Inexpensive ways to achieving healthy living

It prompt me to invite our SHC members to share their experiences on how to heal or cure common sicknesses, diseases and illnesses, and for those who know of the secret of keeping "Young and Energetic", all methods or ways to achieving it should be either free or inexpensive.

The medicinal garden in Alexandra Hospital currently has over 90 species of medicinal plants, which was planted in May 2005 together with the help of volunteers from schools & the community. Alexandra Hospital hopes that with the additional of the medicine garden to its 20-hectare land, it would bring about a more holistic healing environment for patients and visitors. Go and find out more on its usefulness.

Recently I came across an article promoting a new method of looking Young not through using "BOTOX" but through practising "FACIAL KHARMA". It said that there are 36 acupoints on our face and if we know of the method to message it regularly, our face will become radiant and youthful. Check it out.

Well, is there anything else you would like to share?

  1. Hi robert,

    Thanks for welcoming me home.

As for walk, thanks for invitn . I will not be joining you all as my eldest sister is still at my home just after our recent China trip.

    Enjoyed your walk.

  2. Hi Patrick Yeo,

….(….Have you ever wonder why some people eats a lot, never exercise and yet never get FAT?

and….And there are some whose HAIR haven’t turn GREY even at age 65?

Well, these are the people who are born with “GOOD” genes.

    Aren’t they LUCKY ?

Turning old is a natural process ,and we had to accept it with whole heatedly

Any EXTREME makeover, lifting and botox injectn can harm/damage the face in the long run and sufferings from side effects.

Look what happens to Micheal Jackson’s face now.
He looks more like an “alien” than a human.

Well,I considered myself one of the lucky people around SHC.

I can eat a lot but yet to see myself getting FAT.

In fact, my initials, C.S.F. coin by my ex-classmates in Malaysia stands for Cannot Store Fat and I had NEVER been fat in my whole life because I love to exercise a lot and my metabolic rate is high.
And so whatever excess fats that remains are “burnt” off as energy.

  3. Great ??

Patrick, before you jump up the tree, clap yr hands & dance there, do you know that 17% of sporeans hv positive thinking?

This is abt the same number (1/6) considered mad.

    Ok, you can jump now………..

    “Don’t worry, be happy”.

Alright, we’ll try that out even as we read of that woman who died recently after her ex torched the house and caused a brain damage to their twin-son.

And yet another……..the wife of a penniless guy who leapt onto an incoming mrt to be killed. Generous donations (some $500k) poured in. Now, she’s dignosed with leukemia.

In their cases, it’s more like count your tears than count yr blessings.

Yes, Pat, it’s good to start training yr Nei Gong but never forget to look after yr ah Gong, a skill yr Kung Fu Master probably left out cos filial piety had no commerical value.

In mediation, you hv to open yr eyes wide to see who blinks first. In meditation, I believe you hv to close both yr eyes.

So meditation in a dark room with a candle lighted sint my cup of tea……….sekali catch fire & kena goreng pisang, how?

Pat, I wish you luck and more. I wish that you keep a fire extinguisher in the room.

    (tim, enough, be serious !)

Few live lives with every serving made on a silver platter. The journey to the end is usually fraught with trappings, challenges and set-backs tho there’re also silver-linings and opportunities.

So it’s good to hv a positive outlook and keep friends who not only share their umbrellas with you but hv no qualm giving you a bigger shield from the pelting rain.

    Have a Nice Day.

  4. Great!!

It seems that almost every SHCians agree that Positive Thinking or Thought will overcome anything.

And as Charles mentioned about positive attitude and When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself you are going to be fine, to be happy. Even if you forsee problems in the day, it is going to be resolved. Don’t worry, be happy. Count your blessings, think about those in worser state than you.

Well Tim, looks like I have to start training my Nei Gong and Qing Gong again. You see when I was at the age of 15, I had learnt about this technique or skill from my Kung Fu Master. This also involve meditation in a dark room with a candle lighted. The result after 6 months will make one feel Energetic / Vigorous, Alert (mentally and physically) and Youthful.

I will try to take up this challenge. Hope to make myself looks different after 6 months. Wish me luck.

    Have a Nice Day.

  5. Agree with Charles and Susan that positive thinking is important for our mental health and
well being as we age. So if we can make the effort to cancel out all negative thoughts every time these come into the mind and replace them with positive thoughts, after a while you will see the difference. A healthy mind, one that is filled with joy, peace, love and happiness usually benefit the body as well.On the other hand, guess how much damage a poisoned mind (filled with negative thoughts)can do to the body.So I think
we should choose our thoughts wisely,it’s up to us.

Patrick, this is my contribution to your health topic. This sharing is just my personal
opinion on living with a positive attitude (positive thinking). There are many good books on this subject,in the market, if you want to learn more.

    Cheers …. Philip

  6. Hi Charles & Terence

I agree totally with you guys. I think it’s very important, as we come to our age, to think positively and count our blessing each day… Do not take things for granted. Be kind to others and yourself. Treat yourself once in awhile. Go for spa and have time to relax. Stay cool and be happy, have fun and enjoy whatever you are doing and go crazy once in a while with friends…. stay healthy, exercise and eat and sleep well, I think all these will attribute to staying young and healthy to old age.

