  1. Hi Danzing Dan,

Your course fees for Paso Doble & Line Dance for Members and Non-Members have been reversed. Believe should be the other way round. Members pay lesser, Non-members pay more.

How about some more Gingko Nuts? Hee…

  2. Dolly, for your information.

Paso Doble is a representation of a Bullfight where traditionally the male dancer takes on the role of the Matador (the bullfighter) and the partner takes on the role of his cape

Paso Doble, like Samba, is a progressive International Latin dance.

Because of its inherently choreographed tradition, ballroom Paso Doble for the most part danced only competitively, almost never socially.

Very difficult dance with lots of posing and styling.

  3. Ya lor Dolly. In my opinion, it would be much better to pick up more patterns of the social dances that you have been learning instead of jumping from one type of dance to another. Eventually, it will be like being “A Jack of all trades and master of none”.After the beginners’ stage, you should at least progress to the intermediate, never mind about the advanced stage.
Paso Doble is a difficult dance, especially with the timing and the ‘breaks’ in between poses. It’s like the Tango. Someone I know who dances the tango very well once told me that if the timing and poses are not properly learnt, the couple can look “very cartoon”, hehe. Same for Paso Doble.

I make an xception tis time 4 Wed n support ur leadership. Pls register me 4 Basic Rock &Roll n Cha Cha class.

Does member/non-member status refers 2 PAssion card holder? TQ.

  5. Mary,

Thanks for the clear explanations! I realized it not easy to learn Paso Doble, just a class being put up by Maggie.

    Yew Kwong,

How wonderful to have you a guy to signed up, any more honey to attract the bees. All the aspiring gals dancers will sit up!

Boon Liang, Douglas, Harry, Charles, are you coming?

Yes, Passion Card holder enjoyed the concession!

  6. Harnor harnor, Mary, tis stop n go routine oso headache 4 me.. coupled wif turning neck here n there oso afraid neck kena twisted lor… :)

Yipee, YK, you finally going 4 d class liao.. goody goody..

  7. Dolly, Stop and go routine as in Rock n Roll? Why do you have to turn your head ‘here and there’? Hee hee. Just turn head naturally mah.
You sound so glad YK is going for class, haha.

  8. “Paso Doble is a………Bullfight where……..the male takes on the role of the bullfighter and the partner takes on the role of his cape. Paso Doble….is…. progressive……….”

For $60, I will hv 10 tryst with dressed-up cows also paying $60 each to be walloped. Food prices are soaring in the current inflation and so the CCs must have seen the need that to pamper us the breadwinners with some kind of bam-n-slam sessions to unwind & de-stress. While the fun goes to us the macho matadors, still I cant find the heart to call it progressive…………

“…….and ‘breaks’ in between….”. No problem, btwn the torso and the head, we break; btwn the thigh and the foot, we can also break……..break until we shiok, you lagi shiok.

Now, wonder what the female chauvinists hv got to say here?

  9. Aiyo, Mary, I meant Paso la.. u said mah, like samba lor, saw 1, Lily and Jonathan danced tis b4. vry susah 1 lor.

U r rite, continue wif current social dancing 1st.. 6-steps wif variations oredi sbh 2 remember liao. let alone new routine rite..

Si mah, wif YK going 4 class, we hv another SHC male partner mah.. tio bo?

  10. Terences

I think this is the 2nd time u ask this question about “Maggie Ho. She is the Dance Instructor.

    *** Yew Kwong

Surprised to see your name in the registration list.

    **** Dolly

Missed your Hokkien English so much la – comments more ok

    Karen

  11. Terence,

Maggie Ho is not a registered member. We decided to attend her on-going class due to the fact that we could not get enough dancers to signed up’

So far her teaching is good and the fees are pretty low.

  12. Here is a hobby pursued by many but here also lies a quandary bcos the teacher doesnt happen to be so old to be a SHCian or if she’s old enough, may not desire to be one yet.

    So………………………….?

I’ll say “why not?”. Yes, why not let the activity organiser – a SHCian – enlist an outside help who is proficient bcos she’s a professional?

For SHC to be progressive and its activities exciting, vibrant abd varied, it’s not always possible to rely on self-help. From time to time, some exception may have to be made. To my mind, so long as all relevant detials and info are disclosed fully – in the case of a learning course, the fee, the instructor, the venue, the duration etc, with vested intersts (if any) declared, SHCians will be able to weigh all and make their own decision.

Stretch the argument a little further and Hans Cafe wd never have played host to our many successful gatherings the happy memories of which are still fresh and lingering in us.

  13. Hi Dan, Karen, Tim,

I think there is no doubt that many of our activities require the assistance of non-members. And, we have always subscribe to this argument, to make activities successful.

The name “Maggie Ho” has been promoted and mentioned 5x on this forum. Please do not promote the names of non-SHC members on this forum.

Nevertheless, I think this is good debate. So, I look forward to hearing your feedback.

    Terence Seah

  14. Hi Terence,

Sorry. I have not realize that Maggie’s name is case sensitive, thought you have mentioned it before. I shall be discreet to leave it out in future reference.

The last issue I had with you was the credential of a dance coach, this time a non-member, though an essential instructor!

I have just email Maggie to join us as a member and waiting for her response.

    Danz

  15. Terence,

Dan did try to get her to sign up but I could sensed she was not keen at all.

I feel it does not make sense to ask someone to register knowing she is not going to participate in any of the SHC events/activities. It only adds to the number and nothing else. Your objective is not be met.

My opinion is that if a member is attending a certain course, it is alright for him/her to put up the post to invite others to join him/her. This way, the post will not seem to be an advertisement a for third party.

  16. Terence,
I oso agreed wif OiCheng. From what I noe, Maggie is too tied up wif giving dancing lessons and I seriously doubt dat she will have d tx attending any SHC activities. Aft all, most of us attended her classes mainly cos her course fees are much cheaper den others.

  17. Hi All

Sori, got 2 disappoint u guys. M withdrawing since tis particular item gets sensitive. Think I will b more happy 2 stick 2 disco dance until then.

  18. Hi Yew Kwong,

Don’t worry lah! We will get you sooner or later, right Dolly?
Just one of those thing, don’t give up.

We got umpteen years ahead to fulfill our wish and desire.
