Mahjong Game

Hi SHCians

I am sure there are many among us who enjoy this game.  It is recommended by doctors to senior citizens as this game stimulates the brain cells and thus delay the onset of diseases such as dementia and other age related illnesses.  If we can have a pool of interested members, then we can have a weekly sesssion among ourselves. Stakes are not important as the main aim is to enjoy the game and socialise.

Waiting for responses.

Have a nice day & see you all on Tuesday 16 Nov 2008.

Regards

Roy Koh

    Good Evening to all……..

I think most of the season/experienced players have their own regular Ka kees and will be bored playing with players who are inexperienced especially if the stake is so small, bdw, how much is 1 double if 5 doubles is S$6.40?

At the moment my Beginners group plays only when there is a gathering with some ‘Si Fu’ guiding us. How about combining this activity with another SHC indoor activity than perhaps we can gather more interest to form two tables, one for the Experienced and the other Inexperience?

I can play on a Monday or a Friday only. Where are u at Jane?My email fredalim@starhub.net.sg.

  10. Hi,
My apologies..must have “missed” typing in the email address. See if this works???

I am very new to the group. I have yet to have the courage to come up and meet all of you. Each time I visit the website I will look-out for activities that I love and enjoy (dancing, running, cycling) Mahjong caught my attention and would be looking forward to enjoy and have fun. Not to worry..my stakes are 20cents/40cents and I play for the sake of passing time and making new friends. So don’t miss me out can?

  11. Hi Angeline,

    Welcome to the SHC!

I also love to play mahjong as a pastime. Dancing, cycling & walk are some of the activities I will look out for. My stake is even smaller, less than 20 cts. OK with you?

    My email is susantan06@yahoo.com

I will be in Chiangmai for 10 days.

Keep in touch with you when I am back.

    cheers

I have already compiled a list of 10/20 cents category players,20/40 cents(up to 50cents/$1 but at half price) and the 50cents/$1 (full price)category. If any of you would like to get a list of contacts/emails of these players in the category that u are interested in pls drop me an email at insiders111@yahoo.com.sg
At present there are hosts for the 10/20cents category in Kembangan and Pasir Ris and Serangoon area. For the 20/40cents category there are hosts in the Clementi area and Hougang area and for the 50cents/$1 category in the Ang Mo Kio area.Roy if u have the latest update u can exchange the hp nbrs with me provided if u have their permission or they can reach me directly as I was the original author of the 1st MJ post.
For your information it has been agreed among the players that the 10/20 cents category shud interprete as this rate for no dblb(we do not play a no dblb game…so 1 dblb is 20/40 cents, 2 dblb is 40/80 cents ,3 dblb is 80cents/$1.60,
4 dblb is $1.60/$3.20 and 5 dblb is $3.20/$6.40.The 20/40 cents will have the 5 dblb limit as $6.40/$12.80 and the 50cents/$1 5 dblb limit as $16/$32.
There are some members among us who have portable sets or can loan spare tables if required. When agreed before hand we sometimes play a flat $1 increase for up to 10 dblb(individually u can agree at limit of or 6-8 dblbs as u wish among yourselves).Perhaps we can have a joint session at the next bungalow/chalet party in December.Anybody has a company bungalow for rent?

  14. Hi Patrick,

    How about “Peng Wu” ?
    How do you monetize this?
    Some classified as three doubles,
    some played as pre-agreed
    $3/$6(thrower) or $4/$8 .

    Just curious to know :)
    Cheers.

  15. Usually peng wu is classified as 4 DBLBs.If mutually agrreeable some of them who play 50cents/$1 may agree before hand to collect $10/$20 instead of $16/$32 but rather rare nowadays. If playing 10 cents/20 cents shud than be $$1.60/$3.20 and 20 cents/40 cents shud collect $3.20/$6.40.

    Hope this helps.

  16. Hi Good Morning SHCians
I have got good responses to my post particularly e-mails sent by Patrick Khoo and I am looking forward to have a game with him and other kakis.
Just to update those who are not too sure of the stakes and some commom aspects of the game.

    Doubles

    0 20/40cts 30/60 50/$1
    1 40/80 60/1.20 $1/2
    2 80 /1.60 1.20/2.40 $2/4
    3 1/60/3.20 2.40/4.80 $4/8
    4 3.20/6.40 4.80/9.60 $8/16
    5 6.40/12.80 9.60/19.20 $16/32
    6(optional) $32/64
    Peng Wu 1.60/3.20 4.80/9.60 10/20 or 16/32
    Kong 30/60 50/1.00 1/2
    Full colour – 4 doubles
    1/2 colour – 2 doubles
Green Dragon – Limit(max doubles played)
    Tong-What-pack- a set of 3’s(same as above)
    (Red-Green-White)
    all sets of 3’s – 2 doubles
all sets of series – 1 double
    Thrower pays double to winner.
Winner pulls winning card- all pays double.

Beginners/new players usually start at 20/40cts and gradually move up the stakes ladder. I think it’s a normal progression of the game and not a case of gambling per se.
Seasoned players will understand what I mean.
As I said, I am really for a game of 30/60 anytime with fellow SHCians. It’s all for the fun and relaxation. So anyone able to host please contact me through my e-mail and I can contact you by phone and get going.
Cheers and have a great weekend.

    Regards
    Roy Koh

  17. I like mahjong as it is a interesting, and skillful game. I feel there is no point to play big as there is big win there is big loss.Playing mahjong is just to get the fun but not to take pain. I like play small starting with 20cts
    stake and max 5 double.
I am living aroud Eunos and would like to play at week end. Regards
    Freddie Liew

  19. To all friends, I have more times recently to do the commuications. I like mahchong, waltz, chacha, and karaok for leisures. I am now learning playing saxophone too.I would like to kill time with friends of common interest.
    My email address : liewck13@hotmail.com
To Angeline Kong, Thanks for your response. I have sent you a email and hope you notice it. Thanks

  20. Thank the founders of SHC.I have just started my 1st activity,
MJ game. We played with small stake. It’s very enjoying. I feel we should remember the founders initiative that the aim
of gathering is to enjoy the fun,joy and friendship. So we should not punish those who are beginners of the mj game unless the sequence of pulling cards has been disrupted. For example, noticing them when they have to ‘bao’ 5 double, and allowing their slow ‘move’ of calling to ‘pong’, to ‘game’ etc. Why let things to undermine the root of the said initiative! Cheer.

  21. Terence,Recently I have had a few games of mj,very enjoying.I
support this game and hope it could be popularized among SHC’s
members. I am thinking to conduct voluntarily a systematic and basic mj lessons for beginners, which would help them make fast decision in throwing cards so that the game can move fluently and becomes more interesting. If there is a group of minimum 4 persons interested and can provide a place, then we can start soon. my email address (liewck13@hotmail.com )
Terence, your opinion and approval !
    Let me introduce myself :

  22. Hi FreddieL #30,

All events organised by SilverHairs do not need my approval. It’s all workable as long as you have the Red-Bull energy and creativity to follow through. This includes Mahjong.

If you have a mahjong training session, write a new Post and encourage participation. Avoid asking members to write to your personal email, as the event will suddenly stop and all communication gets isolated. Use the SMS kakis group and come for the monthly gatherings. This is where other members get to know you, and vice versa.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah
