Patrick Chan – Profile

Hello Everyone,

Just a brief profile to introduce myself, having joined some months ago.

The Stars-in-Concert was my first attendance which I  thoroughly enjoyed and got to meet some nice people too.  I was warmly welcomed by Ms Susan Chan (at the door) and other members like Ms Lily Ho including Mr Terence Seah, the man who started it all.

I find the SHC a great platform for fellowship, free to choose activities and most interestingly a very vibrant forum posting community.  E.g. I enjoy reading the hilarious lines and wisecracks of Mr Tim Liu who got me into stitches at times.

Like some of you, I am a ‘baby boomer’ (those born between l947 – l957) now retired from active business after having been involved in the Retail, F & B , Entertainment & Logistic industries for sometime.

My current social interests involved supporting the grass root activities of community clubs, charity shows, concert hosting, stage managing and emceeing (MC) of events.

Also, just for the kicks and to entertain myself (and friends) I formed a 5-piece Pop band where I’d sing and play the electric guitar.  Playing with the guitar was my first love affair – at age 14.  Now, me and my band ( Pat & Patricians) would ‘rock it up’ once a week in our own Music studio at a community club.

We play a genre of songs and guitar instrumental hits ‘down memory lane’ of the 60s, 70s & 80s.

I  love to play hits from the likes of The Beatles, CCR, Bee Gees, Rollin Stones, Deep Purple, Scorpion, Eagles, Bread, Doobie Brothers, Simon & Gar, Eric Clapton, John Denver, Rod Stewart, shakin Steven, Boney M, Carpenters,  Cliff Richard & Shadows, Jumping Jewels and of course the King of Rock n Roll – Elvis Presley & more !

At times, I get invited to play and sing at entertainment pubs, charity shows, members club, cc, concerts  and other social events.

Its a wonderful and splendid feeling if you sing from your heart or hear songs that you once so cherished.  Its like ‘yesterday’ once more.  Personally, I find it very therapeutic.

So,  if any fellow members who’d like to sing, play the guitar (keyboard/drum), dance (rock n roll, disco rock, chacha, rhumba, waltz, country line etc) or just want to relax and ‘gelek gelek’ –  you ‘re most welcome to join me in my ‘musical jam’ down memory lane.

Meawhile, here’s wishing all SHC folks a Rollin Good Time ahead.

Regards,

Pat Chan

Please do provide us diehards dancers where actually you jam and lot of us would luv to join you in the fun. Our D&D is round the corner, we hope you and your bsnd could entertain us, how dat’s?

  3. Welcome aboard, Pat!

Your profile is well written with detailed info on how you would usually spend your quality time helping out with Grassroots, and hosting concerts etc. At SHC, there’s never a ‘dull moment’, you will find most activities that suit your interest and I’m sure where dancing is concerned, you are most welcomed by us female dancers,as we are in the midst of ‘recruiting’ more male dancers too!!

You’ve attended the SIC and will be attending the ‘Soo Kee Lunch’, as well as the forthcoming D & D,that’s indeed a good start of your active participation, Pat.

    Will see you around sometime….

    Cheerio!
    Sue

  4. Hi Patrick

Very interesting life you are leading.

Terence/Dolly, you have a worthy candidate here to organise our next SIC.

Hope that you will let me sing with your band sometime when you have your jam session. Singing is my most favourite past time (besides baking and cooking lah).

    Cheers!

    Caroline Gee

  5. Hi Patrick,

Welcome to SHC. Good that you finally posted your profile, so we can get to know you better. Join us for cycling/blading, badminton or MJ, or golf too now that you have more time.
Still finding the right friday to take up your invitation to listen to you guys jamming and having a good time.

    Cheers

  6. Hi Dolly,

Thanks for your response. I am with The Tanglin Community Club at the junction of Dunearn/Whitley Rd just opposite of the Raffles Town Club.

There’s no charge, no gst, no coe, just come as you are and we will have fun.

    Hi Dan (Ah Ko),

Nice to hear from you, I am looking forward to meet you and the rest at the coming lunch. I’ll arrange a suitable day for you and all members interested to come for a session of fun in jaming, singing, dancing and merrymaking.

Usually, I jam on Friday from 6-10pm. Our music studio can accomodate about 30-40 people with space for dancing too. There’s also ample free car parking.

