  1. Hi Yew Kwong,

Thanks for organising this trip. There are some interests but it is too distant to commit.

I would like to suggest that some time in July you request for a non-refundable deposit for all the arrangements that you will have to make. That should help your arrangements with the boatmen and hotels.

On a more sober note, some of you may have heard of the unfortunate hit and run accident involving one of our cyclists. Pls keep her in your prayers and ride safe, foremost.

  2. I saw the TV news about Rose White’s accident tonite.
Let’s send our regards to her family to wish her speedy recovery.

In the meantime, cyclists, pls be extra, extra careful when
moving on the roads. It may not be your fault if you have the
right of way, but it may be your misfortune the other driver doesn’t see you have the right of way.

As the saying goes in war:

It is not who is right is important
It is who is left that matters.

    Have a safe cycling.

    SAFETY FIRST.

    rgds,
    james

  3. Hi guys

This Sat I will be do a recce of the chalets at this Resort. I will go ahead an book a chalet for 10 persons if the place still proves good else will move around to look at other resorts.

Chartering of ferry can be done nearer to date by giving 2 weeks’ notice.

Rose White was knocked down by a car in a hit and run accident while she was cycling home after a group ride. The 38 yr old man suspected of drunken driving was apprehended on the same nite. She will be operated on tomorrow to insert screws to secure her spine. Any member who wish to visit her can do so after tomorrow. Let us pray for her recovery.

  4. Hi all,
I just had dinner with Rose on Sunday April 7 and we planned to go Greece together if God willing end of this year but now this happens…. have been praying for her speedy recover. Some of us ladies going to visit her today in the evening. Do join us if you can.
I would like to ask her family members esp her daughters to do up a wish list and see if we can help out financially in getting items that she needs most for her road to recovery. If you like to be part of well wishers who like to participate in Rose wishlist, do email me at laurawee@hotmail.com. We will proceed from there as I really hope to help her in some ways that will be meaningful to her, instead of buying flowers, chocolates or things that she does not need.
God bless her and her hubby and 2 angels.
    Laura Wee

  5. Hi All,
Some of us are getting constant updates with regards to Rose White’s progress.

As of now, she had already come around, can talked and ate already. Her Opn tenativel is Monday. Docs will observe her these days.. if any complications/problems detected, will move the opn to either WEd or Thurs.

As advised, it is better not to visit her now as she still in sedation – Open her eyes less than few secs only, so it would be better to visit her later, preferably a few days later after her opn.

    Best regards, Dolly

  6. Latest update :

I went for a recce yesterday n met the owner of the resort. Tentatively I booked a 3-room chalet which could accomodate 12-15 persons (4 persons in each room n 3 persons in the living room).

If the number confirmed is lesser on closing date, I will change the chalet.

  7. Hi Yew Kwong,

Thanks for organising this trip. Please register me.

Just wondering if it will be better for us to rent the bikes at Pengarang instead of ferrying them to and fro from Changi?

    Ann

  8. Hi Ann
Thee are 2 places in Pengarang which rent out bikes, one 3 km n the other 18 km from Tg Pengilih ferry terminal. Tristan Park arranges for car pickup from jetty to park to pick up mtb n vice versa on return. Rental fees are similar to SG but the bikes are not in good conditon from experience. The other is @ Sg Rengit which u need to take a cab there. Rental rates I m not sure but can find out. The shop in SG @ Changi Village offers bikes in good condition from experience. Anyway we can discuss rented bikes near to date. Thanks.

  9. Hi Karen

You are right to call me Yeung (how about omit the word Mr, I am not sure if I am a Mr, haha). You should calling me, because there are many Andrew, but there is only one Yeung,

Of course I will like to support our big brother (call him big brother not because of his age, I am much older than him, but because of his contribution to SHC). I am not sure whether I can finish the distance. Are you coming? If yes, I will buy a cheap, cheap bicycle and start to practice at home now. Hope to gain enough confidence to join.

  10. Hi Karen

When we called out, our voice will be transmitted to the others ear via air. The air will abate and distort our voice gradually. No matter how loud n clear when you called, the voice will change and vanish at last. So if you want to tell me or ask me something, I prefer you whisper in my ear to call it out, haha. Sorry for nonsense, because it is a free and boring weekend to me.

Just bought a cheap, cheap bicycle back, will start practice next Mon. I don’t know if time is enough for me to practice, as there are many jobs in May (I owe you one more drinks, not meal hor). Hope I can make it.

  11. Hello,

I stumbled on this site as I am also organising a cycling trip. Do you mind sharing with me your contact for Ramunia Beach Resort?

I used to stay at “Sunrising Ramunia” Beach Resort which had seafront chalets. I wonder if it is the same. I can’t seem to get through the numbers though.

    Ride safe.

    Cheers
    Soo

  12. I’m still waiting for more people to join this Event. In the case the number is less than 12, we shall leave at a later time n queue for the ferry at the ferry terminal. Maybe instead of leaving at 7 am, we can leave at 8 am to allow more time for those going to reach Changi Village. Will update info nearer to date.

