Dear folks,
When we decided on the Flea Mart, i kaypo want to include the Games Day and include Mahjong competition but it just didn’t tickle your bones! Then we got the idea how about having a Carnival Day and having a jam session, again we have lukewarm response. Mati lah how to go ahead we have fixed cost to worry about! The caterer insists on one hundred pax for us to enjoy a good rate, now I ‘gabra’, cannot sleep and started counting sheep, still no help!
Next day I got a bright idea, how about Flea Mart and Monthly Gathering? No need to worry about food catering, we got Ya Kun to the rescue!
So die die this event is on and I apologised to fellow members and those who booked a booth I gave up too easily. I wanted to run and hide and go into hibernation, but have nowhere to hide! Now you all know why the EO always want to bang his head on the wall!
So, dear folks mark this day on your calendar and come give us your support!

Thanks Lor Si Leng, I will do that as I am desperately trying all avenues to get their attention and responses.
Joy’s POSB saving Account is up, please do the transfer for all those taking a stall.
Some of you may not heard of Safra Mount Faber, do check the link provided and you will find how easy to get there. The parking charge at Safra is $2.00 for member and $3.00 for non-member after 6.00pm, You may also park at the HDB block across the road.
Madeline #39, ATM is only found at the HDB block opposite Safra.
Dan
Dan, as this is a SHC event, only SHC members are allowed to book a booth and I reckon not ALL members check this website but rely on fellow members to email them of forthcoming events. Perhaps, you can email all the members (with Terence’s help) to let them know about this Flea Mart?
Kaypoh Ros
Hi Jassmine, you have a good point there. Those having in mind to do a swop do indicate here. It would help to know what is expected and an amicable exchange can be done.
Dan
Hi Danz @# 42,
Re. swopping of things at Flea Mart. I think we need to know what is available for exchange beforehand, otherwise if we see nothing suitable to exchange on Flea mart day, we’ll have to bring our barang back.
I have a suggestion: All who have something they want to exchange including books, mention their things/book titles in this thread. This will be the list of items available for exchange. The next part is if there’s something you wish to exchange from the list of items (which includes yours) you could let the other party know and see if s/he is willing to exchange. If there’s a match, both bring your barang on Flea mart day to exchange.
My 2 cents’ worth.
Hi Dianagee,
Thanks for your support, see you on that day!
Just a few day back I learned of a new idea for the Flea Mart, we will have a book exchange booth and who would like to take on this task?
Jassmine, your post on barter, trade, swopping of items, can you implement it here? If any folks have any things that lying home and not in use, you may bring it here for an exchange.
Any member into manicure or pedicure and what not you may also ply your trade here! If you have any crazy ideas do share with us. We want to fill up the big air-conditioned hall. This opportunity may not come again not for a long while!
Danz4Joy
Hi Dan, I like to take one table 3ft x 3ft to sell my barang barang (clothings, bag&shoes) Thanks
Hi Madeline Tan,
I will gladly check on the ATM situation and revert!
Dan
Just in case some folks end up buying this and that at the upcoming Flea Market unexpectedly until no moolah left, is there an ATM nearby?
Dear members
Looks like more hard selling is needed for this coming event!
Terence, a man of vision and dreams, had formed this club that had allowed us to make new friends. Many events or ideas that were generated by him had good support from the members who helped bring the ideas to fruition. Take for example the ‘Stars In Concert’. I thought it would be a tremendous task but with the support and commitment from fellow members, it came about and was a great success!
I appeal to fellow members to come forward and take part in this project to make another dream come true.
The take up rate for the table space is slow. I am cracking my head how to attract more takers. One booth could be a membership booth to recruit new members but I will need a sponsor and volunteers to man it. Another booth could be a karaoke booth and those who want to sing can pay a small fee to help defray the cost of renting the hall.
Some of us may be wondering why we have the flea mart at Safra Mount Faber and if there will be people to patronise our stalls. On this very day there is a Singing Competition and we can expect some crowd as the competition is also opened to the public. Other facilities at Safra include a large bowling centre, a billiard and snooker room, an olympic-size pool, various restaurants and Ya Kun. So we can be assured that there will be human traffic.
Besides the bazaar, we will also have the badminton players occupying one of the three courts from 1.00-5.00pm and our October monthly meeting from 5.00-9.00pm.
I look forward to participation from members and sincerely hope that we can help make this event a success.