Hi Caroline, – glad to hear you love singing too. Sure, you ‘re most welcome to sing with us. Perhaps, we can duet together, you take the high pitch and I take the low pitch, can ?

    Hey Ronald Wie,

Thanks your welcome and invitation to your games which I shall try to join you sometime, perhaps golf. Meanwhile, I know you play the guitar very well, so come and rock with us. You got my number, call when you feel like coming.

    Cheers !

    Pat Chan

  7. Hi Susan Chan,

Many thanks for your welcome and good words. I look forward to joining your dancing group. How about you singing with us ? Yes ?. C u soon. Regards

  8. Hi Patrick,
Welcome to SHC…glad to read your profile …i’ve yet to meet you but do hope that i’m able to jam with u and the others one day for a “rolling good time” down the memory lane as i love music and oldies too..

    Till then, Keep smiling ….

  9. Patrick-C, am glad that my musings have amused you enough for a mention in yr profile. Btw, we go by first names.

I hv had a weary day at negotiation which will resume tomorrow so must now find some time to free my mind……

Some names bring on a frown for the Mandarin speaking. So Fabian is one such name to avoid even if yone is what the name says of him – “fei” and “bien” i.e. fat and flat. Surely, one doesnt need to be reminded each time someone calls his name.

Similarly, I feel difficult to reconcile with the name Annie Ho as my gf. See if I am asked who I spend my Valentine Day with, it doesnt seem very right if I say “with Annie Ho”…..say it a few times and you’ll know what I mean.

Since time immemorial, gals are known to carry handbags and other bags, and this is understandable. But this fad seems to have caught on with guys. Whether they’re heading to work, for games, to the zoo or to be screwed, many carry haversacks. Since they dont “come” every month, they must be carrying the napkins for their wives, gfs and mothers. No quarrel on that but what irks me is, these bags are some huge that they squeeze many out of public transport during rush hours. So 1 day, I quietly glued a picture of osama on one of these bags, adding the phrase “Hello, I am hiding in here”.

  10. Hi Clara,

Thank you. You’re most welcome to join us for a ‘rollin good time’. So we shall arrange; my email, top.win.win@hotmail.com

    Hello Tim,

Ha ha, I’ve not met you but I know you’re best in your element, quick on the draw and like shooting ducks and chickens. Anyway, thanks for your response.

I think in any social gathering (like ours), we need ‘live-wire’ and jokers to mash up the potato. Looks to me like you are one in the pack; well done and keep it up.

You said, “I hv a weary day at negotiation which will resume tomorrow so must find some time to free my mind…”

This is self-induced Stress, so how about coming over to my session to sing, dance or just ‘let loose’ ? This is an anti-stress art form. I believe I can play any song you choose to sing; jazz standards, blues or rock (whatever).

By the way, if Osama is hiding in the haversack, where is Mas Salamat ?

    Cheers !

    Pat Chan

  11. Hi Pat Chan,

Last month, Susan Chan introduced you to me at Star-in-Concert during refreshment time. I found you very cheerful and likable person. Later, you were sitting alone, next to me in the Auditorium.

But those days of your sitting alone are over in SHC. After you had posted your profile, you have become a celebrity in SHC.

I would like to join in your musical jam soon. I can neither sing nor play guitar. But I can groove to some extent, some of the dances, you mentioned.

    Francis

  12. Hello Francis,

    Nice to hear from you.

I can see that you are a passionate dancer and in fact you were on stage at the SIC dancing away like you were on Broadway. So come over and do your strut.

We can start off by doing Cowboy cha cha for your line dancing pleasure.

    Cheers !

    Pat Chan

  13. Hi June

Went there tonight. Had a wonderful time. Pat can sing and play the guitar. Everyone was so spontaneous and friendly.

Thanks Ah Koh, for the enjoyable evening.

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  14. Hi Caroline,

You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed our musical session.

By the way, you sang well, got rhythm, timing and flair for showmanship. Well done and keep it up.

    Rgds, Pat Chan

  15. Dear Pat,

Firstly I must thank you for your very warm welcome and remembering my name when I peeped into the room where you were having your jam session. It was my very first visit to that little room in the basement. I must say you all look like you were having fun, singer wannabes included.

Secondly, my apologies for not returning to join in the fun after my dinner at the cafe because I received a call from Susan C that she was going to be at our meeting place for some dancing earlier than arranged. I therefore had to proceed on my way.

