  1. Hi Sockie,

I took a glimpse at the website and got glued to it. It is very good photography with very clear subject pertaining to every photo posted. Good photos. I shall join you on that day. Thanks for leading.

Between, for those who like to take photo. The technique used in taking picture with a conventional SLR is different from using a digital camera. This is an opportunity to pickup a tip or two. See you all there.

    Cheers.

  2. Hi Sockie
The photo pictures posted are very well taken.
I am an amateur photographer for donkey years, Have 2 SLRs with wide angles 28mm and super zoom lens up to 300mm, Two automatic conventionals and one digital cybershot.

Still prefer talking photos with conventional camera. More depth and greater shutter and exposure contrast.
I will be there on the 11 April at B. Gardens. Thank you. See you.

  3. Hi Sockie…would a digital camera user who loves to point and shoot be able to make sense of your teecher’s pointers? :-)

Btw, the 1st pic, 2nd row on pg 1…that’s a WOW for me!!!

  4. sockie

I missed the “scenery” this time , count me in for this event and remember chop a place for me for the class , ok

Please “call” to remind me when time is near , ok. Thanks

Want to be a pro like u la

  5. Hi YK @#6

In this instance, I don’t see any harm in having the name of a non-SHC member in the post relating to this event.

Let’s allow our discretion to prevail and not be so rigid and mindless in following a “rule”.

BTW, why do we have such a rule in the first place?

    Warmest Regards,
    Patsy

  6. Hey Sock Cheng

I like the photos! How did you manage the shot after the one with the arch at the Borobudur? The mountain in the background looks real but the mists in the foreground don’t. The tricks of the camera or is it the skills of the photographer?

Don’t you think the areas you’ve traveled to are rustic but refreshing? Both Alison and you must have had a good time.

Hope to catch up with you soon at an event.

    Daisy

  7. Hi Patsy

I understand your concern. By putting the name of a person, it’s more like advertising. We could but for our rules set by our founder, if person in question qualifies n applies for membership, of course there wouldn’t be question.

In fact I hd released the post 2 fast but after being alerted later on, I edited. The next time review of posts will take much longer, I promise so that no question of such will be on members’ minds.

Thanks for bringing up this subject n giving me the opportunity 2 clarify.

  8. YK #1 & 6 – Yes I will be the self appointed EO ;0). Sorry I was not aware if the rule, will bear that in mind in future. Anyway I am trying to get to my instructor to join SHC and he had indicated that he will consider so we shall see.

Ronald (#) & LeePatrick (#3) – Thanks for you compliments. Am still pretty much a newbie at this. Did not go through the conventionl but jumped straight into digital. I understand the techiques gained from conventional photography are much better than digital and I bet I can pick the brains of you two guys someday hahaha.

June (#5)- Sometimes point and shoot can take very nice pictures too, so come along and have some fun with us. I will bring my DSLR and let you try…then maybe after that you may end up running to buy one LOL.

Daisy (#9) – The clouds are real alright, it was a very early in the morning and very misty too. The 11 days took us from Jakarta on the bus and then on the ferry to Bali…very tired but we had a great trip…I came back with more than 3000 photo but not all are good :0)

    Sockie

  9. Hey YK how do I go about updating the names of those who are keen to join the workshop huh? Can you update that for me puh-lease? Terima Kasei

    Sockie

June (#15) – The cat was actually sitting there for a while waiting to be photographed ;0) ……so you coming to join us ot not huh?

  11. Sockie,

Don’t sock me blue black hor! Meeting at the basement of the foodcourt at the main gate or entrance. Got foodcourt meh! Long time did not go to Botanic Gdns now. Too old to “paitoh” and no young damsels like old man with no flashy car, etc… Wife did not want to relive the sweet memories of our paitoh (courting) days in BGdns Got locked in after 10pm when they closed the gates, so slept in the pavilion over nite, where Lee Li Hwa acted the Shaw Brothers production “Rain storm in Chinatown” at the B.Gdns in 1960. Sure it was a stormy nite lah!

Sorry lah! just kidding. Laughing right? Well hope I make everyone’s day.

  12. Yo YK I was able to add Lilian’s name but now I tried adding Edwin’s and Annie’s names these did not show up after I saved it….HELP

    Sockie

  13. Patrick,

Think you’ve been staying up in the mountain longer I did…yes there is a food court in SBG……ehhh I do not know the exact location too though I was there before because I just follow the ‘leader’…..but if you are a talking ‘mountain tortise’ hor think you can ask for direction when u get there hahahahaha……. all else fail you call 999 or its it 911….welll you go figure it out ;0)

    Sockie

  14. Hi Sockie.

Wow.. yr photos on your blog is extremely impressive. You’re as good as a professional .. if not better! I’m just an “aim & shoot” digital user. Do i qualify for your session @ Botanical Gardens on 11th? Anybody coming from Tampines/eastern end & want to car pool, so that we won’t be late, or unable to locate that “food Court” .. ‘cos i also hv no idea that there was a “food court” in Botanical Gardens. So Patrick, you’re not alone.

    Cheers, Lydia.

  15. Hi Lydia,

Thank you very muchy for your compliments. I am still learning as I move along. I started with a point and shoot also and sometimes P&S can take very good pictures too…it’s all about the person behind the camera lah…but of course hardware does play a part. No ‘qualification’ needed for the workshop, we are all there to share and learn.

As for the carpark hor, I must fo up mountian and ask me shiu also because I also sua ku lah but I am sure there is a food court there as I was there on one of our practical photography session before…just don;t know the exact location only

    Sockie

  16. Hello to all the potential photographer,

I was there during a SHC Walk the last time, the Basement carpark is link to the foodcourt. Very easy to find, the carpark have clear signboard pointing to the foodcourt. Enjoy shooting here & there guys and gals!…heheheeeee.

    Ah Nee

  17. Yo YK

  23. to those who attended the free photographic session on april 11th, thank you, I enjoyed your company and I hope you get something from it.
If you wish to contact me, my email is cecil@1digital.com.sg.
There were some request for free video training and I think I can arrange that if there is sufficient request, do email me to let me know and if there is demand, I’ll post on SHC for a free video workshop but I’ll have to see when I’m free.
weekday for those not working should be ok.

  24. I do really enjoy yesterday outing very much. Thanks to Sockie for initialing it and Cecil for giving us so many good pointers on photography. It is indeed a wonderful day.
Cecil is a very good teacher with a wealth of information on photography and video filming. Shutterbugs! Do pick his brain.

A picture tell a thousand words as the saying goes — compare our photos and those posted by Sockie and we can tell ourselves what we are lacking with….. knowledge and a good teacher.

Thanks Sockie and Cecil for the contributions.

    Cheers,

  25. Hi all

Thanks for your compliments on my photos. I took a course under Cecil in Jul 08 and he had been a very good mentor to all of us. Since then we have been on several outings with fellows shutterbugs, including the last trip to Indonesia and he is still giving us pointers as we move along.

For those who could not make it to the seeion for one reason or another, I am sure there will be other chances in the future for such sharing sessions again.

    Sockie
