A Bangala mix with Hindi music disco

Oooh, I just love to dream. I just got out from a dinner at a posh Dhaka social club and now into a local Bangladeshi disco. Located on the 19th floor, the disco is packed with some 100 bangladesh professionals, who are just unwilling to go home. The time is 1055pm. The music is Bangladesh mixed with Hindi. You won’t believe it but the singer is 35 year old, from Dhaka, and extremely sexy and entertaining. With one keyboard, and a tabla, the mood was just right for a disco. Reminds me of the Bollywood disco I went to in Goa. Here, all hairs down. And everybody were as close as a sandwich pair with only a piece of cheese in between. if you think there is a recession in Dhaka, then I would say this city is 6 months behind the rest of the world. Red sarries, fast tempo, oohs, hi my friend, dim lights and bangla mad drinks. Gosh, I had 6 doubles of black label whisky, so this may not make sense. But, in my restrained body, I am thinking and dreaming of a Indian Bollywood mixed with Bangladesh disco for all of us. The music is loud and fantastic. How, cannot express in English. Oh, and not to forget, the cigar. When, aiyah, this year. Terence Seah

  1. Hi Terence / Francis ,

Terence, thanks for your interesting post.
    …..Red sarries, fast tempo, oohs,

BOLLYWOOD Aerobics music and dances are now a “craze” hitting the Americans at the gyms and dance studios.

I would like to suggest to Francis why not have a short segment of Bollywood Music Dances during our D n D for something EXCITINGLY different this year 09. Dance away all the recession blues and global economic crisis to a more healthy you.

I understand that our SHC dance insrtuctor Hamidah Ishak is keen in Bollywood dancing and also our tall and slim Veronique is v.good at Belly Dancing and could lead us to follow them.

Well,we could have the BW music taken from the Slumdog Millionaire songs by ARR Rahman,Oscar winnner for Best music. The songs I would like to suggest are Jai Ho,
    O Saya, Gangsta Blues etc…

I remember when we view the movie Slumdog ,a Caucasian next to my seat was so impressed with the music oohs, beats and ahhs and dances that he kept shaking his head to n fro.

We ALL enjoyed v.much at the Karaoke Competition at the Strand Hotel last year when our great SHC dancer Ron Lai demonstrated and led us to do the “Chicken Dance”
Everyone was so happy and laugh with JOY.

I hope that this time round our EO Francis could liase with Hamidah/Veronique and some others to get it going.

We are looking forward to some Bollywood music n dance for a change.

    What say you guys/gals ?

  2. Hey Terence,

You dreaming or is it for real? Bcos as far as I know …. there is no Disco on any 19th Floor…..whether local or foreign…..unless they just opened/allow it this year.

    Ivan

  3. Sengh, how on earth did you know she as aged 35 since you cdnt have been a regular of that joint which got you so excited at yr (first?) patronage? I cant imagine you walking up to her as she sang, and asked for her age. Neither can I imagine her adding “I am 35 years old” in her lyrics as she sang.

So if it was bcos she hanged a tag with the number 35 written on it as is done in the flea market for lelong sales, the 35 can mean anything, from selling her entire whole for 35 kronos, or going at he rate of 35 dongs per hour……or that her maximum entertainment per day is 35 customers, or she has 35 bfs already and if you want to be the next, you’d to replace the tag with a number 36………..

  4. Gosh, with 6 doubles of black label whisky, your sentence construction and spelling is still good! So we go get our saris ready OK.

  5. Hi TimL,Lina, Ivan,

I guessed the singer and dancer was 35. Aiyah, I looked and looked. She cannot be 30 and she cannot be 40. So, she must be 35. Anyway, lina is right, I can still write and spell.

Anyway, I am very excited, and will go there tonight. I went to the disco this morning, and it is on the 19th floor. Not operating now lah.

Ok, what am I going to do now? Get Hamidah’s help as suggested by StevenC or go get some hindi bollywood styled disco CDs now. Hmm, one day, we can have a Bollywood, free form, hot disco dance night.

Lyna, thanks I didn’t know how to spell “sari”, now I know. Get ready guys and gals, sometime this year, we will have a Bollywood night.

    Terence

  6. Hi Steven Chan #1,

It is very good idea to have a short (why short?) segment of Bollywood dancing. It will be quite interesting. I am ready to rock. .

