Have a look at the photo at the top of the SilverHairsClub website. Don’t you think it needs a change? Instead of me taking the photograph, how about you making use of your telephone camera, and emailing me the digital photo. If we receive more than one photo, we shall have a vote.
Let your fingers follow your heart.

Maybe, we can cut and paste those interesting SHC activities’ photos into a banner to replace the current 1, how abt that?
The pic does look like some kind of continuing columns of columbariums or columns fencing in gladiators to fight till death while the Roman lords watch from atop. Kind of morbid.
So Terence’s suggestion to have it replaced comes timely.
I am all for Dolly’s pic up there, juggling with the many lollipops tim ah liu offers her in lieu of flowers.
tim
If the banner is the strip of film with many frames type, it will be able to hold more photos.
Hi Terence,
I totally agree with Dolly and Tim that it is time to change the banner -long overdue.
The current banner which is dull and uninteresting depicts a ” GREYING ”
Silverhair community.
When I first browse at the SHC banner from the NTUC link page, I got the impression that we belong to the Ah Peks and Ah Sohs kind.
Not really true, although we may be old, we are all YOUNG at heart and is FULL of life.
Just to share, the dull and uninteresting banner almost turns me off but I decided to give myself a chance to join in one of the activities at potluck ECP and to my surprise it is what I am looking for.
And recommended my close friends Robert and Kristy to join me too.
I suggest you add in our SHC logo if any and the banner must be have more photos that are more VIBRANT COLOURFUL and INTERESTING .
Perhaps from the name silverhair ,
why NOT change it to a more APPEALING name ? Timely too.Terence.
And so SHC can finally can have a NEW BRAND name.
With a huge pool of 3000 members and their suggestions , we can FINALLY agree on one “perfect” name which we can analyze from our survey.
What say you guys and gals ?
Your comments please.
Steven Chan
Hi Terence
I totally agree with Dolly, Tim, Yew Kwong and Steven to have a change to the greyish banner at the top of the page. Adding too many photos to the banner, is like “too many cooks spoil the soup”. To have it stand out, colour should be vibrant. I have the problem when I first saw the banner, having to squint my eyes to see the lines, even though you can highlight the first line but not the second line. If we can, at the same time, in favour with Steven, to have the name-change as well. Looking around at the gatherings, not many silverhairs but many
a-blackhairs. Terence put a Post to gather suggestions for an appropriate name-change, a high sounding name, before we hit 10,000.
CHEERS
Ronlai
Hey Guys,
What’s wrong with the name Silverhairs har… I still prefer this name – it gave me the impression/message saying that though silverhairs but still vry young at heart lor. I am sure others when looking into the SHC website/activities will got them by surprise lor thus making them more likely to join rite?.. Is not this is what we are looking for?
Aiyo, these days, coloring of hair is the in-fashion la… so naturally bo many silverhairs seen mah..
Steven,
I love to say “No” to a name change because I dread the thought of making the change. I also doubt a new name would make a difference to the club’s objective.
Yet, at the same time, you may have a good point. We have debated this before, but, I am receptive to listen to new ideas and suggestions.
What is a nice name? How do we do a name change? What about the website name? Can we have a volunteer to help do the name change? What about the cost of doing the changes? Is a name change important? What if someone starts a new community, and call it “SilverHairClub” or “Still Young at heart”? Would this sound better to you?
How do you think we can go about doing a name change?
Terence Seah
Heeeee, we have to think abt the future when all silverhairs drop their hairs from their heads armpits, limbs, nostrils leaving polished baldness so let us be known as “Bak Cham Gais”?
Seriously, I think Silverhairs is distinguished & august.
Yes Dolly. I agree with you. I kinda like the “SilverHairs” name. So used to it already and we sort of build our friendship through this club, I will feel very disappointed if we have to change. My sister joins the “GreyHair Group” in Australia. I did not ask for what age group. So what colour our hair, it doesnt really matter cos we are comfortable with who we are :D
