Next year 2012, all SHC monthly gatherings will be scheduled

The SilverHairsClub monthly gathering is an important event and has become a feature of SHC.  As we have no physical club location, we make use of available venues in Singapore that meets our needs. This is a monthly event; and we hope that all members will make effort to attend this event, even though we may have little groups here and there.  It should meet the key objective of providing a platform for new and old members to meet up with one another, at a big venue.

We have not been very organised but I have noted suggestions from members to pre-schedule the monthly gatherings early.  So for 2012, we will pre-schedule the gatherings.  The biggest hurdle in not doing so, is the difficulty of finding last-minute Event Organisers EOs.

Generally, a monthly gathering should be conveniently located on the map; close to MRT stations.  Food should not be a priority; and members should be able to order food individually off the counter.  For reasons of I dont like hot food, the food is too oily, I have my dinner already, I just want a drink and the food price is too expensive, the location should be flexible to meet this requirement.  Food should not be a priority.  The EO is the only one who can make the decision re the venue and the date.  This will be done in consultation with the imcumbent Club Manager.

Somehow, I get the feeling that 90% of our active members are still working, so many can come after work; but we must not miss out those who have retired or have flexi-working hours.  Still, there are others that stay in Jurong, Woodlands, Toa Payoh, Hougang and Changi.  And, more there are others, who still have grand children to look after, and may only be available on weekends.  Many, many, many factors.  But, let’s try.  So, the venue must be able to cater to changes in numbers (pax) too.

Other requirements for EO events are the personalised name tags, RED for new members and pre-registration of attendance.

I am glad we are likely to have a good start to this arrangement for 2012.  And, I am pleased also that a number of members, including new ones, have kindly and openly accepted being the EOs for the monthly gatherings in 2012.  You only need to do one EO activity for the whole of your membership.  I hope more members will do their share to contribute this task.  So, here goes.

  • Jan – Lily Ho
  • Feb – Janie Leong
  • Mar – Andrey Wong
  • Apr – Peter Lim
  • May – Dan Huang
  • Jun – Richard Wong
  • Jul –  Peri Liew
  • Aug – Victor Khor
  • Sep – Henry Foo
  • Oct – May Woo
  • Nov – Caroline Gee
  • Dec – Jane Tan

So for all EOs, please starting writing a few Posts, so that you are familiar with communicating with other members.  As an EO, this event is the best opportunity to know other members and for other members to know you.  Thank you very much; and I shall be in touch with you soon.

  1. Hi Terence,

This is a good idea for the new year 2012. I wish to suggest here that those responsible for the various months may indicate here the likely venue.

I have in mind the Asia Square food lobby and will approaoh the management for permission.

This list of core member mentioned here do represent a certain commitment we have toward the Club and to ensure that we attract more people to join us.

Perhaps the 12 of us may come together to brainstorm ways and means to include some agenda whenever we have our monthly meeting.

    My 7 cents worth.

  2. Hi Dan,

I will be out of town most of the year, so I myself wont call for any meetings. I would prefer the different EOs do some thinking of their own. They are free to consult one another. For some members, this event will be a big challenge to them, and if the EOs need some advice, they can consult one another. Or better still, let’s be open and discuss openly here on this forum, so that all members know what is involved in organising an activity. And, they are free to offer their ideas and suggestions too.

Finally, the EO of each event decides. This encourages creativity in SilverHairs. I wont hold out anything, so, go ahead and discuss openly here.

  3. EOs may need an Assistant and I’m willing to help any EO who is organising a WALK as I LOVE WALKING. I walk along Alexandra Park Connector (APC) each morning from 6.00 to 7.00am with my Walking Kaki Judy Gay.