Any lady to join me? We both can run around the trees and sing and dance to a fast and sexy beat. Best lady is Indian lady. Hi Gengha Dhevi? Are you keen? But I am afraid I will run behind Dhevi around trees and her husband Sekaran will chase me with a knife to stab me ha ha. My friend, Sekaran. It is just a joke. I know you well. In February SHC monthly meeting, you told me that you had no objection to me dancing with your wife. You are a nice gentleman.

Now it is for the SHC dance instructress Hamidah Ishak for Bollywood dancing and tall and slim (Steven, you are a very good bird-watcher ha ha. I fully agree with you) Veronique for belly-dancing as invitations to both to rock the floor. Of course, I can understand that time is very short. Hence no need to confirm now. You can confirm to me later if you are performing. Please do contact me via my email francisemail@yahoo.com

Veronique, may be, you can give a free workshop about simple steps of belly-dancing. Ladies would love it Kindly consider it

    Francis

Lina, thanks I didn’t know how to spell “sari”, now I know. Get ready guys and gals, sometime this year, we will have a Bollywood night. And, I am in Dhaka now, sorry not Mumbai.

    Terence

  8. Sengh, eyes can and do play tricks as I can see 2 identical psotings from you @5 and 7 althou I was told, you only posted once.

Thus, if it were your eyes which told youi that the dancer was 35, then you’ll probably see the same her tonite at 53, such as I sometimes see you not as 53 but 5 and, a few blinks later, 3.

Whatever, age is only a number so if she does arouse you enough, you can covenant with her to look her up each time you’re in Dhaka, for the next 35 years. A deal like that when you are of this legal age of 5-something shd not cost more than 50,000 rupee. Anything less is a steal but anything more is daylight robbery.

  9. Hi Tim, Terence,

B4 6 whiskies, she is 53. After 6 whiskies, she becomes 35. So have a good look at her b4 the whiskies, not after, lah!

  10. Lina, forget abt whiskies…ask Sengh to whistle and she’ll drop to her bikinis and when that happens, the top of Sengh will sure blow pee pee as his bottom starts to wee wee, a side show for all to see for free and the next morning Dhaka News will carry the foto of this humpsup dee dee whose face sure turn redder than the butt of the monkey………

  11. Hi Lina / Francis /others..,

…..B4 6 whiskies, she is 53. After 6 whiskies, she becomes 35. So have a good look at her b4 the whiskies, not after, lah! I couldnt help laughing aloud at your “serious” joke.

……( Sengh, eyes can and do play tricks as I can see 2 identical psotings from you @5 and 7 althou I was told, you only posted once.)

Tim , you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT !
After so many rounds of whiskies, Terence’s eyes becomes so FOGGY and BLURRED that the actual OLD singer of 53, has illusioned Terence’s sight to be a YOUNG, VOLUPTOUS,SEXY and BEAUTIFUL Belly Dancer. Yana Yana,35 rupees; Ai mai,ai mai! still lingering in his mind.

Ha! Ha! His eyes must be playing tricks once again.

  12. Hello Mr Steven Chan

I noticed whenever mentioned Bollywood dance, you must mentioned my name & drag me in. I’m not Indian lah..if Malay Joget or Indonesian Dangdut dance at least something haha. Francis, why not add Dangdut dance too(gelek2 type) for D&D dancing time for a change plus Steven’s requested Bangra/bollywood disco. Bira, Nor, Rose White & Zaria may be can also guide in Dangdut dance haha. So we can have a little bit of everything eg social, Ldance,Bollywood & Dangdut etc. which I think it’s fun & everybody can give it a try.

Francis, don’t 4get to build artificial small hill for me to dance with Steven running up & down the hill like in Indian movie since you too going to run round the tree chasing after Dhevi hee..hee.

Terence looks like I got to go Little India to buy Sari/Punjabi suit & Bagra/Bollywood disco CDs. Not sure whether Francis got this kind CDs.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  13. Hi Tim / Francis / Dhevi,

Tim at #10,I couldn’t help LAUGHing aloud once more.
You are V. Good in rhyming.

Francis and Dhevi, …….We both can run around the trees and sing and dance to a fast and sexy beat. Ya lah! Just that’s exactly what they do for Bollywood movies.

    Tambi… tambi , Bombelat ….Bombelat

  14. Hi Hamidah,

……I noticed whenever mentioned Bollywood dance, you must mentioned my name & drag me in.

