  1. Hi Roland,

    I doubt anyone is envious or frustrated with the sex imbalance in some of our activities. My thinking, after these years, is that the sex imbalance is not unexpected by both sexes, but that I feel we should encourage more men to participate, as we stroll into our SilverHairs years.

    I hope I am not giving the impression that maybe an all men’s night is the solution. In fact, I am doing it purposely so that we can plan future activities with some of our new observations and feedback.

    On your suggestion, why not give your idea a try. You never know until you try it.

    But, let us carry on with the Men’s night, and we see if we can enjoy the evening – men only.

    So go ahead, and try your idea out.

  2. I doubt if the presence or absence of members of the opposite sex is a significant factor to most SHCians decision to skip or attend SHC events. Some people prefer events when both sexes are represented, a few may not. Personally, I have never liked any event that suggests exclusiveness.

    So the ladies out-number the guys. I don’t see any problem with that. What will we be concerning ourselves with next – the absence of baldies? :o)

    Let’s think aloud. I have been wondering what is a Mixed Double night? I think I can understand Mixed night or doubles night. But, what is mixed double?

    In your mind, how do we organise a Mixed Double night? How does it work?

    Sure, if it is possible, let’s do it. But, got to understand what is it first.

    Since there were sighs that insufficient men were attending the events, I was just suggesting a “Mixed Double Night”. Ask any sportsman or sports lady and they will tell you the meaning of a “Mixed Double”

    It is the content and substance of an event that will draw quality men and ladies of meaning and purpose.

    Good fruit will attract good companions.

    The wise Chinese saying : ????,???? – the influence of good and bad companionship.

    A wise person will ignore or avoid any smart alec; barking dog seldom bites except barks like a strayed.

    So, content, meaning and purpose play the key part.

    Last Sat, I attended two AGMs : at the ICPAS it was packed with almost 400 of us, balance between both sexes. Also my school alumnus AGM, well balanced and represented.

    This afternoon at YZJ AGM, also well balanced, few hundreds. 3 persons asked sensible and intelligent questions, and received deep and thoughtful answers.

    The bottom-line : content, meaning and purpose and the composition of quality persons.

    SHC to encourage mixed doubles like married couples, well meaning couples.

    I think there is no need to call me a donkey. Stubborn as I have always been, this is an insult to me. I am trying to understand the concept of Mixed Doubles, so that we can have new exciting events; but I dont seem to get very far with the clarifications so far.

    So on this Saturday morning, I repeat, please don’t call me or anyone a donkey, or else I have to call fairy god mother and zap both of you into something.

    Fr Roland comment#5, I interprete ‘mixed double’ as 1 gal n 1 guy, so if this is e case, to join the MD nite event, it should be SCH wife n husband, SHC bf n gf, and the SHC ‘singled’ gal n guy come as a pair…..

    hahaha… YK, Terence, DanH JohnH and the other ‘singled’ guy …. u all would hv gd biz men, we the ‘singled’ gal if would like to join hv to quickly book a place from u guys le … hope we gals would not fight until ‘ba loo ku’ all over the head (joking la, gals)… hehe

    Terence, if gals come to u and ask ‘may I ‘… think ur kapala would also turn big le.. FCFS maybe is ur solution….. hehehe

    and after the event… will there be gosssssips or not…. well I noe … ‘gossip will be ended with wise ppl’, translate fr chinese

    And, one thing for sure, if there is such MD event, I must by hook or by crook to enrol myself, bcos I can become a ‘quality person’…. hehehe

  18. Knn Terence, you dunno so I used animals to explain. It isnt as simple as “mixed” which is a male & a female but “mixed double” which envisages the male lavishing a huge appetite, expecting the female to bring another female and so makesa double (very humsup here).

    Ok you dont want donkey, let’s have homosapien (or homo if you like) then….. a humsup preacher asking the witch to bring a sorceress with her. Heee, like that huh, not only yr fairy mother must come……your godmother too. And it’ll the battle of the good vs the virtuous bad.

    We had one “informal” K-ok last month from 4pm to 10pm at the CSC.