Confirmation will take place one month before event to confrm chalet type with the right number of rooms, bike rental fees n ferry charges. Anyway be it less or more people, I’m sure it’s going to loaded with lots of fun.

  13. Yes, the trip is confirmed even though number may be under 12. We just join main queue for ferry service. Instead of departing at 7 am, we now will push the time to maybe 8 or 9 am. More details will follow. Smaller group will get everyone to enjoy better.

  14. For those who are “half-baked” cyclists like me, I can try on a bicycle track, like what you see at East Coast Park, but not on the road. Can I qualify to join?

  15. Hi Susan
Pengarang does not have bicycle track. We have to cycle on the road accompany by light vehicular traffic. Once in a while a car or motor cycle will pass u with a gust of wind blowing your hair. If you are game, do come n join us but let us know as we need to book accommodation else you be sleeping on the beach. The distance we are going to cycle will be 18 km (jetty to Sg Rengit town plus 9 km from town to Resort. Total dist : 54 km for 2 ways.

  16. Wah piang, such a long distance. Iyoooo, give tnis a miss. This L-cyclist better pass her test first. I’m cool at the EC track with zero cars, but when one is within sight, this L-cyclist will be wriggling her way after that.

Pity, otherwise I might get a few more for you but we’re all the same L-cyclists lor.

  17. Hi Susan

I had organised 2 trips to Pengarang for newbies or like you called them “L-cyclists”. They passed with flying colors. Besides myself, Douglas had also organised many trips to Pengarang too. Pengarang is a quiet place which is most safe to cycle for all cyclists especially those who want a experience to cycle on Malaysian soil. Distance is not consider long as we make stops in between for cyclists to refresh themselves and refill their water supplies. Last month Douglas had organised one and those who went enjoyed it.

  18. Got a “bumper crop” for you – 8 fair maidens who will not be red lobsters huffing and puffing away under the hot sun. If you will still take us, all shielded away from the sun, here are the names:

    Susan CH Tan
    Ann Lim
    Christina Chan
    Esther Mok (friend)
    Evon Lim (friend)
    Irene Poh
    Peri Liew
    Teresa Seow

We will follow the cyclists – in the van, of course.

    Cheers!

  19. Hi Yew Kwong,
As a stalwart in the Club, glad to know that you are still coming forward to organize cycling trip for us. Too long have I been in hibernation mode. Not sure whether I can complete the trip but I am coming.

    Dan

  20. Hi Yew Kwong/Susan

Pls sign me in for this Pengarang Trip as a non-cyclist for a seat in the van as well as chalet booking.

    Thanks & cheers,
    anne

  21. Hi Yew Kwong,
Please include 2 non-cyclists, Adeline Chow and Carol Chow (frenz).
We (12 paxs) would like to pay a deposit. Please advise amount each and bank details, Susan Chan shall be our co-ordinator for all issues in this event.
    Thank you.

  22. Hi guys

The stay @ Ramunia Beach Resort is cancelled. I know this is going to sound absurb but let me tell u the story. I had updated the participants’ list yesterday with a happy heart. Today, my heart dropped dead.

This morning after a night cycling which ended @ 5.30 a.m. I put aside all my other important commitment and rode to Pengarang for a final recce and to confirm booking. The purpose was to confirm the one chalet I had booked and also to book another one more.

I took the ferry. This time I saw some new ones. Ferry fees also differ or maybe had increased too. First I rode to the coffee shop to have my bak kut teh. My surprise, it was gone and shop space was taken up by another selling produce. I went around and ask. Finally I located the stall and had my favorite dish.

There was a slight haze in Pengarang. The road littered with earth droppings from trucks was very dusty for quite some distance length and between Sungei Rengit and turning into Ramunia Beach Resort. When I reached the Resort, I was stunned to find the whole place totally deserted. Not a single soul was found. There were some digging around the chalets. I decided to take a peep at the chalet I asked for. Through the glass window I could see the condition was run down, much run down than the last time I rented it. The sofa in the living hall was also gone. The office was also locked. All u can see was a “thank you” card neatly placed on the counter. I spent 15 mins there and the only people I seen was a man on a motorcycle passing by.

I wish I knew what was happening. On 2nd thought I decided to cancel this event. Perhaps we can have another one in future but not in this place. So sorry that I had to dampen all your enthusiasm

  23. Hi Yew Kwong,

Oh no please dont let your heart stop, God bless you. Thank you for taking so much trouble to check out the place even after such a long night cycling and going in before the cock crows.

Fully understand. Haha pity they lost a good business opportunity!

    Susan

  24. Alamak! Got into another wrong group! Sorry people, my own carelessness. Too keh-kian, did not check group first.

Anyway, here goes…. Thanks Yew Kwong, for doing such a great job, and to Susan and friends, take care and enjoy yourselves!
