    Thank you

  2. Hi Sockie,

I had some problem trying to send the pix over to you, the file is too big to send even when I zip it. Joy is trying to help me with it, should be through to you soon.

    Dan

  3. Hi Dan & Joy

My belated ‘THANK YOU” for organising the trip.
i ate so much until indigestion! thanks to Tim’s and audrey’s table for finishing our ‘left over’ dinner. the asam prawn was nice but i was too full to try the crab (which looked very appetising).

durian is yummy but too bad the time was rather short. EOs should have made us run around the plantation and came back for second serving (to make the $$ worth hee).

terence: there were several “compulsory” stops along the way (back and forth). i think SHC can run 1 type of the stop either mushroom farm, bee farm etc. surely the members can take care of them and earn $$$$

  4. Hi All

A fruitful trip for me, thks to Dan & Joy!

Greatly appreciate all yr hard works, & I even get to bring home the souvenir of compiled song sheets.

Will certainly look forward to more trips together.

    June Koh

  5. Hi Dan,

As you are aware that I have took some photos of the trip and I would like to forward and share them with you and the members. Can you let me know where can I forward them to ? My email is dannylye@hotmail.com

The trip was enjoyable and durian are good as I believed most of us enjoyed the fruits. The only let down was the qualities and tastes of the seafood provided. I can only grade it at 4 out of 10. Of course I don’t blamed the organiser as with that price tag we are paying for the trip is a litle “off” the menu price.

The organising committee have done their very best to provide us with good budget breakfast (Nasi Lemak not up to the standard of our local ones which I have tried) sight-seeing, durian buffet and seafood dinner. What else more can we asked for with $60. Thanks anyway and keep up the good work !

    Rgds,
    Danny

  6. Hi Dan & Joy

Thank you Dan & Joy for this wonderful trip, great job in organising this trip.

Gots lots of chance to catch up and making new friends. Its was truelly a good memories. Cheers

    Best Rgds
    Audrey

  7. Hi Dan & Joy

Well done and thank you to both of you from me & familly.
Indeed value for money trip to just to have short break & relaxing. I really enjoyed the durian buffet and seafood dinner. I’m a durian lover that I’m willing to sacrifice the curry chicken & fried beehoon for durian sake & now having a bit of sore throat ha..ha.

We are all blessed with good weather over in M’sia and no hiccups at the immigration for both ways.

    Hi Terrence #201

The durian buffet is really worth it if you know how to choose the good ones cos you can eat as much as you want and choose any sizes you like. I find the small ones are nicer in taste but bcos I gila durian big or small all also nice lah. My grp was lucky we chose all good ones & one of the durian I chose is the “gold” color flesh which in the Malays called “Durian Tembaga”. Haa..Sally Tan said to me “Lucky I join your grp get to eat all the good ones”

    Rgds

  8. Trippers arrived punctually despite the downpour, traffic was smooth, weather was fine and immigration squad didnt make us finger or squat. Food was plentiful and there was no bloody fool.

If there was a speck, the Yoyo shop did put me thru the test of caveat emptor – let the buyers beware. They lost.

Thank you Dan and Joy for giving me a break so memorable.

Dead tired now and will definitely sleep very well 2nite.

  9. Dan and everybody who enjoyed the durians,

How good were the durians? Nice smell? small fruit, no seeds or small seeds? Which variety was it? Gosh, I could smell the fragrance as the coach returned to Singapore.

    Terence Seah

  10. It was smooth sailing all the way by the 2nd Link. 35 of us left Newton Hawker Centre at about 7.00am. It rain heavily in the early morning but for the rest of day were such nice and cool weather.

No jam, no long queue,no fingers scanning at the immigration, we just breeze throught and by 8.30am was out of the Malaysian custom

By 9.30am we had our breakfast at Kempas, then off to the Bee Farm where we adjourned to our durian treat. After lunch we head for the Bird nest Factory and then to shopping at Sutera Mall.

Dinner was at a Seafood Restaurant along the beach, a good selection of sumptious dishes which all can attest to is a belly good meal and well worth the money spend.

Singalong on the coach was real fun with each of us leading in their favourite songs. Most were glad to have taken the day out on a very exciting and meaningful trip.

There was a slight hiccup, Christine Poh who paid for the trip was not with us!

    Danz4Joy!

  11. Kudos to Joy and Dan for organising the durian trip for us today. It was a really enjoyable trip. We had so much fun, laughter and of course, endless shopping and makaning…

We had kampong nasi lemak for breakfast, durians & curry with bee hoon for lunch and a sumptuous seafood dinner.

It was a breeze going through the Immigration. There were no queues at the Singapore and JB end. Took us about 10 mins to get through each of the Immigration counters in Singapore and JB. Wow, all the ‘anticipated hullabaloo’ did not happen! Not the slightest hiccup throughout the whole trip.

    Cheeriossssss,
    Gabriella

  12. Hi Hamidah,

I was told that since yesterday at the Causeway no fingers scan required. Let’s pray that we need not be subject to this process and be able to clear immigration in a short time.

Joy is at this moment trying to contact everyone to be at the pickup point by 6.30am tomolo.

Have a good rest, see you all tomolo!

    Dan

  13. Hi Terence

Thanks & too bad you’re unable to join us. Don’t worry we will support Dan & Joy for all their hard work & headaches planning this trip for us. Will feedback to you after the trip whether we have to squat, bent over or lie down at the immigration hee…hee

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  14. Hi Dan, Joy and durian lovers,

Have an enjoyable trip tomorrow. It’s the friendship that matters. Oops, and the durians too.

And, if the group is delayed or hits any snag, do give some support to Dan and Joy. After all, a little hiccup here and here can be great fun too.

    Enjoy.

    Terence Seah

  15. Dan-H, inspite of all the apprehension, do hope everythg will be fine but be prepared to do some squats……replacement for fingering.

I will stand by you. But if the heat gets seething, and I get tired standing, will join the rest to sit on you.

Going out now to pick up the finer points on squatting.

