SHC monthly gathering – Tues, Aug 10, 2010 evening

We just had the D&D in July and would have the Beach Party soon at the end of August.  It’s about time, we have the regular monthly gathering at Hans.  For some, the excitement will be just being back from the kelong trip; for others, it will have been the National Day celebrations just over.  And, for others, the fun will be the beach party at Sentosa.

Time to just meet up, chat, plan your activities, pay back the dues from the World Cup, or maybe think about some charity events before the end of the year.  Maybe, how about making some money for retirement or better still do some planning for retirement.  Starting a business, climbing Mount Everest, go to Bandung, ladies chit chat, going up to HK to meet Geraldine, or going to see Ben Foo in Ho Chi Minh city.  Talk about the D&D or talk about the Prom night.  The regular monthly meeting is just a great way to meet.  What shall we do with the used pyjamas?  Aiyah, no end.  Plan and organise your hobbies group; meet and chat.  Now, for the details.

  • Date:  Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010
  • Time:  1600 to 2030 hrs.  Early session for those who are retired; and later session for those still working.
  • Place:  Hans Cafe at Great Eastern Building, Upper Pickering Street.
  • Charges:  Free, you are free to buy your own F&B at the counter.
  • Dress:  anything.

Other Details:

  • Bring your name tag; If you dont have, we will give you a sticky label to place on your dress/shirt.
  • Registration required.  Strictly for SHC members only.  If your SHC member friend is coming, please encourage him/her to register personally with the correct name.
  • Strictly no politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling or MLM.

  1. “…….. pay back the dues from the World Cup………”. So Santan Claus is coming to town and so his runaway reindeer will also run back to jump all over him.

The wife of an alleged killer diplomat is reported to hv gone mad. Silly of her when, with him remanded, wasnt it the best time to fool around with younger biys when during his heydays, he took socialiyes to parties and diplomatic functions leaving her lonely & sobbing at home?

That Tham character must hv a thumb screwed in his head to film 85 upskirts. Didnt he see enough at his age – I was already a see-n-evil-monkey at half his age. And why risk the camera capturing smoke had any of her victims farted? All backsides, according to Nature’s construction, are the same but only the butt of your love one stands out and shd be the one-n-only one kept in yr camera.

(But my camera does contain the butt of Santa Claus but it’s for a scientific purpose. Till now, his gender remains a x-file mystery and the Duch will look at it, with interrogation of santa if need be, to elicit the truth).

The above may be topics for discussion at the Money-Meeting.

  8. Good to see more members registering for the coming monthly gathering. Do check your name against the registration list.

And, if you like to meet members with certain hobbies or interests, do indicate here. You never know what are the interests of other members.

  9. Hi Terrence

In the name of Vanity, it will be great to hear fm those who have done face procedures, n hv taken collegen etc. to maintain their health and appearance plus those who have interest to visit Bandung someday.

    cheers
    freda

  10. Hi, I would like to ask for some help to men the registration table during the monthly gathering. Two persons, tick against the name list, give away sticky labels for those who name tags. Can be boy or girl.

    Terence Seah

  11. Hi Terence,
Sam and me will be attending this gathering. Anyone need a name tag, pls indicate here and if time permits, I will do 1 4u. However, no fanciful design, just plain with name printed bold and clear 4 everyone’s eyes lor… Cheers.. Dolly

  12. Hi Lydia,

I havent had anything in plan for the meeting, except to facilitate the usual get to know one another. If you have something in mind, that you would like to put up on that day, just let me know. I am sure it will be fun, and perfectly ok.

    Terence Seah

  13. As you know, usually, SHCians just mingle around at these gatherings and form table groups to ting on whatever they fancy, sometimes wetting hankies, consequent to some high dramas and gossips.

Buy Lydia, if you like somethg exciting, you hv company.

Let’s play hide-n-seek. I hide, you seek. I shall hop onto the first bus. Without myself knowing the destination, I think your quest to find me will challenge you no end, into the next Mthly Mtg……when I shall return to Hans to finish the game.

Will this offer make yr attendance more purposeful. It sure will break the ice for you on that day, and I can see you’re already breaking into a dance right away……..

  14. Tim, your ideas, though far fetched, can tickle a funny bone, and sometimes can make one smile, to say the least. Let’s brainstorm, and see if we can come up with some games, jokes, riddles, etc.. to perk up the otherwise boring chit chat Hans session.

Rosalind, i’m a coward when it comes to ghost stories, whether fake or real!

Is it possible to try something more light hearted, eg riddles & jokes, singalong perhaps?

    Cheers.

  15. Yikes… Rosalind-san…

Didn’t know you so brave.. Aug 10 is the FIRST nite of the Chinese 7th month leh… (@_@)…

Best ask Terence to do this after those “visitors” have return home ya… then I would not mind attending and listen to these stories… as well as contribute some personal encounters too… (^_~)

  16. Hi Terence,

    Am coming for second session.