Danz4Joy
Hi Jassmine,
Badminton and picket ball may or may not be on depending on response, anyway the hall is the size of three courts and the innermost court is to be utilised.
Pretty good idea of having ‘buskers’ around, any takers?
The Mahjong will be held in a separate room with 4 tables.
Dan
Hi Dan @# 35,
Just thinking aloud a concern –
If badminton is held at the same time as the flea mart, won’t it affect the crowd at the flea mart? – unless the flea mart is at one end of the long hall and badminton is at the other end and the crowd is not expected to be large. Same concern for picket ball demo.
Regarding holding a talk, perhaps we can have ‘buskers’? Nice to have musicians ‘serenading’ in the ‘market place! ;)
Hope MJ is in a different room, not in the same multi-purpose hall.
Cheers,
Hi Lor Si Leng,
I will check again whether snacks okay or not and revert.
Jassmine, you do have some very interesting items for sale. Calling fellow members please come forward and give us your support.
Annto and Janet, thanks for coming for the monthly gathering.
We have the whole air-conditioned hall to ourselves. Anyone wanting to hold a talk on any topic are welcome. Besides the Flea Mart, the mahjong session will be on provided we have enough kakis.
Badminton will be on from 1.00-300pm and a demonstration on Picket ball, a form of indoor tennis will be held from 3.00-5.00pm provided I can get someone to teach. We are open to more ideas, let it flows!
Dan
Hi Dan,
“Confirmed attendance” please, for Janet Chan and a “tentative” one for myself as I may not be in town on that day.
Thanks,
Hi Dolly @# 32,
Thanks for info. Never mind, there’s always another time, tio bo? Hope to see you there on Flea mart day.
Cheers,
Jas, sad 2 disappoint u hor.. but Sam Huat3 is not able 2 go 2 flea market as he is not free on dat day la… Dolly
Hi Dan @# 29
I don’t think profit or bottomline issues are uppermost on our minds when we participate in SHC flea marts.
Like to do a little soft launch: I’ll be displaying some books, some clothes (to test the market for ‘branded’ 2nd hand clothes), and miscellaneous items including a computer screen filter (‘new’) and a new-looking, lightweight, black laptop bag with useful compartments for documents, stationery, etc.
Anyone interested can contact me (kdaae2005@hotmail.com)… am hoping for pre-sale so can bring other items on Flea mart day. lol!
*Sam Huat3 – I said I’ve got something very suitable for you to get for your leading lady, remember? So come visit my stall and see, hor.
Dan, no edibles? Not even snacks? I’m not selling cooked food mah.
Hi Lor Si Leng,
Thanks for taking two tables, dun worry the hall is quite big and you can also display on the floor. Almost anything okay but no edible stuffs.
So folks take the excuse to clear your storerooms, you never know there may be some items that justify your taking a table space for our 2nd Flea Mart!
Calling for more enterprising people to make this a memorable event,
I have not decided on what to sell yet, but during the last Flea Mart I got consignments of costume jewelleries, tupperware and even ice-creams for sale. Not really make much money but just enjoying myself trying new experiences. So folks you can do the same, tables still got and waiting for you!
Danz4Joy
Dan, can I take another table? That means, I’m taking 2 tables. I’m afraid a 3 feet x 3 feet table will not be enough for all my barang barang.
Am I being too ambitious? *scratch head*
Thank you
Lor Si Leng
Dan, my husband was looking for some documents and I told him it could be in the storeroom. As I took out boxes and boxes of stuff out and opened each and everyone of them, I discovered I have a LOT of knick knacks that are either new and hence, unused or rarely used. This is not to say, the items are useless but it’s just that through the years I’ve acquired just too much stuff!
I’ve never participated in a flea market or garage sale before so I hope there’ll be people who’ll find the items I have useful to them.
I guess my table will consists of an assortment of non-edible and edible goods.
Ros
Hi Lo Si Leng,
appreciate the concern, about 30 tables space! Just a while ago I was with Joy at the hall at Safra, we were walking round and round wondering how the space will be taken up. Maybe I should gather all the badminton players to come forward to support. One court to be allotted from 1.00-5.00pm for them to cover some cost!
Danz4Joy!
Dan, how many tables must be taken for you to break even?
If terok, then I’ll take 2 tables. I can ask my friends what they want to sell then I’ll help them sell lor. Maggie can help in the event my hands are full. Thank you Maggie hor. That’s what old friends are for.:)
Thanks Maggie for being the first to sign up, now what early bird prize should you get?
