List of traveller friends

Travelling together is a joy.  Only, if we know one another.  It takes time to know one another.  Maybe not now, as some of ours are still working. Maybe wait until we retire.  For some, better travel while our legs can take us around.  Need to keep costs down too.  Budget airlines helps.

Let’s start a list of travellers.  If you like to travel, just put your name here, so that others can contact you.  And, if you are going somewhere, and want to look for fellow travelling friends, come here to this list too.

We shall keep updating this list. Simply let us know through your comments:

Charles Wee, Terence Seah, Veronica Wong, Gibson Tan, Ann Giri, Lily Ho, Jessie Lu, Seow Lee Lee, Patricia Lam, Eyvonne Chew, Peter Thia, Maria Tan.

  1. Let me start with my name. I love to travel, if my legs can still take me. I like budget travel. Place would include China, India and non-touristy places eg Himalaya, Mongolia. Prefer planning at least 3 months before travel.

Accommodation, I like anything less than $30 per day. Sharing would be nicer, so can go down to $15 per person. Dont mind tenting.

Food, only local food, I love street food. Hot spicy hmmm.

Airlines, budget airlines, or special promotions.

Size of group, I think 3 – 4 persons per group very ideal. Bus ok, taxi share cheaper with 3 – 4 people.

  2. Agreed. Include me.
I join whenever I can. Not easy to go on leave
when one has to multitask to survive.
Univ Hols – Mid May to Mid July and Mid Nov to end Dec sh be fine with me.

  3. Hi Terence,

Thank you for initiating this events, it’s so timely. Travelling is so common for Sngaporean, so everyone, please get in the list.

Knowing one another better is one of the basic keys to create relationship and trust which is crucial in our grouping, let’s try and I believe we all can achieve that in days ahead!.

Activities and problem enhances these, and maturity cement it all. So those who are and claims that, come forth and share!

I Welcome any of your comments!

I may not be a frequent traveller, but definately considered this, I’m in.

Any suggestions is welcome especially cost is concerns.

Yes! Not only when your legs still can carry you, but health too.

I can see this in both my parent who are in thie 70’s and 80’s now, so I hope I know I can do better than them. For me join first and travel later.ha.ha

Country or places of interest can develop as we move on, for the time being, what you suggested is good.

  7. Hi All,
Travelling is my passion too. My plans for 2007 are:

Jan: Book a resort maybe at Whistler Mountains and proceed to North Canada to see Artic Lights
    Aug:

  8. I love travelling too. Just came back from Bangkok on 20th August. Well I didn’t even know there was a coup until my colleagues/family emailed me. But it is a non-event.. so calm there.

Anyway let me know of your travelling plans. If time permit, my friend and I would like to join.

    Cheers

  9. Well guys and gays, I just came back from Mt Everest Base Camp last month. At this point of time, while I am still physically fit (do not need limousine service yet) I like to trek and back-pack. Anyone who share same interests and like to rough it out can contact me. Planning for another one next year. Cheers

  10. Hi everyone

I like to travel. But mostly conducted tours – no backpacking or free and easy. If anyone is planning to go on some conducted tours, do let me know.

  11. Hi Phengsg,

Thanks so much for emailing me and sending the beautiful powerpoint slides attachment of Dubai. In one word, whoa FANTASTIC and I am very impressed with its Unique Designed buildings and parks. Mind you they even have a future skyscraper ( 30 floors ) whereby each floor will move very slowly and you can get a 360 degrees aerial view -the world 1st.

It sure is an eye-opener for members who LOVE travelling and this will definitely be in one of my future plans. Anyone interested to join me perhaps next year ?

    In appreciation,
    Steven Chan

  12. Hi all,

I LOVE travelling in this manner.

I would lke to join the group package first( 3 nites ) and then extend another 2 or 3 more nights more to EXPLORE on my own as in Phuket and Phi Phi island.

    – Becos of this special arrangement with my local tourist guide in Phuket, he managed to book for me a beautiful hotel by the beach in advance 2 extra nights in Phi2 island which was OPTIONAL – NOT included in the Grp itinearary.

I was very HAPPY to stay in Phi PhI Island and went for OPTIONAL – islands tour:- I visited the Maya Bay which was featured in the movie ” The Beach ” by actor Leonardo Di Caprio , sat and view on glass-bottomed boats to
see the beautiful corals in its luxuriant and vivid colours and ,snorkelling. At night went for a romantic candle night dinner at one of the island’s restaurants and later headed to the dicsos.

If I was with the grp tour pkg, I would only be there for 5hrs. Too short and will be ferried back to Phuket after lunch.