If I am not mistaken at Ron’s Wie chalet last year , you were teaching the members some kind of “belly dancing” or Indian dance at night and some of the dancers were wearing the “kring kring” angklets. Or is it my eyes could be seeing things after a drink or two like Terence?

To include Dangdut and Joget dance at DnD is a WONDERFUL idea too. Tik tam Poong ….Tik tam Poong.

  15. Terence #5&7:
“Ok, what am I going to do now?”

Well! you can try the Waterfront Garden Hotel…..a veri veri “nice” massage parlour there….this opens in the day as well as in the nite…

  16. Forget to add…….the ladies at the massage parlour there are from Thailand…..

  17. Hmm, getting more exciting. First, we must look out for our Indian friends with SHC. We can find them, some are not active, but let’s see.

Next, the ladies will have to wear thei saris. The men in jeans, bangles and boots. For those more game, consider thick black leather pants and tight-fitting tees.

I think finding a venue would be fun, somewhere in Singapore. Music and songs should be genuine, hot stuff, non-stop and bringing the blood pressure to 150/120.

Keep the ideas coming in and flowing. Once all thoughts are in place, we decide a date.

I see some of you are excited too. And, if you don’t know what is a high tech Hindi Bollywood style disco and have looked into youtube and find some Bollywood Hindi or Punjabi video clips, come share with us.

    Terence

  18. Hey…..are we talking about Dhaka as in Bangladesh or Bollywood Hindi/Punjabi as in INDIA………bcos the Culture and the “freedom of social approximity” in these two places are MILES apart…………

  19. Terence

    Can’t help but notice this……

    At 10.57am …#5’Anyway, I am very excited,’…….
At 11.02am …#7 same post as in #5 except with a new last sentence ….’And, I am in Dhaka now, sorry not Mumbai.’…(trying to get a grip) but obviously still excited and finally at 2.29 PM …#17’Hmm, getting more exciting’…..and ‘I see some of you are excited too’

You are really ‘high’! Can’t wait for you to visit HK. Now I am excited too. May post this a second time…hehehe

Lina #9 – a good one! Spot on!

  20. Hi IvanL #2,

I was almost fooled by you into believing that there are no discos in the world on the 19th floor. I was there last night again. I think a Bollywood Hindi disco night may work. Keep in touch. Well, I am off again. Now, on the way to Shanghai. To the Bund, the Wai Hai Lu walkway and the great Shanghai food.

Geraldine, I may get up to Hong Kong soon. We catch up with Ivy Low (HK) for old fashion dim-sum.

    Guys and gals, be good.

    Terence Seah

  21. Dear #12,

M game with it but this time not the ‘kring kring ‘angklets but the “ketong ketong” bicycle chains.

    Dear #17

“For those more game, consider thick black leather pants and tight fitting tees” …Last but not least sleek gel hairs with “natural” jasmine flowers.

    Rgds

    Rose White

  22. Terence,
Geraldine and I have arranged to meet up for lunch 2mrw. Call us when you are here. We can have traditional dim-sum at that old fashion cantonese restaurant and hk double-boiled soup (“dun tong” or even snake soup) if you haven’t got enough of it in sg. See you soon.

  23. Aiyah, Ivy, you no good lah………..why “dun tong” for Sengh?

I am ok if (which is an assumption, of cos) he is smarter than me but not ok for the fact (which is serious cos it’s no more an assumption) that he’s more humsup.

Please do me a favour. Serve Sengh “dumb tong”. Only then he will be on par with me.

  24. Tim,

Can’t you see that Terence is too thin and so under nourished? Too much noise from you already, I’ll get you the “dumb” tong, instead. I’ll also check what soup is good for humpsup treatment. You need it…badly.:)))

  25. “Ho sum lah, fook sum lah, hor lin har orr ee kor mung arn huk ee lah………” that was what sun ma si chan sang decades ago.

Heee, Ivy, for me, you can subsitute “mung arn huh ee lah” with “ma luk lor lah”.

But honestly, you’re very lucky and……….. privileged.

I have been with Seng to places out of bounds to gals and still didnt get to see that “too thin” thing but you did.

Ok, I am on yr side now, in yr desire to make his big like Stallone’s thigh but dont aiyoh aiyoh to me later when you cant handle it hor…………

    Heee……………..

