Another no frills trip to North Thailand

I am planning to enjoy the cold weather in North Thailand during the month of Nov.  This is a no-frills trip, don’t expect 4-star hotels or always proper sit-down dinner.  The last time I was there was about a year ago.

Some SilverHairs have already requested to change the venue of the last Chonburi trip.  Unfortunately, Vincent Khoo, a long time retiree, has some assignments and unable to organise a Northern Thailand trip.  Well, this time, we have someone who is crazy about mountain views, camping and sleeping at National Parks at between 10 – 20C temperature,  visiting fresh markets, sitting besides the Mekong river at 5pm, loves fresh clean air, enjoys smelling beautiful orchides, good and cheap beers, loves a cup of instant noodles, loaded with plenty of vegetables, enjoys country living and dinner on the grass at a hill resort.

His name is Sompho, speaks good English, and I would say he is great at helping us "SilverHairs" feel young.  Dont worry, no mountain climbing.  He works in Singburi province, but will take the time to bring us around.  I am agreed to join this trip.

November in North Thailand is a great time, the rain has stopped, weather should be pretty dry and temperatures should be in the 20’s.  Sweaters required.

The schedule is not confirmed yet.  But, it is likely to be like this.  Arrive and meet at ChiangMai airport on Thur Nov 2, 12nn, and depart ChiangMai airport Thur Nov 9 by 12nn.  Itinery would include mountain resorts which you are likely not to have visited, the Golden triangle, Mekong river.

If you are interested to join this trip, please reply and register here.  We hope this trip will serve as a great platform for SilverHairs to know one another better.  This trip is strictly for SilverHairs members only.  No Children.  Closing date: 25 Aug 12nn. Max number of persons: 2 vans.

  1. The trip sounds interesting since the focus would be more on the outdoor, the scenery and mountain type terrain and climate rather than shopping. Hope my assessment is correct! If so, do count me in. Let us know what flight the goup should book on so that we can travel together from start to end.

  2. I had some free time, checked with Tigerairways website, and found this. I recommend those who are going to book the flights in pairs. Book now it is cheaper. I am confirmed to go.

  3. Hi All,
Anyone looking for a “partner” to book the flight to Chiangmai as suggested by Terence? I haven’t got one yet and would be happy to “pair” up with someone going for the trip. Do contact me at 65452386 or email: eveylyn@hotmail.com
so that I can forward the relevant personal particulars for you to book for me. I’ll settle payment either before or after you’ve done the booking whichever is convenient to you. Thanks a lot to the kind soul who responds to this.

  4. Yes Terence, let’s do it together. Thanks for “volunteering” to be my “partner” for ticketing purposes. Do call me when you’re in town so that we can settle details etc.
Looking forward to Chiang Mai already.
Also, the camping trip at Bangkok posted in your other mail, sounds great but one night stay is too short. As you’ve mentioned, it would be good if a person who wishes to join in, happen to be in Bangkok around that time. Incidently, I’ve just returned from a five-day “expedition” or camping trip too. However, this is in Johore where flora and fauna still abound in the Forest reserves or National Parks.

  5. From Kenneth & Helen Tan
Just a short note to inform you and other interested members:

I shall be in Chiang Mai from November 1 to 9, 2006 both for the Loy Kratong and the International Flower Expo (Nov to Jan 2007). You can go to http://www.royalfloraexpo.com for more details.

I can be of assistance to other members who wish to consider a trip to CM either at this time or other date by suggesting travel arrangements, hotels or guest houses and food places.

Keep up the good work of SilverHairs Club and look forward to meeting you guys this coming Friday 25.

  6. Greetings fellow travellers

I have been very busy the last 2 weeks and have not logged on till now. For those who have confirmed travelling, I know a couple of you but not all so I look forward to this month’s gathering on 25Aug, if possible to “see u face to face” :)) How’s that? Anyway, look forward to seeing U then!

  7. Greetings to each of you!

Our trip to Chiang Mai ends on 9Nov(Thu). I have not been to Bangkok itself for many years so would like to pass thru if possible. (I am sure Terence can give some guidance as to how to get there from CM).
Anyone interested to extend 2 to 3 days to Bangkok? [my email: chrischan5575@yahoo.com]

  8. Christina,

The plan is for participants to fly from Singapore to Chiangmai, and from there the trip starts.

You can either book an internal flight from Chiangmai to Bangkok or take a 10 hour coach down. Recommend take the flight.

I would fly back from Chiangmai to Singapore.

  9. To all participants, the week of Nov 2 – 9 will also include one of the most biggest celebration in Thailanad. This is the Loy Krothong festival. Thais, young and old, families and couples will sail little floats down the river, and watch the candle lights flicker from afar. We will enjoy this celebration.

I will be in Singapore on 24 Aug, and for those interested, we can book the airtickets together.

    Cheers. Terence Seah

  13. Just got a note from Maria that she will not be able to make this trip, as she is on a new job and cannot take leave. Regretably one less from our van. Anyone interested to take her place?

  14. May I know when is the next schedule trip? There are many long week-ends in Calendar year 2007. Is especially good for those who are working. Can leverage on anyone of you guys or gals as guide? So, can start planning to book cheap budget air tickets way ahead. A bit of Kiasu lah and save $$$ too :))

  15. Hi Rene,

There is some background work, organising to Kanchanaburi, place where the Japanese entered Thailand, but just before Myanmar. Beautiful river, greens, river houses, scenaries and food.

Will have update early next year.