To celebrate Singapore’s birthday, how about having a National Day attire theme for the SHC gathering? Would be nice to paint Hans in the colours of Red or White or both!

    Jonathan

  17. #32 Pauline Ho,

Yeahhhh, this time I’ll make sure we will chit chat.

    Lydia & Pauline,

Sorry I did not know that the 10th is the 1st day of the 7th month. I am not afraid of ghosts and I think they’re more frightened of me. Hahahaha Of course I believe they exist as ‘Man is a spirit with a soul that lives in a body’.

    See you ladies~
    Ros

  18. #36 Jonathan,

I have lots of red coloured clothings but nothing in white. So shall we ladies dress in all-red ala ‘walking hong paos’ and the guys in all-white ala PAP supporters? *wicked laugh*

    Naughty old lady
    Ros

  19. Oops.. did I see my name on the attendance list… ( ?_? )

Sorry Terence, this time I cannot attend lah.. (#_#).. ‘cos got class on every Tue and Thu until end of 2010. Next gathering, if you plan on Mon, Wed or Fri, I will surely join… **(^_^)**

Dear “Brave Lady” Rosalind-jie#37… this time it’s my turn to say sorry… have to miss the chat again… (-_-)

But fear not, there will always be a SHC event that we’ll meet again… (^_~)…

Till then, can the kind Admin pls delete my name from the list else the “registration officer” for that nite will “blacklist” me for no-show… (T_T)….

  20. Rosaline #38,

Interesting idea haha, too bad I don’t have any red or white pants.

Guess we can celebrate in our own individual way.

    Cheers

  21. Jonathan, Rosalind and everybody,

For the monthly gathering, feel free to wear the colours you like. Red, White, others, perfectly fine.

    Terence Seah

  22. Hi Terrence

Regret, last minute i have decided to accept a short term contract hence have to miss the 10 August meeting.

    Hi Gingko #19

Looking forward to chat with you on Bandung, via email…… if we do not meet soon.

    cheers

  23. Dear Terence,

Message Noted & greatly appreciated you have added my name on the list.

Sorry I have ask Irene to register on my behalf, coz earlier I have no access to my PC & happen she was in the web.

    Thank you.

    Judy

  24. Hi Terence & all.

I’m thinking of doing an ice breaker game. It’s done in pairs. Two names will be picked at random (preferably one boy, and one girl) and the pair will be given a list of icebreaker questions to get to know each other. And then the next pair and so on.. and at the end of the night, you would have known at least 5 members, either boy or girl, complete with name & contact no.

I will need some assistance to get it organised. Any volunteers? I can print out 40 sheets of paper, and bring some pencils too!

What do u think of this idea?

    Some feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers, Lydia.

  25. Hi Lydia,

Please go ahead. I guess sometime after the crowds are in, say about 6.30pm would be great. But do note that the place is usually noisy, and full of echo. It is difficult to hear one another. So, it might be nice to annouce what the game is all about, and how it is played. This way, we still understand you, despite the noise.

    Terence Seah

  26. Hi Terence:
i’ll be attending (and “book” a corner for an impromptu speech contest if there’re enough participants. winner will get prize. ok?)

Lydia: I can be your volunteer if you still need one

  27. Hi Frisna,

Thanks for offering to help. Let me have your email address, and I’ll email the icebreaker questions to you, for vetting through.

I’m looking forward to your speech contest! What time is it slotted for?

Tim, pls let me have your email address too. I’ve done some minor changes to the form, since we met this afternoon, and will email it to you, too.

    Cheers, L.

  28. I have just arranged with Hans at Great Eastern to dedicate the back of the venue for the SilverHairsClub. See you then, after National Day.

    Terence Seah

  29. Hi Tim & all.

Tim, are u saying that you are not helping me? Why?

I need two helpers, ideally one boy & one girl. All you need to do is to distribute papers & pencils .. and after that the distribution, can sit back & relax ..! or tell your ghost stories… promote the “farewell party” business… etc…

Frisna has other duties.. she’s organising the impromptu speech contest! And on top of that, she’s volunteered to help! I will liase with her via email to discuss the icebreaker questions. Thank you very much, Frisna.

More details on this speech contest and ice breaker game will be posted on this thread, by Tuesday, 4pm. So watch out for it…

    Cheers, L.

  30. Lydia, I am the standby-man. If help is needed and I am in the position to help, I will, come hell or high waters. But I am getting lazy. Given a choice, I refer to laze around, watch and smoke my pipe and mutter some tripe jibes………

  31. Hi Terence,

I just want to say that your e-mail to inform members of SHC’s latest events has caught the attention of some SHCians (my friends) who didn’t bother to look into the SHC blogs previously because they somehow had much difficulty logging into the comments space to join the interesting dialogues..

