“BOLLYWOOD NITE”

Greetings to all SHC members,  
My apologies for the delay on the "Bollywood Nite" event.
I eventually managed to find a good venue called “SITARA Restaurant & Lounge” which is located at Serangoon Road, just opposite MUSTAFA Centre. It is a 5minutes walk from Farrer Park MRT station and there are several buses going to the venue. There is a car park available for the patrons of the restaurant.  The charges will be $25 per pax  (minimum 30 pax and max 70 pax) for the whole lounge which comes with a DJ, music and dance floor. The charges include a North Indian buffet (Veg and non–veg dishes) and with a free flow of soft drinks.

The only problem is that we can only use it from 4 to 9pm as it will be open to the public after 9pm. Members who want to stay on after, will be welcomed to do so and will need to purchase their own drinks. I will post the buffet menu online by Thursday.

In the meantime, please feel free to give your comments and feedbacks if any. I would also appreciate if you revert on your interest for this event so that I can proceed to organize it upon getting 30 members and more. I further propose that we hold this event on a Saturday, sometime in July or Aug 09, so as to accommodate to the early timing offered by the restaurant management.

Dolly, would appreciate if you could help me check our events calendar for an appropriate date for this event.  Once the date is confirmed, I would like to start collecting our individual shares and book the lounge in advance. 

I would also like to set up an organizing committee so as to make this event a success. Positions for Secretary, Treasurers and Games Organisers are open. If you would like to assist me and organise the event, please email me at gengha_n@yahoo.com.    Awaiting your favourable replies.

    There is a lot of interesting Bollywood dances and songs in this Hindi movie entitled “Mehbooba” with English and Bahasa Melayu subtitles which I came upon by chance as I like the movie cast and strong story plot.

    A very moving story abt 2 emotionally attached brothers Shravan Dhariwal and Karan falling in love with 1 beautiful maiden called Varsha who values self-respect and morality much more than money and glamour and ………..

    Location in Lake Udaipur Palace,Rajasthan , New York and Bulgaria.

    Seeing is believing.

    #189 Tim Liu… In particular, I remember this lady in black. Altho a little big, her size belied her slick danz steps which jived sweetly with the fast tempo of the music. She was so invigorated that you could tell she could dance all nite, and she did.

If not for all your support and participation, this event would not have been this fun and exciting. It was nice to know that everyone enjoyed the night as much as we did.   26. I left the Sitara at about 8.45 p.m. with my heart still throbbing after all the pounding of sound and seeing the raunchy fury set free. It was a huge success made possible only because of the good work of Dhevi, Sekaran, with Rooy, Hamidah, Francis helping out……and everyone who worked so hard to make it a nite to remember. Thank you all.

    Dancing was hot (how nice if the traditional Indian wear is figure hugging) and spilled from the stage down to the floor. The gals were spontaneous and took to the music without coaxing. They all appeared seasoned to hip-hop and bollywood danz as if they had all started dancing while still in gestation.

    In particular, I remember this lady in black. Altho a little big, her size belied her slick danz steps which jived sweetly with the fast tempo of the music. She was so invigorated that you could tell she could dance all nite, and she did.

    Then there was this gal who seemed to exhibit some kind of spasm. Ironically, that made her very suited to the zing, the beat of bollywood.

    (The nite was so great that I had no hesitation skipping my usual karaoke nite)

    Not least, I think I must learn to sing the beautiful songs played at Sitara. Presently, I lose out at karaokes as my songs don’t last more than 3 minutes compared with Hokien songs which can be as long as 5 minutes.

    Now, armed with these bollywood songs, I can be up on the k’ok stage to sing forever, hehe…………………

  29. Wow, I can only visualise and envy the colorful display of Indian/Punjabi dresses at Sitara Lounge. I had planned to come but unfortunately I was admitted suddenly for a gall bladder surgery last week. I am fine now.

    A big THANK YOU to you for this event. It’s a great job done – (borrowing Terence’s words)…”starting from nothing to something last Saturday”. It’s courage, hardwork, dedication and sincerity, blend into one.

    Indeed, it was very nice of Dhevi to doll us up with her own supply of Indian costumes and jewelleries. Poor girl, she has the whole load to wash after the party.

    The party was fun, food was good and the dancers were fantastic. Terence, you really missed the Night! No denying most of us missed your presence initially but once the Bollywood music was in full swing, you were far from our mind. (Just joking; I wish you well and hope to see you soon.)