  16. Hi Gabriella #191

Haha I think you did not read all the comments lah fren, Dan already stated in his post #152 that white cards will be provided.

    Hi Dan

One of my SHC friend went to Malacca trip by coach (grp tour) this morning via TUAS said no need to scan fingers oredi probably bcos of all the complaints by commuters and M’sian shopkeepers. Hope 2moro will be the same for us, pray hard.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  17. Eager to look forward to seeing all of you tomoro am. Let’s pray for smooth clearance at the Immigration Checkpt without delay and safety for all of us travelling.

  18. Hi Tim,

    Thanks for being understanding.

One more day to go for our durian feast!

Meet at 6.30am tomolo at Newton Hawker Centre, if all are present we will depart at this time otherwise we wait till 6.45am.

Dun forget your passport, bring some ringgit for shopping. No tipping is required for the driver and tour guide.

Look out for each other, make sure your passport is stamp. The family that play together stay together.

    See you folks!

    Dan

  19. Basing on feedback, there will be a jam if we move out of the Tuas Checkpt late as on the Malaysian side, the jam can be quite frustrating which can take up to more than 2 hrs if you are there late between 9-11am. If we can be there by around 8-9am, pray hard the queue will be short and we will not be holding up for more than an hour to clear Immigration. The last time I experienced such a bad incident was during the weekend before Vesak Day which they just implemented the biometric system at the Woodland Checkpt. It took my family 3 hrs 45 mins to clear the Immigration and by the time we move to City Square almost half a day has lapsed. On the Tuas Checkpt, the last visit was about a month ago, it took us about 30 mins to clear by driving into JB.

  20. Just a little curious about visit to the durian farm. Can anyone tell me are we allow to buy durian from the farm and what are the quantity for each person ? Will they pack the durians for us to bring home ? Appreciate your answer.

    Thanks.

    Danny

  21. Hi Audrey,
I had deleted your comment which had your personal particulars listed and we dont encourage this practise as this website is also being viewed by outsider. Prevention is always beta than cure lor…

    Hi Joy,
I had cut n paste Audrey’s comment and emailed to you already.

    Cheers.. Dolly

  22. Hi Audrey

Don’t worry, I can guarantee you that SCHians are very friendly and fun ppl to be with & we are like a “Happy Family” and you won’t feel bored with us around..you’ll see for yourself this Sat.

Look forward to meet you in 2 day’s time.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  23. Hi All,

Hey after reading all d comments, I m beginning to like
All of .. U know thought have not met all of all
It’s sound more like a family to me, rather
Than all works of life of people coming
Together and have fun n share .. It’s the feel
Of closeness you all have bond.

    Cheers
    Audrey

  24. Theresa Teng’s songs are soothing, nice to hear but difficult to sing. So, I will clap my hands and pretend to move my lips.

    ?????????????????????????????????

  25. Hi Sally #169 & Dan

Good news, I managed to find the hanyu pinyin lyrics for Teresa Teng’s songs Tian Mi Mi, Ni Zen Mo Suo, Wo Zhi Zai Hu Ni & Yue Liang Tai Biao Wo Di Xin.

I will email them to Dan today for compilation.

    Cu on Sat.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  26. Am again hounded for my particulars. So upset by this that I cut a hole in my Tee (of sentimental value) as I cut the hair which my shorts cdnt hide.

No, Joy, it’s no joy for me to give anything more of myself for a one-day trip the sole purpose of wanting the particulars is to for insurance.

I have started a new lease of life too and so my birthday is this year. As to my gender, you decide.

Dan, it will be nice if you summarise the venue and time of departure in either one posting in bold type and colored so that there wont be an iota of doubt what they are. I believe we will board the coach at Newton Hawker Centre Car Park at 6.30 a.m. and depart at 6.45 a.m. latest.

Altho nobody can give the insurance what difference 15-minute, it’s basic coutesy that once a time is fixed (understandably, it is not to everybody’s liking but like it or not, there must be a time), people shd follow the time.

I have set aside another S$50 for this trip – a cab booking fee of $5.20 (I think) and a S$12 ride from Bedok. I will spend less – the balance – for shopping. The allocation is worth doing as I can see friends in the travel list nice to catch up, and new friends to make….just a few will do.

Last, the Mandarin songs I mentioned are not easy to sing as sing-alongs (try doing it with Nat King Cole). But the folloing may be an exception :-

YI KER QIN LEI (???? = A Droplet of Loving Tear?

    # Wo you diow sia yi ker zhi qin lei
Wo xin shang xin dao di wei liao shay
Wo di ai ren shi ge zhi qin ren
Jiow wo zhen nen bu ai ta #

    You you di liu ahui
    Mang mang di shui yueh
Arr…….pany wang ni chow rhe kui lai, chow rhe kui lai
    Wo di ai

The song can stop here. Or # can be repeated.

  27. Hi Sally,

If you can get hold of those titles with lyrics, we can get Tim to anglicised for us so that all of us can learn to sing Hokkien and Chinese songs, how dat?

Audrey, no worries, see you soon.

Terence, I will remind YM Yeo to contact Admin.

Btw, Joy Ah Long will also be our official photographer for the trip!

    Dan

  28. Hi Joy,

Sorry please advise if u need more details, sorry about that as i was rather busy recently attending 3 full days seminar, kind of sotong by the time i reach home,hv not really check my mail.
    Any inconvenience cause much regretted.

    Rgds
    Audrey

  29. Hi Dan,
Thanks for helping me to post on share a cab…However sad to say non responsed, no worries i c u gals n guys at 6.30am ya..

    Cheers
    Audrey

  30. Hi Susan

Based on the advice from the tour operator, we should leave very early to avoid the jam.

So we will leave at 6.45am SHARP.

Those who are not there by 6.45am will be left behind.

    Dan

  31. Dear fellow travellers

Particulars not received/received partially from :-

    1) Christine Poh
    2) Tim Liu
    3) YM Yeo
    4) Anna Seet
    5) Douglas Chan
    6) Audrey Wong

    Joy

  32. Dan, I sing in karaokes and the screen provides the lyrics. I dont know whether I can find them but if you hv the lyrics, do pls email to me and I will have them anglicised – hanyu pinyin will be harder on the uninitiated.

