  1. yo Danz… I like this “If you miss the Monday class you can catch the Wednesday class”.

rummmmmmBa! tinie itsy tipsy on Mondays already… hahaaha… Monday it shall be for me!

  2. Thank you Dan (by now a very famed & famous dancer) for inviting me to danz and asking me what will be my preferred day.

My preferred day has to be Thaipusam Day when, encouraging the kavalier beareres, you can danz with polic protection along the roads and streets, from serangoon rd, part of orchard rd, river valley rd and finally into tank rd where you give thanks.

See, the danz is free, the style is also free and the pattern, any form you choose so long as it’s joyous and can spur the faithfuls on & on.

  3. Hi Dan,

Please include me in the Mon 7.15 class, thanks.

Really appreciate your efforts in organising and coordinating the dance class for us…. it is not an easy job….. and dont bang ur head against the wall anymore…..if not I am very sure u wont be able to steadily rummmmmmbal ….lolssssssssss

    Jane

  4. Hi Dan

Thanks for the effort in organising the dance class and at the same time having a hard time to get it fit for everyone. (Don’t hit your head against the wall lah
Will come to an amicable agreement :)- ). I would take the Wednesday class (though a little too early; Will try to fit. 7.30pm will be good). Thanks again for your effort.

  7. Hi Dan,

Actually, for me any day will do. So long at it is convenient to make up the numbers. But must check with my boss first. So Dan, you’ll have to put us on the same day ‘cos the chauffeur needs to earn her keep.

And does it mean we have to move together too, Nor and Ah Nee included. Dan will have to do more head banging! Sorry Dan.

  10. Hi Dolly,

Lina Ng, thanks for your kind understanding!

  15. Hi Dan,

    Just read the posting today.

Kindly remove my name from the list as I prefer Latin Rumba than Square Rumba and also I have commitment on alternate Wednesdays.

    Thanks for your effort.

  16. Dan,
I must said dat u r making me vry confused. First u said class on wed 2 many den split mon & wed. Now u said can join both mon n wed, so wat is d differences? At end day, oso many ppls in class.

Anyway, to cut short, if disco rock on wed, I am not interested, pls count me out…Thank… Dolly

  17. Hi Dan,

Now dat rumba is on Wed, i will come.
Btw, wat’s the diff in sq rumba and latin rumba? I hope the sq rumba is not lyt ballroom style.
Bessie, probly u can help since u noe the diff. rite? Thanks
    Cheers, Dennis

  18. Hi Dan,

Just realised from the various comments that square rumba is different from latin rumba. Since I am interested in the latin version, therefore pls count me out. If I am not mistaken they do the square rumba at line dances? Anyone care to enlighten me?

    Thanks!

  19. Dear Friends

Square Rumba is one of the basic social dances, such as cha-cha, waltz, etc.

Latin rumba comprises of chereographed routine rumba steps. Every instructor teaches their own sets of routines. Besides the many variations, it also emcompasses body movements and expressions. It is preferable to start with square rumba first before going into latin rumba. Just like latin cha-cha. If one does not know basic cha-cha steps, going straight into latin cha-cha would be a lot more difficult especially for the beginners.

So for those who already know square rumba, you can wait for latin rumba class to start. And for those who already know cha-cha, you can wait for latin cha-cha class to start.

In answer to Caterine Yeo’s query, line dancing incorporates many types of dance steps such as cha-cha, rumba box, waltz, charleston, sailor steps, broadway, etc. In short, it is a combination of many type of dances. Usually, there is one set of dance steps per song and the minimum is 32 steps for a beginner dance.

Hope this helps to clarify. Other proficient dancers, please help correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks.

  20. Danz Dan

I “vomit blood”. First, you posted American Latin, that’ why I put in my name. Now, you say Rhumba Square? Apa Maciam? Some more, Monday dancers have to choose between Rhumba or Disco Rock?