    Thanks to Hamidah for teaching the 2 dances and also to all the Bollywood supporters, for making the event such a wonderful and memorable one.

    This is our final update for the Bollywood Nite. The event will be held as planned on 27 Jun 09 from 5pm to 9pm at Sitara Restaurant and Music Lounge. We are expecting about 35 members. Registration is still open to members, but please do register by 26 Jun, 12 noon as we need to amend the dinner strength with the restaurant.

    The restaurant is located along Serangoon Road opposite Serangoon Plaza (i.e. Old Mustaffa centre). The entrance of the Music Lounge is located on the 1st Floor along Burmah Road. You may refer to the map given by Mr Francis in the Bollywood forum # 149.

    There are a total of 10 car park lots (front and back of the restaurant) for the restaurant customers. However, if it is occupied, then you may park at Birch Rd, Burmah Rd, Roberts Rd or Perumal Rd, which is along Serangoon Road and Race Course Road.

    Public Transport: Bus No 21,23,64,65,66,125,130,139 & 1470 or MRT( Farrer Park Stn) which is only about 5 minutes to the restaurant.

    The program for the day is as follows:

    1700hrs to 1800hrs : Arrival of SHC members,
    Getting to know new members
    1800hrs to 1815hrs : What is Bollywood !!!!!
    1815hrs to 1830hrs : Photo taking(while you are fresh)
    1830hrs to 1930hrs : Buffet Dinner
    1930hrs to 2000hrs : Bollywood Dance
    2000hrs to 2015hrs : Competition for Best Dressed and
    Best Dancer
    2015hrs to 2055 hrs : Full Swing of Bollywood Dance
    2100 hrs: Bye : Good Bye Bollywood Nite

    Those who wants to stay back to continue the night at the Music Lounge may feel free to do so by purchasing your own drinks.

    Dress code: Indian attire,smart or casual.

    i guess there is no dress code for this event.Just wear whatever comfortable to you.So long you feel beautiful inside, u will always too.

    As for me i will turn up in a suit that suitable for an elephant’s wear.If luck side me i shall metamorphose into a dainty figure waltzing thru the event with a dashing gentleman.

    As u know once we reach this transition age we tend to loose our lustre and end up with a vampire the slayer and i guess got to leave earlier.

But, really, I wont know what to do up there or where to park myself except to move about like a leftover laundry pole. So my place of solace will still be at the gallery where, if luck is with me, I might meet and chat up a Cinderella or her wicked step-mother Sitonmylaplah.

    I am truly happy for Dhevi, as the EO, that we have exceeded the minimum headcount of 30 but saddened that Sengh may not be able to join us. Wonder what’s happening to him as he was the brainchild of this Bollywood Nite and was very excited over it. Hope he could brave all, conquer all to attend.

    Although we managed to get the minimum of 30 pax for the Bollywood Nite, those who are interested may still come forward to register. We still have till 25 Jun to keep the Restaurant informed if there is an increase in attendance for the Bollywood nite. The more the merrier……….

    So do consider, even if you cannot dance, you would be able to see our Bollywood Dancers and have a North Indian dinner.

    I have been following up on the Bollywood, and I like to express my sincere whatever you call it for your courage in raising your hand and the efforts you have put in to organise this event. Also, thank you Sekaran who has been in support in the background.

    Something happened over the weekend and I was unable to attend the mthly gathering which I would not miss if I was in Singapore. I had also cancelled all my flights and was not able to meet up with my wife and son in Bkk.

    In fact, I time to arrive a short while before the bollywood night, but this has to change. Looks like I won’t be able to do much before end June. But I am well.

    It’s not too late. I everyone to support Bollywood night, this is our 1st Indian hiphop Bollywood disco night, organised by our fellow Indian members for all SilverHairs. You can be sure, we will have other such culture nights.

    Dhevi, you have my full support.I have not given you any advisory support as I see this will be one of your greatest challenges as the Event Organiser, starting from nothing to something this Saturday, running from here to there, and managing all the comments and advices from fellow members.

    Go ahead, go full steam ahead, and enjoy the early event event. Nothing is impossible. Just a few moons more.

    feature below your big “Bollywood Nite” post. From there,
    your post will show up like when you first created it.

    You can then update whatever info you’ve already put in,
    including editing the namelist which I believe you made on
    your 2nd update. You can update the “Paid” status against their names as well.

