among many others, have brought soul and life to our Club. Be rest assured that you have the blessings of all of us. Thank you Dolly for the many pleasant memories.

All this while we have the mistaken notion that you the Queen of Sihglish. But today we are pleasantly surprised that you are equally adept in Standard English. You are a natural! To have this linguistic skill of switching codes at appropriate times is a gift which we envy.

May we wish you the best of the season and stay well and jovial. We have not heard the last of you yet as we are only a post away.

    Cheers!

    Robert & Kristy

  18. Hey I thought Dolly is only stepping down as CM but not leaving SHC and I am sure the ‘Öbasan’ will still be around whenever she can and her ‘voice’ can still be heard even if she is in China, tiok bo?

Anyway career has to take priority and I am sure she has taken into consideration all the scarifices she has to make in the final decision.

It only leave me to wish our Obasan all the best in her future endeavours……. Looks like Sam Huat Huat will be very busy chaying puay kee to Haikou from now on kekekekek

    Sockie

  19. Terence has called for volunteers to man the SHC Fort as the new CM. Patrick, without hesitation, gallantly and enthusiatically, answered to his call. This will hopefully lead the way for others, who have the time and passion to rise to the occasion. This augers well for the bright future of our Club.

Terence has just responded positively to Patrick’s offer and invited him to organise the next SHC event. So Patrick, you have been given this opportunity to contribute and, if appointed as the new CM,lift our Club to greater heights.

    Cheers and bottoms up!

    Robert

  20. Jeff, with your remarks re: newbie also can try 2b CM, I also 1 2 try my kung fu 4 this role.. Tks 4 d encouragement, mayb dat was not meant 4 me, hehehehe…

Terence, any chance 4 me 2b CM bo?

    Sam Huat Huat Huat

  21. I haven’t posted for a long time but I’m doing now to wish Dolly all the best in her career/job/business in China.

Terence, how about a voting system for the new CM as you now have 2 applicants?

    Cheers
    Ros

  22. Dear Dolly,

You’ve done SHC proud as a Club Manager thru’ your relentless time & effort put into organising any event, and this has certainly earned most members’ admiration.

I wish you well in your chosen career path, as I believe you’re at your best to make a wise decision in this respect. Will certainly catch up with you at one of the dancefloors, either in SGP or Haikou, whenever we can.

Its encouraging to note members who voluntarily step forward for the role of a CM, assisting Terence in running the Club. Bro Pat, you’re given the opportunity to organise an event for us members, am sure you already have some impending ones ‘up your sleeve’, go ahead and roll it out! You have our support and I’ve no qualms in you doing well.

Sam Huat, Huat, Huat ah!….you’re another bubbly character. JetstarAsia has started its flights to Haikou @ a low fare of $58.00, you may want to grab a few seats before midnite of 16 Dec ’09. Do keep me posted via email should you be planning a group trip to visit Dolly Muay in the near future. Kudos to you too ~ you’re very sporting to chair the Dec Gathering, will support you if I’m in town!

    Cheers!

  23. Hi Dolly,

Best wishes in your job posting. Thanks for all your charitable initiatives & selfless service to SHC club activities while you were CM.

Hi PatrickL & Sam Huat & other potential CMs,

You have a tough act to follow. Regardless, may you bring SHC club activities to greater heights in 2010 in your own special ways.

  24. Dear Dolly,

Let me join in the queue of well-wishers.
Wherever you are, whatever you do; may blessings be with you.

Yes, pl have my name on your visitor list…
    And I will miss you…

  25. Here’s Wishing Dolly good wishes, and all the best in your future endeavours. I am sure you’ll excel, given your dedication & firm (almost harsh) style of handling matters. You did a good job, and have left hugh shoes to be filled.

I applaud Pat Lee and Ah Huat, who have so gallantly raised their hands. Both gentlemen have their strong points. I’ve had the oppotutnity to get to know Pat, and given that he has much spare time, and possess excellent writing skills, would be in a good position to bring the club to greater heights. As for Ah Huat, his jokes & very presence makes us laugh. He is a barrel of fun to be with.

Perhaps we could even have 2 CMs, instead of one! I am in favour of having 2 CMs. Why don’t we put this issue to a vote, afterall, it is our very own club, and members should have a say. Perhaps we can let both guys organise one event each, and we take it from there…?