I shall join you another time together with some of my SHC friends, meanwhile carry on grooving! Thats the way….a-ha-a- ha we like it………

    Regards
    CatherineY

  16. Hi Pat,

Thanks Pat for the warm welcome to us all and the chance to sing with your band with a lineup of 5 professional guitarist, 2 drummers ( or more) and an organist playing with 2 keyboards. The sound system and equipment is comparable to any pub if not better, with an electric bass guitar that sounds really good. The band can play almost any song and is game to try anything, really a fun group of musician professional enough for any function, maybe the end of year SHC countdown party, etc ???

So now we now we to have fun on Friday evenings, Thanks Pat once again.

    Cheers
    Cheers

  17. Dear Catherine,

I was so surprised to see you and glad that you came by despite having a busy dancing schedule.

Yes, do drop by with your friends on any Fridays (when you’re not dancing) and join us for some musical fun and grooving. Next time, you sing with us too.

    Cheers,

    Hi Ronald Wie,

Thanks for coming by and your compliments re our band, sound system and equipment.

You sang the two songs (Words & Don’t 4get to remember) by Bee Gees beautifully as if we have had rehearsals before. You’re obviously an experienced singer, songwriter and composer all roll-in one. So, the next time we sing, harmonize and rock together.

SHC Countdown Party ?? – why not ?. You call the shot and I shall swing into it.

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

  18. Hi Pat Chan,

We have not met, but I can see that your repertoire of English oldies is impressive. Would like to know if you also play Chinese oldies (from Teresa Teng’s era, 1970 – 1990).

    cheers,

“Play it again, Sam” – Casablanca, 1942.

  19. Yes Jassmine Teo, we can play some Chinese songs (Theresa Teng’s etc), mostly the popular ones but we’re not good at it as we’re basically an English pop-band.

Having said that, we can still play any Chinese song if you have the score sheet (123..do re me) or if not, we go by musical pitching of the singer’s voicing to find the right key (note). Thereafter we try to flow with the melody of the song.

Not perfect, but thats the best way when we’re ask to handle ‘on-the-spot’ singing requests.

So come over and try it out. There’s no charge, gst whatsoever unlike some Chinese bands where they charge singers or wannabis a fee for providing live band music to their singing.

Jasmine, just come as you are, hopefully without a big stack of score sheets otherwise I get ‘peng sun’ (faint) ha ha.

    Regards,

    Pat Chan

  20. Hi Pat Chan

It’s great that you’re able to improvise for Chinese songs. Would like to see how you do it. Can share some tips on improvisation?

Tks for the invite. Will most probably go this coming Fri, about 7p.m. with some Chinese song sheets/books (with scores and guitar chords).

If there’s a last-minute cancellation of your jam session, please alert me. TQ.

    Looking forward to nostalgia..

    Cheers

  21. Hi Jasmine,

Good. so we see you this Friday. Bring a few of your score sheets in triplicates. By the way, what instrument you can play?

    cheers.

    Pat Chan

  22. Hi Patrick Chan…if let’s say a group of 20 SHCians come by on a Friday nite to enjoy your music, would that be ok? Can your little room in the basement (quote Cat Yeo :-))) accomodate?

  23. Hi Pat Chan @# 23
I have an academic interest in the subject …and in numerous other subjects.

Now I have a DIFFICULT decision to make – which few Chinese songs shall I pick from more than 100 beautiful melodies..hmm… in triplicates somemore…really shang-1 nao-3 jin-1.

OK, let me go and agonize over it for a few days.

    cheers,

  24. Hi June Lim,

Thanks for your interest to come by with a group of 20 Shcians which I welcome.

The only problem is the studio which can accomodate about 30 people comfortably. However, I already have about 20 existing friends who come regularly to have fun. So if there is going to be bigger crowd, I have to make separate arrangements like having it on 2 different days or get a bigger studio/halls which we have in this cc.

Until then, may I suggest you just come casually with a few friends and have a feel of the ambience first. Hope to see you.

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

    Pat Chan

  25. “Now I have a DIFFICULT decision to make ………really shang-1 nao-3 jin-1.”

    “The only problem is………”

Quite unusual that one after another and in the same thread, we have 2 persons caught in a diwlama……oops, not supposed to use cantonese and “dilemma” it really is.

    But arent these happy problems?

