Siew Hoon – Profile

Hi

Actually heard of the SHC sometime ago but only realise how active it is recently.  Therefore am joining to have more interactions with my peers and to enjoy an impending retirement (hopefully not too long in the future) with the various activites the Club has.

Currently working in a consumer company selling photographic products, besides swimming, power walks, cycling, reading and travelling, I also play mahjong, scrabble and am taking up bridge lessons.  Am also a social, 9-hole golfer, playing aimlessly for years but more for some social interaction, and exercise and as an added activity for overseas trips rather than serious golf.   Can see many more things which I would like to do but like any working adult, time is always a deterrent.

Anyway am looking very much forward to my first activity with the Club, ie cycling to Penggerang on 12 April.  See you all.

  1. Hi Siew Hoon

Where I play, I’m given a handicap for a beginner. There’s no test or certificate. That’s the beauty of golf here. So the way to lower your handicap is to improve and play more.

  2. Hi Joan

Thanks. Have only played in Malsia, Thailand and Indonesia (Batam) all the cheap courses but now not so cheap with buggy fees, caddy fees… Would certainly love to play in Perth if time permits, hopefully with other SHCians. Will keep in touch but note I have no handicap, I depend on others to give me one when I play!

    Cheers

  3. Hi Siew Hoon

If you are interested in overseas golf, join me in Perth. I ook up the game when I came over and though Iim more into social golf rather than serious because of my standard of golf, I am playing regularly, twice a week with some senior ladies over here.
Besides the lovely weather and good company, it’s also relatively cheap to play here.
Let me know if you like to come over one day to play in Perth

    Regards
    Joan

  4. Am sure Ronald Wie means well. Never thought of distance, muscle cramps, etc, but now a bit shaky shaky leh…(joking)

Its ok, will stick with Suzhang as I am maybe 10km per hour rider?? Thanks Suzhang.

Worst come to worst, I stop and wait for you guys on your return.

Thanks everyone for your concern, I already feel safe and confident coming for the trip, however it may turn out……..

    Cheers

  5. Stay natural and cool, you won’t be alone, Siew Hoon, even in Msia our friendly neighbour also once a member of the Federation.

We are not going for cycling speed competition. Just bring along some water and energy snacks just in case of needs.

  6. RonaldW, you’ve frightened Siew Hoon… with all your 1stly… to lastly lah.
This one call warmth welcome meh?

Siew Hoon, don’t worry… I am also slow, so we can cycle together ya.

  7. Hi Siew Hoon

Were you the one who shared about 11 phases of a human life in 44 Chinese characters in another thread?

A meaningful and purposeful life embraces life-long learning, significance and sharing.

See you on 12 April if not tomorrow.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

  8. Hi Andrew

Not truly bi-lingual, still a long way to go. Would love to join the Chinese classes one day. Struggling to write Chinese on the PC. No end to learning…

No, I am in the West so would be familiar with West Coast Park, Telok Blangah, Alexandra areas…

    Cheers

  9. Hi thanks to all for their encouragement.

To Lydia, no am not from TKGS, just a common name….

To Susan, never thought if I can complete it, just assuming that since we are tog, somehow or rather we just have to complete it, barring unforseen circumstances…

To Ronald, thanks for the advice. I have cycled from East Coast F2 to Changi Village but with couple of stops. Regret this Sat unable. I presume we will have some stops along the way to give our bums a rest? Anyway we are SilverHairs so should act like one to qualify as a member right ha ha, ie slow and steady. I am really slow so hope everyone will just bear with me.

Timing no problem, usually have weekly walks with my friends and we start at 6.45 am. We must have walked almost all of Singapore connectors but surely there will be more to come to explore.

Golf, ya should play with some of you sometime maybe for short overseas trips but due to my standard or lack of it, I only play with non-serious golfers. Usually tee off at 6.45 am at Green Fairways (in the darks yes as we want first tee off) maybe that’s why never play well because its dark! Good excuses…

So timing should be ok, and the distance, to be known on 12 April but will find sometime to ‘practise’ a bit.

Anyway just got to brave myself up and look forward to this first activity with the SHC.
