  1. We have received the following suggestions for a place.

    1. Temasek Club, KTV room, available 2pm to midnight, 2o pax.
    2. Orchid country club (Aranda lounge).
    3. Community centres.

If you have a suggestion for a place, please share with us.

Participating in the organising will be Clara Chay, Linda Chionh, Catherine Yip.

  2. I would like to participate in the Karaoka singing (solo)for either mandarin or hockien song.

I am the 1st person to register and hope to see more SHC members come forward to perform your talent.

  3. Though i am in the organising committee list.I would like to participate in the talent-time if it is ok. Will be singing (solo) english song.
We need the SHC members participation and support to make this event a successful one. Therefore, calling all SHC members, lets make your move and step forward by submitting your name asap. See u then and cheers!. Thks.

  4. I’m new to Karoake but interested to sing, sometimes out of tune. Can sing for fun but not for competition. Can I sing and those experts can guide, please don’t laugh at me but just need encouragement.

  5. I am interested to participate just to join in the fun.
I am a member of Orchid and Serangoon Gardens. Let me know if you need to look at this places.
    Tks
    Molly

  6. Please include me. I would like to sing a Mandarin or Cantonese song. I’m rather new to Karoake and am trying out my guts. Do let me know if you need help in the preparations.

  7. This is the first SilverHairs Idol competition…so I must be there! Count me in, not for the singing as I am tone deaf, but to cheer everyone on…

    Sing for joy…

  8. Hi Terence & All SHC Participants,

I will be the 28th. participants in this coming Talent Quest Contest by singing a Hokkien Auspicious Song.
Hope to catch up with the practise.
    Cheers.
    Patrick Yeo

  9. Hi Terence,
    Thanks for registering for me.
I found my username and password. Sorry for the trouble. I am very much in favour of singing and dancing. I like songs from WestLife, Tom Jones and others.
    Regards
    jameschan

  10. With the last head count to be filled up soon, I think we should still consider allowing more members to come in but on one condition, they must do a forfeit since the admission had been set at 30 persons. They must agree to do a performance (some kind like dancing, singing, acting, playing musicial instrument, etc) to be admitted. Would you guys who have already registered agree? I believe you do and it will be fun.

  11. Exactly 30 if my name doesnt appear twice. Methink can allow the number to stretch to 40, even 50, so long as there’s standing space, making it probably the most successful event.

  12. Terence & the organiser
I never expect the respond is so good. I saw members asking for cha cha partner, I can be her partner. But the dance floor must be provided, especially when karaoke singing with Cha Cha, obit cha cha, rock & roll music, all can join in the dancing which will be more fun.

  13. Hi all SHC members, while you are practicing for the talentime, here is another opportunity to win big bucks ? Another keen and need some musical support ,etc can sms me , Ronald 91519301. Cheers

WANNABE singers – and everyone else – here is your chance to be in the limelight.

Anyone can send video clips of their singing performances, in any language, to 75557 to take part in the MMSing Talent Contest.

The videos will appear on Stomp, The Straits Times online media portal at http://www.stomp.com.sg. Viewers can watch the clips, comment on them and vote for their favourites.

The grand prize – $10,000 for the singer with the highest number of votes.

The clips should be filmed with a cellphone, and should not be longer than one minute.

‘MMSing is Stomp’s latest effort to engage Singaporeans in a fun way,’ said Stomp executive content producer Chew V Ming.

Those who are unsure of how to send an MMS or film a video with a cellphone can get help at mmsing.stomp.com.sg

Celebrities such as Joe Augustin and Jaymee Ong, as well as Stomp’s Tech Chick, will dish out tips with a how-to guide and sample clips.

Contestants can also give their entries a professional touch by recording them at Stomp’s participating partner, KBox.

Some eager crooners have already sent in entries.

Secondary school students Syltra Lee and Emmanuel Jean Somporn, both 15, were the first two MMSing contestants.

They submitted a solo performance each, as well as a duet, in which they sang songs by American pop stars Justin Timberlake and Carrie Underwood.

‘I think it’s pretty cool. The contest gives a lot of exposure to singing talent, and anyone who likes music can take part,’ said Emmanuel.

The closing date for entries is Dec 31, and voting ends on Jan 31.

  14. From the description, it seems to me that the stomp talent contest is for kiddos, with two 15-year old teenagers signing up as their first contestants.

I cant wait for our very own SHC talentime where the prize is even better than $10k talent contest offers bcos the SHC grandprize is priceless.