If no one comes, we ask why no one come leh? If 1 too many come, it becomes how come so many come leh? Likewise, wont I be glad to have 100 songs to choose to sing than the same old song I sang from when I came as a baby botak head to when i leave as an ah pek botak head…….even Baa Baa Black Sheep wd hv turned snow white.

  26. Hey Tim,

Ha ha, good to hear from you again.

Come over lah… we can relive that old song ‘baa baa black sheep’ once more, like yesterday when you came without anything on and ‘botak’ too.

Like a circus, we need a Ring Master like you to complete our clowning act.

    Cheers,

  27. Patrick Chan
What an impressive resume! You sing, you dance, you play music, you host, you manage the stage, you also ‘grassroot’……wah..
Why are there so many Patricks? One can get really mixed up as to which is who.
Can I come and watch and listen too? Would be fun to hear Tim’s rendition of ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’, hee.
May I know where this place is?

  28. Hi Mary,

You’re most welcome to join in the fun and see if you like it.

We’re at Tanglin Community Club, the junction of Whitley/Dunearn Road just opposite the Raffles Town Club. If you need further info, just email me: pop.inn@hotmail.com

    See you soon,

    Pat Chan

  29. Patrick Chan
    Thanks for the invitation.
This must be the ‘jam’ that Dolly mentioned to me the other day at the cycling meet. I had no idea then that an SHC member was performing there.
I will try to be there if I can find somebody to go with.
    Cheers

  30. Aiyo, Mary, I was mentioning that I will go this Fri to Tanglin CC to recee if this plc can b catered for our jam dance sessions lor.. But no jam this Friday at Tanglin CC hor.. Dolly

  31. Dolly.
I’m very blur leh. So, Patrick Chan’s ‘jam’ and your ‘jam’ are different right? One is strawberry and the other blueberry? Hee hee. Anyway, I will go and look see look see lor, if I can find my way there. Perhaps we will run into each other and jam a little too.

  32. Sure, Pat-Chan, if time is on my side will make the date at your jam session but will skip the futile effort of bra-ing the black sheep…instead will do Humpty Dumpty. Its lyrics are more classic & remind us of his sitting on his ball, that he has a great ball….and since Mary was bra-ing so loudly, will make Humsuptyty wear her bra, and it has to be the black one…….

Talking abt Mary-C, why is she so obsessed with blue and straw berries when in truth, they dont have any? Look closer and you can see that in one, there’re 2 cherries turning blue and in the other, hang 2 marbles by the straw………

  33. Hi Florence Ho,

I remembered that name. They were the pioneers who brought in top foreign acts and shows long before anyone else. Why this name ?

  34. Hi Patrick Chan,

I would like to join your music jam this Friday at the Tanglin Community Club. Can you please tell me the nearest MRT and the direction to reach the Club from there. Is it okay to reach there by 7.15 p.m. as it will take me some time to reach there from my working place ?

    Thanks

    Bernie

  35. Hi Bernie Chung,

    Welcome, welcome.

The nearest mrt is Newton from where you can find a bus that goes up Bukit Timah Rd and drop at the spot where the former ‘Hotel Equatorial’ was (now gone). This is the traffic junction of Whitley/Dunearn & Stevens road where the cc is just a walking distance.

Take your time, we shall wait for you.

    Cheers,

  36. Well,Tim.
I am looking forward to Humsuptyty aka Humsuptimtim come in a black bra! THAT would make my day indeed, hahaha.
Oh and don’t forget the matching black lace undies. What a sight that will be!

  37. Hi Pat,

SORRY, this welcome note is a little in coming .. A VERY WARM welcome to SHC.

Yea, let’s twist again … like we did last summer … come on .. baby.. let’s do the twist…

    Cheers, L.

  38. Hi Lydia Chin,

    Many thanks for your welcome.

Yes, ‘like we did last summer’, I hope you can also join us in the musical jam and merrymaking

    Regards,

    Pat Chan

  39. Patrick Chan.
Thank you and your gang for your hospitality. The camaraderie was great! I enjoyed your music very much.

I haven’t sung for a long time, in fact, since my earlier teaching days and my attempt yesterday was a surprise even to me. I thought I had lost my ability to sing! Perhaps it was the gingseng slices that I had been sucking the past few days. I will definitely get myself some more of that.

Thank you once again for a great evening of song, music and dance.