Warmest Regards
Caroline Gee
We are supposed to talk about inserting photos at the top of the SilverHairsClub website. But the debate seems to have taken a detour. We now talk about change of name.
Let me put it simple. A name is only a form. Its important but not that critically impt. Its members, activites, etc are the substances which form the core. This is most impt. People come, join and decide to stay because there are bunches of nice people and interactive activities here. Ask yourself the same question, “why you join and stay?”. The answers are the same.
Take another example, there is a club or perhaps an organisation, RSVP. Its name sounds plain and unattractive. Rite? In case you dont know what it stands for, Retired and Senior Voluntary Programme. It has worldwide affiliation which is the same as SilverHairsClub.
Take another layman example, if your name is Ah Beng and all your friends make fun of your name, are you going to change it? Think and think.
Hi Guys and Gals,
Let’s start the photo shoot. I am eager to receive your photos.
Terence Seah
Hi Terence
I noticed the 1st link on the photos for activity should be Nov. 05 but the header of the photos album read as Nov 06 ?? Thought just to highlight since you will be making the change.
It’s my first time browsing the photos dated so far back. :)
Cheers,
Susan
Hi Terence,
Don’t be so worked up lah !
I am only suggesting a name change doesn’t mean we have to have it implemented if it involve costs.
And I accept your reasons for not doing so.
Steven Chan.
Steven,
Please enjoy the name. You will like it more as we move along. And, dont forget, your picture may be selected. So, send your pix to me.
Terence Seah
The most prominent part of the current picture is the Merlion, which does resemble someone with silver hairs (by the way, plural “hairs” is a valid word)…and it is spewing words of wisdom, I suppose…
I am given a name, I hve to live with it till I die….but I can change my outlook, my beliefs, my lifestyle etc. So we leave the name pls, although I don’t really like it :-)). But yes, pls do change the photo at the top of the website…..whn I first saw it, I thot I was in some government website :-))) looks very “cheng hoo”…that’s civil service in teochew :-)))
June, once given a name, you’ll hv to live with it for life? Maybe not.
Born as tim liu, stooges in primary school called me sibuk-kow when i was the only kid wearing specs, then teh bo tee (for timothy), and many gals spoiled me by calling me hunni, deer, duck-ling, sweet-n-hard……………
Like some politicians said, you hv a choice but that doesnt mean i like SHC to be changed to spore tuft club or worse, silver turd club.
SHC can also stand for So Hip and Cool..but why do we want to be hip and cool? I think Silver Hairs sounds very distinguished, the perfect name for the club. At least, it sounds better than White Hair.
I fully agree with June.
Shouldn’t the categories (on the right hand side of the page) be in alphabetical order?
Lily,
I never did realise the categories were not in alphabet order. Blur blur. Shall have a look.
Terence Seah
Hi Terence,
Exactly what sort of theme or subject are you looking forward to see. eg. landscape, building, greenery, people, etc.
Benson
Hi Benson,
Good point. We have opened up this change of the main website picture to all SHC members. This is not set in gold; but I think it would be nice if the picture is reflective of our group and our home Singapore.
Go ahead and run wild on it. Even if it is a picture of an old kampong chicken farm, some boys playing golly, group of girls playing 5 stones, the old Singapore coffee shop, we can also go for it.
There are earlier suggestions for a paste-up of SilverHairsClub members and activities.
There is no bad picture. So, please go wild on it, as long as you think the picture is suitable.
This participation is for all SHC members. The chosen picture will be duly credited.
Have fun.
Terence Seah
We have received 3 pictures, to replace the current picture at the top of our website.
Got one more month to go. Take your favourite shots, and send them in. Waiting….
For those who dont like the current picture, this is your chance to change it.
Terence Seah
Hi everybody,
Just a reminder: If you would like to submit your picture, which can be used at the top of the website, do note the deadline is 31 July 2007.
Terence
Hi
We have less than three hours to send in our pictures…the power is in our hands. Do nothing and we will have merlion staring at us till the next opportunity.