  21. Hi Catherine

What you saw at the line dance session is not called “Square Rumba”, is just that they are executing certain Rumba steps in the line dance formation. Square Rumba is an Afro-Cuban dance, an imitative of the ballroom dance.
Square Runba is also a more simple form of Rumba in contrast with Latin Rumba. There are not many variations, if you want to compare with Latin Rumba. Square Rumba is more straight forward case, with forward, backward, side to side steps, half-turn and full-turn, with three-count. Wheras the Latin Rumba is more flexible in steps, with the count of 2-3-4 + 1, and
you have to execute a lot of hand movements and body movements. If you do not have a good body movement, the dance of Latin Rumba will not be appealing. If anyone wish to dance Latin Rumba, please do learn the simple square rumba first, before attempting the more intricate Latin Rumba.

    HAPPY DANCING…….

    RONLAI

  22. Dear Dan

It is now 1 hour to midnite. 2moro is suppose to be the 1st lesson for Monday class and you have yet to finalise the type of dance. This is extremely bad planning. Having a lot of choices is not necessary a good thing.

Since you’ve already have an overflow ofs participants (above 10 is already very good), stick with Square Rumba for both Mon and Wed. When both groups are learning the same thing, they can help each other out during the jamming sessions.

Those who opt out like Bessie, Jane and me – its bcos we already know square rumba. After 4 weeks when you folks move on to latin rumba, we will certainly join in.

As for those who have not learnt square rumba but want to opt out, I urge you to re-consider. It will be fun if we can all go jamming sessions together.

  23. Hi Dan, I am seeing you have a slight headache. But, I guess a little headache is good for the body and soul. Sorry, I quite useless on this subject.

    Terence Seah

  24. Dear Bessie, Jane, Lily, n Cat,

I understand your decision to consider pulling out as all of you have some form of Rumba learning before.

My mistake for not specifying the level of Rumba class Jeffrey is conducting. From the post I have stated that the first four week Jeffrey will touch on the basis or square Rumba, follow by another four weeks on latin Rumba.

I have received feedbacks regarding the Rumba(basic) class on Monday. Some of them claims that it such a waste to have the same types of dance on two days of the week. Disco Rock was only an option. Rumba (basic) will remain for Monday and Wednesday based on the majority votes. Don’t let your imagination run wild!

Rene, don’t have to get frantic! I did put up Latin Rumba on the post, and only amended it after consulting with Jeffrey. Please try to understand that many of us are only beginners at Rumba!

Dennis, hope you got some answers.

Lily/Ron Lai, appreciate your clarifications on the various forms of Latin American dances.

  25. Hi Dan..

I am totally lost abt dancing terms, whether square rumba is for square ppl like me or latin rumba for hip pple…im definately in! in!…
hhhmmm..tats good thing abt newbies…anything also boleh lah..rite Dolly?..

Thank you Dan for organising, even at times its
    really agonising

  26. Dear Terence, thanks for that very encouraging words!

Maybe i just trying to do too much. What will happen if one day I have no more hair to count!

Why am i getting all this ‘lasso round my neck’.

Aiyoh, now I dare not start the Chess Club that Dennishar suggesting, lagi habis!!

  27. Danz Dan,

Salute to your patience as an Agonizer and the stress that you have to shoulder.

On a serious note, my frantic is not totally due to your changes in the dancing arrangement, the major constant changes comes from my work over weekend.

I am still in :) but dun know :( should go on Monday which confirms Square Rhumba? Otherwise, I have to switch back to Wednesday again.

    Rene

  28. Hi guys

Its time 2 gv our gd fren, Dan a break. I believe he has done his best n deserve more encourging words n support than going 4 head banging n pulling leh.

  29. Dear Lily and Ron Lai,

Thanks for the helpful information on the ‘rumba’ dance. Now that I know the difference I should really start with the square rumba first and then progress with latin version later on.

Okie dokie monday dance class, here I come…..

  30. Dear All,

Farrer Park MRT station at 6.50pm at Control station. If you wish to walk together or not sure of the location of CSC, feel free to meet me there.