Sally-T, good to know that my songs are your favourites too. But pls pls dont expect me to sound like yr favourite singer.

Come what may, I shall be at the Meeting Place by 6.30 a.m. this Saturday. However, since life is so unpredictable, if I aint seen by departure time, pls proceed without me. I will be watchng you all from above.

Btw, after almost a month, they have given up on improvement ideas proposed by Alecs. They hv, in their usual habits, consulted bomohs who told them to make visitors happy first.

The bomohs licked and kissed the scanners, empowering every index finger touching the scanner to cause everything the finger points at, to drop.

So if you want fresh durians, point yr index fingers at the durians. If you want the immigration people to drop their sarongs, pls be careful, dont point btwn their legs.

  33. Hi Dan,

What time to be at Newton Food Centre? Really 6.30am? Do you think it is too early for those who have to travel by public transport? Pls give a more realistic timing for those staying far. For me, I will try my very best to be on time.

    susan tan

  34. Dan

Since you are compiling, do you have teresa songs that everyone can sing such as ???, ni zen mo suo, etc, some from Fong Fei Fei, Jenny etc. I’ve photostat 40pcs already “???“?

Tim – Very good, 3 of your songs are my favourite – ????? ??????—??????

  35. Hi Sally,

Yes, yes, the more we get together together together, the more we get together how happy we’ll be. You’re my friend and I am your friend, the more we get together………

Tim, may need your help in providing the lyric in hanyin pinyin can?

    Dan

  36. Dan-H, the bottle is suitable for you, me and the guys…….not sure abt the gals but I will be happy to hold the bottle for them.

Seriously, hope the jam wont be too bad and that reports of people having to walk 3 km to find a loo while languishing in the queue, wont happen to us.

If folks have sung enough and are tired of singing, then perhaps, I will do 1 or 2 Mandarin/Cantonese numbers.

“?????”?“????”?“????”?“????”?“??????“? ”????” are some of my favourites.

  37. Hi Hamidah,

I have compile all the songs suggested by you. So far oredi got almost 30 songs, we need more song titles, keep them coming!

Good news, we have negotiate further, no tippings is required.

Make sure all personal detail submitted otherwise you may not be covered by insurance.

Susan, noted your suggestion for stopover at the Kueh Lapis factory.

Tim, not sure about the hole on the floor. There should be rest stop along the way otherwise bring more empty bottles!

3 more days to go! Anyone need morning call?

    Danz4Joy!

  38. Dan/Joys

    Optional suggestions
I just heard from a colleague that in Kulai Jaya there is a Kueh Lapis Factory selling very cheap & tasty Kueh Lapis. If we have some spare time, maybe the driver can swing over to that place, I am sure all will enjoy.

  39. Assuming a song lasts 3-4 minutes and the causeway jam last 3/4 X 60 mins = 180/240 mins, we need some 60 songs to keep our spirits high and forget the agony of waiting thru the crawling traffic.

Frankly, now that I know that a long wait in the coach to gain an inch is almost a certainty, anythg that cuts the wait-time can only make me happy. And nice if folks not only sing but also break into dances which will release liquid from the body thru perspiration. The need to look for the loo is reduced.

Dan, if the coach comes with a hole on the floor, for sure it will lessen our pains.

  40. Hi Dan

Can you also add in these few songs if no one requested:-

    1) One Way Ticket
    2) Hasta Manana
    3) Yesterday
    4) Hey Jude
    5) Sha la la
    6) Sway

    Tks & Cheers
    Hamidah

  41. 4 more days to our Durian Escapade!

  50. Why did I sign up?

To be in the company of largely friends. To give you the support you truly deserve.

Durian is not my favourite fruit and defintely, to claim insurance is not in my desire.

But if the details are required for more than insurance, then pls let me know and I will provide them here.

It’s not too bad if my birday is known and I get to receive more good wishes each year I go older.

  51. Thanks Terence, wish you can join us.

Anybody want to share a cab with Audrey?

Tim, I thought only the ladies want to keep their personal detail to themselves, why you?

I also thought that the index finger is actually my thumb, how ignorant of me.

Yew Kwong, glad to hear from you and appreciate the help.

Dolly, thanks too, you will missed all the fun!

Sally Tan, we welcome you to join us. It never too late.

Do take note of the followings:
    1. Try to be there by 6.30am to avoid the jam.
    2. Have some breakfast first as we may be caught in the jam
    3. Meeting point is Newton Hawker Centre.
    4. Please provide all your mobile contact to Joy just in case.
    5. Bring wet issue paper.
    6. Bring disposable pvc hand gloves.

Some of you yet to provide your personal details, please do so!

8 more days to go for our yummy durians!

June, indeed nothing to worry but to enjoy. ‘Sufficient unto the day is the evil therof’!

    Dan

  52. Haha, Ham, the immigration officers wd hv seen and tasted a lot of middle fingers by now. Pity these uniformed wage earners……dont think they want to do more than the senang senang chop chilli chop chop chop routine if not bcos of some Aiias smarter than Alecs sitting up there.

I will definitely dirty my index fingers for that scan. Can borrow your nostrils? Pls keep them loaded.

Ladies Luck? Sure but it’s abt the same probability that we get to see a sea of red from the ladies. Problem is, the guys wont know cos the gals wont tell.

Yes, whatever, we must keep our date with Durian and Duriana.

  53. Hi Tim

Aiyo yo Tim, you’re still so nice to declare Jihad with the Index Finger…I thought declare Jihad would be showing your Middle Finger ha..ha

If not much time over in Msia side, the most we don’t
“pick mushrooms” or “catch the bees” lor but must go find “Mao Shan” (Cat Mountain), cannot afford to miss it this one hee..hee.

Relax lah everyone don’t get so worked out, who knows with all the “Ladies Luck”, our bus may be able to go to the “No finger Scan” lane like what Dolly mentioned. I’m sure the tour operators knows best what to do, so let’s leave it to their expertise to handle the situation. We just pray hard & hope that everything goes smoothly as planned on that day.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  54. Pls dont wait for me if I aint there when the time to depart arrives, whatever the time is.

