Shirley Yuen – Profile

Hello Everyone!

I’m an ‘old’ new member – signed up several years back but was not active but am more free now so hope to be able to get to know you over the next few months. For a start, I’m on the upcoming trip to Padang.

I’m in-between jobs, just finished a stint at an international school which is now on its summer break. I’m an avid reader, currently it’s Philosophy. I enjoy yoga stretches and bends so I don’t freeze up and swim whenever I get near a pool.

  1. Shirley, you enjoy yoga, I enjoy yoyo. So if it comes the day when you decide not to stretch & bend but to yo and yo and make onlookers go gaga, get in touch with me….and then you wont want to stretch or bend anymore until such time our backs bend naturally and cant be stretched out no matter how hard we try.

    All said, welcome !

  2. Hi Shirley,

“swim whenever I get near a pool.”

Rose White loves swimming during her leisure time and she wanted to me to organise a swimming day, preferably on a Sunday Morning. If you are interested, please do contact me francisemail@yahoo.com

  3. Shirley & Tim,

I am practise yoga too. We engaged a guru to teach us after work at our office, twice a week. We do mainly hatha yoga, what about you? Are you attending any yoga class?

  4. Ooops, sorry Lilian, I dont do the yoga. I practise yo yo and unless she is a belly-dancer, I dont need a guru. And best folks like me dont need a classroom or studio setting to yo……we can yo in a kopitiam, at any bus-stop, in the mrt, even while in a sporepools queue. We dont need to dress in proper attire for it.

The benefits of yoga and yoyo are about the same, I think.

  5. Hello Francis and all of the above who wrote,

Sorry its taken me awhile to get back to you. I was in Padang and on my return, life became a whirl.

Tks for the offer of swims – Sunday can get crazy busy but am willing to squeeze a swim in – is the venue by any chance in the East?

I believe we haven’t met yet.
Don’t let all the ‘politics’ get to you. The trick is to ‘sift’ through the comments and read the ones that appeal to you.

Avoid being drawn into the furore and sometimes stupid comments unless absolutely necessary.

Yes, you are right. Some people, both men and women, need to do some growing up.

Life is short and we are here to make friends, not tear each other to shreds or make fun of ,or run down, others.
Hope to meet you at the next SHC gathering. :-)

  7. Hi Shirley,
I read somewhere dat u posted comt on d Padang trip which reli got caught me by surprise.

I had always tot dat Padang trip was reli enjoyable doe there were some disagreements here n there but managed 2 settle amicably – Not meh or am I wrong :(
Going on a group tour is definitely much different from tose of solo trip whereby it is more carefree as no compromise needed. Group tour need alot of compromises n understandings – This is my point of view.

Aiya, different ppls hv different defintion on the word “growing up” n we cant expect others 2 hv d same wavelength unless there is 2 similiar 2, tio bo? N I am sure tese ladies will agreed 2 tis oso. Unless, u r referring 2 me lor. Hopefully not, keeping my fingers x.

In our age, growing up is no longer an issue n there is nothing wrong being abit immature/childish or playful at times.

Lately, we hv lots of clash of Titians n hopefully my comt will not start a war of d Amazons hor.. No offence meant.. Cheers.. and be happy.

Lastly, no further commts will b frm me aft this.. Dolly

  8. Hi Shirley / Dolly ,

…..At our age, growing up is no longer an issue n there is nothing wrong being a bit immature/childish or playful at times.

I too totally AGREE with Dolly’s above statement. Esp. in a big grp travelling to Padang it is good to let our hair down once in a while.

I must confess that traveling with our FUN SHC grp to Ho Chih Ming city and Padang was more ENJOYABLE than traveling with my own family members to Perth and Silk Road,China .

Why? I can “GILA” “GILA” at anytime with our grp members and had more freedom to explore the place. With family, it is a “herd” instinct.

  9. Hi Shirley Yuen ,

Now is the right time I speak my mind.

When you GATE CRASH at the last moment to join us at Padang,
we expected an APOLOGY from you when you were given a chance to introduce yourself to us in the tour bus in Padang.

Most of us were actually EXPECTING an apology from you for
GATE CRASHING but instead we were VERY DISAPPOINTED that you even dare to justify that you enjoy doing things at the last minute sometimes. :(

  10. Steven Chan

Wow! wow! after two weeks on the silk road and a great StevenC is back on track. Ease your sentiments and mind.
Good for inner peace and tranquility in such a ‘stressful’
and ‘exciting’ club like Silverhairs. Hahahaaaaa!

  11. Hi Steven, welcome back, glad you’re back in 1 piece.

  13. I don’t remember what Steven Chan looks like, but it confirms what I said first time – I rest my case. Will not expend any more energy on this as I retire to contemplate my navel – at short notice of course – in some far-off land…….
