Feel free to share with us what you are doing or have done today

It’s nice that Chinese New Year has arrived.  The weather is holding, warm and dry.  When you get a chance to peep into the SHC website, do write a few lines and tell us what you are doing.  Keep writing and share your traditional excitements with us.  And, refresh your browser.

  1. Well, let me do some writing. I just arrived from Bangkok; and tonight, I shall have my reunion dinner with my brothers, sisters, niece and nephews. When I came back, I ask my maid what’s for dinner. And she said “steamboat”. She proudly showed me a basket of crabs, counted it and found one missing. Well, we are still searhing the place, it must be hiding some where.

  2. Hi Terence,

My apologies to you and Abel! I got so caught up with the Karimum trip that i assume that it was my post.

I think I know the reason for this lapse. Last night after reunion dinner with my sister and her boyfriend and my younger brother I went up to Brokeback mountain to meet a Chess master.

At $5.00 and game I have initially lost 9 games. Each games lasted for about half and hour! We started at 9.30pm last night and when I managed to recoup my losses to 5 games it was already 9.30am!

Well, I gave the reason for my loss due to the fact I went to climb Bukit Timah Hill that morning and therfore was quite tired. Sound incredible?

Last year this time I was playing mahjong from New Year Eve to the third day of New Year. Those were the days of reckless abandonment and this year it is a marathon chess session!

Came back to sleep only for two hours and was awaken by ‘fire-crackers’! That how I spend my New Year and the cause of my forgetfulness!

  3. Hi Terence
A Happy Lunar New Year to you. I hope you have found your missing crab.

Just back from my niece’s home.

Went to my second sister’s place for lunch. Had chap chye, loh ark, fried rice, bi hoon etc.

Then it was off to her daughter’s home for dinner.
Had chicken rice, veggies and lots of other food. Ate too much burp! burp!

Now, I am enjoying a glass of Bailey’s Cream in the safety of my own home. At least if I made a fool of myself, there will be no witness.

Tomorrow is another round of feasting.

    Yum Seng everyone!

  4. Good morning everyone & Gong Xi Fa Cai!

I saluted my 84 yrs old (going to 85 ) mother, who has to prepare 2 big pot of “stewed sea cucumber pork ribs” and her yummy fried “chicken wings”, “ngor hiang: & “popiah” beside the sumptuous “steamboat for all us. Oh mine…….all in all, about 38 of us, (including 1 great grand son & 2 great grand daughters). My 86 yrs old poor father was recovering well from his complicated (small & large intestine bleeding), could only eat porridge, but he was very happy to see all of us enjoying our “steam boat”. It was very noisy with all brothers & sisters exchanging their views of their business in the “Niu” year. For me, the only one working for government, have nothing to brag about making lots of money on doing business, was happy to talk to all my nephews & nieces whom are in the same boat. Due to my siblings’ busy schedule, every year on the 1st day of CNY……this is the only time we met beside my parent birthdays. After a long day at my parent house, I am tired but less worry because my father is back to his normal self and more mobile now. Before retiring to bed, my son asked me to give him two pcs of $50 dollar in exchange of the fifty pcs of $2 dollar he received from the “angpow”. Usually I gave out more $$$ “angpow” than my son received be’cos I only got one son…heheheeeeee …….Today 2nd day of CNY, will be at my hubby’s only sister & relative house for another sumptuous meal. Looks like CNY is all about eating & eating….not forgetting our SHC coming CNY lunch this Saturday….Cheers!

    Ah Nee :)

  5. Hi All,

    A Happy “Niu” Year !

May the “Niu” Year brings Happiness and Good Health to all SHcians.

Yesterday went for one round of visiting.

I will be going to my mom’s house for lunch later. My eldest brother residing in Perth is back for CNY. They will be leaving for Perth tomorrow , so today with the rest of my siblings, nieces and nephews we are going to have a rowdy & sumputous lunch which my “ta jie” catered.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Warmest regards and best wishes

  6. Hi Terence/others,

It was v. good of you to start the ball rolling. This is a v. meaningful post for such an OX spicious event.

Last Fri, CNY eve I had reunion dinner with my brother’s family at the Dragon Phoenix Ballroom. It looks more of a wedding dinner than usual. 50 tables of customers started eating at 5.30pm while the other larger grp including us had to wait for the earlier grp to dismiss and the tables cleared for our turn to eat, started eating at 8.30 PM onwards.

As the amount of salmon slices in the Lo Hei was little in the Lo Hei, my niece’s hubby decided tobuy and bring along another big plate of fresh raw salmon slices and a plate of raw cuttlefish and song hock fish slices to add into the Lo Hei being served and ask for extra sauce to supplement the lo hei.

It was quite FUN when everyone was shouting. A Caucasian sitting next to our table was V. amused at this strange celebrn of feast and continue to video tape.

The menu includes lo hei, sharks fin, roasted chicken, drunken prawns, fried song hock fish, herbal wild abalon with ginseng soup,lo hong chai, their famous v.crispy yam pot and hon tau sar with lotus seeds. Mo tak theng.

Now, I had to rush off to pay my brother a CNY visit.
For dinner tonight , we had steam boat and another round of Lo Hei again.

    Yam Seng !

    Best regards,
    Steven Chan