    Cheers.

  26. Hi Dolly,
Fully understand your decision.Wishing you success in your career in China. shi4 shi4 ru2 yi4. :)

If you have the time, hope you organise a golfing trip to Hainan Is. for golfers/wannabes in SHC so that they’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the golf courses there.

Take good care of yourself and see you when you are back. So kesian you – now only have 5% of your time with your family and friends in S’pore. Hmm…

  27. Hi Dolly,
I can’t help but join in the rest to wish you all the very best in your move to China. From all the well-wishers and positive remarks given, need I say more but to thank you for doing such a great job. I’m sure you’ll not forget us and like Tim said, you’re only an internet away and with modern technology these days, no place is ever too far away, so do keep in touch and join in our activities whenever your time permits. Thanks again for your invitation to visit you when you’re more settled down, so will hold you to it and don’t be surprised if/when we do show up at your doorstep. here’s wishing you Merry X’mas and Happy New Year 2010! May the new year bring you to even greater heights in your career. Best wishes, Lisa

  28. Dearest Dolly

I remember very clearly the first time I spoke with you regarding registration of the 1st SHC D&D. You were so helpful and friendly and I immediately thought I would like to be friends with you.

You made everyone so welcome at the D&D and I had such a wonderful time there, getting to know the other members. The games you put up made me laugh till I cried. Any event you organise never fail to please.

All these years, I know I can have your strong shoulders to cry on, your patient listening ears and your kind comforting words coming out from your heart when I need them. There will always be much fun and laughter with you around. I will miss all these.

Yes, I agree with fellow SHCians that you have left a huge shoe to fill.

I wish you all the best and may you have good health, good fortune and happiness, wherever you may be.

Take care my buddy. Like what Lily said, will see you when I see you.

    Luv
    Carly

  29. Hi Terence,

    An extra gentle reminder.

A CM is very different from an EO. A wrong choice will bring the morale down. It is a huge responsibility; having lots of free time is not a criteria. Look at Dolly – did so well despite working full-time. You made a great choice.

The next CM must not be on a power/ego trip, an attention seeker, annoying, bad-mouthing the founder/club/members, braggy, expecting flattery, expects members to suck-up to, the list is endless.

In a nutshell, please do not appoint a JERK/LOSER.

If this position is open to nomination, I already have a lady in mind. She is very real, sincere with a great heart.

  30. Hi Dolly,

Here’s wishing you all the best in your future endeavours, good health, good fortune and happiness.

Thanks for serving yr role as CM and you did it well.

  31. Hi Dolly

What a shocking surprise on your stepping down from CM post and worst still spending 95% of your time in China. I heard you talking last Sat nite at dinner table chatting with Sam, Lily & Thomas but I thought you are only going outstation for a short trip and coming back during the cabaret event.

I’m gonna miss you lah my dear esp your laughing & cheerful mood. Hope when you are in China do write in SHC forum so that we could still chat ok? Wish you all the best in whatever you do. Take care & stay happy always.

    Hamidah

  32. Hi Geraldine Ting /Lydia Ong ,

    I fully agreed with Geraldine’s comment @30 but not Lydia Ong’s comment @ 26,

One who has too much of spare time, and possess excellent writing skills are NOT good criteria to be a CM.

What matters most,is he/she must be good in public relations and fully committed.

He/she should be able to see “eye to eye” with other members and not be judgemental.

  33. Hey Sweet Steven,

You are safely home from KL. Yay………….

Absolutely. Good PR skill is a MUST!! Totally forgotten about this criteria. How could I (a PR person, hello)?? Geez…….must be the stress.

Now I must add PEOPLE SKILLS; not being an asshole. Pardon my french, Terence. Already I have restrained myself out of respect for you and the rest of the pleasant members.

Can’t wait to see you again, sweet giraffe/decorator with a bright vision. Mwah!

    Lots of love and hugs,

  34. Hi Geraldine Ting,

Thanks v.much for your well wishes and love.

Unlike some self-conceited “LOW fatt yehs” who have TOO much time bragging , me no maid has to take charge of all household chores and 70 over potted plants and…..

See the bougainvillea, orchid or other plants growing healthily and blooming well is one way that helps to lift up my mood.

We are V.HAPPY that you are able to sacrifice so much of your time and effort as the See Tau Por of the club to finally made it to our cabaret in time.