    Hopefully all will be well.

But if there’s inordinate delay at the immigration and so we will hv to pass up some visits/attractions, try not to get angry. If you cant, then get angry at the actual cause. Declare jihad with the index finger but pls dont look for Dan-H’s butt or his finger.

If my biodata is needed only for the purpose of insurance, I am happy to be kept out. Just pls give me a white immigration card.

For the travel list, if one is reqd, my entry is Timothy Liu.

  55. Hi June,

It suddenly strikes me that I can use two index fingers, one from each hand. Smart.

    Hi Dan & Team,
Enjoy yourself and stretch the day. Durians? Must be sweet and nice smell.

    Terence Seah

  56. Hi Terence

By using both left and right index fingers for scanning, very interesting, isn’t it? I made a joke out of myself when I asked whether I could use both my thumbs for scanning, as I rather prefer thumbs (bagus).

    June Koh

  57. Hi Yew Kwong,
I have not gone into the JB customs, and I was thinking and trying to imagine how you put two index fingers into the scanner. We all have only one index finger.

Not trying to be funny, I see a thumb, an index, a middle, a ring and a pinky.

    Terence Seah

  58. Hi All

The finger scaning process is simple n dont require one to wait long in the queue. At most is 5 to 10 minutes. U only get to be scanned once for finger prints to be captured in JB immigration system. I was there 2 days after the system was implemented.

Just remember to place both your index fingers on the scanner when told to do so. In case u dont know which is index finger, please refer to pic in link.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hand_parts.jpg

  59. Hi All,
Definitely d finger scanning is slowing down d process but d last time when I was going up 2 Genting wif family members during school holi, I noticed that there was a lane dat not using d finger scanning procedure, so we all cheong there n get clear fast enough lor.. So just luk c luk c n tis time, hope all of u r lucky enuf 2 get in2 this line lor..

James, I dun tin dat it will b fair 2 Dan 2 give any refund back frm own his pocket as all these arrangement had already caused enuf headaches for him. Moreover, is not only u dat he has 2 refund, what abt others? He cant set tis kind of precedance la. I believed no travel agency will b willing 2 give back refund at tis 11th hr lor.. u shd noe tis beta sin u r oso 1 of tose seasoned traveller rite?..

So all of u, just take it easy lor.. n enjoy tis holi lor n d fellowship hours lah… Cheers.. Dolly

PS: Kaypoh la.. Sibeh chiam.. Dan lor…

  60. Gabriella, Tim n all SHCians,

Of course we appreciate Danz for his hard work on this
durian trip as well as other activities he had organized.

The purpose of hiliting the dealy at the Malaysian checkpoints
if not so much of whether leaving half an hour early will
help much, but more on the final impact caused by the
    inefficiency at the Immigration.

Yesterday another report that visitors have to wait for 7
hours to clear the fingerprint scan is really worrying:

    http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_677072.html

I personally don’t think it’s justifable the long wait just
to taste the ‘Cat Mountain’ durians no matter how tempting
it is; more so if we can anticipate the problem way before
we set off. And the way issues are being tackled from across
the Causeway leave me worrying if the root cause will be
addressed; viz bad govt policy during holiday season when
    crowd is at its peak.

Sorry dont mean to be a a wet blanket to spoil the trip,
just wonder if there’s any escape route for those who
want to withdraw from the trip.

Definitely not Danz problem, he didn’t cause the Causeway
holdup. Kudos to him for doing his best.

  61. Dear all,

I feel that Dan is v accommodating when arranging such trips for SHCians. It is really a thankless job eh? Not an easy job unless one is passionate about it. I truly appreciate what he’s doing. Kudos to Dan!

Leaving 15 mins earlier will make a lot of difference when we reach the JB immigration, especially during the current school holidays. There were a couple of occasions when our coach (arr by some com centre) left slightly later than expected cos of some late-comers, which resulted in all participants being stuck for a much longer time than anticipated at the JB immigration. This is not to mention the expected current teething delay caused by the ‘finger’ scan.

    My l cent worth.

Cheers & sunshine…………looking forward to the trip.
    Gabriella

  62. Hi Janie, we appreciate your kind comment and suggestion.

Hope by now most of you have email to Joy your particular for insurance coverage. Those who need to share a cab may let us know or indicate here on the post and we will assist you.

Just to allay some of your fear, we will set the meeting time at 6.30am and tell the driver to depart at 6.45am sharp. Let’d hope that we will have a smooth journey.

This trip is sorely for SHC member and friend and family and we dun have to worry outsiders having to wait for us. Guess this should put all of you at ease.

Gabriella, noted your suggestion to put the meeting and departure time in bold red letter.

    Dan

  63. Hi All

I’m a frequent visitor to Msia on 2 wheels. Most times, I would have reach SG immigration checkpoint by 6.15 am n cross JB immigration checkpoint before 7 am to beat the traffic congestion.

    a) Better to leave early than late as it gives u more time to enjoy your trip over the other side. No one like to stay in coach/bus in queue n count cars. I would rather count the sheep at home lying on my cozy bed. Of course, some people may find it bit inconvenient to get up n reach assembly point not at early hours.

    b) One should try not to car pool. U only get to spend hefty taxi fare once in a while. Why not make it easier for yourself n have a good time instead.

I agree too that Dan is doing a good job organising trips. Going on any trip is all about enjoyment. Have fun n a safe trip.

  64. Hi all,

Pardon me for writing this comment when i am not going. I believe everything happens with a reason. Dan is very nice to organise this trip and co-ordinating it well.

To cut it short and to meet at 6.30am, possible problems are:
    a) getting there on time and need to wake up earlier – some kind early bird can volunteer to make morning calls. Please provide your contact if you need this arrangement.

    b) transport – arrange for car or taxi pool. Make known early to facilitate planning.

I wish all of you have a good and wonderful trip!

