Henry Yip – Member Profile

Hi Everyone, I come to know SHC through the ST, I have been following SHC’s activities, at first out of curiosity and then admiration for what Terence, his fellow founders & all the volunteer EOs of this very good club has done & is continuing to do.

We all know that Singaporean’s ability to always find solutions to their challenges are lengendary!!. Now I’m a proud member of SHC and proud to be associated with such exceptional Singaporeans in the club. Exceptional Singaporeans who collectively, would take the bull by the horns, and face future challenges bravely & with resolve. Resolved that by their collective efforts, their future can definitely be happily brighter ones!!. SALUTE !!

Coming back closer to the surface of our earth, I like to smell the grass, like in our recent EXTreme Ramble!! ( EO Jeff & Joyce ) something I would not ever have done on my own!! Nooks & corners of this lovely island I never thought existed. Or what about that ‘Yum Seng’ all night long, interspeared with flexing dancing muscles at the Kovan( EO AhNee ). Having known Sue Chan since our French classes @ Alliance Francaise several years ago, I joined her small group ‘hanging-out in Phnom Penh for 4 days together with Co-EO, Jeff Lim. All these activities are experienced with the overflowing warmth & camaraderie of fellow SHCians. Thank you very very much!!

I agree with Terence, our inspirational Founder, that the immediate challenge for us is the Male_Female ratio. As a result of this ratio, there’s less dynamism than we would have expected in our events & activities. I believe a brain-storming session on this issue would be beneficial for the convergence on the disparity.

As I have moved to the other side of my own century, I feel great that there’s such a great club like SHC. I look forward to joining more events, and meeting many other fellow SHC’ians. I have even adopted Jonathan’s post as my personal motto : ” May the rest of your life be THE BEST OF YOUR LIFE”.

  1. Dear Henry,

Accueillez à bord de SHC ~ Welcome aboard SHC! Its been more than 23 years since we last met @ Alliance Francaise, and you’re still very eloquent in your spoken French, my dear buddy! With a vivid personality of yours, continue to be active, participate, and contribute your views at certain threads which may be of interest to you. Be it sports, health, or just leisure, SHC do have different events and activities that will inspire you to meet more members of your same frequency. You’re already one of SHC vibrant members to start with..

This para is to record my sincere thanks to you for being so gallant in joining me, Jeff and 8 gorgeous ladies to P.Penh last weekend. You are extremely helpful & supportive to fellow members throughout the whole trip!~~ Thank you, Buddy!

    Cheers!

  2. Hi Henry,

A very warm welcome to the Club! You write very eloquently and has a colourful personality. We are glad to have your participation in the various activities organized here.

It may come to you as a shock but Dan and Joy are pretty well acquaintd with you. Those were the days of FC and PP more than twenty years ago. Remember our tussle on the mahjong table and I understand that you have not got our it. Let’s me appeal to your magnanimity to forgive and forget that incident and begin a new chapter in our lives, how dat?

We certainly look forward to your fellowship and support in the days to come.

    Dan

  3. Hi Henry

Wow! you’re finally up in the profile page. Just to re-welcome you to SHC. So very glad to have met and know your great personality in our recent PP trip, ever the gracious gentleman. It is wonderful that you have already participated in the many interesting activities and met superb members. As you have said, like me, I would not have taken part of certain activities if left on my own.

This club has certainly open up a whole group of new friends and fascinating beginnings.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  5. Hi Maggie #1
Thank you for your kind words & warm welcome.
All of us made our PP trip fun, really.
I’m happy you mentioned about me having quit smoking. I would like to gently urge all smokers to also quit, use the money to go for more overseas holidays!! Hooray !!

    Hi Sue #2
Merci beaucoup! That’s about all I know in French. There were no french girls to practise with ( as promised ) to begin with LOL. Thank you again for your warm welcome !!