  15. Hi All

  16. Hi All SHC Talent Time Contestants,

    patrickyeo_grassroot@inbox.com

I’ll assist as MC for the evening.

    Cya.

  17. Hi there

Extra Urgent Attention needed. The participation list was last updated a few days ago. I believe it may have already hit 50 now and the number is still coming.

    Cheers, yew kwong

  18. It shd be fun to hv so many turning up altho it will be a lot harder on Terence & his crew but I believe all of us will make do with whatever space we have for the nite, even if it means standing thru…….anyhow, there’ll be enough reasons for us to stand in ovation as we are entertained by what would have been the maestros of yesteryears.

  19. – Goh Pheng Sok repeated in No. 37 & 51
    – Winnie Lim also repeated in No. 42 & 50
    – Is Liau Ah Kim the same as Linda Liau in No. 36 & 46?

Others, please check whether your name have been repeated especially those who uses different name to sign up.

    Lily

  20. Please include me for dinner.
I will be there on duty and to support the participants.
Will have my digicam ready to take a snapshot of each one as you arrive at the registration desk so put on your widest, sweetest or cheekiest smile … cos you’re on candid camera.

  21. Hi Terence

Please count me in for the buffet dinner.

Do karaoke singing have a TV screen to watch the wording or have to memorize the wording. I think we need to know before submit the song title.

  22. Without a doubt, the run-up to the show of the year promises to be exciting, shiok & a mayhem of the good fun type.

Understand from the grapevine that joe chant-&-run of the junglebirds fame will thunder thru the nite. And with mad-dew coming with the man-drinks, I am sure the attendance list will keep growing………no worry, we’re just a 10 minute walk to the padang which can take enough for a national day review.

  23. I thought only those who are not eating need to inform our dear organisers…since some of us are indicating that we are having dinner, I thought I better make it clear too…otherwise I could go hungry and thirsty the whole night and disrupt the event with my growling tummy…

    enJoy

  24. Yes, Joy, I assume those who are not having dinner would let us know.

I plan to send out an update next week, so we can firm the numbers of diners and non-diners.

    Your dinner is confirmed.

  25. Hi Annie,

I am aware there are 2 or 3 TV screens, good enough for the room we are using.

As for songs, I also know there are many many, but dont know how many. Come earlier, at 4pm, and you can have a go.

    Terence Seah

  26. Diners, non-diners, singers non-singers, dancers, non-dancers, yes, Terence, it gonna help if a list showing what each will be doing (so that corrections can be made prior to booking with the hotel)> Talking abt hotel, it cant be complete without being a guest so maybe i shd book a room and be the first to turn up at 4 pm sharp the next day ? Me by nature very the kiasu hor…….

  27. To facilitate confirmation with the hotel, a known headcount of diners would be a great help to the organizing committee.
So, I believe, we should let Terence know for sure if “you” are coming for the buffet dinner.

I am registered #16, count me in for the buffet dinner. Thanks.

  28. Hi Terence,
Managed to get my friend Lisa Ong to register for membership. Both Lisa and I hope its not too late to register for this talentime do.
    Dinner and non-participants attendance only.
Let me know if we are included. Let me know how payment is to be made.
    Thank you and regards…………….Jie

  29. Due to physical constraints, reluctantly, the door has to close and I can empathise with the organisers’ sadness to do so. Reckon, the door isnt shut bcos there is another opportunity to get together again in bigger numbers, come year end. So this time sign up early lor.

With 60 names, it’s already a handful to deal with so perhaps, a revamped list showing what each comer will do, will eat, will clap be put up for members’ final confirmation.

  30. As the saying goes “early bird catches the worm”. Its worth to make your booking early.

The administration of events looks simple but does require time to get things planned and organised to pre-empt a chaotic situation.

I applaud the efforts of the organisers and also not forgetting those members who volunteer to help out to make this event a success.

  31. We are sorry. The following persons have registered after the closing date, and so sorry, we cannot accommodate.

    Jennifer Cheok
    Eyvonne Chew
    Sarah Zahriah A Kassim
    Bernardo P
    Jimmy Liaw
    Jennifer Liaw
    Catherine Yip
    Alice Yeo
    William Lam
    Lisa Ong
    Jie Lim Hong
    Jannie Tan
    Jeffrey Siah
    Connie Song
    Mertina
    Christina Lee
    Sompho

  32. WOW Terence, this gathering will definitely be a great success with full-house participation. Love to join and be an audience at the Talent-time event, but regret I am a bit too late!