    Janie

  65. Sadly, this is a case of bwtn the devil and the deep blue sea. Btwn the possibility of not making it on time to board the coach, and staying in the coach longer.

Ultimately, btwn missing the ride altogether and staying in the ride longer, the latter appears the lesser evil. Not easy for the EO, so will leave it to him.

This weekend is critical. If the massive jam continues, we can expect a much smoother ride next weekend. But if situation improves, the guys up there will believe they hv overcome the snarl and we can expect a bit of hell next weekend.

I am ok with whatever the departure time is so long as I get to ease my bowels/bladder before the coach leaves.

  66. Hi Douglas,

The timing is not decided by me but by the tour operator. From their experience if we start at 7.00pm, we may most likely be caught in a massive jam.

May I know which part of Singapore you are staying and we try to pool you together to catch a cab. I have on my part done my part to put less burden on each of you by forgoing my free ticket.

If the problem persists I am of half a mind to grant you and James a refund!

    Dan

  67. Hi Dan

I am disappointed that you have again changed the time back to 6.30am after members had make their payments.

Please depart at 7am as agreed as some of us may not be able to make it on your revised timing.

Do not worry about the jam, lets cross the bridge first.

  68. James

Sorry. No refunds for whatever reasons. Missed the bus, water pouring through the roof at Newton Hawker Centre, bus gone through the roof at Newton Hawker Centre, whatever…

    Dan

  69. Haha, poor Dan-H, you too must be suffering the jitters of this fingering thingy. From 6.30 a.m. to 7.00 o.m. isnt a shift of half an hour.

Reaching the plantation close to midnite is a good time to catch falling durians with durianas doing the wild hula-hop to welcome us.

Sure, I dont mind the coach picking us up at 7.00 p.m.

Seriously, for me if the trip is worth going, I will make that bit more effort to reach the assembly place on time, even if I hv to pre-book a cab to be on the safe side. To be late will only take all back to 7.00 a.m. which not only defeats the purpose of avoiding a more massive jam but wont be fair to those who keep the time.

With vivacious Ham and her “vulvaic” Munir expected to keep me enthralled all the way, it’s a trip worth my going.

  70. James,

According to the tour operator they have no problem clearing the immigration if we start at 6.30am. I have inform them again whether we can change back to 7.00pm, but bear in mind the half an hour difference may cause us to be caught in a longer jam!

A suggestion, those who think that 6.30am is too early may decide to share a cab? Newton MRT is actually located in the middle of Singapore.

    Dan

  71. Hi Dan #121

Thanks again to you and Joy for all the hard work in making this durian trip possible for us.

Perhaps, you would like to highlight the new pick-up time 6.30 AM IN BOLD AND RED INK in case some participants miss it in this thread.

    Just a suggestion…..

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriella

  72. Hi James and Mary,

really appreciate the feedback. As 33 of you have paid up we will let nothing to deter us!

I believe over time the teething problem will get back to normalcy.

Tim, nothing like to be in another country and experiencing the laid back feelings with friend and acquaintances. Ole durian durian here we come!

There will be a slight change, we need to meet at pickup point at 6.30am instead of 7.15am to be at the causeway half an hour earlier to avoid the jam.

12 more days to go! Please email your particular if you have not done so. We need them for insurance coverage.

    Dan

  73. Much ado with the finger. Much ado about nothing with that finger as far as additional security is concerned.

It starts with more than just the driver in a car. If a car carries more, all passengers will have to alight, troop to the check counter to hv their finger prints scanned.

While waiting in the queue behind, people get bored. Some sink into their habits of digging their noses. Some suck their fingers to kill time.

When it comes to their turn, their finger scans are rejected bcos of deposits or saliva. They are ordered to wash their hands. That again take time.

In the meantime, 1 exasperated bearded Seng show his middle finger show his middle finger. As annoyed, turbaned singh also shows his and it takes on a catagion effect. Middle fingers come out everywhere.

The immigration officials see and interpret that as a sure sign of terrorists signalling to each other to destroy. Congratulating themselves for the effectiveness of this finger screening policy to sieve out terrorists, all who show their fingers earlier than at the screening are taken in for interrogation and thorough body checks. Stripping is the norm. When their clothes are returned, busty ah Lian cant find her D-cup. Again, time is lost.

    Traffic is held up further.

So, Dan, I am ok if instead of bringing the mountain to Mohd, Mohd goes to the mountain. You can get the lorry loads of durians and seafood dinner come to Spore, i am ok with that. We can then congregate at Hong Lim Square, speak our minds, swear and eat our durians.

    Heheee……..

  74. Dan,
I was stuck at the Causeway from 7.30am to almost 10am. We cleared the Singapore immigration very quickly as we had started out early to beat the crowd, but the new finger printing procedure was so painstakingly slow.
This will be ongoing for quite a long time more.
The immigration officer told us that if we wanted to go to JB ‘just for a coffee’, we should think again. What cheek.

  75. Dan,

Today news report said that there was massive jam at both
causeway due to Malaysia new requirement of finger-printing
    for all visitors.

Please check with tour agency if this is going to have big
impact on the Durian trip and whether a postponement would be wiser.

    james

  76. Hi Tim.

The one ticket in itself contains a riddle yet to be solved.

Dave, good that you could join us in the fun and adventure!

    Dan

  77. Hi Dan,

As spoken, I’ve ATM $60/- to Joy’s a/c just now.
Looking forward to some ‘Cat mountain king’ or Sultan durians, haha ??

    Thank you very much.

  78. Hi Dan

Thanks for your info. Wah another 16 more days to go & getting excited already.

Thanks to you & Joy for your efforts and kepala pusing organising this trip just for SHCians to have fun.

Tim, you dunno what ticket so take it as “One Way Ticket”
and let’s sing this song in the bus

  79. With 1 ticket, the tipping is reduced from S$3 to SS!.

    With 31 trippers on board, the reduction is S$2 x 31 = S$63.

Dunno what ticket it is but guess a S$63 ticket will buy one to watch naked monkeys dance with crickets in the thickets.