  40. Hi Mary Chan,

We’re happy to see you and glad that you enjoyed the evening of fun and music.

Your rendition of that song was good, keeping good tempo and timing. So you certainly have the abilities to sing, the key to proficiency (like everything else) is of course doing it in regularity. Do come by whenever you feel like it.

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

  41. Hi Patrick,

I enjoyed very much singing at your band music jam on Friday night. Wow ! That was the 1st time I sang with 5 electric guitarists playing, drums and key board.

Thanks and I will return again for more fun and singing.

    Cheers

    Bernie

  42. Hi Patrick

Interesting to read your profile, full of life and interest of varied activities to keep you going in your silver years. This is what I’ll call a truely enjoyable lifestyle as what SHCians should adopt. What is better than music to make the world go round.

As what I read that you are jamming every Friday at Tanglin CC, My spouse Alice and I would love to join you at time, but I can only lend you my voice or play the the simple maracas to accompany you to the tune of the music of the yesteryears, which are our favourite.

    RON n ALICE LAI

  43. Hi Ron & Alice Lai,

    ‘Lai, Lai, Lai’ (come,come,come)

Don’t worry about your singing abilities, we can start off by singing this nursery rhyme together with the audience in 3/4 beat:-

“The more we get together, together, together.
The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

Cause your friends are my friends, and my friends are your friends.

The more we get together, together, together.
The more we get together, the merrier we’ll be.”

I don’t know who composed this tune, but the lyrics and melody are so beautiful that children across the nation are singing it.

Indeed, I feel this tune should be adopted by SHC to be our signature song. Well, that’s a calling for the President and interested members to consider.

Ron & Alice, for now lets rediscover ourselves, our childhood/kid instinct (deep in our heart) by singing it together in a grouping. I assure you, it’s therapeutic !

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

  44. Hi Patrick Ah Kor

So nice to have such a talented Ah Kor in our midst.

Thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining performance put up by your band and the impromptu singers from the audience last Friday night.

Wishing Pat and Patricians more electric Friday nights…

    Joy

  45. Hi Joy,

Nice to hear your nice words.

I noticed that your partner (the other Ah-Kor) Dan Huang was so carried away when he sang ‘your cheating heart’ that he almost ‘rock-up’ this country classic. Dan, good sign that you are still rockin n rollin. Next time you sing, ‘will you still love me tommorrow’. Ok ?

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

  46. Hello,

I just like to thank the following SHC folks for coming by yesterday, for an evening of rollin good time in singing, dancing and merrymaking:-

Clara Chay, Lydia, Bernie, Lina, Ah Nee, Bira, Susan Chang, Annie, Ron & Alice Lai, Charles Wee, Chin Boon, John and others whose names I could not recall.

They were all joined in fellowship by my other regular friends and visitors.

A few were indeed good singers, while some were singing with a ‘live’ band for the first time ( 2nd time for Bernie) and yet a few could not get enough. One lost her voice after singing 2 Chinese songs. I would recommend chewing a few slices of ginseng (any quality) for quick relief).

Whatever the persuasion, it’s all about having fun and be happy – to keep our good adrenalin pumping within and staying young.

So our musical jamboree goes on…. as they say, if ‘music is the food of love, play on’

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan

  47. Hi Mr Patrick

Wow! by the way I see the compliments given to you..you are indeed an “All Rounder”…semua boleh. I hope one day when I’m free, I could pop in to listen to your band. I’ve never tried singing with live band b4. If Ron Lai says he handle the maracas then I kepo2 also lah play tambourine for you can? ha..ha. Bdway can your band play Malay songs too?

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  48. Hi Hamidah Ishak,

    Nice to hear from you.

Yes, we can play some Malay songs usually the popular ones like ‘Madu dan rachun, Sari nandi, Sayang sayang’ and others. No worries, you just come and I am sure we can do something for you.

Btw, if you have not sang with a ‘live band’ before I would encourage you to give it a try with my band. I am happy to give our SHC members a chance at ‘stardom’ or simply for the fun and experience of it.

Unlike karaoke, singing with a ‘live’ band gives you a new feel and dimension in your singing style. You have more room for expression. Everyone has a different style of singing and a few SHC members were amazed to discover their hidden singing talent in this way.

Also, when you are confident and ready, I can have you onstage to sing along with us at functions that we perform from time to time. I hope you are encouraged to add this wholesome activity to your list.

