An opportunity for SilverHairs to meet one another on Tues, 6 Dec 2011 at Hans, while the mood is fresh, lively and festive

Hi everybody,

It’s been a long time since we last met at Hans Cafe @ Upper Pickering Street.  Many of us have not met one another while for some, it’s like donkey years.  I like it when you meet new friends.  I also like it when you catch up with old ones.

SilverHairs are very chatty.  Sometimes, they can even bring down the roof of Hans Cafe.  Well, we have many stories to catch up, new plans for next year.  Also, a good time to liaise plans for travel.  Got some old books to give away.  Or some relationships to patch up.  Some goodies to give away.  So, find out who is coming; then come.  If your friends are not coming, it might be too lonely of you to come alone.  But, if your friends are coming, come loudly.  No friends, say something here; and you will have a new friend in no time.

So, here’s the details of this event.

  • Date:  Tue 6 Dec 2011.
  • Time:  4pm to 8.30pm  (Even if you are late after work, also can register to come).
  • Charge:  Free.  If you need a drink or some dinner, you can get it at the Hans Counter.  I think they charge. Dont bring food or drinks, or Hans will skin us alive.)
  • Dress:  Any office wear; or anything.
  • Only registered SilverHairsClub members are allowed to participate in this event.

If you are new or has never come to a SilveHairsClub activity, please introduce yourself here.  Dont be shy. But if you are not shy, tell us also about yourself, the louder the better.  I like to suggest you wear RED, then we know you are new.  SilveHairsClub has one of the most varied name tags.  Please make your own name tag.  Anything you like can be on it; except no advertising of companies.  Just first and last name.

But, if you are not new, and has come to our activities a few times, please wear GREEN or BLUE tops.  Bring your name tag, or make one yourself.  Make sure your name is big, clear and friendly.  Or we would just give you a sticky label to put on your dress or shirt.

What do you do when you come?  First, do not sit down.  Secondly, say "Hi, My name is Mitchelle Yip.  May I know your name?".

Like with all events, you need to register to come.  Please be the first 80 members to register.  Non SHC members are not allowed please.

I look forward to seeing big wide smiling faces.

  1. Hi Fellow friends on the Golden Triangle trip,

Please come to this gathering for a briefing at 6.30pm. This will be the first and last, before our trip to the Golden Triangle, north of Chiangmai. If you cannot make it, well, see you on the 5th Jan morning at 7pm in Chiangmai. Be good and have fun.

  2. Hi Dan,

Yes, Asia Square is another nice area. I have not had the chance to establish contact with the management. We should try it some time next year, after doing so.

  3. Hi Terence

I shall be there early… chance to meet many new and old SHC members and catch up with CM January group.

Should I also use this meeting to meet with the CM February group? It would be our first meeting before our trip but definitely not the last.

    Kenneth

  4. Hi Yatsing

Please put me down as a tentative. Need to check a couple of things before I can go back.

If I do, will probably go straight from the airport although I have no idea where this cafe is.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi Terence
My wife Lilian and I will be there at about 6pm. Yes it’s a long time since we last met at Han’s Cafe. Looking forward to the gathering.

  6. If I have not seen or met you before, I hope you will turn up for this gathering at Hans@Upper Pickering Street. You can bet I have the memory of a big bird. This means if I see you once, I will remember you for the next few years.

Large gatherings are for you to come and meet new friends. And, if there is someone you have not met for many moons, come. This is how SilverHairsClub works.

So, if you can come, just register here and say a bit about yourself. I look forward to seeing all my good old friends and all the new birds too.

  7. Good morning to Charles and Geraldine

Can’t help but notice that Terence has somehow misled you to think that Yatsing is EO for this event or did you mean to register for Yatsing’s “tang-yuen” event?

    Have a nice day everyone.

  8. Hi Oi Cheng

How pleasant to hear from you!!

Guess what? I re-read this thread and realized, whoopsie, Yat Sing is not the EO! Kekekekeeee. Thanks for pointing out.

Trust the scheming up-to-no-good EO for THIS gathering to stay mum about the error. Gosh.

    Take care,

  9. Hi Terence

Please register Dolly, Sam and me but I will arrive late. Will get the out come of the meeting for Golden Triangle Trip from others.

    Thanks

  10. Hi Terence,

We are coming for the Monthly Gathering around 7pm. Do register us:~ myself, Jeff Lim, Martin Lee, Fred Heng, Amy Ko, Marg Tian & Lydia Chin.

    Thanks!

  11. Hi Sue #19,

You must be in close touch with a number of SHC friends; that’s why you can register them together. Keep this up.

And to all members, do make it an effort to come for this event. This is the only way to help yourself, if you are shy and not sure how to move around the Club.

    Terence Seah

  12. Again, this call is for members who are new and shy. SHC is a platform for you to meet new and more friends. Make that effort to come to the monthly gathering or just about any event organised by members for members.