  80. Hi Dan

Surely everyone will bring some RM currency there for buying local products & shopping etc, why not just fix that everyone give RM5.00/pax for the tips easier that way and better for us too. Of course the tour guide would prefer S$3 cos when you convert it’s abt RM7.00 hee…hee

Tim, let me see what 4D no. I dream on the eve of the trip, then I share the 4D tip

  81. Dan, the bit extra paid was to, hopefully, bring a bit of joy to Joy so that she cd account for that payment. No fun if you refund the extra.

Ham, “tips” can come in many forms. So if you’re good with giving 4-D tips, be generous and that shd suffice.

Btw, there’s a money changer in my neighbourhood. He offers very good $ exchange rates. The bearded Mandarin head on the bill is also very handsome. Alone with you at nite, he winks. More suave than Munir.

    Heheee………..

  82. Those who have paid more than $60 will have your refund when we meet. The tippings for the tour guide and driver come to about MR$5.00 or S$3.00. I managed to get the operator to reduce to S$1.00 per person.

17 more days to go for our Durian Escapade!

    Dan

  83. No, Ham, it wasnt composed by me.

The cobra is composed when the Bengali chants the Charm. So it twirls its body instead of biting yr body and sends you into a twist.

    Munir’s vulv_?

Haha, dont bet that he hasnt one to show. With the cobra bewildered and staring hard at you as yr saliva drip. And wet you wil be. Very wet, whetting and soaking in the sight.

The countdown has just begun. Yes, you need time to do up yr hair a bit nicer and shed a kilo for the girth to be a bit thinner. Just a bit. Munir likes it big.

    Heheeee…………

  84. Hi Dan

Ok noted. I’m trying to ask my colleague to help me write lyrics in Hanyu Pinyin for songs Xiow Wei, Ay Pia Chia Ay Ya & Long Si Wi Tiok Li

Tim, Chant The Bengali Charm song compose by you huh? Don forget to teach us sing “Muniru Valiva” too. I’m also trying to compose new song “Chant Steven Chant” the English version hee…

  85. Hi Hamidah,

Please email them to me, I will compile them. Noted your selection of songs. How about some of the Chinese songs?

Tim, we have to depend on you for the Bengali song, you shall lead us?

I will include the lyric for ‘It’s a long way to Tiperary’, ‘Pack up your trouble in the old kit bag’, ‘Goodbye Jimmy goodbye’ and ‘Red River Valley’.

How about the rest of you, any love songs, all-time favourites, evergreen songs, we shall belt it out of our system!

    Dan

  86. Hi Dan #101

Fyi, if I like certain songs (any language)I will listen to the pronouciation, translate it in romanise my own style & then memorize it.

I can help you prepare some Malay community songs like Rasa Sayang, Chan Mali Chan & Di Tanjong Katong. You want me photostat a copy each for everyone or you want me to email to you and you compile everything?

    Cheers
    Hamidah

For English songs you can add in Mr Postman, Knock Three Times,Yellow River, On When The Saint Goes Marching In & Yesterday cos these are common songs that I’m sure SHC members are familiar with.

  87. Thanks Yuet Yin, I will update the post.

Hi Hamidah, yes, I do hope to compile such mixture of songs. I noticed that you can sing mandarin songs very well. How did you do it? Anyone know how to get all these songs you suggested with hanyi pin yin added?

We can add the Hokkien song ‘Chia cham’ and ‘dong fen’. I really want to learn them.

    Dan

  88. Hi Joy,

  89. Hi Dan #98

Alamak Dan “Wo pu huay jiang hua yu, deng yi xia ni men jiang hua yu, wo pu huay ting, zhen me yang? Wo shui jiao.

May be you can also add some common & popular Hokkien & Mandarin songs eg Ai Pia Chia Ay Ya, Long Si Wi Tiok Li & Siow Wei, think would be fun to have mixture of songs (multi racial) so everyone can learn to sing different language songs. Just my suggestions only.

Tks & looking foward to this trip

    Hamidah

  90. Hi Lydia,

No worries, we have enough pax for the trip though we are open for more. The operator includes the insurance coverage though we did not achieve 40 pax.

Meanwhile those yet to sumbit your particular please do so as we need them for insurance coverage.

Another 19 days and we are on a joy ride up north. We may have to serenade each other on the coach and perhaps have a hilaroius time of speaking mandarin to each others.

    Danz4Joy!

  91. Hi Joy/Dan.

Thank you for your relentless effort & zeal in organising events after events for SHC. I do realise that this is a thankless task. But rest assured, there are amongst us, some who are really thankful to you for organising events after events, tirelessly. I am one.

Due to unforseen circumstances, I had to withdraw from this event. Pls accept my sincere apologies for inconvenience caused, if any.

I am hoping & praying that you will find a few more people interested and able to go for this trip, to make up your desired no. of total pax. Meanwhile, I am checking around, asking people to go. June is a busy month.

Have fun, and I’m sure you guys will enjoy the durians.

    Regards, LC.

  92. Dear joy/dan

  93. Dan,

Since “Joy Ah Long has just this morning make an appointment with the abattoir!”, are we going to have prime
beef, pork chop or BBQ chicken as an extra for this trip,
haha? Hope you don’t raise the price for this trip ‘cos of
    this extra.

Anyway, appreciate the hard work Joy and you had put in to
    organise this trip.

    james

  104. Ok done, trf $60.11 to Joy’s a/c @ abt 2.13 p.m.

Dan, the trees are unlikely the mahoney I planted 2 days ago on Batam but shd be as sturdy. Dont think the school will offer anything less to gals to climb.

Pls let me know if there’s need to top up assuming the minimum pax quota isnt met.

    Meanwhile, starting the count-down…………….

  105. Tim,

    Wat kind of tree?

Bessie, so glad to have you joining us. Remember the good times when we drove up twice in three cars to Ipoh, Cameron Highlands and Malacca. I do wish we can do it again. This time to as far as Lake Kenyir or Penang.

    Dan

  106. Dan, she is presently on the way north to climb trees and I dont think I can make the time to pick her up from across the island so early so she is a doubtful starter.