Just for information, my next open musical jam session is on this coming Saturday (21 Mar, 6-10pm) and not on the usual Friday as I have to cater for an ensemble from NUS. Thereafter, we resume on Fridays as usual.

    Cheers.

    Pat Chan

  49. Hello Patrick….So sad…the other names u couldn’t recall are…Sock Cheng, Sarah and JuneLim. :-)))
Btw, folks out there who hven’t been to Patrick’s jam…let u in on this……Patrick has a POWER voice!!! :-)))

  50. Hi June Lim,

Many thanks for the names I couldn’t recall as they were so many of you. Now, for the rest of my life, I will remember….”Sock Cheng, Sarah and June Lim”.

We were glad to have you and all your SHC friends who were so fantastic and spontaneous, in making our musical session very much alive and vibrant.

When we sang the song, ‘I just want to dance with you’ (cowboy cha cha), the impromptu line dancing led by Lydia makes me feel like dancing too. Happy that we have some fun together.

    Cheers.

    Pat Chan

  51. Hi Patrick

Thanks a lot for your encouragement. I would definitely want to give it a try after I have settled with my hse removal. To sing with live band one need to remember the lyrics by hard right?

Sorry I may be mistaken with different Patrick, were you the guy wearing red shirt who spoke to me abt singing with live band during Stars In Concert event at Serangoon Gdn Cty Club? Will you be attending SHC D&D on 4th Apr?

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  52. Hi Hamidah,

You got good memory. Yes, I was wearing my red shirt when I spoke to you during the break. I think you gave me your name card too. The card tells me that you like to teach line dancing, if I remember correctly.

You don’t need to remember the lyrics when you sing with us. I have a repertoire of over 500 songs nicely printed for you to follow. I am sure there must be one that you would like.

So we shall meet at the D & D on 4th April, 2009.

    Cheers.

    Pat Chan

  53. Hello Patrick

Alamak fren how to forget…you wore such a bright colour shirt. Luckily no “Kuda Kepang” (traditional horse dance)
otherwise you kena chase bcos kuda kepang like red colour ha..ha.

Ok then, will chat again with you during D&D nite. Enjoy your singing sessions & keep on grooving.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  54. hello Patrick,

Iam an SHCian wholoves to listen to the “oldies of 50, 60 and 70s.”
How can I join the group on a friday night at the Tanglin community centre where you are playing the guitar? Do I need to register befor the night’s entertainment?

    Thank you.

    Geok Suan.

  55. Hello Lim Geok Suan,

    Nice to hear from you.

My jam session is just a social musical gathering where my friends (and lately some SHC members) would gather once a week to enjoy a session of musical fellowship.

This means our band would be playing our repertoire for your listening pleasure, anything from pop, rock, country, blues, guitar instrumentals, jazz standards and of course golden classics that you like.

Along the session, we’d welcome anyone to come up and sing with the band. You can also dance, boogie woogie or just hang loose – and be happy.

Geok Suan, find sometime to join us. I have many friends here, who like you, loves oldies too. Let me know what’s your favorite songs and I shall try to sing it for you.

We meet every Friday from 6-10 pm (except this wk which is on Saturday 21 Mar 09). No need for registration, gst, coe or whatsoever. Come free and easy, and parking is free too.

    Cheers, Pat Chan

  56. While waiting for puppy rascal to come home, I do a quick read of the latest comments. Ok, Pat-C, do you and yr guys play Chinese music? No so Chinese as in the opera and wayang type but some more poppy ones like those which swept Taiwan in the 70s-90s? If you do then for sure I must find time to drop by and maybe make myself a nuisance………..

  57. Hey Tim,

Just a while ago, I was laughing so loud about your calling for the bananas, papayas and the two rambutans (hangin from the old oak tree). Glad to meet you here.

Being an English pop band, we’re not that good at Chinese songs but can get by if you sing the popular ones from canto pop, Theresa Teng, Sam Hui and the likes. But for you, Tim, I’ll do anything to play for you, whatever your Chinese songs.

So you come one day, Ok. Pat

  58. Hello Patrick,

Thanks for the invitation to your jam sessions. I will come down to the CC one friday to enjoy the music and your singing.

    Geok Suan

  59. Hi Patrick,

Thank you for the music, the songs YOU’RE singing
Thanks for all the joy YOU’RE bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
    What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me, on 21 Mar!