If you wish to set off on your own, use EXIT B. Tessensohn Road is on the left, walk forward, approx. less than 10mins. Opposite CSC clubhouse is the Spore Buddhist Federation.

  31. Danz Dan

You are always on my mind – A little MCK but very patient which honestly, I can’t measure up to you.

Thank you for all your time to try to arrange and compromise everybody’s timing, interest and preferences.

Dun bang anymore or else, I feel very guilty.

    Rene :)

  32. Dan, Christina & all Monday dancers,

I will not be at Tonite’s 1st lesson as I have registered with Scorebot on the Auto Forex trading seminar.

This week, I will attend the Wednesday class instead. The following weeks’ lesson shall be back to Monday.

Please inform the instructor on my behalf and same for Oi Cheng too.

    Cheers
    Rene

  33. Dan..

You hv done a very good job..well done!..at least so many participants, in fact an overwhelming response

I know u r trying yr best to fit in everyone, the instructor & ‘students’
Its not easy to be EO especially when u get ‘hit’…so kesian! we r all behind to support yr effort & at the end of day..we all wanna danz & be happy & hv fun

  34. Dear Dan,

Thanks a lot for all the hard work that you have put in to enable us to enjoy. Regardless of any chances, I will support you all the way. Please don’t give up, Ok!
Sorry, i have to miss my class today because im still not fully recovered yet.

    Cheers2!
    veronique

  35. today at the start of the Square Rumba class we have full turnup except for Veron, Rene, Dee Ang and Oi Cheng. I have Jeffrey permission for you to atttend the Wednesday session.

CSC at Tessensohn has a slightly smaller room. The warmness was felt throughout as Jeffrey with his three assistant, Molly, Maryann n Ivy helps ud with the dance step.

Angela, we miss you at the dance session. You may still come on Wednesday to observe.

Yew Kwong, Nor, thanks again for your support!

  36. Cudnt wait for Wednesday..rhumba! rhumba! cha cha cha!
will sure very noisy..looking at all the wed’s students!..haha

by now..today’s class habis oredi..so, boys & girls , u all had fun?

  37. FYI, parking outside of CSC is free after 5pm. If you are unable to get lots on the road, go into the smaller private houses and there are more parking lots. Parking inside CSC is per entry after 6pm.

  38. Dan, in his usual politeness only said this “The warmness was felt throughout….. ”

The uncouth tim will say what he liked but didnt : Abstain, refrain whatever from eating garlic, onion etc which will let out gas upon digestion………surely, even if dancers dont mind the intermittent silent drum breaking the timing, the small warm room wont want anything that will make breathing less than easy………..

  39. Today we have seven dancers who withdrew. Some, because they have learn the basic before, some feels that the premises is not up to par.

Please understand that a lot of compromises has been made. Those who have doubts are mostly those who are drivers.

Besides bringing the cost down and having longer hour and finding a venue near an MRT, it seems not everyone are satisfied.

I am not sure whether we can find another ideal venue since Jeffrey has paid deposits for the present venue.

Let try to accept the present situation and concentrate on learning the dance.

If cost is not a factor, next venue that we settle for, I assure that all of you will not be dissapointed.

One thing I can say is, Jeffrey and his assitants are devoted to teach us. We can also expect quite a few jams session that he is organising.

  40. Thanks Jane for the encouragement.

Dear dancers, look out for good news tomorrow. We may secure a bigger premises with parquet floorings and all rounded mirror.

We are here to please, so keep your finger crossed!!

  41. “……a bigger premises with parquet floorings and all rounded mirror. We are here to please, ”

Hahahaha, seems like a phrase taken out of a flyer handed out at Geylang, Keong Saik Rd……..but they dont cross their fingers, they cross their legs.

Sure, I’ll keep more than my fingers crossed; in fact, finding it difficult to sit on now………..

  42. DanH, you’re one soft-spoken gentle guy whose company I enjoy so for you I hv just sacrificed myself……..

See, only few privileged gals got to see my butt but you’ll hv it for the danz……..I will let you hang a full size pic of my butt over yr thighs so that yr partners will get to enjoy the sight of butts and be spoilt for choices, which will also serve as a shield in case you get excited, marikita and salute.

