  1. Hi YK

A group of us shcians overnight in Sg Rengit when we rode to Desaru last weekend.

We left Desaru after 7pm in order to gaze at the stars and to experience night cycling. It was pitch darkness but we had our blinkers and we rode through the cool silent night, it was beautiful, we enjoyed the night cycling back to Sg Rengit.

For May’s monthly cycling event to Pengerang, I have to give this overnight stay a miss but we could ride to Desaru and back if the response to the above thread is poor.

  6. Hi Yew Kwong/Douglas,

This will be my first time joining you out of Singapore.
I looked forward to it, having missed all the previous trips to Sg Rengit and Desaru.
I managed to get permission to leave our lovely island.
I can stay for 1 night if needed.
Hope that more will go along.
    Where are you people?

  7. Hi YK,
Unbale to go this date as I have an appt liao. Will try to fit in on other dates as I’m still into cycling. Let’s just put it as I’m taking a short break from cycling. But any short trip, if time permit will surely be around, ya, nor#9 I heard you. Next time you must cycle to Pengerang with all of us.

  8. Hi All

Do let us know if u are still keen 2 cycle to Pengerang.

Itinerary for stay at Pengerang –
Sat, 16 May – Rest n relax at Tai Hoe Hotel plus a gd dinner (the only hotel that allows u 2 park the bikes in your room)
Sun, 17 May – Explore places of interest n try out dirt biking at Tristan Park (http://www.tristangroup.com/)

    Must bring –
    1) Helmet
    2) Spare inner tubes x 2 if u are riding your own bike

  9. Hi YewKwong, if u can spare the time, tell us abt your weekend write (err…I mean ride :-))). Wld love to read abt it. From start to end pls.

  10. Our Adventure –

5 of us went but 3 stayed overnite. Who were the 3? Lawrence Lau, Thomas Goh n myself lor. We stayed in Tai Hoe Hotel, a beautiful hotel we saw on the web, wif a beautiful seaview. Standing bath tub wif a fountain splashing water from above your head, we enjoyed each n every bath we had. The rustic surrounding amidst natural landscape filled wif durian n rambutan trees, exotic hibiscius (some colors were so rare), long forgotten kampong houses, colorful Chinese temples, lovely beaches, occasional dogs’ barks n cats’ meows.

We didnt cycle far as the heat was scorching but within Sg Renggit. The sight of the houses of the Riches in contrast to the ordinary ones was an eye opener. We visited the nearest Goddes of Mercy temple. The caretaker, a lady in her late 50’s was so kind that she gave us a prescription against H1N1.

There is no much night life except watching soccer matches on a big TV screen at one coffeeshop. A young lady (we believed she was the boss) here was also kind 2 us offering 2 keep an eye on our belongings while we moved around.

There were some seafood restaurants made famous by Spore celebraties. We didnt try it out as we prefered plain n simple meals. While we enjoyed our meals, we discussed about possible business venture in a cybercafe here.

The Ostrich farm’s visit was fruitful. We witnessed ostrich’s mating, how contents in the egg was extracted, hatching of the ostrich chick, how empty egg shell can be made into lamp shade n last but not least, tasting of ostrich egg, ostrich satay, ostrich soup n minced ostrich meat. Much 2 our surprise, an ostrich egg placed on sandy ground can withstand the weight of 100kg.

We will go back again in the next few mths for another overnite stay but will ride up to Kota Tinggi. If everything turns out fine, we plan for a cycling trip to Karimun b4 the year ends.

  11. U sure u not writing a compo for teacher?? What u wrote are the bare facts? :-))

Everything sounds so good except the scorching heat!!! :-)))Even the wild boar got roasted whilst crossing the road…(pics from Doug:-)))
Bet there will be lots signing up for the next adventure ride!!

Btw I got my bike as planned. So far, hve been cycling around the park. Very shaky esp turning and very very nervous whn cycling on the road. Hven’t bot helmet and front lights yet!! Will be buying them soon.

  12. Hi June

Wah, u are serious! Shows us your new bike at nx mth cycling session. Can? This will enable us 2 help u adjust perhaps the height or whatever is needed. More practices make perfect n strengthen your stamina 2 take on longer distance.

Hurray! another new bike counted in.

    YK

  13. Hi Admin :-)))) (so odd no name!!)
Where can I buy those “straps” to strap the bike to the car? Need to get my hubby to cart the bike to East Coast.

Tell u something so cartoon. When I first bot the bike, I was cycling it home. But less than 5 mins, I was cycling it back to the shop…I told the shopkeeper…”hello, I think the bike’s chain is loose bec whn I cycle, I feel like the chain is coming off any time”..He adjusteed the gear on the handle and ask me to cycle. It was so much better. I laughed!!! So it was the gear!!! He said with a straight face…”come back one afternoon whn I not so busy aand I will teach u how to use the gears.” I so tood (stupid) right!!!! :-))))

Btw, I can ride long distance but only on level ground. Not on roads, not yet. I always imagine I may lose my balance whn a car comes along…so frightening!!!

  14. Hi June,

You mean those elastic straps? You can buy them from the bicycle shops. Are you going to carry your bicycle in the boot? Does it fit? For me, I had to use a bicycle rack mounted on my boot, (bicycle rack borrowed from Ah Nee).

You will get better with practice, not to worry. We always do the silliest things when we are not familiar. Good to learn how to put the chain back when they come off. You have to be fairly confident before you ride on the road. Practice makes perfect. Keep at it.

  15. Hi June

As Lina suggests, get yourself a bicycle rack 2 fit on the back of your car 4 transporting the bicycles from one plc 2 another.