With lots of BEAR HUGS till you gasp out of breath and I have to give you the KISS of Life. Ha! ha! :)

  35. Dolly Lim will be much missed as SHC’s Club Manager. Her capabilities and contributions may be hard for any aspirant to emulate. So why not tweak the acronym a little, free up more to be chosen and so ease the selection process ?

Corrupt Monyets, Cheeky Monkeys there are plenty.

Con Men love money and so they come with a Clear Mission

Celibate Matrons are born with Celebrated Morals, so it’s said

The Cavort Moguls will bring you many slick Cellidh Moves.

    Not forgetting the Clever Maestro

If he cant convince, he sure can confuse

To leave out the Curvy Mamasan is catastrophic

For her caterwauls will bring any house to order.

So why fuss over the need for CM to mean only Club Manager?

We have a surplus of CMs of Chief Minister material

C’Mon, loosen up and open up

Chapati, Mooncakes, Carrots, Melons also can……………………………..

  36. Hi Dolly,

You know sth, we had separated for almost 2-1/2 decades then we met again. Now to hear that you will not be able to spent much time in Spore, there is definitely a sense of something is lost for me and our SHCs. We will miss you.

Am very sure is not a easy decision for you to make and I join in the rest to wish you all the very best in your in your future endeavours, good health, good fortune and happiness.

Wherever you are, whatever you do; may blessings be with you and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

Oh yes, I definitely hope that you can include me in your visitors list.
    Take care, cheers,

    Caroline Gee,
I am very glad to hear the good news that you will be back with us in the ” cabaret night”.

Take care, looking forward to meet you.
    Lilian

    Cheers.. Dolly

  38. Hi Dolly,

I wish you all the best in your career and future endeavours.
Understand most of the time you will be in China and some time for your family. As such, it will be wonderful and
and most valueable if you can find some time to meet
up with SCHians when you are home.

I remembered you specially arranged the Hainan holiday for the 12 Lotus. It was a successful trip. It gave me fond memories especially the night before departure in Haikou at the open air seafood restaurant. We karaoke a few English songs that evening, one of which was “Beautiful Sunday”. The cheerful melody made everyone so lively and happy.
Thank you again for your time and kind effort.

Here, I wish you and family a Merry X’mas and a Happy 2010 and may all your wishes come true..

    Best Regards
    Lin

  39. Ya, Lin chuah….those sweet memories of Hainan Island, beautiful beach, scenic mountain plus the 12 Lotus! We all enjoyed ourselves very much…so much so that our English song “Beautiful Sunday” cheers everyone, especially the locals dining at the restaurant nearby the Beach. Thanks Dolly again for organising this memorable Hainan Tour! :)

    Ah Nee

  40. Dolly, no internet access? No problem. Try the tested and trusted pigeon but if you prefer a bit more stealth, send bats at night. Guarantee the bats will return to you………… and a pot of pigeon soup awaits each time you return to Spore……………

  41. Hi Dolly,

I am travelling to Haikou from 30Dec to 04 Jan with a group of 10 pax. We have not plan for an itinerary yet. Would appreciate if you can recommend some interesting sight-seeing places, good restuarants and pub/dance floor etc… I can be contacted at jenniferlim@pacific.net.sg

We will missed you as SHC CLub Manager, with you around there is much fun and laughter. I wish you all the best in your future career and future endeavours.

    Regards,
    Jennifer Lim

  42. Helo dear missy Dolly..

When i heard that you are leaving the club…i thot..why?
but just ‘retiring’ from being CM,phew!

I am more sad that you will be in China most of the time…not about u stepping down, bcos you have done a very good job…you are a rare gem!..mana boleh find another?

Alamak that means, we wont see each other more often…banyak susah le…apa macam?…but you can still makan lontong at my place…hehe

I missed the Hainan trip(the girls had much fun!).. hope i wont miss another, pls do after April boleh tak?
I am so grateful, whenever we go tour,u always ensure that
    i can eat ‘certain’ food,if not,you’ll ‘whisper’..thats so sweet cute gesture,only a special fren wud do!…thank you Dolly…now u made me teared!