Joy
Hi all ,
Wait i have a pic of Terence and Steven , learning very intensely watching 2 Baskers at work at St Paul Church in Malacca. I guess it is their retirement plan ? You should see the pic and you will know what i mean.
I am trying to post it here , but cant.
So can we hold this pic for consideration ?
Cheers
Hi all,
Ok am sending this pic to a few people for consideration. Steven, Terence, Lily, and Yew Kwong.
Cheers
Hi Ronald Wie
The picture is cute but not sure of it’s suitability for the banner.
So far, the ideal picture has not popped up. So, thinking two weeks ahead, and as we will be having the Ubin trip, we will pick one of the pictures taken during the cycling/walking event.
So bring your camera that day. Shoot whatever you like, and maybe your choice picture will stay up at the top of the SilverHairsClub website for a year.
Terence Seah
Hi everybody,
I have finally found an excellent picture, to represent SilverHairs and SilverHairsClub.
The picture spreads nicely across the webpage. You can see the smiles, cheerfulness, vibrance and the friendship which the SilverHairsClub hope to bring to SilverHairs in Singapore.
The picture was taken at the last Pulau Ubin trip. Come and meet the 3 fellow SilverHairs. I hope everybody likes it.
Terence Seah
The picture is underexposed for most computer screens. Unless this is for artistic effect you may wish to touch up on the contrast / brioghtness.
Another trick is to emphasize the white of the teeth/eye and leave the rest of picture untouched.
A nice and refreshing change on the webpage…
Dennis, you are caught on candid camera and now you are one of the SHC “model/celebrity” in this picture hahaha…
Wow, Karen you are in too ! Ambassador for SHC ! No bad leh Terence, but should have captured more faces there instead of just 3 lah…. just thinking aloud….ha..ha..
The picture spreads nicely across the webpage……And so are their smiles across happy faces, showing complete sets of teeth….dont hv to count, all 36 are intact, silverhairs or not.
“The picture was taken at the last Pulau Ubin trip. Come and meet the 3 fellow SilverHairs……”
Huh, so they’re still there?
Oops, so sorry, you are Grace not Karen…. too many new members to remember and so got mixed up…. think I hv not met Karen yet..ha..ha..
Wow, what a pleasant make-over for the webpage! Snapshot of young-looking SHCians and their cheerful smiles against a green fauna backdrop. Very pleasing, soothing and comfortable to the eyes. Words and prints are distinctly visible now.
Thank you Terence for the great improvement. Also thanks to our Ambassadress Grace Kok and Ambassadors Jeremy Tan & Dennis Wee.
Hi, I give up. Pls cld someone show/tell me where’s the excellent picture to be spread across the webpage. Can’t seem to find it.
Hi Jnne
You just need to refresh the page… and bingo, you will see Grace smile. Try it. :)
Sorry typo error, June… you got it now ?
Hi Terence, indeed better and brighter look. Thumbs up! It would definitely be nice to see other members too; changing out periodically.:)
Sorry Suzhang…dumbo me don’t know how to refresh the page :-))
We can have the next photo change, on the top of our SHC website. Very likely, we can select a photo from the SHC D&D event. Definitely, the photo will be about members and members’ activity.
So, hold on until then. Suggestions welcome.
Terence Seah
Hi everybody,
During the coming Dinner and Dance, a few of us will be taking photographs. One of the pictures taken will be selected to replace the current banner photo, at the top of our website.
So have fun, and be prepared.
Terence Seah
The person featured at the top of our website is Tan Boon Liang. He is also known as Alan Tan. A keen cylist and a strong supporter of SilverHairsClub activities.
We have many nice pictures of SHCians. Every two weeks, we would try to put up a new banner picture.
We hope to feature as many SHCians as possible, within the space above. So, have fun and do get to meet more friends within the club.
Terence Seah
Today, we introduce Janet and Liu. Have you met them at some of our events?
Terence Seah
Terence
I must applause ur gd move. 1st we hv single n then double. Wats nx? Guess it shd b Triple, sth like a double wif a reserve. Agree! LoL.
Yeap, yeap, I recognised them. First, was Janet sat at 1 corner during our first pot luck at ECP. I supp Liu was bz then 2 keep her company hor. But these days, they are always in pair coming for every events lor..