Anyway, thumbs up for you and your hard-working committee in making this event to become a reality. May be you can consider to make this event an annual one.

    Regards.

  33. For those who made it b4 the close, do pls pls come and dont do a houdini act at the 11th hour as the organisers hv placed so much trust that no payment is required till the day itself (in fact, if tickets were sold, they cd easily be re-sold @ 10x its price in the black, or rather grey, market).

The greatest show on earth beckons………more funky & hilarious that the moscow circus show, with so many oldies sharing their goodies, gyrating their bodies, even the moody aunties will go away happy as we out-do the mischievious monkey.

Strictly a R(A)45 adult show. Regret PG wont help so children shd be sent to macdonald for the nite.

  34. Hi everyone,

I am new to your Silverhairsclub. Noted that your club is pretty active in organising all kinds of interesting events to keep us going.

I will keep tab on your message board for the next gathering and will attend one of your events to meet all you energetic guys & gals!

    Cheers!
    Sue

  35. Per comment #63, quoted “No: 33 & 48 is the same person. Kindly delete no:33”, we can take in one more member.

Based on comment #70, Eyvonne Chew shd be next on the list

  36. “onlysue Says: I am new to your Silverhairsclub.
I will keep tab on your message board for the next gathering and will attend one of your events to meet all you energetic guys & gals!”

Sue, pls come n join us in nearest “next gathering” on Sat, 18 Nov 06 at East Coast Park in our Cycling activity.

  37. Hi Eliza,

Am very sorry that the Talent-Time is closed, as the venue cannot take any more. Again, very sorry.

Also, we do not have Nina’s name as a SHC member.

    Terence Seah

  38. Josephine Yap, Mitchelle Choong, Gary Loke, Bernardo P, Alice Liang, Linda Tan and Norman Koh have not confirmed attendance, performance and dinner.

Please confirmed before Mon 20 Nov 0900 hrs. We will allocate the seats out after this time. Appreciate your understanding.

We have sent this request to your email.

    Terence Seah

  39. #34 and #35 Richard and Shirley are unable to come. The seats are allocated to Jimmy Liaw and Jennifer Liaw.

Please confirm dinner attendance and performance type.

  40. I suppose by not stating it, I am confirmed for dinner as well? If that’s not the case then kindly accept my confirmation heretofore.

As there may still be some late withdrawals (which can cause headache to the organisers so pls refrain fr doing so hor)perhaps those who are on the “fringe” shd keep a look-out till the talontime day as their names may be included to replace withdrawals.

  41. Catherine Yip replaces Norman Koh,who cannot attend. Linda Tan cannot come, replaced by Alice Yeo.
As we have no confirmation from Bernard P and Alice Liang, the seats will be replaced by William Lam and another peron (waiting for confirmation).

  42. We are almost done.
Got to apologise to Lisa Ong, Jie Lim Hong, Jannie Tan, Jeffrey Siah, Connie Song, Mertina May, Christina Lee, Mr&Mrs Sompho and Mr&Mrs Feh Tuck Leong, Kathy Dng, Christie Cheefor not being able to accommodate attendance.

  43. For those who have not been the Oxford Hotel cafe. This is a rectangle, with a Karaoke set, and 2 mics at one corner. Two TV monitors, and 2 speakers.

1/4 of room is a dance floor, and half allocated to small square tables with 4 chairs each. Buffet table near one wall. Outside the cafe are 4 square tables with chairs.

There is enough seating space for 65 people.

When you come, please write your name on a label sticker, on the right side pocket. Not so nice, but I think this is the best way for other SilverHairs to know you.

Please assist the organisers. See Laura Wee for payment, 15 for dinners and 5 for non-dinners.

Please see Oi Cheng to have your photos taken, any which way you like. We would put your name against the photo.

    See you soon.

    Terence Seah

  44. One good suggestion for all members attending this event. Please bring along exact change so that fee collection can be easy and we dont need to queue round the building for turns to pay.

  45. Phew, finally, Terence & gang can heave a sigh of relief…or can they, really? Until those who say they will go show up, and no whine over “i only wanted to wine, not dine” met with an exasperated reply “ok, go find a kite to fly”, we can only hope that things will turn out as promising as the responses hv been so far. Fellow members, do pls check what you wish to do which appears next to your name in the list.

    Ok, start counting down…………..19999999….