Might not be able to join you & folks for badminton if Terence’s CBC hangout is on………

  43. Last night, we have full turnout for the dance class. Most of us have come to term with the premises.

Jeffrey got more assistants to help us. We have eight guys on hands to assist the gals.

From now on no observers are allowed in the dance class!

Jeffrey will also be conducting coaching on Disco Rock, Ballroom waltz or any other dances.

Same venue. Timing: 9.00pm to 10.30pm Monday (Disco Rock) n Wednesday (Ballroom Waltz).

Open to existing dancers only at $10.00 per session session. If not enough response, personal coaching is also at the same rate.

  44. Dear dancers,

Coming Monday (December 24) being Christmas’s eve and following Monday (December 31st)no dance classes.

Make-up classes extended to a further two Monday.

  45. Our Rhumba classes for Monday and Wednesday night have ended.

We are not going into latin Rumba but have decided on Disco rock lesson which have just started.

The Monday class have three new guys intending to sign up. Michael n Robin have done so, and we are waiting for Edward to say yes soon.

Every last Sunday we have ‘Jams n Butter’ session at Kembangan CC. All are welcome to join in at $10.00 for 6 Sundays. Timing 7.00pm-10.00pm.

When Disco Rock lessons ended, look out for Samba or Merinque or Social waltz class.

  46. Dan…u mean this wednesday no more classes oredi ah?..how come we not told last wk?or was i dreaming of Chiangmai..hehe
I wan the jams&butter..lagi sedap than yakun toast rite?..so how do i register pls…this sunday is last sunday…can start?
kakis wanna go or not?shall we danz :)

Helo Molly, may i join yr danz class at Kembangan..wat r u all learning rite now?..any new classes
btw Dan, if u gonna start new class…pls find ‘proper’ dance floor boleh?..not like Tessonsohn Rd lah…u know what i mean…

  47. Nor,

Disco Rock on Wednesday night still ongoing! Jams open to all. Register yourselves at the premises on Sunday.

We are hoping to get better dance studio for the new dances. Just keep your fingers crossed!

Class will start hopefully after the Chinese New Year! Boleh ta?

  48. Hi Nor,

At Kebangaan we are now doing the R&R and our lesson will end in January. The new class will commence sometime after CNY but they have not decided on the next dance.
Apa macham you shiok already gelak gelak. But must gather all the guys to go for butter and jam for more practice. Once a week class with no jam is insufficient lor.

  49. Molly,

I have lost track of the number of dance groups. I just imagine everybody is having a great time keeping healthy. Do you have an estimate of the number of SHC dancers who are actively joining you for dancing?

I am falling behind, although secretly learning rock and roll, and hoping to be acceptable enough for the D&D.

    Terence Seah

  50. Hi Terence,

The ongoing dance class that Danz had organised on Mon and Wed held at Civil Service Club total 30 ppl already. A very very healthy figure. But the number of ppl that goes for jam session is a handful only. Probably it is due to weekday and they are not able to make it.

  51. At some point in our lives, we danz. So if Terence actually picked his recent buys at basement prices, he’ll danz sooner than in 3 years time.

Likewise, ah loong son who sleeps for 49 nits btwn rombs at cck cemetry finally hit the jackpot, he dances.

So Terence potentially you hv 4,000 minus 1 dancers, almost yr entire membership.

I aint danzing at the moment, rather dicing with smthg as challenging as defying death. Yes, you’ll hv 4k dancers if I emerge victorious………………

  52. Yes lah Molly…
I dinno dance is so shiok!…another form of exercise..i shud hv proper danz lessons long time ago,but never too late eh?

On the boys…thot Yew Kwong ‘promise’ he wud learn?..maybe he more free after CNY..rite YK :)

Calling other guys ..don only invest invest…money is always no enough..too much also susah!put yr computer aside…lets danz!
wonder how Terence gaze at the mirror learning his R&R..hhhmmm
