Christina Leow – Profile

Hi there, I am a new member. Been to your last gathering at Han’s.

Robed in by Edwin and had spoken to KT and Terence concerning SHC Blue Helmet looking for CFO.

I am above 45 years old, married with 2 children of age 15 and 8 years old respectively.

I have been a Regional Accountant for more than 15 years before progressing to Financial Planning industry to serve the needs in the Business arena. I am also involved in several social enterprise projects like property – redevelopment of eco-village nursing home(still in processs), business planning and funding including Acquisition and Mergers etc. Anything relate to Finance, I can be of help.

My interest is of Art like oil painting and fashion designing which I pick up recently after not active for many years.

My desire is to help people, the community(as long as it dont cost me my leg…)in area of my strength. That is what make my life meaningful each day. Eg I do help people find jobs, path their career and find better ways of generating income for their business.

I trust, in days to come, I can add value to SHC and be a blessing to all of you.

Cheers

Recently, I went to an Art Exhibition displaying various forms of Art eg Oil painting, photo painting, digital painting etc. It’s such an eye opener. Planning to help a friend of mine to start a business in this area. Anyway, hope to share with you more in this area when we meet.

  3. Hi Christina,

There is artist amongst us and that is Jocelyn Soh, who does porcelain paiting, crafts and other arts. It is a treat just to have a look at the 30 years or more of her artwork in her house and have tea also while enjoying a good talk with her. Can arranged if for you if are free sometime.

Your CFO resume and investment offer of hlep sounds interesting, and wonder do you have any setup of retirement cum oldage homes working plans in Malaysia , Thailand ,or in nearby, countries. Would like to sort of stay cum work,or volunteer in some way, in such setups in SE Asia.

Would you have time to meet Dennishar, me and other interested parties sometime this week, probably at the new SHC meeting place at Scoreboard at Bali Lane ? email boffcourse@yahoo.ocm

  4. Hi Ronald
Thanks for your sharing of Jocelyn Soh’s passion for Art. Indeed looking forward to have the opportunity to meet up with her.
Concerning the setting up of RCOH, we are in the stage of meeting up with the Owner who will only be in Singapore in Dec 07. There are two plot of lands we are planning to work on with our Business plan. At the moment, just concentrating the local market. Prefer to conquer locally before going abroad. Perhaps, in future if opportunities arises and have enough manpower will consider.
Btwn, can meet up with you guys this Friday say 2.30 pm at Bali Lane if timing is ok with you all.

  5. By the way, Chris I am a Full Time Trader in Equities and Derivatives with a local brokering house. Are you familar with the requiremnets for setting up Fund Managements. I am interested to know and find out how to qualify with MAS regulations. More info of myself can be found under the Investment thread “Stocks Investing, Sharing of Experiences”

Glad to know your background. Having said that, you understood that it is something big you are talking about – setting a Fund Management. Apart from huge start up capital needed, fixed costs involved to maintain the compliance dept is high and not easy. MAS regulation guideline
is managable but are you really serious??
Complimentary for small time business plan as part of goodwill to help those people get started but I do charge when proposal gets complex. Nevertheless, we can meet and chat further.
Btwn, cant seem to get hold of Terence

    Chris

  7. That’s correct.

During the time when I was there, the Regulations under the then Securities Industries Act, required one to have at least tens of millions in start-up capital, proven track record, qualified personnel at the helm etc.

The Regulations must be a lot more stringent today.

Perhaps without being too ambitious, interested parties could gather and share their financial knowledge and if gungho enough, pool their resources and invest in a basket of diversified financial instruments.

  8. Hi Chris/Tim Liu,
We had an enquiry from China trying to see how to get their funds here. I was thinking the best way was to have a fund management company in some way and do a tied up. If I had tens of millions then why think so hard, just go for holidays and see the world.

  9. DennisH, we all know that foreign funds are most welcome into Spore, and private banking/wealth management here has never been this good.

But if funds wish to seek a home here thru dubious conduits, understandably shunned by the banks, then it’s a risk we have to examine carefully before assuming it ourselves. Dare I doubt that it’s not money laundering?

Some recent years ago, a business associate approached me to work on moving some foreign funds (USD500mio) about and finally to a safe haven. Parties met, office was leased & set up but it came to nought when I refused to back-down on my price for the kind of risk. Haha, might hv landed me a bungalow in changi next to APB’s Lee, or a bullet btwn my eyes when the funds are safely hidden under the Alps snow…. shudder to think of it now.

China is booming and multi-millionaires are made by the hours. Some of the wealth may be ill-gotten and may need someone to help stashed away somewhere.

Perhaps can consider it if the price is right. But as silverhairs our lease on earth is shortening (which makes every year all the more to be treasured), rich food adds to worries of diabetes etc, many hv lost the guts to do the bungy jump or the stamina to flirt so the price may never be right cos no amount can extend our earthly lease & the freedom to enjoy tis lease…….

(Btw, the Securities Industry Act & Futures Trading Act hv been “replaced” by the Securities & Futures Act, and the Financial Advisers Act. The MAS has on 11 Oct issued a consultation paper on tightening the licensing exemptions relating to fund management. Well?)

  10. Of cos it’s alright with me but I need to do some deep inhalation first to compose myself…….in case there may be shockers…….but like the Chinese say, Si shi ru kui (see dying as going home) so will call…………..

  11. Hi Terence/Dennis/KT

Thank you Terence for agreeing to meet up with us and KT for sharing about Blue Helmet.

I appreciate your endorsement about my plan to set up, another platform, “Golden Gateway” -A Social Enterprise, to help people on all matters related to businesses.

As been informed, Blue Helmet’s objective was retraining and recruitment and therefore Golden Gate’s objective which will be filling up the gap of people whose preference are being a entrepreneur rather than being employed – thus, the birth of GOLDEN GATEWAY ,to make the SHC platform more holistic.

I will be doing a business plan/model based on this concept and will like to welcome people who are likeminded to explore with me further, to form this Business clinic outreach. Btwn, any enquiries are welcome.

It is my desire to see that Blue Helmet to launch at the same time as Golden Gateway so that we can reach out to more people all at the same time.

Dennis, if you want to take another step of discussion concerning your proposal to set up fund management company, do call me and we can meet to discuss further.

  12. Chris, tks for extending your assistance. I will be having a meeting at scorebot on monday 11.00am pertaining to F&B. If you can spare the time. We shall meet. F&B setup may also need your assistance.

    Together We can achieve MORE…

  13. Hi Christina,

Glad to have you join the SilverHairsClub. I have discussed with KT on the Blue Helmet project, which is a training and jobs project for SilverHairs. Unfortunately, the project has not moved too far, for a number of reasons. This project, in its latest form and plan, is now put on hold; and may come back at a later stage in a simpler format.

Meantime, from time to time, members may be approaching you to seek your advice on social enterprise business and projects. And, if you see any projects raised on this forum, please feel free to participate.

As a guide, projects or businesses that involve or benefit SilverHairs are supported.

    Terence Seah

  14. Hi Terence
    Thanks for your support.
Certainly it is joy to be able to bless others.
Like a farmer who plant a seed, with great confidence that a fruit will be harvested in time. Same, this seed of advice that I can help plant into their path/life through sharing and exploring of ideas, which I am confident fruits of blessing will be harvested in due time.
    Regards
    Chris