  46. Ha ha…counting down from one less than 20 million…if one number takes 5 seconds to articulate since most of the numbers are quite a mouthful, it will take 231 days of non-stop counting, 24 hours a day or 86,400 seconds a day, to count to zero…so by then, it will be around July next year Tim? Ha ha…

    Joyfully counting…

  47. Terence, you are sure you want to leave out Mr and Mrs. Sompho…. our guests from Thailand? Can’t they be the exception, since they are coming down for this purpose? I am actually looking forward to seeing them again.

  48. Haha, it’s a joy reading Joy and she really went calculating to arrive at 231 days to complete counting all the 2m less 1…….so cute.

Yes, I am with Ann in hoping to make leeway to accommodate our Thai guests. If need be, I can stand thru’ the nite and quite sure at least another butty will do likewise so 2 seats will be made available for them.

    tim

  49. Hi Guys

I see Terence’s point in leaving out Mr & Mrs Sompho. We have to be fair to our other members who did not make it, assuming you are also in their shoes.

We can still meet them and entertain them into other joyful way. Says, we can have lunch or perhaps dinner with them and chat the whole night long.

By registering another 2 names on the list of attendees, we are trying to tell our members that they are unimportant and even the numbers have been filled, we still accord preferencial treatment.

  50. Ooops, I hv unwittingly put Terence in a quandary.

On 1 hand, bcos they’re “overseas guests” perhaps, members in the front of queue might not mind letting them attend & watch what’s touted to be the razzmatazz of the year, and probably bring home the idea to start something similar so that in future, we can hv some kind of affiliation with them which augurs well for SHC.

Yew Kong too has a valid point. Since it appeals to members’ understanding, even magnanimity, one unhappy member can upset what the gang has taken pain to do, and hv done so well thus far.

    Hehe, life is never easy…………..

  51. Hi All Talent Time participating SHC members,

Please take note that this saturday is our Talent Time Contest.

For those who wish to practise their vocal cord, please come at 4 pm on this coming saturday. Remember to bring along your disk though there are pre programmed songs in the Karaoke sytem – there is a possibility that your song tittle is unavailable.

I personally tested the system and I have requested it to be tuned on the very day for a more solid sound effect.

We should take this coming saturday not as a competition but rather an opportunity to understand one another better in term of our talents and interests. And a time to be free from STRESS and WORK PRESSURES.

Tis a time for fun and enjoyment and wishing all a Merry Christmas.

    Regards

    Patrick Yeo
    Event Organiser

  52. So, Jannie Tan is confirmed to attend.

With this name, all applications are now closed. All names in the above list have confirmed. With the confirmation in the list, Diners pay %15 and non-diners pay $5.

Sorry, we cannot accept last minute cancellations as diners are confirmed with the hotel and payable.

    Terence Seah

  53. Hahaha, diners will have a problem paying what is asked for……..but of cos it has to be $, SGD, that is. not %. Cant wait for the day when I get to hear a kokkien song sung…………..

    tim

  54. Hahaha, Yew Kwong, well said ………sage of sages, ginger of gingers………how can spore not discover a bunch of funkies like us when she boasts of a discovery centre, satellites & cctvs all over………..?

  55. Wow! We have 100 comments for this event. And I just have to add one more.

Let me hazard a guess. A recorder performance is (1) a performance by a (vinyl) record, not a CD or MP3 (2) a performance that you have recorded before hand and just play it back (3) a record-breaking performance…

Oh well, we will find out soon enough. Ha ha..just playing the fool. A recorder is a musical instrument with holes on it for the fingers and one at the end where you blow.

I am dying to hear the itsy bitsy song (Terence, you’re going to be in costume as well?) and the kokkien song.

    Joy

  56. The SilverHairsClub Talent-Time is organised by members only. In case, you find anything not well planned, we hope to have your patience and understanding.

Our objective is for SilverHairs to find friends among other SilverHairs. Hope you enjoy the fun and company of the group.

    Have a great evening.

    Terence Seah

  57. Terence, “talent-time” is just the name of an activity – the icing is in the opportunity for oldies-but-goodies to meet up. SHC has extended our shelf-lives and altho it cant make us look young, surely, it can make us feel young, think young and do young. For that, kudos to you.

  58. Tks everyone for explanations on the ‘recorder’. Must admit my ignorance in this area although many many years ago, I used to play the ‘accordion’ but too rusty to ‘perform’ at this coming event! ha.

  59. Dear friends,
We did have a wonderful, enjoyable and memorable SHC talent-time nite. A toast and a thank you to our dear terence, committee members, participants and friends. It was through your selfless contributions, efforts, time sacrifice, participation that we are able to make this a successful event. I am looking forward to the fellowship again.
    BEST WISHES *
