  2. Hi EOs,
    Had missed the last month’s walk…
    (Missed the last month’s new cycling-venue-cum-potluck too…sigh sigh sigh…)
    Hope not to miss this one…
    Please tentatively register me…
    If I did not appear at the appointed time, do not wait…
    Thank you – Walk EO Team.

  3. Sally & Conrad, I think you should hit the at least 30 SHCians for this Walk. I believe more registrations will come closer to this Saturday.

    I am torn among 3 loves. To listen to 2 great voices of strangers (pretty oldies singing oldies) or to walk with people I know (nvm sometimes walked aimlessly) or to work (not knowing whether they’ll pay me or I’ll pay them).

    Whichever, hope it will be fine weather again.

  4. Hi EO’s,

    Have a great weekend.

  5. Hi Conrad

    Bishan MRT stn has two different lines: N-S line and Circle line. Outside exit B of which line do walkers assemble?

    Please register Jacqueline Han and me for the walk. TQ.

  6. After reading today’s ST, I will join the Walk for 3 reasons.

    First, crowded out of space, our very own bumis are angry and are attacking people. They dont read newspapers and so are unaware that Sporeans’ birthrate has actually declined and that we are not responsible for the overcrowding. One more man can come handy when there’s a need to explain it to the macaques.

    Second, there may be unmanned channels along the Walk to waylay the blur blur ones. It’s not somethg I like to miss watching if they are made to do naked squattings.

    Third, a serial pickpocket with a fetish for elderly men is on the loose. There are old men in SHC and she might come. I cant wait to be the bait.

    So how can I dont skip karaoke and work?

  7. Going to miss this walk for Oct as I will be going for the Co’s D&D on that night so not enough time for the change over but not to worry as I will be coming back to join you guys on the next walk in Nov.

    So, enjoy yourself and see you all again in Nov.

  8. Hi Conrad & Sally

    Not too late to express our Appreciation for Organising & Leading us in Saturday’s Coolest Walk in terms of weather, people & food.

  9. Hi Conrad and Sally,

    Apologies but for a belated “THANK YOU” for recceing and planning the Bishan walk.

    I forgot to ask you, remember where the trail (in Pierce) meets a T junction and we took a left to reach Casuarina Dr? Where does the right trail go to? Do you know? Have you tried?

    Cheers

  10. Hi Lydia #34,
    We did our best. Over to you hehehe.

    Hi Charles #35,
    The right turn will still lead to Old Thomson Road. Somewhere between the 2nd toilet break and Casuarina exit.

  11. Hi Conrad,

    Thanks. Where’s the next walk? Looking forward to it. Perhaps we might be lucky still and have perfect weather like we did last Saturday.

    Another question, if you don’t mind, how long was the route? Bishan Park was a mess, how long before they complete whatever they are doing there? Any idea?

    You interested in leading any treks outside Singapore? Like Fraser’s in Malaysia, Pacific Highway around the 9 Apostles in Victoria or…..??

    Cheers again

  12. Dear Event organisers,
    Thanks for the wonderful Bishan Walk organised by you guys. Your effort has not gone to waste. I like the nice sceneries along the way especially the pierce trail and the company of all the friendly SH’s members. Hope to see all again for next month walk. Jia You!

  13. The rain stayed away;
    The clouds the sun hid; anxiety ceased;
    A near perfect outing day!
    No wonder the walkers were pleased.

    And off they leisurely strolled,
    Passing a wide canal with no water flow.
    Someone noticed a hanging melon looking bold,
    And many stopped to admire the solitary fellow.

    Then appeared an enclosed small dog playground;
    Frisking about inside, many a small doggie,
    And a larger one that ought not to be around,
    And a big, shaggy, cool-looking collie.

    Into Peirce reservoir strolled the walkers –
    Ah! The tranquility! So uplifting!
    Dogs running happily, freed from their tethers;
    Anglers fishing quietly; families picnicking.

    And wild monkeys near the walkers came;
    A playful walker called out ‘Wendy’ to a monkey;
    The primate ignored the name;
    The real Wendy got angry!

    With reservations down, juvenile spirit took over;
    The walkers, now energetic boys and girls,
    Trod the secluded boardwalk in the forest bower,
    Listening to buzzing gnats and squealing invisibles.

    And a sigh of relief heaved at trail’s end;
    And headed they straight for delicious prata,
    Just around the Casuarina Road bend.
    Methinks: it does not cost much to be happy. Eureka!

    TQ EOS for ‘blazing the trail’ :)

  14. Hello, Hello Conrad & Sally

    Thanks so much for leading us. I liked the broadwalk-on- Pierce section particularly and thru’ the forest too, minus the monkeys if that’s possible.

    I’m all for Charles’ idea of an overseas trek. Have always thought Grindelwald in Switzerland would be fascinating! You never know…….. he he.

    Looking forward to the next walk!

    Cheers
    Daisy

  15. Charles #37,
    The route is about 5.5km. I have no idea when the makeover for lower Bishan Park will be completed. As for overseas trek, the walk team only organize local walk.

    Lucy #38,
    Glad you like the walk. Do join us for more.

    Jassmine #39,
    I am lost for words! Your thousand words is better than a picture.

    Daisy #40,
    Me too. I went to Switzerland many years back. Certainly a good country for trekking.

    Thanks all for the good company
    Conrad

  16. My Reflection:-

    8th Oct 2011 a Saturday
    A bright and sunny day
    SHC members enjoyed and remembered
    Bishan MRT Exit B we gathered

    EO Conrad Tang counting one by one Attendance List
    Ensuring names tallied and not to miss
    Scheduled time 4.30 pm off we proceeded
    Our walk along a wide canal all followed

    Midway Bishan Park our toilet break
    Business to fulfill before going ahead
    Energy rejuvenated afresh some chit chat
    Some new while others never met

    Tranquility and pollution free surround
    Trees and greenery all abound
    Animal lovers with pet dogs around
    Running jumping up and down

    Lower Pierce Reservoir we passed
    Group photograph down memory lane a must
    Clear still water the background
    A cloudy sky beckoning sun setting down

    Monkeys here and there
    Caught our attention everybody’s stare
    Along the boardwalk we trodded
    Our journey almost completed

    Before 7 pm Casuarina Road our destination
    While some not sure of road direction
    Where an Indian restaurant along Upp Thomson Road
    No Chinese food no steamboat

    Roti prata mee goreng tea and coffee
    All seated for dinner no need ceremony
    Walk ended well a nice enjoyable day
    Till then let’s meet again the SHCians’ way

  17. Hi Eddy
    I enjoy reading your poem – got another perspective of the walk. This line is especially beautiful: “Group photograph down memory lane a must”

    Hope to see more poems from you. :)

    Cheers,

  18. Hi Eddy & Jassmine

    Both your beautiful poems attest the success of our Walks, and for this, our Walk Team takes a humble bow.

    As a new addition to the Team, I aspire to do my best to uphold this reputation.

    Always Learning,
    LS

  19. Hi Lydia Soh & Jassmine Teo,

    Thank you for your compliments. It’s my pleasure. The monthly
    walk is a good way to maintain the SHCians’ camaraderie and also helps to keep
    us as fit as a fiddle.

    Happy walking!

    EL