I was amazed to find the great variety of shops, cafes, bars, traditional massage centres , ATMs, Internet cafes in this beautiful volcanic “paradise”island in the Andaman Sea. I had visited it 10 yrs. ago and one more time in early Nov. 2004.

Thank God.Luckily, I came back 1 month before the ASIAN TSUNAMI strikes on 26 Dec. 2004 devastated the whole island and I will not be writing here.

Highly recommended tour destination for those who had not been to Phi2 island before.

Anyway let me know of your travelling plans.

    Ranking PhiPhi island:-*****

ps Beijing is also in one of my future plans as well.

  13. Hi Terence and all,

I’m Eileen, I enjoy travelling and am budget
traveller too. I’m glad you’ll include my
name in your list if you have plan for future trip, and I would be able to find some interesting travelmate too in case i have some wild places
    in my mind
    Thanks

    Thank v much

    Eileen

  14. Hi,

Yes travelling is my passion too. Free and easy, conducted tours not a problem but not game enough for back packing.

So consider me if any one of you needs a travel buddy.

    Cheers
    Julie Guan

  15. Hi Terence,

It time to categorise keen travellers into different groups, for eg.

    1) Back-packing(roughing it out)

    2) Budget(cheap transport & hotel)

    3) Package(transport, hotel & tour)

  16. Hi SHC members,

As the group grows and we knew one another better, maybe we can just update the list of traveller friends to make it easier to plan for future trips together.

  17. Highly recommended F&E tour. Go early spring or late autumn.

Mt Cook – snow capped mountains beneath salmon skies and by turqoise glacier lakes.

Fly to christchurch. Stay near free shuttle.

Bus to Queenstown. Stay by lake. Also city shuttle available at nominal/season fee.

Bus to Mt cook. Can stay at YHA, motels or Glentanner which is inside the nature reserve at the base of the mountain. The last is highly recommended. It is what they call a holiday park. Great idea for a RV.

For snow trip and not skiing, join day tours on 4 wheels. Feeling brave. Take mountain biking to its limits. No need to take expensive helicopter rides.

  18. Please include me too. I love travelling be it budget or package so long time permit and cost is within budget. I am game for it.

    Kim Leong

  19. Hi Kim Leong,

We have many SilverHairsClub members who are keen on going for travel.

It’s only the retirees that can go on long trips. Short trips are organised by fellow members, so keep a watch out.

I am going with the Europe trip during 1st 2 wks of October 2007.

As more retirees come online on this forum, you will see more long trips. The target: Min 2 weeks, the max 3 months.

I have not retired yet, so I am looking for other members who can organise long trips.

    Cheers.

  20. Hi all,

Am planning a trip to Phuket and Krabi (by land), budget airline , budget hotels , cost sharing and maybe even renting a bike to ride around.

Period around 20th Aug, for a week and also in early Sept for a week also.

If you interested let us have a chat and plan either one of the trips.

    Cheers

  21. Ron,

The mode of holiday is great. But consider doing it elsewhere. Ozzie and Kiwi is really cool in autumn and spring with great sights and trout trails. Why not Christmas island or even Malaysia. Track the Tour de France or Tour de Langkawi.

South Thailand is a zone of conflict. On a bike with a camera? Unless you are sure of passing off as a kampong boy, I think it is better for most to err on the side of caution.

  22. Hi Ronald,

Exciting idea! Love it, but KT is right. Too much unrest in the south. Best to be vigilant.

Yes, I believe Christmas Island would be intriguing. Haven’t been there, but I like to go new places and try things new. Game for it. Keep me in the pix.

  23. Hi all,

I guess in life there always a risk in any situation, knock down by a falling tree in the most peaceful or circumstances, etc.

But am heading there not just for a holiday, maybe more a journey through life.
So will have to be careful in many aspects too and hope to find some kind of enlightenment from the simpler life, while going back to the basic necessities in life.

Anyone, heading towards this path in life , can look me up sometime if future maybe.

    Cheers

  24. Hi KT

Since we last met at the group meeting with Joan, from Australia and Priscilla at the CSC, Bukit Batok, have already informed Joan would not make it this year, as Alice and I had just returned from Hokkaido, Japan, and would most probably contacting her again next year. If you have any plan to go down south next year, keep me inform.

Terence…Alice and I would most be happy to join in any group, be it Free and Easy or Package, but not back-packing, destination-wise will be considered, when time come. We are always looking-out for promotion-package during off-season, save cost.

Presently we are embarking on a 6D5N VIRGO cruise on 16th Sept on a 1 for 1 free at $1,030/= on a Credit Card offer, to Bangkok and Hua Hin. We have with us Priscilla and Philip, who have shown interest, and any other Silverhairs members are most WELCOME, my e-mail:
    ronlaikc@gmail.com or mobile: 8112-8285.

    REGARDS
