This coming Friday is 111111

In our lifetime, this date is going to be very significant to us.

It’s 111111.  What will you be doing?  Where will you be?  Who
will you be with?  If it is not not too confidential, and you can tell us,
share with all of us.  We will remember you in the next 111111.

  1. Maybe I should start first.

This Friday 111111 will be very special to me. Because, I am not sure what I will be doing. A little lost, I have to admit. I just know I should do something.

Sam, I am thinking of buying 4D or 6D. Please help with giving me some lucking numbers.

On this day, I shall dream of living through 70. Shall we do something on this day or night? I am thinking of going to the East Coast and scream my brains out.

That’s it for me. How about you guys and gals? A few lines from you will surely bring out the vibrance in each and everyone of us.

  2. Hi All,

The number ‘one’ sound in English is almost the same as ‘wan’ in Cantonese carrying 2 meanings: 1)find/search 2)profit. Cantonese businessmen used to ask one another like “Kum (This) nin (year) lei (you) wan (profitted) tho mo? (or not?)” So “111111” is a good omen to all businessmen, particularly Chinese businessmen in the Asian Pacific Region symbolic of “profit, profit, profit, profit, profit, profit.”

‘126’ in English can be interpreted in Cantonese both humorously and idiomatically as “wan (found) tho (already) sek(food)” equivalent to ‘being able to make a living.’

Please verify what I have written with other elderly Cantonese in SHC.

    Best rgds,

    Terence Tang

  3. Yes. On this special day why not stretch our hands and bring someone back? Make this day all foes become friends again. The ending day of 111111 will definitely brings a big smile when we sleep. ????????????

Daniel Chan has quoted this songs and isn’t it very true? particularly the first phrase of the song.

    ???,?????,
    ???,?????.
    ??????, ????.
    ??????, ??????

    ???,??????
    ????????
    ??????, ??????
    ??????, ?????.

My translation – sorry to have twisted slightly to suit the rhyme

True or false, who can say right or not?
Angst and pain, who can tell who is at fault?
Foes and friends bicker, you and I jitter.

Where is the line between hatred and love?
Forever the answer will remain a blur.

    Look around us.
Success or failure is but a blink.
Strong or feeble all will surely sink.

Forget it whether you have lost or won.
Never mind that hatred and love are frowned upon.
Just remember, for old time sake, together we sing another song.

  5. The modern world has been using the calendar since the day of Christ for more than two thousand years. Once in many years, quirks of dates will appear. Whether the dates have any significance depends on one’s perceptions and beliefs.

However, there were occasions when certain people seized the oppotunities to make millions. Everyone has heard the millennium bug. The word “bug” is used by software engineers to describe the malfunctioning of the computer programmes.

At the time of the crisis when the year was approaching the year 2000, the whole world was alerted to this impending catastrophe. This would come about because the programmer had provided only two positions for the year instead of four. So on the first day of year 2000, the year became 00. This would caused many computers around the world to hang up causing widespread chaos. Many computerised systems would crash and become inoperable.

It was in fact a bug which could be easily fixed by some changes to the software. But the software companies blew it up causing some panics across the globe. Big companies like the ones running the airlines paid millions to avoid the crash.

This is to illustrate the fact that when there is a crisis some people will cash on it.

  6. I received a wedding invitation card with 11.11.11
    printed boldly on it.

I look forward to attending this wedding & sharing the joy of the happy couple & their families on 11.11.11.

I wonder whether there’ll be another wedding invitation on 12.12.12 next year.

    Priscilla :)

  9. June #3

Thank You June. I am glad you like the song.
For the past 30 years, this song has helped me to forgive and forget. Nothing is absolute and nothing is permanent.

    In Cantonese 1111 also means ?? ??

???????…every day is a tough day but every day will pass.

    CHEERS ALL !!!

  10. a) 11.11.11 – a birthday girl shared her ‘red eggs’ with me. Have not eaten a red birthday egg for ages. I didnt realise it was her 14th birthday when I picked up a carton of stuffed toys (old and new) from her at the void deck of her block.

    b) 11.11.11 – sent the toys and some used books to son’s school for the student’s learning journey in Cambodia (end Nov trip).

    b) 11.11.11 – hubby bought 2 bottles of lightly scented men fragrances (1 for himself and another for our elder child)

    c) A friend forwarded me an sms noting that 2011 is a special year. Just add anyone’s age to the last 2 digits of the year of birth and it will give you a sum of 11 or 111.

    Eg, 50 yrs old + year of birth _ _ 61 = 111
    2 yrs old + year of birth _ _ 09 = 11
    1 yr old + year of birth _ _ 10 = 11

    d) Japan’s massive earthquake and destructive tsunami ocurred on 11 March 2011.

Number 11 didn’t seem to be a favourable number. It seems to spell disaster than luck. The twin towers of New York looked like the number 11 from a distance. They were brought down on 11 September 2001.

The current presidential elections in Taiwan showed that the marginal difference in percentage votes between the top 2 competing candidates is 1.1% etc.

11.11.11 – will never pass our way again!

I guess when hitting the enter key just 4 mins before the end of 11.11.11 you probably gave a silent sigh but that night am sure that you are wearing a big smile while sleeping. ????????????

Our grandparents crossed 11.11.11 in the last century of year 1911, we
meet 11.11.11 in this century and our grandchildren will meet 11.11.11 again in the next century at year 2111. Hope at that time 11 will bring good luck than disasters. ????????????????????

  12. Today is 2011 2011, which means 20 Nov 2011. Still got time to send a sms, email, sing a song or call your friends, make a wish, do something you want to memorise this day before the day ends.

I wish all of you good health, good friends always and Singapore can overcome all difficulties in year 2012.

  13. Yesterday I was supposed to meet up with some SHC ladies & gentlemen for social dance at Kim Seng CC/Havelock Road in the afternoon from 3-6pm after my noon nap. As I was about to leave the house, my angry wife asked to “wake up” to the reality that I had to attend my niece’s – her sister’s daughter – wedding dinner at Vivo City on 20.11.2011. Oh dear, I nearly missed it and might be severely scolded my relatives.

The evening before on the 19th I had waltzed, disco-rocked, cha-chaed and rock-n-rolled with the some SHC ladies at another location from 7.30 – 10.30pm. My wife is not the jealous type and I don’t interfere with her majong hobby. So hobbywise we go our separate ways happily.

Although I may not be often seen at official SHC functions, I am still well connected/bonded with SHC people informally. Of course I would try to pop up at official SHC events from time to time.

SHC has been doing a marvellous job of building bridges to forge friendships amongst otherwise totally unknown individuals in all spheres of professions and careers. Special mention should go to our founder Terence Seah and his cohorts like Chris Chan etc., etc.

    Thks & best regards,

    Terry