They still face the problem but your e-mail update has done them a favour and they would call me up to request that they be registered to participate in the Pyjamas D&D and now the Sentosa Beach Party.

Good job Terence and thank you.

    Geok Suan.

  32. #58 Steven Ng,

Terence wants us to feel young so he omitted adding the word ‘old’ when he calls us boys and girls. We are, after all, old boys and old girls. @_@

  33. Hi Terence

Sorry not be able to make it due to some unforseen circumstances. Hope to make it the next gathering. Kindly delete my name.

    Tks n rdgs

  34. Hi Ah Lam, come join us another time.

    Hi StevenN #58,
I am glad you share the same encouragement. We are overall boys and girls. Come erly, I like to have a chat with you.

    Hi Geok Suan #61,
Help your friends through with learning how to view the SilverHairsClub.com website. Good to have them excited.

    Terence Seah

  35. Hi Terence,

I always believe when we accept for what we are and be ourselves it will be much easier to have a positive outlook on life. Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

Old or should I say maturity does not mean we have to be feeble, self pity, despair, bitterness etc. We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.

By the way Terence I have not registered for this event however since the boss want to chat with me I will make myself available at 4.00 pm or even earlier. I will be there for about 1 to 2 hours as I have some personal matter to attend to later on.

  36. Hi Terence,
Please register the following members for this mth’s gathering.Thks.
(Annie Loh, Bernie Chung, Clara Chay, Lee Chin Chiang, Nora Chia, Peggy Ho, Rena Wong, Sahriah Zahriah, KC Lau).
Will be meeting all again soon.

  37. Like all other SHC monthly gathering, today’s gathering aims to provide a platform for you to meet one another. Bring your name tag; if you dont have one, ask for a sticky label, write your name on it and paste the sticker on your dress or shirt.

If you are new to the SHC, be brave and simply ask around. Introduce yourself and soon you will overcome any fright. You shouldnt be shy at 45.

If you are new, continue to make all the noise you want; just dont bring down the roof. If you see any new SHCians, do say Hi.

Lydia Chin has a game in mind; this will be held around 6.30pm. For drinks and food, just consult the counter.

This event is strictly for registered SilverHairsClub members only. No politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling and MLM. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  38. Dear all,

Frisna and I will do an impromptu ice-breaker game, depending on member’s response. If nobody is keen to play, we’ll just call it off. We can only arrive at 6:30pm, due to other work commitments. So early birds who arrive @ 4pm, will have to find their own games to pass the time. Frisna may even do an impromptu speech contest, for those who are interested. So if you’re interested in the speech or ice-breaker game, pls register with Terence or anyone at the counter. Please take note that the games will only commence around 7pm. For the icebreaker game, participants will be paired up, and each person given a sheet of questions to get to know the other. For the speech contest, Frisna will announce more details at 6:30pm.

    Cheers, L.

  39. Hi Terrence,

Long tome no see. Will try to be there today.

Anyone interested in making a trip to Penang. Can get special price for hotel at Tg. Bungah.

    C.U.

    Jane & Richard

  40. Hi Terence: my name is not on the participants list i’m not black listed right?

Lydia: i’ll help you but might organise my own game/speech next time. will cancel going only if it rains heavily abt 5PM

  41. Hi Terence

Thanks for arranging the monthly meeting yesterday. It’s indeed a great way to meet! My maiden meeting … SHC gives me many opportunities to ‘feel young’ once more… ^_~ haha. Kudos to you for this brainchild … a platform for male and female silver hairs to meet and interact. Feeling the empty nest syndrome no more.. kekeee..

Cheers to you and all SHCians,
    Gabriella Chua

  42. Hi All

Photos are ready for your viewing pleasure. There may be some ‘missing’ photos and these are because some members had given specific instruction not post their photos.

I would like to appeal to members not to pose for any photos if you do not wish to have your photos uploaded or use your own camera at any of the functions. I can oblige if there are not too many photos but in cases where there are 100’s of photos for me to scan through, I may not be able to pick out all of these especially when group photos are concerned.

    Thank you for your understanding

    S@@kie

  43. “…….some ‘missing’ photos..because some members had given specific instruction not post their photos.

Photographers and the foto manager do have a hard task.

Apart from battered husbands and abused wives, home is the safest place. Outside of it, people can expect paparazzis, papakuras and parakeets swooping down on them. Chase them away? Well, you can but the chasing will tire you in no time.

So, perhaps it’s better to decide from the onsetwhere you want to go, who you want to spent time with and if it’s all worth the while, the foto will crystallise smthg memorable.

I have no doubt Sam wont hv any objection if he is potographed playing with Dolly, playing his own golly or playing the monkey with timothy………