    Hi Dan #3
Many thanks for your warm welcome.
Actually right from the start, I’ve recognised yours & Joyce photo. I sincerely wish both of you the very best !!
There are a few things I regret in my life, one of them is allowing small missunderstandings to fester, too proud to pick up the phone, to hear it from the horses mouth. I quote you ”and I understand that you have not got our it”
Dan, we should go on the basis that we understand nothing untill we hear it from the horses mouth. If you’ve called me, I ‘ll say that it’s just a small misunderstanding and that there’s nothing to forgive and it’s not as serious as the way you have put it. One word of conciliation from you Dan, and we are brothers again!! But I respect you in that you brought up this small issue even into the open, you have nothing to hide, I really respect this.

Dan & Joyce, I certainly look forward to our fellowship and mutual support & friendship in the days to come.

    Hi Agnes #4,
Many thanks for your re-welcome, actually I want low profile lah.
quote ” This club has certainly open up a whole group of new friends and fascinating beginnings” I’ll cheers to that & more!!

After awhile the whole world will know that there’s a social revolution going on with the SilverHairs !!!

it almost feels like the Oscar Awards LOL
I think SHC is so much the richer with such a Classy Lady,
when she flash that cute smile, the whole world becomes alot brighter!!. yup, look forward to seeing you at the various events soon.

    Hi Norlinda #9
Many thanks for your warm welcome.
As I’ve mentioned above I’ve forgotten all my french, I didnt hv much interest in french and it was a sponsored class when I was with Banque Nationale De Paris. (BNP).

Thanks for yr greeting to Sue, talking about Sue & Cat, this two women of SHC can rub shoulders with Royalties and yet walk the ground with common men like me. That’s Sue & Cat for you.

I look forward to meeting up with you too Norlinda in future evenrs. cheers !

  10. A little bird told me that you’re a bit perplexed (or maybe not)that most of the people welcoming you are ladies. Anyway having met you at the Pipeline Ramble X-treme and gotten to know you better on the recent Phnom Penh trip, we don’t need further introduction. Welcome to SHC.

  11. “….. you’re a bit perplexed (or maybe not)that most of the people welcoming you are ladies..” Haha, like this also got one huh? Ok lor, I shall join hands with Jeff-L to welcome you and, well, you have come of age, finally yeah?

    ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  12. Chinese language is encouraged on this website. We hope all members will be comfortable.

On the left column of this website, there is a Page entitled “Translate Chinese to English”. Simply copy the Chinese text, and paste it into the box http://silverhairsclub.com/?page_id=3156.

Try it, have fun. Hope TimL and other Chinese users will make it easy for the Englishish users.

  13. Hi Jeff #11

Thanks, really appreciate your leadership in both the very enjoyable activities, namely the ramble & the Phnom Penh trip.

    Hi Tim #12
Thanks for your kindness. Many of us including Sylvia were very happy to see you at the laughter class on Tue evening.

    Hi Chief Terence #13
    Re Chinese language translation noted.

  14. Haha, Henry-Y, I got a shock when I entered the room at the tail-end of the session. 11 of you were laughing, some hysterically? some with the mouths wide open and jaws abt to drop, obviously all knowing not why they laughed. Scared stiff, I had to politely decline an elderly folk’s invite to sign up. Sorie, I am an antithesis of laughter but you guys do enjoy and hv fun.

    Thank you Terence.

I fervently wish that many in our midst who are more comfortable reading and writing the Chinese language will join us in this forum.

Personally, I like to see SHC as multi-racial. No race is spared of ageing and so should get on in years together as we did in growing up playing humtum bolah and catching spiders.

Thus, it’s refreshoing to read Norlinda, Abel, Rose White and Hamidah writing Malay occassionally, and in the process, drive thru a deeper meaning in what only that language can convey. There’s no equivalent replacement and be as forceful or ticklish for “apa macam”, “kesian” in English.

    ?????????????????????

All said, the writer must take responsibility and continue to observe the SHC OB limits in what he/she writes and in any language he/she writes. Politics etc remain taboos.

In my write, there’ll be occasions to ???? and see thru the ????.

  15. Hi TimL #15,

Fortunately, we share the same line of thought. I am not fluent in the Chinese language; so once in a while, I do a “Chinese to English” translation of what you write. So, far so good. Before I forget, there are compliments from members that your Chinese is better than your English.

    See you tomorrow.

    Terence Seah