  26. Hi to all,

I have no objection for Dhevi to dance for our SHC dinner. Only that, she needs to put on her kneeguards b4 she dance. Will get her to do her best for the night although she has no dance training.

    sekaran

  27. Hi Terence #17

“I think finding a venue would be fun, somewhere in Singapore. Music and songs should be genuine, hot stuff, non-stop and bringing the blood pressure to 150/120.

When I read your comments, I could not think of any place other than Mambo Dance Studio in Golden Mile Complex in Beach Road.

The Dance Studio is a small exclusive place, for 60 to 80 persons. It has a big dancing floor. The seating is mostly nice sofas for two persons. Hence the seating is very comfortable.

The owner of the dance studio is very good friend of mine. If SHC can guarantee a minimum number of persons, confirming to come for NON-STOP BOLLYWOOD DISCO JAM, playing only Hindi and Punjabi songs. Then I can make our jam a private event, exclusively for SHC members on that nite. We also can have an Indian Buffet dinner. Everything is Bollywood, including dress. Does it sound wonderful?

The place also has Karaoke set and TV screen. So if SHC members can bring karaoke discs of Hindi music, I will make arrangement with management for the members to sing when there is a private event for SHC. This place can be used for any other function also.

May be, you and me join hands together and give the SHCians a totally new and memorable experience.

    Francis

  28. Hi Everybody, I am Genet and I am new to SHC :-)

I can’t sing and I have 2 left feet but I definitely can run round & round any trees.

Kindly count me in if you are organising “Bollywood Night”.

    Kind Regards
    Genet

  29. Hello Genet

Welcome to the SHC. The way you wrote so cute ie you confessed cannot sing nor dance but can just run around the trees. In bollywood dance you cannot be dancing round & round the trees only wait you “tao hin” headache. U got to have stamina too running up & down the hills plus rolling your body down the hill like in Hindi movie haha. Whatever it is you’re very sporting at least you’re keen in participating.

Will you be attending upcoming SHC D&D?

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  30. Hi Hamidah,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to meet the SHC members and yourself.

As for the SHC D&D, I understand the closing date is alredi over liao :-(

Anyway I have just “appealed” to Francis and hope I can get his favourable reply….otherwise I will have to see you on “Bollywood Night”.

As for “tao hin”, dun worry lah I will start training my old bones to build up my stamina and do the Chori Chori…hee hee !

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  31. Hi Genet

Wah you know Chori chori huh which I don’t, so you can teach me lah. Hopefully Francis can cincai by allowing you to join D&D so we could get to meet & chat.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  32. Hi Genet,

Welcome to SHC.You’ll enjoy the activities in SHC club. See you soon.

Since you are interested to attend the D&D and booking is closed, I have 2 tickets available for transfer. My friend and her husband cannot make it to the D&D on saturday due to unforeseen circumstances.

Would you like to buy their tickets if you have not got one yet?

    Geok Suan.

  33. Hi Geok Suan,

Thanks for your warm welcome. I look forward to seeing you too.

Unfortunately I had already made the payment tfr before I saw your message. I am really sorry I am unable to buy over the 2 tickets.

    Hi Hamidah,

Now that Francis has extended the D&D invitation to me, I can meet you sooner than expected and I am really looking forward to it ;-)

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  34. Hi Genet

I’m happy to see Francis gave you the green light this afternoon for D&D & that means we’ll meet much earlier then expected. Will look for you at vegetarian table ok & so on lah 4u to teach me how to chori chori heh..

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  35. Very very interesting…a Bollywood, free form, hot disco dance night. Pls let it happen..:-))))

  36. Hi June Lim

Me & Genet just talk 4 talk 5 only lah & you seems so excited already. Don’t worry be happy, we just enjoy lah dat nite don bother what songs they play, we hantam dance

    Hamidah

  37. Hi everybody who knows Singapore well, and have explored the night life from Changi village to Jurong Tuas,

Any convenient place that we can have a Bollywood night, near at MRT, and can take in 100 crazy people who are prepared to knock down the walls and pull down the lights.

Inside this little cow brain of mind, I am thinking of working with our Indian SHC friends, to put up this crazy event. Maybe and maybe 1 week before Deepavali. Maybe our food would be samosas, rotis and tandooris. Hmm, and of course, some liquids that would raise the temperature to 40C and the humidity to RH 85%.

