Neo Sock Cheng – Profile

Hi all,

Am a newbie to the Club (thanks to BBCat) and look forward to join the fellow club members in some of the activities.

I am a CPA but now working only on part-time basis (enough of the high stress JOB so now taking things easy) I also teach Line Dancing in the CCs and that is my only form of excersing for now emoticon.

I have just taken up a new hobby in Basic Photpgraphy in Jun and still learning the ropes…….any felllow photography enthusiats out there looking for kakis to go for photo shoot?

I enjoy the outdoor activities like fishing, camping, cycling( have not been on a bike for many years and will be keen to pick this up again) . Did stained glass, pan clay, macrame, cross sttich embroidery and beading in the past too but now eye sight not as good liao sigh emoticon.

Enjoy the occasional MJ game too but not a good player, will sing a few lines at karaoke and Oh yes I live to eat emoticon and will never say no especially to seafood …….. yummy yum yum

Would love to attend the 15 Oct member’s get together but I have an evening class to teach so will be a bit tough to make it on time…..will try to see if I can re-schedule my work hours to go to the 3.00pm session.

Looking forward to be part of the SHC and hope I can do my (small) to help/serve in any way.

Cheers

  1. Hi Seok Cheng aka Sockie,

Welcome to the Club where life begins at fourty-five! You do know how to enjoy life with the many interesting hobbies and pastimes.

Photography, interesting we may round up more members to come together. Patrick Lee is an avid photographer, must rope him in.

What kind of camping have you been to. The last time Terence try to organize one, but ended with him alone camping at the east coast beach.

Our coming Bintan beach resort trip meet with low responses! Like I said, if we have 10 pax we will all go to enjoy the sun, sea and the rolling beach and of course fishing!

  2. Sock Cheng, Sockie, Sookie, Socks or whatever, so you’re a CPA huh? Me also leh………I, Cart Pushing ahpek. Lucky you, cd call it quits. I start my push it day at 5 a.m. and bullshit all the way into the evenings, seeing little of the sun other than during the 1/2 hour lunch break.

(Heee, for those who really think that Sookie is a Cart Pushing Ahsor, no lah. Membership in the Association of Certified Public Accountants qualifies the holder to practise accountancy and set up an auditor firm in Spore if she’s a Spore CPA. But of cos it’s not a breach of membership to also moonlight as the other CPA).

Well, Sookie, you have come to join us so Welcome to SHC !

  3. Hi Sock Cheng

Welcome on board. Like u , I love those crafts that u mentioned on your posting.

ANy macrame book to share or not ??? I love macrame and cant buy the book on line.

Those table-top design book are from USA and I cant seem to buy it on line.

I love to make the table-top hanger that hang from ceiling .

One day, we can meet and share the same hobby.

    See u at Kovan gathering.

  4. Hi Sock Cheng,
Welcome to the club. Noted that you’ve taken photography as your new hobby recently. I was an avid photography buff many years ago. However, till date, I’m still a candid snapshot photographer with not much improvement in shooting skills. My only small ‘achievement’ with my cameras were winning some prizes a couple of times when I participated in candid photo contests organised by The Straits Times and Stomp. I’m certain we’ll have much to talk about this subject. So I’ll leave the stories until we meet one day.

Fishing was one of my hobbies too. I was a fanatic angler who spends at least three days a week at the Tampines fishing pond more than 10 years ago. Was hooked by the thrill of landing a catch(seabass), you see. Would like to pick up my fishing rods again if there are kakis willing to idle away their precious time at a man-made fishing pond with no guarantee of a bite the whole day(sometimes).

See that you have a penchant for good food.  Well, you will find many food lovers here too. As for me, I’m a direct opposite of you when comes to food. I EAT to SURVIVE ,  hee..hee… Kia-Si leh. So, don’t think you’ll see much of me, if any, in most of the makan sessions being organised here.
There’s a Karaoke session coming up on Oct 25th. The event is organised by Karen Thio. Do join in the fun if you have the time, okay.

Hope to see ya soon …

    Dan Ref 1,
Thanks for the brief introduction. :)

  5. Hi Sock Cheng
Welcome! I’m pretty new but have found the club to be mighty fun! Diverse interest & people!

There’s a cycling club that does a once a month cycling usually @ ECP. (check the shc calendar) I’ve been twice: once long dist with Douglas & the other a shorter one with Lily. Both times were great fun.

  6. Hi All,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Even though we have not had the chance to meet yet, I already can feel the warm of your friendship from all your responses and I surely look forward to meeting all of you in person soon.

Dan and Patrick, I would love to pick your brains on photography skills kekekekek as I just started on this new hobby only in June after m trip to Vietnam with a group of photograpy enthisiats. As for camping…this was way back when I was much much younger but am still able to brave it out in tents again (minus the sand files though)

Fishing……I am not s serious angler, don;t even know how to cast the line (blush, blush) but I have the patient to sit and hold on to a hand reel waiting for the thrill of feeling the pull at the end of the line, maybe one day I will go sit with you guys by the pond …will bring my camera too so if we get bored you all can be my models ;0)and if you land a catch my camera will be ready too

Karen, I did marcame many years back and did some pot holders and bags. I remembered I did have some books on this but after having moved house a few times things get misplaced here and there. Will try to do some digging and see if I can still find some of them. Would be nice to pick up the craft again, maybe we will talk more when we meet ya.