Dan
Hi Dan
Pls put my name in for the gathering and look see look see at flea market. Also curious to see what fleas Ros is bringing from BKK and USA, haha.
Dear folks,
So far nine booths for the flea mart have been taken. We hope that more will come forward to make this event a happening! The Multi-purpose hall will be booked from 1.00pm – 9.00pm for the bazaar and our monthly gatherings.
A table space of 3×3 feet go for $20 or to occupy the floor space equivalent to a table space go for $10. This is a win-win situation if you have any items to sell or swop or barter here.
We are open to any form of selling or promoting of new products here. The size of the air-conditioned hall is the size of three badminton courts. Do a good deed lah and help to defray the cost of renting the hall you good folks of SHC!
The Flea mart will operate from 1-00pm – 7.00pm, our monthly gathering proper from 5.00pm – 9.00pm. I mentioned before that we want something different for our gathering, so what can we come up with? Frisna has yet to confirm the skit as she is manning a stall.
How about a karoeke night, I am thinking aloud! Anyone with a karoeke system to loan to us? A fee of $? will be charge for those wanting to sing and be talent scouted. The fee will help us to pay for the rent of the hall.
We are open to anyone who have idea to hold a small meeting here too as the hall is available for us to use. We can make as much noise as possible as the public have no access from 7.00pm onward.
The following have indicate their booking of a booth here. There are Terence,Dan, joy,Jassmine,James Tan, Anna Seet, Feztus, Frisna and Rosalind Lee. Thanks folk for helping this make it happen! Please also specify the items you will be putting up for display.
Danz4Joy!
Dan, I will book a table from you. Haven’t any idea what to sell…
I’m going to Bangkok from the 3rd – 7th October and then to Dallas USA from the 22nd -28th October. I don’t think the members here will like all the chapalang from Chatuchak Market in Bangkok but I think Thai snacks will be well accepted. In Dallas, I can get cowboy accessories…but not boots as they’re too heavy. See how lor……cannot be too expensive also. But I won’t be marking the stuff for sale at a high price otherwise nobody buys and I D-I-E!
Good luck to this event!
Hi Nor,
As ever as the sun shine you bring joy to the occasion! Come with your entourage and have a blessed and hilarious time.
Danz4Joy!
Hi Dan
I am coming to look see & jalan2 at the fleamarket..& then have a great evening at the hilltop with all my shcians..
Mt Faber..not bad at all..we can hv romantic dinner!..hehe
So..boys & girls..please come to this event & lets party!
Hi James,
Thanks for your kind comment, we are far from getting the required supporters to take a table or a floor space. I must start visiting all the flea mart in Singapore to lure them over on condition that they become member. Help, I am at my wit’s end!
The Flea Mart and Games Day was a workable plan as member only need to pay for the games of their interest. It just killing two birds with a stone, three if we have a mahjong competition!
The idea of the Carnival was because of some wise guy putting up for suggestion and I fell for it. Why not, we can have Flea Mart fun fair, T-dance and singing jamboree and after all we book the whole hall and it not cheap to look for another venue to hold a separate event. It the cost factor that causes the committee to call it off.
I am still not sure of who you meant, a 4 in 1?
Dan
Hi Dan#12,
You are getting smarter now.
Good luck to your final attempt at the Flea Market.
Sorry you got stoned instead.
However, if you want to know how to kill more than 3 birds
with 1 stone, pls refer to the lady (killer) will can do
a 4-in-1. She attended your board game gathering at Adonai
last last month. No prize for guessing who.
To your success,
james
Hi June Lim,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really wish that we can have Games Day at Safra Mount Faber. As a member here which cost only about $30.00 a year we have access to various kind of activities.
Bowling, snooker, billiard, swimming and mahjong are charged at a very nominal rate. The ambience here is like a country club. It for those of us who have serve our national service.
The carnival day was quite an ambitious affair, perhaps we can do it next year, so is the Halloween Night. I hope that by the end of this year I can ‘retire’ from organizing and let other have a go at it!
There is plan for a Talentime this year with live bands as background, hope Dolly can appoint someone to be EO. You will get a chance to wear your cowgirl suit in one of these event!
Dan
Dan…It is people like you that makes the club ticks, who thinks of fun avenues for club members. Although the carnival did not materialise, I would like to say…Dear Dan, thank you very much for planning the carnival…thank you. :-)) even though I wont be able to get into my cowboy suit. :-))
Lelong lelong!!