Hamidah, Chori chori, that’s it. I am sure many will luv this dance. And June, I would also work with you, as you love free form. Bollywood night must be non-stop, right? One crazy DJ, lights and 240 decibel noise. Seka and Dhevi, you must be part of the picture, I really mean picture on the wall. Ivy and Geraldine, you must fly down from Hong Kong. Rose and AndrewT, help me to bring Mumbai to Singapore. We must consult IvanL, as he seems to know the difference between Punjabi and Hindi music. Lina, save your mini after the D&D, can be reused.

Any guys or ladies who can make samosas, rotis and lassi? Maybe we can outsource this hard work to you?

And, now looking for a wild selection of Bollywood stuff, Hindi or Punjabi, will do. A good tinge of America, and UK English songs, the hotter the better but no Hokkien, Hainanese, Cantonese, TeoChew or Mandarin songs. Looking for a great DJ, male or female, the hotter the better.

The aim: to loose 2,000 calories, two litres of body fluids. The wear: singlets, Tees, body huggers. And, where is Veronique? I shall be in touch with you soon.

The next time, you hear from me will be the date. And Dolly, it’s fun not to be SHC Club manager.

    Terence Seah

  38. Yes yes yes!!! If Hamidah is in, I am definitely in!! :-))

Must go to Little India to hunt for those golden bangles, golden earrings, golden necklaces…erm…what else do we need?? :-)

Charles Wee can be our hot DJ!!!! He is so hot in his sleeveless black T!!!…:-))) (Sorry Charles, I didn’t say hi to you whn we were at Patrick’s jam as I couldn’t recognise you…until someone told me!!!)

  39. Hi to all,

We are in for the Bollywood Dance Nite. Spoken to my wife Gengha and she has agreed to do her part too as she is keen to dance too. What we need now is a EO for the event. Will try to convince her to take up the role of the EO’s for the event. But would need Hamidah, Francis and others to give her their moral support to volunteer herself to be an EO for the event.
Francis your role (fresh with D&D nite experience) and Hamidah ( your interest in Bollywood dance ) would come in hand for the event. With both your guidance, we can make it. Other SHC members do please give your support too. I am in for the committee if need be (On shift duties – not an excuse).

Can we get all the support please to make a move.

    Sekaran

  40. Sekaran # 42

I give my full support for Gengha to be the EO.

Gengha contacted me yesterday and requested me to be EO for Bollywood Dance Night since she has no prior experience in event organising.

I refused politely. I told her that when I took up the EO of D&D 2009, I also did not have prior experience. But I promised to do whatever duty, she is allotting me.

Do not worry, Sekaran. I am the servant of Bollywood Queen, Gengha for the Bollywood Dance Night.

    Francis

  41. Hi Gengha,
Glad dat u will be going 2b d EO for Chori2 Nite n I will definitely support you being 1. Normally, we would prefer to have new members raising their hands to be EO so dat we hv variations in their planning. Everyone hv their own styles, rite?

Pls look into possible date/venue/food/cost for initial planning purposes. OK… Dolly

  42. Hi Dolly,

Sorry for the late reply as I was down with a bad flu for at least 1 weeks. Besides that work was been hectic due to the opening of the new financial year . Well, any way, Terrence had approached me and suggested me to be the EO for the “Bollywood Night” as well.

Being nominated EO for this event, I am fully up for this responsibility if selected.

The songs are power and besides that The BANGRA musics are loud. Before I can proceed , can I suggest that we opt for the occasion , need to check how many are interested in this dance. We have only a minority of Indians and majority of Chinese. I need to look for a Hindi Pub , where they can provide me with the space, music , drinks (to be purchased individually) no food provided. We need to just dance, shake your bums and by the end of the occasions , we will definetly loose at least 60% of calories. I would like to discuss this issue in due course . Thanks for offering me your help . Can we have volunteers for this event. I will definitely need the professional helps from all who can help. Thank you so much.

  43. Hi Gengha,

“we will definitly loose at least 60% of calories.”…

This is reason enough for me to volunteer my humble services to assist you. Now I can eat Murukus without feeling guilty.

Pls count me in and let me know how I can be of help.

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  44. Hi Gengha,
Not nominated la.. oredi selected liao.. pls go ahead n plan. Will sure to give support if not clash with my China work schedule ok. Maybe by May monthly gathering, u r able to give us a tentative workout in terms of plc, cost and hw many paxs u r expecting… Happy planning – Dolly :)