  107. Tian Soo, have to miss your fellowship and all the nice jokes,

    Tim, Victoria coming?

5 more days to go and we are still short of 2 pax to enjoy the discounted rate.

On this trip, most will be SHC member and some friend and children. More like a family day as we have not have one before in any SHC meeting.

Gasp, gasp, Joy Ah Long is chasing me round the block! Help, help, please rush to the nearest ATM.

    Dan

  108. Ok Dan, I am on. Will find an AXS machine to transfer $ today. If you see $60.11, it’s from me.

My nemesis is the weather. Hope the sun will shy away on the day………………

  109. Hi Dan

  115. Hi James,

We will be going by the Causeway, the time frame given may be due to congestion problem. We need to start early to avoid the jam. Dun forget that this is the school holiday month.

I wish to confirm that the pickup point is Newton Hawker Centre carpark which is near Newton MRT.

    Dan

  116. Dan,
Per your schedule, we are supposed to meet at 6.30am at
either Outram or Newton; and we will arrive at Checkpoint
(is it 2nd Link?) at 8.30am. Presuming the journey from
either pick up point takes 30-45min, that means ppl who
arrive punctually will need to endure a 1.15min wait.

Is that right? If the intention is to arrive at Checkpoint
by 8.30am (which is a reasonable time), may I suggest to
re-visit the starting time to a more reasonable figure as
some ppl, from the far east, north and west, may not be
    able to arrive by 6.30am.

  117. Hi Dan

You’re most welcome. That’s great to hear price will be reduced if we hit 30 or 40. So fellow SHCians wait no more bring your gang along to come and join us go chiak lu lian.

For songs that can be submitted later, most important is to get more SCHians & their family members or friends to participate and get this trip going.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  118. Dear Hamidah,

Thanks for helping to rope in more of your friend. If we can hit 30 pax the cost will be reduced to $60.00 and if we reach 40 pax it will be reduced further to $56.00. Child rate is less $5.00.

We still need song titles for compilation. Can be a scout song or folk song or any of your favourite to serenade us on the coach.

    Dan

  119. KW Sum, we are happy that you have taken up learning dancing. You won’t be dissapointed us there will be many opportunities to practice.

Since 2008, we have been organizing kelong trips annually. What we need now is to find a place where all the fishing enthusiats can really to some serious fishing.

Do let me have the contact of your friend and I will help to put up the post. Let’s fix a date for August this year, can?

    Dan

  120. Hi, Dan
Kwai Yin and I are seriously signing up for dancing lessons at Aspire, so no play, play.
About fishing, I normally fish from a boat with 3 to 4 fishermen on charter boats. To start off with a small initial team, I would include you in my next fishing trip. Boat fishing is difficult to organise on a large scale, as some may not be able to take the heat or sea-sickness over a full-day or overnight fishing trip.
    The other alternatives are:
    – pond fishing in either Singapore or Malaysia,
    – kelong fishing in Malaysia,
these can be organised on a larger scale.

I heard that you had previously organised kelong trips and may I know when would the next trip be? An old friend of mine who has a shop at the junction of Arab Street and Beach Road, he organises trip to a kelong off Johore. If you want additional contacts, etc., I can give you his details next week.
    Regards

  121. Hi Christine, we are glad to have you joining us for this fun trip.

Kwai Yin and KW Sum, it was nice meeting both of you at the last monthly gatherings. It seems the dancing has rub off on both of you and we certainly hope that you would seriously take up some dancing lessons.

KW Sum, just get to know you and that you are into serious and deep sea fishing. Perhaps you may want to share with us more and initiate a fishing trip for us?

Anna and Lawrence, it always good to have both your good company and we look forward to another fun time together.

    Dan

  122. Hi Dan,

I am interested to join this trip, please register my name. Will transfer $65.00 to Joy’s account soon and update you.

    Cheers
    Christine Poh

  123. Hi Dan and Joy

I have credited $65 to Joy’s account given above (ref: 1910).

    Kindly ack receipt.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Gabriella

  124. Hi Dan

You can register me as 3pax ie myself & 2 friends. If I have some more coming will keep you updated again. Tks for arranging this trip.

    Hi Tim

U come along lah so we can be the backup & backdown singer for Dan

  125. Hamidah, the Lightning Bolt people are kind for not taking away all the good ones to stand for erection but allot one for you to marry, and together make really very good young ones for everyone’s future. Your man is like me……Great !

Yes, trust in a marriange or in any meaningful relationship is very important. Happy to see that you’re so blessed !

“Cowboy” got no hair after giving generously to its owner. You marry well; Cowboy’s master owned well.

Dan-H, try to get a fairer sex to drive the coach. Maestros we are, we shall please her to bits with our serenading so much so that she will keep driving after durian to Cameron Highlands for strawberries. If we continue to sing, she will continue to drive north all the way to Hatyai to give all a mango treat………even to Beijing for a 101 hairdo.

Yes, if I go i will sing Humpty Dumpty in the tune of The Exodus.

Seriously, I will go if it doesnt clash with my June holiday plan with kid. She calls the shots.

  126. Hi Dan.

This trip sounds exciting. I would like to join in the fun. And will also bring one to two frenz along (yet to join SHC, but will join sooner or later!)

Will we be having some sing-along on the bus? Calling Clara Chay, are u coming? We need you to lead the sing-along.. haha!

I will make payment, once I can confirm how many pax.

    Cheers, LydiaChin.

  127. Dear Hamidah, we do look forward to your joining us with your friend, hope to hear from you soon. Here wishing you a blessed birthday as you grow younger each day!

Conrad and Sally, welcome on board. We are going to have a jolly good times!

Just to inform those coming with children, the cost is $5.00 less.

Tim, come lah, we can do some serenading of the fairer sex on the coach.

Dun forget to share with us your favourite song or tune.

    Dan

  128. Hi Tim

Thanks brother for your bday wishes. Haha I don worry abt my hubby cos behind my back he’s busy making money and under the bed he’s hiding money as much as possible for our retirement age so that we can lenggang kangkong and goyang kaki by then. Must trust one another then will have happy marriage.