    I attended the Chinese New Year lunch and would not want to miss this opportunity to support the Bollywood Nite and help myself to the pomp & fun this culture has so charmed the world with even if it’s not to be program-filled. There will be occaions for me to mingle with the people on the streets outside, perhaps walk a bit down the road to catch up with Ms Desker and Mr Rowell, and then step back into the Sitara for another icy drink.

I dont (rather, cant) dance but it being a novelty appeals and taking in the sight inside and outside of the Sitara shd be worth braving thru the Saturday crowd along Serangoon Rd.

    In yr condiments, i note there’s this PAP AD. Watching it do the belly danz in a bollywood setting will make many look at it differently thenceforth. Do extend yr invite to WP AD, SDP AD or even DAP AD and further north, PAD AD…………..

The Music Lounge will be ours for the stated time and outsiders will not be allowed to enter. The lounge will be opened for public at 2130hrs and those who want to stay may continue, but need to purchase drinks.

    Finally the Bollywood Night is getting fine tuned with about 10 members showing support. Hope that you could get another 20 members or more by mid June.     Thanks for the feedback, I thought it’s a Saturday and most of us work half day and it would be ok for us to gather at abt 4 to 5 pm. Also it is in a centralized location with the MRT station and many buses passing by here. Outsiders will not enter as we would booked for ourself till 9 pm.

    I solely agree with you that its not easy to organise an event, But I had tried my level best to look for an appropriate music lounge , with DJ, dance floor and served with dinner at $25 dollars per pax. This music lounge is quite cosy and beautiful. I choose this lounge because there is a dance floor, DJ, delicious north Indian food with free flow of soft drinks. I will check and update on the corkage charges as requested .
    I personally went down to the Oxford Hotel to look at the place but it is not appropriate for this event as it is small size, a small stage and not appropriate for this theme.. And as for Mambo, few of our members had feedback that the toilets are far away from the studio and the surroundings are a little inconvenient.

    Seriously, it is really not easy to organize an event. Thanks for the running around etc so far.

    Although I still cannot commit yet, now is the time to give feedback before it’s too late. The time slot is kind of odd as mentioned by June Lim #5. Is this the best the management can do? Afterall, it is a private party.

    As for ‘party crashers’ – outsiders that is, what kind of assurance do we have from the management?

    The package (price etc) sounds fine. What about corkage? Some members may want to bring alcohol.

    Have you spoken etc to Osford hotel as suggested by Dan in your original thread? Do let us know.

    If I think of anything else, will ask again.

    The odd hour at Sitara may seem a setback, at $25 per pax with dance floor, a DJ and a North Indian buffet is certainly an attraction!

    At this rate how dos it compare with Mambo Dance floor and Osford Hotel which permit regular hours from 6.00pm-12.00 at $17 per pax with buffet at Osford. What about Mambo, can it offer better terms?

    Without a DJ would have no appeal, can we do with cd or engage a mobile band?

  212. Bollywood Nite…wondering what the EOs have in mind for us, but it should be interesting….. because never experience before. And Tim is a bit worried and sceptical
    about the peace & order of this Bollywood Nite. Not sure if the management has enough manpower to ensure this private function turns out smoothly?

    As you can see in a party, some will go mad when the music is at its peak and may go barefooted to do the Indian / Bollywood dance. hehehee……we don’t want to lose our shoes, especially Norlinda’s shoe (she buys expensive shoes)….

    Dhevi, you may want to recruit Tim as a bouncer for this event. Tim, remember to put on your leather jacket, sunglasses….spiky boots, though spiky hairstyle is in fashion now, and then you stand beside the entrance like an incredible hunk…..I bet you, any outsiders passing by, will for sure to “siam” (avoid) this place…..how about that? :)

  214. Elsewhere, Dolly-L mentioned that Hog’s Breath has done its last biz and I aint surprised. With the swine flu scaring everybody to no end, all hogs are throttled.

    If Sitara is to open to the public only after 9 p.m., then it will have to keep to that time. Btwn 4-9 p.m. it’s to be strictly off-limit to outsiders. Nevertheless, the streaming in of the usual patrons and crowd in the early evening, unaware that it’s booked for a private function, can be expected. So, the management must ensure that these people will be kept out, and to do that, they must have enough manpower. This is one promise the management will have to, not only undertake but do otherwise our Bollywood party can turn rowdy, raucous and some of us might lose our shoes.

    Altho no dancer, I am tentatively for it if it’s in July, the last month for me to go mad, go bad before going back on track.
