Tennis in May

Hi, Tennis Enthusiasts,

The tennis fraternity is GROWING, especially Group 2 (i.e. those who can play fairly well) Now we have 10 Group1 members and 10 Group 2 members. As I’ve said before, it is difficult if you are a beginner and you lay off for 2 weeks and try to play after that. Many of the beginners can now testify to that and I’m sure the advanced players will also agree.

So Andrew Kuan has kindly offered to book EVERY Saturday in May for practices. However, I’m only available on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays which I had promised to come and help.

There are already signs of improvement among the beginners as well as the intermediate players who have come regularly. Keep it up! The reward is yours for a life-time!

Tennis For SHCians

Future Tennis Sessions

As the interest seems to have dwindled, I’ve decided to have it on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month, from 5.00 pm – 7.00 pm. Lessons for beginners are FREE! Please confirm your participation for the next tennis session on the 24th April, 2008.

Bira, Rene, Andrew, Aileen, Janet, Margaret, Evelyn, Elaine, Ron, Alice, Robert and Kristy,

Thanks for the wonderful Birthday Cake and Sumptuous Dinner. These may be little things but they mean a tremendous lot to me in my "sunset years". I shall ALWAYS remember your kind gesture in celebrating my birthday and I shall treasure them till I’m gone from this Good Earth. It’s a pity that the regulars could not come for the tennis or the fellowship.

Roland HH Tong – Profile

Hi! I’m Roland and though I joined the SHC in 2005, I’ve not been able to participate in the activities due to clashes with my numerous other activities. However, last month I joined the "Dance Group" thinking that it was a social activity but to my surprise it turned out to be "a social dance course"! Anyway, the group of people were so pleasant and friendly that I decided to join them and even enrol a new member as well!

My resume! I’m a retired school teacher, old in age but still "young at heart"! I’m gregarious by nature and enjoy all kinds of outdoor and indoor activities. I play tennis, table tennis, badminton, billiard, (hockey, basketball and soccer in my younger days), chess, scrabble, etc. My hobbies are photography, philately and numismatics. However, tennis is my forte as I’ve represented both Malaysia and Singapore although I played State Soccer as a school boy. I love dancing although my bones are now beginning to "creak"! I had to learn dancing while studying in UK during the "ragging period" and went often to the Ballrooms there.

I’m currently busy with part-time tuition in Maths and Science to keep my brains working and to earn some income to maintain my car (It’s NOT easy maintaining a car in Singapore!)