Not much, we can do if you prefer to stay at work or at home. Please make the first step.

    Terence Seah

  13. Hi Terence,

Just got a call from Stephen Low to register his attendance on his behalf. Do include him.

As regards to name list #12, it should read as Amy Ko.

    Cheers!

  14. Hi Geraldine #9

You are going to Hans straight from the airport! Great stamina! ??! About what time will u be arriving at Hans? (i.e. if your homecoming is confirmed). :)

    cheers,

  15. Hi..I am Winston Yang. I just joined your club (registered) last month. Looking for activities to participate in. This meeting should be a good start. Do you book the entire HAN’S cafe? Otherwise how do I know who are our member-friends? Will be there around 5.30 pm, in a white shirt with tie (after work). Thanks.

  16. Hi Terence,

Do include Thomas Loh who has requested me to register him on his behalf..

Hi Henry #31 ~ feel free to drop by Han’s Cafe @ 4+ and you’ll be able to meet a group of SHC members chatting at an extreme corner. We will meet at the Round Table Meeting tomorrow evening (2/12).. will enlighten you more as regards to SHC activities.

Hi Winston #32 ~ a group of SHC members will usually be seated at an extreme corner in Han’s Cafe on 6/12, am sure you can easily be spotted by one of us.

    Cheers!

  17. Hi everybody,

For those who have registered for this monthly gathering, I may not have replied; but your names have been registered. See you on the 6 Dec.

    Terence Seah

  18. Hi Terence

Me coming to the gathering too.

Anyone knows how to play a card game called Skip Bo? Got me a pack of cards from my host in USA and would like to find some people who knows this game.

Else if a anyone is keen to learn how to play I will bring the cards with me and we can have a short session at Hans

    Sockie

  19. Excellent, for tomorrow, I look forward to meeting evereybody at Hans Cafe, Upper Pickering Street. A corner will be allocated to the SilverHairsClub.

Feel free to order your coffee and whatever you want to eat at the Hans counter. See you.

If you have not registered, please do so, It’s a great opportunity to meet old members like Norlinda, Boonliang, Caroline, Richard, Susan and Kenneth.

If you are new, try wearing RED, so we we will not miss you. And, for old members, catch up with other older ones too.

And , dont forget to bring your name tag. Do make one, size of a business card with your first and last name on it. Put it into a name card holder, so that you can clip it on your dress/shirt. Any style will do. Come anytime from 4pm to 8.30 pm. Any dresscode.

  20. Hi Terence,

    she is coming.
    Thks, CHEERS, see you all,
    Lilian

  21. Hi Terence,

I was approached by 2 members to register on their behalf due to password inaccessibility…Please include Irene Cheah and Victor Khor, who will be coming to join us tomorrow evening.

    Cheers!!

  22. Hi RichardW #56,

Well done. I look forward your coming tomorrow to help me with the registration. I will print the list and hand it tomorrow. Need your help to tick the names of all registered participants.

Hi May, I have put you as wearing RED, so we all know you are new. I hope RED will be our colour for new members, at our monthly gatherings.

Let’s see how many will register before midnight tonight.

    Terence Seah

  23. Hi Terence,
Please register me. I am ‘old’ but will be attending my first monthly meeting. Can help with registration (easy way to get to know others!)
    Cheers – Jane

  24. Hi JaneC #59,

Great, and you are right; raising the right hand and offering assistance to the EO is one of the best way to meet other members. Let me know how many members you know, by the end of the event.

Do ask another person to help you; as you will be busy writing the first and last names on a sticker for those who have not made their name tag. I will supply the stickers, marker pen and name list.

Hi Peggy #60, you are right; you are not new. So, no need to wear RED. I have to crack my head to remember you; but from the forum, you sound like a bright spark plug. see you tomorrow.

    Terence Seah

  25. It’s not always that I take the role of EO for the monthly gathering. But, once in a while, I like this role because it gives me the opportunity to test out how to get more SilverHairs to meet other SilverHairs.

We have always been able to draw more SilverHairs to join SHC. But, very often the EOs get hammered because new members may have been left out sitting alone at a table, and nobody chatting with him or her. This has always been a difficult item, as you will see from the event tomorrow night. Different members arrive at different times. The place is just too big for doing introduction. It takes a lot of time. Well, many methods have been tested. So tomorrow, I intend to test out another method.

Well, we are going to distribute a small piece of paper to everyone. You are to write your name and email address on this piece of paper after the registration process. At any time, during the gathering, please feel free to give this paper to someone you have met; preferably someone with the same interests or hobbies. The other person should not give you his/her paper. BTW, can give to anyone, no rules.

JaneC, I shall give this role to you too. You identify someone to help you. OK?

    Have fun.
