  1. Dear Sue and Jeffrey,
I do not belong to the pow wow team in business as I was an ex-professional.Nevertheless,I like to join all of you in the evening dinner as I know Sue,Jeffrey and James who taught me some basic rhumba at Jeff’s Gan Sunday dance function.Above all,I love good food. Thanks and I will be there.

  2. I would love to attend this month “round table” as there is no other healthy or relevant activity during the second half of sept but this coming session seems to have no clear agenda; and i am afraid that we will simple eat and talk shop, so i shall wait for the next one.

It is hard sometimes to understand the value of a strong network which is so important when you’re an entreprenuer. Besides luck, sometimes it is who you know and who knows you that spells the difference between success and well, maybe not failure but a moribund business just trudging along.

I have another round table group which has been going on for close to 15 years. All of us are entrepreneurs and while it may seem contradictory, very little business is discussed at the round table. We all have a good meal, share stories and yarn through the late hours of the night.

All this goes towards establishing a close camadarie among us. We know who does what and when the opportunity arises we know who to call on, with full confidence in him or her.

Having had several rounds of the SHC Round Table, I think maybe only one person appreciates this point fully. Perhaps Andrew Koh might want to add on to this?

  4. Hi Jeff, Audrey,

Thanks for organizing another biz dinner.
Hope the meal can start punctually as I’ll have to leave
    at 8.30pm for another appt.

  5. Hi Jeffrey,
I am fully aware of value of spending time to get to know ‘potential business partner/s”; be it one year or a lifetime. You strategy relationship building is good. Must be hard on you that from our round table gang that you have managed to find only one good partner. Hang in there.
Will wait for the next round and see what’s cooking.
I take it that you are fully aware that you spelled my name wrongly, whether intentional or typo error, please note the right spelling.

  6. Hi,

I heard my name mentioned. I think what Jeff wanted to say is that we don’t talk business all the time but more on getting to know people and network. Business golf is another example. We just enjoy the game and hardly talk business.

Even though there is no clear agenda, anyone can bring up any subject including business proposals but of course keeping off the club taboos.

Let’s just enjoy the company and learn from each other.

Feztus, come and join us. I heard the food is good. Hope to see you this Friday.

  7. Hi Andrew, Jeffrey,

Entrepreneurs always find opportunities to meet with other entrepreneurs. And, I agree with you, business groups gatherings do not always have an agenda; although their aim is likely to be to increase their network and business opportunities.

Rencently, Dolly did mention to me that some members attend the Round Table with the intention of find investors for their business idea. Others attend with the intention of looking for job opportunities. Of course, there are some who feel the Round Table is just for eating. Maybe yes, maybe a good reason to start a discussion.

The Round Table gathering has been on for a long time. While the numbers may be small, personally I think it has set the pace for social business get-togethers. I appreciate the work of Jeffrey and Susan, who have set the ground work for SHC, and I think we can now move on to bigger and more entrepreneur type gaterings. AndrewK has been a strong supporter of this activity.

Over the many Round Tables so far, I have noticed a higher ratio of men. Some of the discussions and ideas are good; but perhaps due to the small numbers of participants, it is difficult to find a business or network match. Imagine if the Round Table group expands to 50 or 100, the opportunities are higher, and connections become an entrepreneur asset.

So, thank you very much, Jeffrey and Susan, and to all who have participated in the Round Tables. I have discussed with Jeffrey and Susan before, and one of the weakness of not being able to link up with SMEs or other social business groupings is our identity. The SilverHairsClub is well known in Singapore, among our age group. However, it lacks recognition as an entity. Companies and associations do not recognise our existence.

SilverHairs Enterprise PL has just been set up, and it takes over the ownership of SilverHairsClub and SilverHairsClub.com. While this is a business entity, it will create social enterprise activities for the over 45s in Singapore.

In the coming months, feel free to expand your ideas and activities for the benefit of enhancing social business gatherings in Singapore. Round Table should continue to provide that same platform for these group of SilverHairs to meet new acquantances with business and entrepreneur interest. Have fun.

  8. Sue & Jeff

After having attended the long awaited SHC’s Round Table social-cum-business dinner on 30 Sept 2011, I would like to state and commend that the sumptuous 8-course dinner party was conducted in an air of informality and cordiality where every diner could speak and joke freely on various subjects of interest without offending each other. Goodwill, respect and love prevailed.

In fact, there were more compliments expressed during sharing and caring time among participants. Indeed, I found the gathering interesting and informative. My hat off to the efficient and responsible organisers – Sue and EO Jeff for making the event an enjoyable and memorable one. I certainly look forward to attending the next dinner party.
