Catching a movie in the morning

I just finished my breakfast in a shopping centre, here in Melbourne. Strolling around, I notice a long queue of seniors, approx 80 people. Busybody as usual, I got to the front of the queue to see what the excitement was all about. It’s 10am and every of these seniors were rushing to see the 11 am movie. It was cash only, just show the seniors concession card. There were a number of shows available eg there was “A single man”, “Up in the air”, “Fantastic Mr Fox” and “Crazy heart”.

I don’t see this in Singapore. Guess most of us are too busy, no time for such trivials or it’s just not in our culture. Maybe we just settle for DVDs at home.

Thinking aloud, I think this is a great retirement life, for seniors.

  2. Hi Karen,

I must admit I didnt know it’s only $4 per movie M-F in Singapore. This must be one benefit being a Singapore senior citizen.

In this case, one day, we can all go see a movie together. Hmm, probably another activity for SHC.

I guessed as much that u did not know it but I am not in your group yet (haha) ..Senior Citizen is 55 and above so alot of SHC members are still below 55 of age …

Should it be a good new or bad new to buy the $4/ticket ??

  4. Hi Terence @# 2,

    My 2-cent worth…

The weekday late morning time slot is good to hold activities for pple who can make it…several advantages to enjoy. I think we can try to exploit this time slot, so besides movie-going, any other good ideas? I can think of exploring pockets of S’pore on the bus/on foot…

Looking forward to weekday late morning rendezvous… :)

  5. Jass-T,

CBSBE = Chiak ba si bei eng.

CLTK = Choong liong tup kuak.

Maybe the Greek equivaleent is smthg like this : Hreeik miereice odisekn preenictu.

Btw, I too confirm my attendance at the March Money Getdering, too lazy to find that thread.

  6. Tim @# 7,

With understanding of CBSBE, I detect strong small boy jealousy in the air! Ok, I can tup your kuat, but then you’ll have to be in CBSBE mode too ( not advisable to tup while you’re hard at work, right?), so join the CBSBE clique? :)

  7. Small boy has time for jealousy but old man me has to zealously sweat at work…..sometimes dunno what hits me. Missiles come from everywhere but it’s shiok, being 1 experience I never had, better than idling on beanbag.

With so many CCAs, kid doesnt need her oldman to play hide-n-seek anymore so hv a bit more time to Eng. K’ok is my best Enging and will hv 1 again 2nite near where I work.

Now, with age on my side, some lyrics hv become more meaningful e.g. Siong Sek Ya Si Yun Funn (Canto). My fan club is growing. Certainly the angpows I gave to the waiters/waitresses were enough to buy some ear plugs and keeping some as tips.

  8. Hi Terence

Yes, I’ve been making use of this service for senior citizens i.e. paying $4 for any movie, Mon – Fri anytime before 5 pm.

It’s really worth it and sometimes you get the whole cinema to yourself! Haha

    Cheers,
    Gabriella

  9. Hi Tim @# 9,

Hit by missiles? You need to invest in a Patriot Missile Interceptor!
Jokes aside, seriously, I think you are going thru a bout of POST MID-LIFE CRISIS!. This is a common affliction, so ask your butties who have been there for advice. :)

    Cheers

  10. Jass-T, me in post mid life crisis and shd ask my butties who had been there for advice?

    Haha……………..

The only crisis is in my wallet. Just dunno how to keep my money and save up.

Seriously and thank you. If my age today is mid-life, I will live beyond a decade. With the Govt raising the retirement age as it raises its demand on productivity, this meanss I’ll be in deep shiit. And that will really be a crisis.

Btw, my butties who had gone thru MLC are now all housed together, fed and cared for by the State. yes, they hv all gone mad……..and you want me to talk to them? That too will be another crisis.

My only affliction (sometimes, affectation, mostly affection) is in k’ok. Last nite, sang in the company of a couple several years older. What I liked best abt them was their careful and judicious choice of songs. No tear-jerker, no lyric containing blame or regret but love, trust and devotion, with exaltations for each other of their everlasting love. I almost asked him whether i cd borrow her for a candlelight dinner.

  11. Tim @# 12,

Can’t keep your money – it just flows off from your wallet? I’m reminded that “a fool and his money are soon parted”……………..don’t be the chap in the quote, hor.

Seriously, consider buying lifelong annuity policies with your cpf savings …….otherwise it might all go to your fan club (@# 9)of mercenaries, right? :(

    My 2-cent worth…

  12. Yes, Jass-T, I am that fool. And worse. If I knew how to control myself to save up, I wd hv retired like my older siblings but hor, they being goodies, married well and the women watched over their men. Checked their wallets, socks and underpants for stashed away $.

Annuity policies? Not for me. Other than my woman (if she exists) who saves for me, I dread receiving monthly handouts, with money which actually belongs to me.

  13. Hi Terence!

When are U organising one in the morning do let me know esp if it’s in AMK Hub and bet 15-10 Mar school holis!
I’ve the entitlement to Senior citizen, so $4 for any during off-peak hrs!
    Cheers!

  14. Hi CatH, Gabriella, Jass,

I am defintely interested in morning moviews for seniors. I am still a few months to 55, so got to wait till then. I am now are that the Singapore movie industry does provide us seniors with a low ticket price before 5pm Mon-Fri. Saves me going to JB for a cinema show. We catch up then.

Maybe, SHC should be on the look out for other attractive offers and welcome discounts for members.