Am also keen to get back on the bicycle but think I would need to wear a ‘L’ plate or the orange tri-angle thingy at the back of the bicycle…remembered when I first learned to cycle (some 20 odd years ago), I fell into a drain with my bicycle…still have the scar to prove it OUCH…so next time I make sure I steer clear of all drains ;0)

Last but not least, a big thanks Tim for the clarication on the CPA bit…….but I did at one stage thought of gettting into the Cart Pushing biz but then hor I was no good at bullshitting so the idea died…maybe if I can learn a few BS skill from you, who knows I may consider doing some moonligthing but dun worry lah I will make sure I do not compete directly with you LOL

Hope to see all of you at the get together…will have to wake up early and go to office then can scoot off in the afternoon.

    Sockie

  7. Welcome to the Club, Sockie.

As for photography, Ron Koh is a very keen photography, and he takes extremely nice nature shots. I’m new in photography too, and have recently developed a keen interest. There are lots of photograhpers too. (Dan, perhaps you can organise a photography session?)

    Cheers, Lydia.

  8. Sockie

Will be nice to share some of your craft books. I am trying to buy some soft string/thread to type some macrame design on one side of a “classic” singlet top .. still looking for the thread…any recommendation ???

Hope to meet up with u soon.

I am currently teaching at Cheng San, Yio CHu Kang, Toa Payoh Cental and Kovan CCs. Classes are small and me small potato huh no do jam lah. Used to do mini jams at Grassroots Club in the past but had since given up as most of my students are not very keen to go jam except for a small group. Hi Lydia @ Ref 8,

Looking forward to meet you and our ‘Tai-Kor’ Ron Koh. Sure we can learn a lot from him.

  12. Sockie

I learnt Macrame b4 I got married… I couldnt find the thread I want in singapore and I cant even buy it on line.

  16. Hi Doreen

I teach on Thursday morning at Kovan CC. It’s an inter-mediate class and we are taking things slowly in the class, practically stress-free and there are only 10 ppl in the class right now. Do feel free to drop any time to take a look see look see.

Shirley is also teaching in Kovan but her class is on Saturday’s at 3.30pm, think she is short of students now, so you might want to check with her too.

BTW you can e-mail me directly to sockie_sg@hotmail.com too and if you are on Live ot Yahoo MSN you can add me to your contact and we can chat more on pmchak chak stuff.

    Cheers

  19. “In school we were ‘told’that KK stand for zheng yi mah so good lor and CC framed Yueh Fei so baddie lor…..…so do we fight or agree to disagree huh? ……..another ‘fight’and Terence would need more panadols kekekekek”

Sockie, thanks for giving us this opportunity to discuss a bit of Chinese history.

Kwan Kong and his sworn bros Liu Bei and Zhang Fei adopted “fairer” war tactics, and, supported by the respected/admired Zhuge Liang (Kong Ming), they were perceived as the good guys.

In contrast, Chao Chow was ruthless and was so suspicious of people that he ordered the execution of Wa Tuo (reputedly the best of ancient Chinese physicians) who treated him for acute tao hong. Fact that even his own children plotted the removal of each other to be in the line of succession, culminating in the “7 bu gan ker” (one son ordereed his brother to answer a question correctly witthin 7 strides otherwise he wd be killed) spoke poorly of the man. Thus, history invariably remembers him as a baddie, forgetting how masterful a statesman he was.

Btw, CC and Yue Fei lived almost a thousand years part. CC triumphed in the 3 kingdoms struggle whilst YF was a Soong dynsaty general. It was Chin Kui who cajoled the Soong emperor to recall YF from the frontiers where he was guarding the Chinese turf from the Xiong Nu (or babarians).

Without YF, the Soong dynasty quickly came to an end and it was the Mongolian Jenghis Khan who started the first “foreign” rule of Chinese Middle Kingdom with the Yuan Dynasty.

Fight? Again? Hehe, truth is, I can se in yr eyes of desire that you wanna hug me under the guise of a fight, right?

    Hehe.

  20. Waaahhhhh so paiseh lei, got my CHinese history all mixed up…..but hor at 5am in the morning think I can be excused…tiok bo Ah Tim kor but I can’t help laughing at when I see the big boo-boo I made…..wonder if I should dig a hole and bury my head in there or be brave and face the fact that I goofed.

Can’t be an ostrich all my life soooo……….I shall beg for forgiveness for my mistake ….. I ren su liao …..but I think hor you are the one hoping for a hug kekekekek

Anyway glad to see that YK had agreed to stay on SHC and hope the guys can shake hands…..think maybe too much to ask them to hug or kiss ya ;0)…..and make up too

Hope now…. the rain over and sky clear (better not use pinyin and cause another embrassment ;0)

BTW next time if you conduct Chinese history class hor count me in….better brush up and know my stuff first before trying to be a smart Aleck….lucky you so gentle in handling my lack of knowledge muah muah