Yup, the shop guy is correct. U need some times 2 get use 2 playing wif the gears. Alright 2 cycle on level ground. Just imagine level ground hv many levels like tat of a shopping centre.

Bring your bike 2 ECP next mth. We shall be there early 2 teach u what u shd know.

  16. Hi Lina and YewKwong…Hahahaha, I meant the rack to fit the back of car, not straps!!! so tood again!! Will check that out with Ah Nee.
I hope the rack wont peel off any of the car’s paint ;-))) otherwise old man will grumble grumble…:-)))

  17. June, so now you are in the (own a bike team),seems like it is a trend for SHC cyclists. Your cycling not so bad lah, at least your stamina is super good, much better than me. The last time, you joined us at EC, you even went ahead of me, hahaha……next month’s cycling at EC, come with your bike ok, so long never cycle with you. :)

    Ah Nee

  18. Hi June,

Don’t worry about the rack peeling the car paint. The thing you have to be careful is to get a good, sturdy rack. There are lots in the market, price varies too. Now they have very good quality racks.

For me, after a few times bringing my bicycle to ECP, I decided to rent a bike. I feel more comfortable driving the car without the bike. Am not using the rack at the moment. Perhaps, Ah Nee will be kind enough to let you have a try with the rack.

  19. Hi June

4 a start, this is what u n I can do. We fix a day, preferably on Sat, I cycle 2 your place n meet up wif u. We then cycle around your estate. Any member staying near your place can come n join the cycling session.

Wif this, u can build up your stamina n get accustomed to your new bike. Distance can be conquered. Time is never a factor. Eating is a must. Just regular n more practices.

  20. Hello folks out there…anyone staying in Sampahwang and love to cycle? :-)

Hi Lina…u mentioned good sturdy racks in the market….cld u name some places pls.

Since I hve a bike, might as well own a rack. On days hubby busy, I can call cab and use the rack too…btw, don’t think cabbies will refuse me right?..

YewKwong, one day I will take up your offer. :-) U stay in town and cycling to my place is already some distance, by the time u reach my place u “heh hey chuan” :-)). So far, hve been cycling once a week. Once, I cycled to Yishun where the “Taste of Thailand” restaurant is. There is a park near there. The park ends at the seaside where the Bottle Neck restaurant is. But think the distance is 2.5 km (there are markings on the pathway). So I cycle up and down 4 times, which wld cover 10 km, then I cycle home.

  21. Ah Nee, as u know, I hve lots of things to do on Saturdays. :-))

Actually was toying with the idea of getting one of those chalets at the east cost (now owned by goldkist?) on the 3rd Sat of Jul. Those cycling that day can gather there after their write (sorry Terence, now I love to write ride as write:-))),. can gather at the chalet for dinner. We can hve barbecue or potluck there, hear the guitarman play, and end with playing “si sek pai” (4 color cards)…:-) Non cyclists are welcome too.
Just that the chalet rental is $200. I don’t mind sponsor half :-))
EOs of 3rd Sat cycling event, what do u think?

  22. Hi June

I wld luv 2. Of cos, we wld share the cost among those who will be attending. Cost of food wld be additional. Attendance is by registration only. We didnt hv sth like that 4 a long long time. The aroma of barbeque n porklard is so irresistable.

Hi Ah Nee, Lily, Jade n Douglas

    Over 2 u guys.

  23. Hi Yew Kwong,

Thanks for sharing. In the event you choose to cycle to Kota Tinggi, what speed are we looking at? Out of interest, please advise whereabouts is Karimun?

    Cheers,
    Grace Kok

  24. June & Yew Kwong,

I support June’ idea of having the Chalet at EC during one of our cycling event. But hor, not during July, we have our office D&D, and so happen its on the 3rd saturday of July. Alamak…..June you forgot huh? I suggest, we have it in August, next month not possible because of school holiday, think all the chalets will be fully booked. What about the rest, what is your views? June, I discuss with you tomorrow in office. Got to go my dancing lesson now……..

    Ah Nee

  25. Hi Grace

Need not 2 worry over the speed we will be going. M 100% sure the slow riders will not be left out n right far behind. Asked Thomas Goh he can vouch my words.

I will likely 2 try it out 1st nx mth.

  26. Hi AhNee…as discussed no prob on hving biking cum BBQ in Aug. I hope the silence from the other EOs means consent :-)).

And YewKwong…I guess u are in. Just to refresh…someone said something abt pinning people who say coming but in the end no come, to a huge dart board…:-)))

  27. Hi June

So the cycling cum BBQ shd take place in Aug 09 is confirmed “ON”.

Pinning ppl? Pin them on what n where? What shall do next? Very fresh n interesting ideas.

  28. Hi Grace,

I can vouch for YK’s tremendous patience in staying behind me at my tortoise speed all the time. I feel quite bad that he had to look after me, instead of riding at a faster speed with Lawrence.

  29. Hi Thomas

Thanks for your compliments. Nothing 2 feel bad abt. It’s more the feeling going as a group that counts n looking out 4 each others. Fun is all about us enjoying 2gether.

  30. Hello Thomas,

Knowing YK as a guardian angel makes him one of the best riders!

Dont fret, I am also at “tortoise” speed. We can ride together and gradually catch up to Laurence’s speed. By that time you shall be a better rider. Most importantly as YK had said it’s the company and enjoyment as a group.

If time permit, do join us at the National Runway happening this coming 21 June. There is no speed limitation.

    Cheers,
    Grace Kok
