SHC members are creative, knowledgeable, fun and out of this world. We have all reached a stage when some of us are entering the second phase of their lives. Still for some, the adventure starts at the third stage. But, there are plenty of things we want to do. We want to climb trees. We want to travel to places we have never been to. To Ho Chinh Minh, to Bandung. To Taiwan. To ….. We want to get out of the four walls. All these 30 years, we have been working.
We want to cycle all over the island, and to places other cyclists have been to. We want to pick up dancing, and dance all night. Gosh, there is no end. And, we always tell ourselves, we need to start somewhere.
SHC, on its own, does not organise any activity. It is purely a platform whereby SilverHairs get to meet new friends. Activities are always, as a result, of these gatherings. Activities are also the result of initiatives of members. Membership is simple. It is also lifetime; and all members are encouraged to organise at least one activity during the life of their membership.
Back to Porn night. I like to dream. Of course, share the dream with you too. This time around, I have been thinking that a Porn night will work for us. We are all over 45. Nothing too shy to discuss and nothing too inhibitive to consider such ideas as absurd, vulgar and distasteful. We open our minds and our ears. We see and we participate. Why not?
We all know what is a porn magazine. There are porn websites. Some are free, and others are pay-to-view. There are sex shops, that sell exciting things like used underwears and used condoms. Our kids are equally exposed to porn. My 11-year old son is now asking me, "Pa, come and have a look". So, much about porn.
If we open our minds, and if we have a Porn night, what and how do you think this event will be like? I think Nov and Dec are tempting months. Let’s go for it.

Allow me to elaborate on Christina’s #8 fair comment on that, my personal experience shows, for a FIT & HEALTHY male Silverhair, at this stage to establish a permanent relationship with the opposite sex, probably a younger foreign female (am 27yrs senior over my Indonesian wife and we have two daughters age seven & three) is a superb motivator for a “new lease of life” and respectfully my take is even for a childless relationship, focused with “a till death do us part” would prove wholesomely satisfactory as manifested by my peer-friend’s near ten year sojourn in Penampang, Sabah, East Malaysia with a early 40s Kadazan/Chinese woman.

With regard to Terence’s fair comment #25, my observation through the years is the Chinese Sporeans ten to be “Kor-kah-ki” and when both parents are no more alive, it is not uncommon siblings only meet one another at relatives’ celebration parties or at one of the latter’s funeral.
During my short stint as a CC volunteer in 1997/8, on fact-finding assignments for destitute assistance, I did come across on four occasions (not once regarding Chinese Sporeans) where adult siblings of Malay Sporeans, either with two brothers and one sister or with two sisters and one brother (usually with one sibling divorced) living together with their young children. My take is Chinese Sporeans do not welcome such a living-together since the 70s.
The Thais, Filipinos and Malays are culturally entrenched in such a family mode of adult siblings living under one roof, and the sibling or in-law who is more affordable will not mind to shoulderr a heavier load as testified by the utilisation of Filipino & Indonesian maids’ remittances whereby more than half of unmarried maids’ remittances support the upkeep of their uncles/aunts and in-laws/nephews and nieces.
Patronage is highly respected in these cultures where the “hardware” of meritrocracy is less paramount than the dispensing of the “software” compassion & genourousity. These non-Sporeans tend to be wary “when the pot gets bigger, cause of more crumbs”. I have now learned to take off the pragmatic Spore thinking-cap when dealing with my in-laws/relatives. Otherwise it can become a continual feeling of exasperation when urgency/priority is lukewarm as…….Besuk bisa/Tomorrow can….Nggak bisa terburu/No need to hurry. The Sporean’s “obsession” with speed, accuracy and punctuality when markedly tempered, makes him/her a leading choice with any foreign partner.

