Adding photos of authors of Post

Hi Terence

Just a suggestion.  Just wondering whether it will help to put photographs (small tiny one) next to the names of the people who contribute to the posts.  I feel that if they have the openness to write comments and tarok/compliment each other, they would not mind having their photos on the website? I could be wrong of course.

This thot crossed my mind coz being a very inactive member as I don’t join all the activities but if I do, I have great difficulty knowing who’s who

  1. Aiyo, Maggie, fotos can be vry deceiving la.. so u must try 2 attend all SHC activities whenever possible lor..

Moreover, I am not sure whether r u refering to only author of their respective post or inclusive of those have their comts written here lor.. :)

  2. The smallest of fotos has to be taken when one is the smallest………I dont hv any baby foto of myself and even if I hv, that fella looks very different fr this fella after 52 years so how?

  3. Let me reply Dolly – I know you all foto shy la (not that I am not) but let me explain my train of thought on this. Firstly I am not as active as you guys and ladies – dancing, biking, trips, etc and on the rare occassion that I join u guys, I look like blur like sotong and also pai seh dunno so many people. So thought of virtual ‘getting to know you’ la.
But as I said, I won’t take offence if nobody likes my suggestion:-) Also, I thought this would make people think twice before posting any ‘unwanted’ comment before they get recognised and ham tam by the ladies (mostly) when they meet as I have read a few posts about ‘not sure whether I met you, etc’.

Tim – ask YK to help you lor to minimise your foto. You heard of extreme makeover?:D

  4. Hi Maggie #5,

I have always felt it is a great idea to have the photo of the author, so it would be easy to recognise who’s who. Somehow, this idea never did take off. If you like to have your picture against your post or comment, I would suggest you create a web link, and put this link into your user account. When someone wants to know more about you, he/she just clicks the link. Try it, as this will encourage others to do likewise, anytime.

  5. Hi Terence
Thanks for the encouragement. Perhaps YK can teach me how to do the link and I can start the ball rolling. Of course it will be a makeover foto la..erase all the mrt lines..haha

  6. From the front page I can only recognise Gingko and Bira. Can anybody identify the rest of the charming ladies?

How about getting the people featured on 1st page to agree to their names being posted next to the picture?

Ref #5 Maggie Teo For Tim extreme makeover akin to plastic surgery must includes dimples(get rid of cynical outlook on life) than I can squeeze his cheeks (all types)everytime I see him as punishment for ragging and mentally molesting some of the ladies in the forum(esp MJ)

  7. Hi YK
That was fast but when I click on the link, it did lead to your foto but too much other info/links which are not necessary? The size of your foto looks fine. If you can just link to a photo without all the rest, I think it might work.
Of course, again, this is up to the authors and commentors who wishes to have their fotos on the website. This is a free country, the last I heard…:-)

  8. Hi Maggie

Just trying it out. Its always the case wif free hosting. 2 many ads n unwanted stuff will get into way. Many mths bck only the photo will be displayed wif no interference n photo size is larger. I guess they oso need revenue 2 sustain operation lor. Will explore other websites.

  9. Maggie, an extreme makeover it was. Some years ago when I sent in my foto, what came out was a monkey. Till today i dunno how that cd have happened..I mean an ugly me I can accept but whay a monkey?

Patrick-K, after climbing down from yr high chair of a relationship counsellor, you now want to be ladies’ apple polisher huh? Heee, be careful hor, they will grow apple on yr head which the almighty must have cleared for this purpose?

YK, I clicked yr link and fell off my chair when I saw the same foto seen last nite and this morning, respectfully displayed at the void deck where many people sat around…..

  10. Tim, u sure that was an extreme makeover and not your natural look?? you must be looking at a wrong mirror all the years la…Did you say ‘mirror mirror on the wall, who’s that good looking monkey on the wall or twitch your nose and lo and behold…monkey see monkey do?
Oh boy, with that kind of comments to YK, you’re discouraging the ladies to post their fotos leh…be kind, can or not?

  11. yes, Celia-W, I cant agree with you more than Maggie has ticks but with L=bird around ticks and lice can do her no harm.

Btw, every monkey looks the same so I cant be too far away from the best looking monkey, or the worst looking.

  12. Well. Patrick, that monkey was me and you know that. But do you recall why I covered my eyes? Yes, I told you that you had long past the age of urinating in the drain but you wont listen. For that Maggie was so embarrassed she refused to see you again………

  13. Dear Chairman Terence,

Isn’t time to change the photo on front page? people getting ‘sien’ to observe the same for so long alrdy.
BTW, there are so many pics of ‘suay ge’ (like Tim,Sengh etc..) and ‘mei ni’ to display.

  14. ref#17

Alamak…! Tim you can’t even recognise yourself huh??
That was me kekeke…ing uncontrollably coz of the air pollution here caused by you(laughing gas).

  15. Bira, why are you so modest when you carry all the good looks the Maker so privilege you with. I am quite happy that SHC carries my foto if and only if Birs poses with me, I in singlet, and the voluptuous she, in her name but without the “i”…

  16. Hi MaggieT,

I doubt you have forgotten about this post which you wrote. I am keen to take this further with you, as I believe you see the benefits of being able to recognise another SHCian online.

I am thinking of making you the contact point where members can contact you if they would like their “own choice” photograph, linked to their profile. But only for those who love to. So,when a Post or comment is written, you can click on the Post, and the picture will appear.

At least, I know three persons who love to have their photos everywhere. For starters, we got you, TimL, Yew Kwong, PatrickL and me.

If you are still interested, please raise your hand.

  17. Hi TSeah

Wow, you’re persistent. I thought this has been dead and buried in Alaska 100ft under the snow but you chose to resurrect it…haha

I still think it is a good idea as we’re not getting younger and our memories don’t serve us well as it used to. However, I would like to take it one step further ie have people send in their photos, not more than 5 to 10yr old photo!(old and new members, of course with their consent and keep it in a database where only registered members can access. This will still keep their membership private and confidential.

‘Old’ members may object but pls think in terms of new members wanting to get to know as many people as possible and this may speed the process of recognition. It may not happen at SHC gatherings or events. The meeting of members may happen anywhere – holidays, food court, cinemas, hdb estates, bus, trains and you suddenly see a familiar face maybe virtual but you recognise him/her.

So let me know when where and the how to start this going. I am IT literate not IT savvy..still need some coaching, so pls bring your henchman (IT guy) along. We can meet over a cuppa !!

  18. A further thought on the same subject. Perhaps allow the photo submitted to be deleted or updated at the discretion of the individual himself/herself, at any point of time, without need for administrator’s approval. This is the case in many public website, like Facebook, etc.
In this way, i think the response by our members towards submitting personal photos would be much better.

  19. Hi MaggieT,

Yes, I shall go over with you sometime this Feb. Will contact you on a separate email. Unfortunately, the SilverHairsclub.com website is a moderated website. For a start, only one photo will be allowed.

Other photos may be published if the participant is present during monthly gatherings.

I take it as you say yes to handling this part of the job.