Warmest Regards
Caroline Gee
Hi Janet, Liu and everyone,
Am glad you like your photos. I won’t give Liu a shock, both of you look great with the sea in the background.
All pictures at the top of the website are intended to introduce SHCians to other members of the club. The pictures will be picked and cropped in good taste. So, no one needs to worry about being made fun off. In future, I think to avoid giving shocks, I shall send an email to the persons who are featured. Top of website pictures will generally be fetured for two weeks.
Selected photos will come from our library of events photographs. If for some reason, you do not like the featured banner photograph, please feel free to let me know via email.
Terence Seah

Terence Seah
Who’s that little guy at the left bottom corner? Our youngest SHC member? :o)
Ron Koh
Hi RonK
It appears that the little guy at the bottom let hand corner, is a “new recruit” of Terence, most probably qualify as SHCian, being “silverhairs” and age 45 years minus the figure “5”.
RonLai
A new banner picture is published today. Would you like to take a guess, when this picture was taken? Definitely taken during one of our gatherings. Can the two stars please stand up?
Terence Seah
Terence #54:
Where’s that little guy?! I like that little guy! :o)
Ron Koh
hmmmm, this banner picture was taken during one of the monthly gathering at Hans’ cafe. One of the star is Esther Leong, the other star is who huh? Would love to meet you this coming Wed’s monthly gathering at Paya Lebar Kovan CC. See you guys & gals. :)
Ah Nee
Oi Cheng,

Ah Nee
Dear Oi Cheng

Thanking you and have a nice day, JanetH.
Yew Kwong

Hi Yew Kwong and Oi Cheng

One of the guys in the photograph above pointed a toy gun at me; and ask that we have his photograph up before the week ends. Make sure you refresh your browser so that you can see all four handsome young men.
Do you know all four of them? One of them is always up the tree, another is a sportsman, the third loves Thailand and the fourth is happily retired. If you need help finding their names, please check with Grace and Janet. Or try asking Daniel Chan or Kenneth Tan.
Terence Seah
Hi everybody,
Don’t forget to refresh your browser. We have a new fashion shot, at the top of our website. As usual, here is a test of how many SHCians you know. Would you know who are the 6 ladies in the picture?
Terence Seah
Veronique Lee, Gingko Tay, Jane Wong, Oi Cheng and Bira.
6 pretty ladies in a row….Bingo, I got 1st prize. Who to claim huh? :)
Ah Nee
Ah Nee,
I have to claim from you. Count again. Should have six names.
Terence Seah
Terence,
Another pretty & fair lady is Eleanor Chan, slightly behind the 5 ladies. I strike again…Bingo! :)
Ah Nee

Terence Seah

Terence Seah

Terence Seah
We had our last monthly gathering, a Peranakan fashion show at SMU Admin bldg. There were many nice pictures of our models; and one fits the width of our webpage. To see the other pictures, click here http://silverhairsclub.com/shc1/shc081118/.