  7. Haha, Patricl, you’re spot on with “An apple a day, keeps the Doctor away” and so we dont see a doc eating or selling apples.

Grow herbs along the verandah? Next, the hdb will vroom for rental.

DIY? Well, the masseuses are special….surely, you know that.

Dan has said he’s giving up his bed minton so let’s hope you can take over. Or you’re already kept busy with Kachip Fatimah ?

But you do impress me with yr good knowledge of herbs & medicinal plants.

If I find it difficult to keep a 31 inch waistline, it’s probably an even more impossible task for Patrick. But since Terence has thrown us this challenge, we will take it headon. So Patrick, when you’re free this wkend, let’s start to do the bind together.

Finally, agree with Rene and Charles…..yes, exercise regularly and keep our spirits high, never sigh.

  8. It is important to maintain a positive attitude. I remember hearing on the radio a speaker who said ‘ fake it till it works’.
When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself you are going to be fine, to be happy. Even if you forsee problems in the day, it is going to be resolved. Don’t worry, be happy. Count your blessings, think about those in worser state than you. cheers.

  9. Hi Terence,

Indeed your view points and countermeasures on aging is true.

It is easily said than done to maintain waist line and regular exercises.

Have you ever wonder why some people eats alot, never exercise and yet never get FAT? And there are some whose HAIR haven’t turn GREY even at age 65?

Perhaps we need to find out more on how these people can be so fortunate.

Once a colleague of mine shared his secret on keeping his hair DARK and his body-Slim build. He is now around 65 and yet I hardly can find any GREY Hairs on his head that is full of thick hairs.

He said that when he was young, he used olive oil and Brycream to keep his hair looking shiny.
He usually spend longer time combing his hair than anything else.

He drinks Beer literally everyday (at least a Bottle or 2)and he sweat alot even without exercise especially when he eat his food – a hankerchief always on standby. Yet he never grow FAT.

Well lets see who else would like to share their secret to success in Healthy living.

  10. Hi Patrick,

I believe that as one gets older, there is nothing much we can do to change the organs inside our body. In other words, old is old. Of course, we should try to keep fit and eat healthy.

Once in a while, I hear about Botox. Haven’t tried it; don’t think it is necessary, but I guess it works.

What I think is important, as we get into our Silver years, is we must feel well, make effort to look good and consciously and not resigned ourselves to retirement and anything negative with the post-war baby boomers.

When SilverHairsClub started, I noticed that there are many among us who take a positive outlook about retirement and SilverHairs years. As a result, they feel good, exercise continuously to keep healthy, keep themselves busy with part-time work, some online trading, go dancing, make effort to travel, and wholeheartedly keep up with friends.

Patrick, I have always wanted to say this; but since you raise this topic noe, I shall say it quicker. In my mind, I think that as one gets older, we should “eat less”, “keep the waist to lower than 31 inches”, “maintain a tidy hair style”, “don’t wear baggy clothes”, and “maintain a vibrant group of friends”.

    Terence

  11. Tim,

Thanks for the kick start on the agenda.
I am very sure that the MIND is more powerful than any medicine on earth. However as saying goes “An apple a day, keeps the Doctor away”. What better way it can be to stay Healthy or how about a garden within our veranda that is full of medicinal plants? That way the sicko & dying Bolui Singh need not to stare in despair with his 10 cents life long saving.

How often one can really spend on facial massage? so why bother to visit a Beauty Salon when one can DIY?

Dan may find his Bed minton helps loosen facial muscles but he still need to sweat it out to keep his bed without giving it away.

Some Facts about Plants : The Beautiful Datura Flower masks the plant’s shady past. Seeds from its fruit used to be burnt under Kampong houses, making residents drowsy and the home easy pickings for thieves.
Plant like the Tongkat Ali claimed to be a local Traditional Version of Viagra.
Kachip Fatimah which is said to be an aphrodisiac for women.
Beware of Castor Oil Tree, its prickly fruit contains a deadly natural poison, ricin, for which there is no known antidote.
The Madagascar Periwinkle made the grade and its derivatives are used to treat Cancer.

Between 35,000 and 70,000 plants are used in Traditional Medicines around the World. So far, just 5,000 have been screened by laboratories as possibilities for Western Treatment.

Any things to add on ?

  12. Patrick, no biz? Ok, let me be yr first customer.

I hv abstained from medication for as long as I can remember. I practise mind over matter, that I dont hv the time & luxury to fall sick, and it works for me.

If I am hit by a very bad flu, I’ll just sleep it thru, unperturbed by the thot that it might be my last sleep.

The medicinal garden may entice with over 90 species of medicinal plants but will the really very sick get the benefit from a garden teeming with invite?

Haha, sicko & dying Bolui Singh can stare and salivate at the plants but he is resigned to the fact that his worldly possession of only 10 cents wont buy him a vein of the leaf from the luxuriant plantation.

The guys are catching up fast with the gals as far as facial goes. Clearly, guys find the same mEssage in the mAssage as the gals.

Dan’s bed in his minton helps to loosen facial muscles and over time, it slows down the look of ageing. However, the problem is, he’s thinking of giving up his bed but not giving it away tho……….