Now, many years hv since passed, & in the context of SHC, all of us are above 45 years, many of us are no longer single, some of us are even happy & contented grand dads & mums. I believe that V shud allow for some adjustments in at least one of the taboos, namely Sex in the SHC context. Let me elaborate & examine each taboo. All of them are highly emotive topics.
In Religion & politics, V all hv a choice, it can either play a large part in our lives or non at all; it is not an essential in that without it , V completely loose our well being. Without Politics & religion V can still function & still can live a completely happy life. So these are 2 taboos that V can keep strictly as it was.
Lets examine SEX in the context of SHC & as a very important essential in our lives & for our well being. Sex is not the be all of a fulfilling life, but one cannot deny it’s important role for a fulfilling life & for our well being.
It is such an important factor in the well being of their Japanese silverhair citizen’s life that it was reported widely many months ago that the japanese government even went to the extent of funding the production of pornography for viewing by their Silverhair citizens. And the casts are Japanese Silverhair citizens themselves!.
There were some articles in recent times in our own Straits Times about British Scientist researching & reporting that one can have a fulfilling sex life well into their 80+ aided or otherwise, & urging their fellow British citizens to do so for their overall wellbeing.
Sigmund Freud, the famous psychologist, summaries all human activities thus in the 2 following points. 1) SEX 2) The desire to dominate others. In his research, whatever a human being does, it leads to & are all in relations to the above mentioned 2 points highlighted.
The few points I mentioned above have illustrated how encompassing the role of sex is, in a human being’s life. To suggest a focal point & space where human beings come to write & share their thoughts & is to be completely clinically sanitized will not cut it. Not even so for those of us who are in our 2nd half century.
Using sex as a pretext & projecting ourselves as sitting on moral high ground will also not cut it. SHCians are no fools to not see through these self-conceitedness & cunnings.
I’m not suggesting the making of pornography or an outright explicit discussion about sex in our forum, but I think some reference or oblique reference to the topic in certain specific activity like what Terence has suggested with a suggestive playful tittle which shud not be construed as been done in a ‘distasteful’ manner. Or Tian Soo’s IT thread, where all the exchange of chitchats are properly locked & contained within that thread.
Terence, this well intentioned gentleman just wishes to spice things up a little for all of us, and in the very least V can report ”at heaven” that it was interesting & spicy right to the very end. So who are V to begin to have the audacity to judge others so lightly! I know there are many well intentioned members who email Terence privately when they don’t see eye to eye with him. They hv basic respect for others enough to never put others down or on a spot right in an open forum. And these are very active members. I’m not equating sex to gaming, while gaming is seen to be generally undesirable, it is just that sex is something humans do while preferring not to talk very much about. And it doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. Without questioning the old ways, how then can human civilisation progress & reach out to new frontiers?. With the global mega trend of aging populatons, many countries are taking steps & experimenting with ways to give their silverhairs a more engaging & fulfilling life. In Singapore, it’s no different.
So let’s have an openmind, and as they say ”an open mind is like an open parachute, it allows us to land safely & surely”.

Guess what? I love Freud. Did some of his tests and am still psycho-analyzing what the fook is wrong with me.
I guess the trouble with this event is the word “Porn” which immediately disgust, offend some people and they are not wrong.
By the same token, I personally do not find the word per se offensive. If this event is named ‘Orgy Nite’, would I be offended? Again, No. Why? Simply because it’s just a name.
Which comes to the crunch. Does Terence really ‘want’ sex to happen amongst members on that nite? Don’t think so but if that’s what he has in mind, he is so totally fooked.
Sometimes wordings or captions from a marketing point of view is to excite, entice, seduce – really like a chewing gum commercial over here a few months ago which talks about climax, shiokness (by chewing gum?). Was a successful campaign to break into the market and even a non-gummer like myself, it grabbed my attention.
In this case, I must say Terence should not have used the word ‘hum sup’ in one of his comments which further ‘degrade’ the word Porn.
Yes, Henry, I vaguely remember watching a programme about the Japanese silverhairs and the subsequent porn production funded by the government. I thought ‘Cool!’.
If this event were to take place, think of it as a hot party and nothing more. Which brings me back to TS’s great beach party whereby he wrote things like ‘dress code – as little as possible’ and showing body parts that are still presentable and we all took it in stride; not offended, not thinking porn, just a gathering and have fun.