All being said…I wish you best of luck in your new environment, good health & brand new life! & im sure you will easily make new frens..but wont be as good as us in SHC lah….haha :)

  43. Hahaha, Tim, will test n c which is beta hor, bat or pigeon?

LianHuays, yeap, we hv good time back den n at times, while looking at those pics, brought back good memories…

Nor sayang, will take note of your reqt but will depend much on workload den, boleh?

Alamak, Jennifer, plan a trip when I am supposed 2 go back SG for NY countdown wif sum of SHC members at Kovan CC. Nevertheless, will write 2 ur email for place of interest in Hainan. But pls bear in mind dat Haikou/Hainan is very cold now except 4 Sanya which is around 20DegC but from Haikou 2 Sanya is about 3hrs bus ride so suggest that u book tour from SG unless u dun mind a only Chinese speaking tour guide… Cheers.. Dolly

  44. After reading so many accolades by quite a few members, it seems that I have missed an opportunity to meet a great and wonderful lady.

I am a newbie as far as participation in activities is concerned and has not crossed your path so far. I do hope I will be able to meet some wonderful people on the SHC. Let’s learn to be less opinionated and make SHC a wonderful place ones want to belong to.

May I wish you the best in whatever you do and be happy always.

  45. Hi Steven, if my memory din failed me, I think we had met b4 in 1 of d cycling event la, u r d 1 dat told me dat u hv no tx 2 read SHC cmts or emails cos u hv at least more 100 mails 2 read a day rite.. r u d 1?

  46. Helo Dolly,
Wishing you all the best in your career advancement. We will all missed you but hope we can still catch up when you are back. Take care and stay healthy.
Wishing you “A MERRRY XMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR”

  47. Goody. Dolly is no longer the CM.:-)) She would now be back to her “siow” self again. I personally feel she was rather serious whn she became the CM…..hardly any crazy remarks in the forum etc.

But then I also agree with MaryChan at #5…it is not easy to be impartial, without any prejudice and favouritism.

Like Sockie said in #19…we will still be able to hear the Obasan’s voice even if she is in China. Hope she will make time to write more in the forum like before. Just that there will be double “headache” hving to read not only Sam’s but Dolly’s as well….””tis tx tat tx..”” ..:-)))

  48. Wei Wei???

Have been very busy with work and hardly go online lately.

I am not good at expressing my emotion in words neither am I good at showing my affection.

All appreciative words have been mentioned and I need not repeat it here. For sure, you will be missed!

Cheers to your new challenge and a Fresh2010.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year,
    Rene

  49. Hello Dolly-Obasan,

Wishing you well as you move on to your new position. Wherever you are and whatever you do, may you find happiness.

Hope that when we see lesser of you doesn’t mean we will hear lesser from you. So do drop a line or two sometimes on the forum on how you are faring.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  50. Hi everybody,

We have a number of SHCians who have expressed their thoughts on the next CM. For the moment, I shall manage this role. There are many capable SHCians fitting this role, with ideas, vision and dedication to SilverHairs. Until, you just have to bear with me. ok?

    Terence Seah

  51. Thanks for all the hard work put in by all the SHC members.
I am sure most of the functions are well participated with so many people willing to help one another.
Anyone interested in attending “line dancing” on 9th January 2010(Saturday) at Marine Parade Community Club – Multi purpose Hall from 1730 to 2130hrs. Tickets are at only $3.00 only .Refreshments included. Please let me know early or get your tickets from MPCC counter.

  52. Back to the subject of Club Manager. It is important to have a new Club Manager so that we can have new ideas, new activties and new directions.

As expected by most SHCians, the Club manager has to be well accepted, reasonably fair and active.

We do have many EOs and Event Coordinators. So, what does the Club manager do? Setting direction is important. It does not have to be all play. It can be something more serious eg more charity activities, more investment talks, more cooking ideas and more care programs. If you have a vision to engage in more of such activities, please raise your hand.

    Let’s try again.

    Terence Seah

  53. I have always intended to spend more time with my family. To reallocate my time, I have decided that we have a club manager to run the club, especially the Monthly Gatherings, which is a must to achieve the club’s objective.

Of course, each of us would run the club in a manner seen fit. This morning, I had a discussion with Dolly Lim, and she has agreed to manage SilverHairsClub, especially the monthly gatherings, from April 2011 to Jan 2012.

For everyone who would like to participate or be involve in the monthly gatherings, please do refer to Dolly Lim.

Thank you so much Dolly for accepting this role.