Wah Steven’s dog must be angmoh dog from the West so that’s why he named him “Cowboy” and not “Ah Ter or Ah Beng” hee…hee

Hope you can join makan durian trip & have fun together

  129. Happy belated birthday, Hamidah. Wish you Good Health, Good Wealth and Good Stealth in quietly checking on what hubby does behind yr back…..sometimes under the bed.

He drops his jaw when he is called an Indian Chief. Japanese, Causasianm, Teochew even Zulu Chief will make him smile and show his teeth – some in halves, some jagged but still a complete glistening set.

If I remember it correctly, “Cowboy” is the name of Steven-C’s dog. It has been dead for a while and so “stand” you can next to the mound under which this warrior lies but to hv it on standby will scare the shit out of all Chiefs.

This trip is still some days away. Will decide nearer to close of regn.

  130. Hi Dan #23

Thanks for your understanding. I’m keen to go for this trip but don’t register my name first until I cfm the no. of friends I’m bringing.

Don’t worry abt the “Indian Chief” I will standby “Cowboy” to protect you.

    Hello Tim #25

If include Sat, Sun, Public Holiday, Vahdeh & Masalodeh, I just turn 75 on my birthday that falls on Labour Day. See bagus tak I keluar only, everyone dapat holiday.

Apa ini talk abt “don make sense” you talk abt Teochew ah Low & tiger…I tak tau lah. I only know Tiger God “Hor Ya”
    hee…

Tim, mai kong nya lah, lai lei tway wah lang ki chiak lulian ah, ai mai?

  131. Oei, Datin, lu umor berapa?

At my age, I have long accepted that little in life makes sense.

When a Teochew ah Low talked abt “tiger”, he used it in the context of a Chinese idiom i.e. a hill cant be the home of 2 tigers.

Yet another Chinese renowned for her high calibre, shot off her mouth as in a 0.33. She asked “Do I look like a tiger?”.

Anyway, tiger or not, she does look like an overnite pancake.

    Arithmatically, it also makes no sense that 87 X 40% = 6.

Seriously, I believe how far an activity can reach out depends on whether it’s a SHC “organised” event or one “co=ordinated” by a SHCian.

The former is an event which is organised by an outside party but a SHCian, awared of it, extends the invite to SHCians (and their families & friends).

But of cos, it becomes a bit grey if the activity is seen as organised by a SHCian but he needs the help of an outside establishment such as a food caterer, a tour company etc.

  132. In August 2008 we have a trip for an overnight stay in Kukup with 42 pax in attendance. Having one day and one night affair allows us to have a wider program which includes singalong on the bus and games session.

On this upcoming Durian trip, I want to suggest that each one of you choose a favourite song. I will have is compile and printed out for all and then we can belt it out together on the bus and have a hilarious times!

My songs are ‘I can’t stop loving you’and ‘I really dun want to know’ and ‘All for the love of a girl’.

    Dan

  133. Hi Steven,

We will be having durian buffet, visit mushroom farm and bee farm and shopping but not bird nest farm.

    Hamidah,

We are chartering a bus for this trip and it open to SHCians and their family member. We do need a minimum pax though and the more the merrier. I guess non SHC member is okay just for this trip. I just hope our Indian Chief will not give me a knock on the head!

    Dan

  134. Hi Dan #19

You mentioned if bringing friends must sign up as member first but if bring family why don’t have too?. For children/nephew/niece etc I understand not 45yrs old so not eligible for SHC member but what if a member want to bring their non SHC spouse, mum or mum-in-law, must sign up as member also?? Don’t make sense leh, sorry to say this.

I felt that if you allowed family to come along then this should not be considered as SHC event as such pls also allow members to bring non SHC friends too without having to sign up as member just to make the trip a fun one like the saying “The more the merrier” ha..ha.

My suggestion only, correct me if I’m wrong & hope no offence, thanks.

    Cheers!
    Hamidah

  135. Hi Dan,

Original itinerary is fine with me as long as we visit 1 duarian farm, mushroom farm and 3 bird nest factory.

    Register for 2 pax pls.

  136. Hi Dan #19

Orig itinerary is fine with me too. I just wanna spend a day in JB with friends, highlight being DURIAN PARTY! kekeke

    Will credit $ soon.

    Thanks,
    Gabriella

  137. Dear folks,

I have managed to stick to the original itinerary. Please check and let me whether it is to your satisfaction!

As Event co-ordinator, I invite fella member and their family to come on board. Those who intend to invite your friend please ensure that they sign up as member first!

    Dan

  138. Hi Seok Wah,

Please be reminded that non-members’ names are not allowed on this forum. Your comment has been put on hold.

    Terence Seah

  139. Hi Gabriella,

The cost is $65.00 per pax.

Tian Soo, sorry to miss out your name. I thought you are coming?

Lily, sorry we have to change itinerary as the previous tour seats are all taken!

    Dan

  140. Hi Dan

PLs. include me and my nephew ( 2 pax ) for this tour. Thanks for taking the initiative to organise this unique tour for silverians

  141. Dear Dan

Tks for putting up a new itinerary with another tour group so quickly. V efficient leh!

    I like the new programme.

Pl let me know the final cost of trip to be credited to Joy’s account.

    Regards,
    Gabriella

  142. Dan,
From what I see from this post, you shd classified as EC instead of EO since outsider is allowed for this event. Hence, pls change the status to EC. Cheers.. Dolly

  143. Hi Rosalind,

This trip is cancelled because all the seats are taken up and as co-ordinator I see no problem with having family member.

I have managed to confirm with another tour group strictly for SHC member which may required a minimum number. It would help to have more people coming, but provided our Indian chief have no issue with that?

    Dan

  144. Hi Gabriella, Tian Soo, James and Susan Tan, Irene Poh, Douglas, Ronald and Lily, thanks for your early support. Sad to inform that all the seats from now till June 29, are are filled up.

Not to worry, I have approached another party to look into it and will bring back good news for all of you, sit tight!

    Dan