Terence Seah
Another picture taken during the concert. Please refresh your browser.
Terence Seah
Hi everbody,
A new banner picture has been picked from among the photos taken at the January charity event. Do you know him? Sometimes, he calls himself a giraffe. Remember to refresh your browser.
Terence Seah
Of course, we know our dear STEVEN. He puts service before self. … also for those who have not met him, he holds the record for being the tallest SHCian.
I have been putting up the web banner pictures since day one. Yew Kwong will take over this function from 1 March 2009. I try not to repeat the people in the photo. One of the considerations is the picture should be long, size 700 pixel by 184 pixel. So, if you are posing in a group, and some are standing while others are sitting, chances are the picture wont be selected.
I have always difficulties finding a balance of males and females in the photo, so sometimes we have a string of ladies, some a string of men, and sometimes a string of mix sexes. Of course, we try to make sure only SHCians appear in the banner picture. Likely after the Feb monthly, I shall do one more banner picture change, before handing to Yew Kwong. We try to keep this change simple.
Terence Seah
Hi Terence,
Sorry for the late reply.
My computer KAPOK last few days ,Ok and then MABOK again. Now still a bit “gila gila”. It seems that even computers can become “MOODY” like us.
NO need so much publicity leh to the extent of putting it on the main webpage banner. Almost pengsan .Pai seh, paiseh.
I HAD HAD more than enough of publicity where ever I go . They will always be someone who kept staring at me as if there had seen an “alien” from Mars.
At first I feel awkward but after a long time, I became “immune” to them.Well, I can still see above their heads.
And my nicknames from teen to adulthood has evolved gradually from Yin tang to Panjang to Koh Loh to Bamboo and finally to “Girafa” a new term coined by Terence.
Even some of my students who sat at the front row of the class kept complaining. Aidoh! aidoh! sakit kepala.
I asked them why and they complained to me that they have to “crane” their necks to look HIGH up at the “giraffe”
The 2 giraffes that appear on the banner esp. the left one looks so “apek” .
Tolong tolong,Terence, pls. delete this banner ASAP and replaced by those SHcians who are more deserving.
Right now, I had a suggestion. Why NOT replace it with another banner that have all the 3 EOs, Yew Kwong, Dolly Lim and Oi Cheng who had sacrifice so much of their time and effort to make the charity lunch a success or others like Charles Wee, Xstina Chan,Lily ,Boon Liang, Douglas,Danz and Joyz etc…
Hope to see a NEW refreshing banner soon ASAP.
The banner picture is always chosen from SHC events. These photographs are usually uploaded by Oi Cheng.
Yew Kwong has been busy recently. So, I shall upload the photograph on his behalf. A photograph has been chosen by Oi Cheng, on the advice of Yew Kwong, and it has now been uploaded to the top of our website. Please refresh your browser. Do you know most of the people in the cycling group?
Terence Seah
Dan Huang at work, during the 3rd SilverHairsClub D&D. Refresh your browser. More pictures to come.
Terence Seah
Just uploaded a refreshing photograph, taken from the Annual Dinner. Please refresh your browser.
Terence Seah
A new banner photo has just been uploaded. Please refresh to see the picture. You may note that we will only used photographs that are stored on the SHC web server.
This time we have one of the EOs of the Kelong trip, and also the EO for the coming Bollywood night. Guess who is the man next to her.
The next website banner will be done by Yew Kwong. He is ready.
Terence Seah
Our website banner photo has been changed. Please refresh your browser so it will be visible. I see a Jackie Chan on the extreme right of the photo. Personally, I have not met him. StevenC, please remember you are the tallest in SHC; so always be conscious to stand a little bit lower so we can include you in photographs.
And, I am wondering what everybody is looking it?
Terence Seah
I love watching Getai shows. They always bring back the nostalgic feelings of the good old days when my parents were still around. Then, I was living around Payoh Lai. I am a Teochew, yet am crazy over hokkien songs. Today’s Getai shows attract many seniors and I hope you are one of them.
Never saw a Getai show in Malaysia. I wonder if there are Getai shows in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan or China.
Please refresh your browser.
Terence Seah
Terence,
Never know you like Getai, now you can partner Lina. She likes Getai too, last year, she practically went round the island for Getai shows. She told me that there’s one on this coming Thursday, aiya I can’t remember the venue bcos that’s not my cup of tea. Perhaps Lina can update you on the venue and upcoming shows.
The new banner looks like a Kelong?
Ah Nee
All Getai lovers,
You can find out everythings about Getai in Singapore including daily schedule at http://getai.stomp.com.sg/getai/season4/
The schedule is updated daily.
The schedule is also shown in Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao.
Aaron
Aaron, I will definitely try to make a date this week to see a Getai show.
Ah Nee, the new banner picture may look like a kelong. But, I am thinking of tearing it down, and making it into an SHC clubhouse. Changes coming up.
Terence Seah
The village has been taken down for reconstruction. Please refresh your browser. Do you know when this picture was taken?
Terence Seah
“Do you know when this picture was taken?”
Elementary.
The foto was taken in the 1950s at Kandang Kerbau Hospital where kerbau and monyet were made. The foto reminds me of sumokong who was also born in an adult-form, also eating, not mee but bananas.
What amazes me, however, is their speed find clothes to wear, so fitting somemore. Sumokong wasnt so lucky, even today…………
Hi Terence,
The serenity that portrays on the countenance of this nice couple is indescribable. In comparison to the tranquility of the former picture, there’s no comparison!
Its indeed a perfect shot taken during the monthly gathering @ Ghim Moh in July ’09.
Cheers!