Did you know you have money all over your home, take a look around and find the things that you don’t use any more like that old computer, bike, camera, toys, antiques, and the list is endless.
You can look at your old books and find the ones with self help, and the paper backs is always in demand! You can also sell craft supplies that you dun need any more, old toys that the kids grew out of, doll house and furniture.
Dun be surprised what people will buy, and why they want old junk. Some of the less fortunate can get things they can’t afford because you aren’t going to sell it at new prices.
If Terence has old condoms to sell what other crazy items do our folks out there have for sale.
Take a table at $20.00 or peddle your wares on the floor for $10.00 only! The Multi-purpose Hall at Safra is the size of 3 badminton courts and it is air-conditioned.
Make some pocket money here and show your business streak you never realised was there!
Dan
Hi Geraldine,
Do let me know once you have finalised your schedule to visit Perth because I may want to live some months in S’pore next year.
HC
Hi Yew Kwong,
The cost per table is $20.00. No need to pay to attend the Flea Mart and Monthly Gatherings.
James, yes reluctantly so this is the final answer. Date and venue is firm!
It back to the basic as you recommended, no more bright ideas from all corners. I was trying to kill three birds with one stone but I got stoned instead!
Dan
Hi Danz,
Glad that you’ve resurrected the flea mart -pah see buay chow, tio bo?
Ok, I’ll take a table. I’ll be leaving the venue by 6.30pm… can I get 20% off the rental? Just joking.
Cheers,
Hi Dan,
I’m glad you have made a comeback despite 2 earlier failed attempts. Keep it up, as they said “Failure is the mother
of success”.
Having said that, can you confirm that this will be your
final post on the Flea Market, and that the venue and date
is firm.
I’m sure many SHCians will be glad to support you again once they have this assurance.
james
Hello Terence,
Nevermind your used condoms…….kakakkakaaaaa. Simply throw them away once YOU used them. My HK girlfriends screamed and yelled at me until I almost fall off from my bar stool……..gosh………..very, very stessed!! All in the name of SHC.
Lots of love,
Dear HC,
my bad spelling – absolutely…………I think…..kekkekekee. You know what I am talking about.
Dear Hou Chong,
Lived in Sydney for five years way back…………does not mean anything. Now my dear girlfriend is already thinking of London and Pareee…….she knows my weakness………first things first. Perth!!
Hey Hou Chong,
Wished you were there on 17 Aug!! You know, may (may) drop by in Perth next year with my dear, dear girlfriend (without her hubby I hope, I know…………..). Let me know. She lives in Gold Coast and very stressed that I have not visited her in…….erm, let’s not go there. She certainly gave me a piece of her mind and absoutely and absoutely must visit her (next year) and planning to drop by Perth which I’ve never been……………
Hi Terence,
There are many articles about “Ming Kia Yu” on the website. These can be viewed by doing a google search for “four thieves oil”. The site which I personally liked best, is the one found on this link:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4947972_treat-flu-homemade-thieves-oil.html
Next time you hear someone said “no worries”, you know that this oilment is working….hehe.
HC
Hi Terence,
Thanks for the encouragement! We will go for it and make it happen.
Chinese New Year Year is early this year, those with barangs to clear can take a table. We have the whole big hall to ourselves and can accomodate all kinds of things.
Jassmine, hope to see you at the mart.
This monthly gathering is going to be different We will includes a few items that have not been done before.
Eileen Thean, how about putting up the skit ‘A trip to Geylang’ here. We are open to more ideas to be presented during the gatherings!
Dan
Hi Dan,
You know I am there for whoever the EOs are!! Keep the spirit………….. Hopefully, will be back in Dec (subject to my princesess’ timetable – one in freshmen and the other in Y11).
All my love,
Hi Dan, so glad to see “DanzforJoy” again,,,
When I saw “DanzforNoJoy!”I felt so sorry for you after all the hard work you put in and Nor blowing the trumpet so hard, at the end it was cancelled.. I can imagine how you bang your head on the wall,,,well as the saying goes
“one door closes the other open” there’s always a way out..
Now I die die must come and support you lah…
cheers,,,,Eileen-T
Hi Dan,
When I saw the Flea mart was cancelled, I was so worried because I cannot imagine how long it will take to finish the “used condoms”. Well, now I can sell them.
Hou Chong, I am secretly wanting to sell your “Ming Kia Yu” (No Fear oil). Can give me your secret receipe so that I can prepare the herbs and bottle them.
Thanks Dan for making the event possible.
Terence Seah