So, will you conduct teaching lessons for fellow SHCians who are interested to relive their school day hobby in playing musical instruments?

    Cheers
    Rene

  60. Ok, Rene, you have said so many thank you to Patrick-C for giving “it” to you. You can have many many more of the “it” if you are with him, close to him.

He runs a fun-band and they need to eat. Stay with them, cook for them, do a cameo with them, look after them and it wont take very long for the thank you for all the joy coming back to you with interest………then you wont have to ask “What wd life be?” for it shall be music nothing but music till you gong out………..

    Heee……………….

  61. Hello Rene Leong

Sorry for the late reply, just came back .

I am impressed by your writing, sounded very much like a prose poem that I can easily use as a composition for a song. Maybe I should add a melody to it and sing it for you – one day.

Yes, it was a pleasure and fun having so many of you; Janet Chan, Lee Peng Peng, Dennis Wee, Shirleen, Eliza, Lina Tan, Annto and the ever affable Boon Liang who sang like Rod Steward.

‘Conduct teaching lessons for SHCians’?.. didn’t think of that – because that’s a different ball game altogether. However, for the sake of fellowship in music I would be happy to share some basic guitar playing skill (with singing added) to you or your other SHC friends passionate enough to pick up guitar playing.

    Regards,

    Pat Chan

  62. Hello Tim,

Ha ha ha, you made me laugh again and again.

I must say that you are a real Prosodist (a person skilled at verse composition etc) and have that uncanny knack to craft out a spontaneous line from any chaff that you can pick. Good show and keep it coming.

Tim, you know something; you have just given me a good idea of a name when you called my band the ‘Fun-Band’. I like the sound and look of it. So henceforth, this shall be the nickname of our band.

Thanks to you. When we hit big, I shall pay you royalty for the copyright but so far no hit, only got hit by the recession. See you.

    Pat Chan

  63. Hi Patrick,

My apologies; slipped my mind to thank you for an wonderful night of music and songs. The music was great. What about you & your band rock it up at the coming D&D?

Also glad to have met Ronnie Sow at your jam. Understand that he is coming for D&D too; hope to hear him sing.

    Cheers,

  64. Haha, Patrick-C, I think you have got it wrong with yr describinh me as a “prosodist” whom I a not but a pro(essor) sadist I certainly am…….. and Sengh did mention it somewhere that I made gals cry (tho naughty of him to omit saying that it was done to make him laugh).

Well, I can see that you have found and put together a bunch of funky guys, hence off my head Fun-Band it is.

I was only 1 step from the room where you folks performed last Friday but why did you allow this distraction to stand there?

See. madame lao sui wore a tank-top so scanty that both her assets wd anytime drop so I stalked her hoping to harvest the crop but when she started to jog, I had to chase but got the worst of jolts when she turned around smiled and showed her yellow teeth and with my heart stopped, I cdnt join you for song & hop….

Seriously, am happy that the Fn Minister too expressed the same optimism of the recession bottoming out, as I did write about a month ago, in the last quarter starting as early as in September. But rejoice not for it’ll be a long flat bottom U recovery which means the pain will continue for a long while. Those without the resources to last it thru will still suffer. In short, bottoming out wont end the suffering of the “without and have-nots”.

  65. Hi Patrick,

Your music has brought you fame among the SHCians. I am trying hard to find a friday to attend your jam session at the Tanglin CC.

I remember your offer to sing me my favourite song from the 50, 60 or 70s when i am at the CC on a friday nite to enjoy your singing. I have a request to make, just say No if you can’t oblige.

Can I trade the song that you would like to sing for me for some musical entertainment by you at St Joseph’s Home from 11.00am- 11.30am on 1st May 09 and all present can sing along with you too?

I will understand if you have to say No.Please reply.

    Thank you.

    Geok Suan.

  66. Hi Geok Suan,

Very noble and good of you to help out in the homes. I have done a fair bit here and there. Yes, I’d be happy to join you at the St Joseph’s Home for some sing along sessions.

Perhaps you may wish to contact me at – pop.inn@hotmail.com

    Regards,

    Pat Chan

  67. Hello Annto,

You’re welcome. I heard there is a fabulous band coming up at the D & D. So we can meet and rock it up.

    Cheers,

    Pat Chan
