This is our 1st walk for 2020 :D :D :D

We chose this route to walk less within the Park!

Let’s stroll upstream along the river banks; see water ripples
swirling through natural rocks, waters that glisten in the sun;
provides an exceedingly soothing and therapeutic peace to the mind.

An initiative by PUB was launched in 2006 to transform our waterways into
beautiful streams with natural materials, waterscapes; creating spaces for
the community to enjoy and increase biodiversity.

Bishan-AMK park was one of the flagship projects under this transformation programme between PUB and NParks.

The park which is located in urban central Singapore was transformed from a concrete canal to having a natural “Kallang River” flowing into and
through the park, an immense project never done before.

The park now with lush greenery, grassy lawns, playgrounds, ponds, are all
ideal for family picnics and gatherings; fitness enthusiasts cycle or pant
along well-maintained tracks.

The walk leaving us tired and hungry will culminate for dinner at AMK Hub.

Note:
No or limited shelters, good to have your brollies with you.
Water to hydrate on a hot day.
Need energy, bring along a snack.
To breeze along, lighten your load.

Walk Team: Charles Wee, Veronica Wong, Mary Tan, Azhari Cuttilan,
Linda Chua and I, ChristinA Chan…. signing off!

This is an EC activity . You can bring your adult friends who are 45 and above.

Posted on August 25, 2020 by ChristinA Chan (Walking group leader)

THIS is NOT a registration post for a walk.
A separate post will be posted in due time as usual.

For reference, we have had ceased our monthly walks since the month
of July 2020 due to the spike of COVID-19.

All of us are aware, there could be still asymptomatics around.

Hence, at this stage, we are unable to comment if we will resume
our monthly walks on a regular basis.

However, I am keen to have a walk for the month of September 2020.

I would like to highlight SOME guidelines as follows:
(More might be added as & when necessary).

1) we shall ADHERE STRICTLY with the guidelines set by relevant
authorities ie., face mask, safe distancing are required, X numbers
allowed at any one time. If one comes with a face shield, you must
also wear a face mask.

It will be good if you would check your temperature before
setting out to our meeting place for said walk(s); should you do not
feel well, kindly stay home.

2) For now, the walk will be in groups of 5s; should not mingle with
another group during the entire walk.

3) Anyone who do not, will not follow required guidelines, kindly do
not attend our walks; else you will still be told to leave at once!

4) Should anyone be reprimanded / caught by representative of
authorized authority and/or penalties monetary or otherwise, this
person shall personally be responsible!

5) I and my walk team reserves the right to decision(s) make/formed
by us for our walks.

Positive feedbacks are welcomed :D

ps: Walkists, if possible drop me an email or WhatsApps with your
mobile contacts (my apology, I had misplaced participants’s contacts
esp the newer or once a blue moon :0)

Monthly walks

The recent spike has helped us to note that COVID-19 has the capacity to spread irregardless the person(s) shown symptoms of infection or not.

Therefore for the Public good, the team & I has decided to cease all monthly walks Indefinitely till news of COVID-19 show more positive direction that it is well under control.

We shall observe the government guidelines on group gathering, etc.

Individually, those who are well are encouraged to exercise, build up your immunity; get some sunshine by taking short walks perhaps around your neighborhood :D

Let’s stroll upstream along the river banks to our destination!
We had visited this park a couple of times some years back and had seen portions being boarded up for major refurbishments.

An initiative by PUB was launched in 2006 to transform our waterways into beautiful streams with natural materials, waterscapes; creating spaces for the community to enjoy and increase biodiversity.

Bishan-AMK park was one of the flagship projects under this transformation programme between PUB and NParks.

The walk leaving us tired and hungry will culminate with dinner at Teck Ghee Court Food Cente.
From here are buses available to either Bishan or AMK MRT.

Monthly Walk : A Rustic Park Experience

Date: Saturday, 8 June 2019

Time: 4.15pm sharp

Meeting Place : Use Exit C from Punggol Mrt Station to Punggol Bus Interchange (Berth 5 Bus Service 84)

Duration: approx 2.5hrs

ECs: Veronica Wong & Mary Tan

Discover the rustic charms of Coney Island or Pulau Serangoon, home to a wide variety of habitats, including coastal forests, grasslands, mangroves, and casuarina woodlands. In keeping with the ideal of environmental sustainability, the signs, seats and even the boardwalk on the island are made from Casuarina timber from uprooted trees. Coney Island Park still feels like a world away from urbanity.

We will walk along the Promenades paved areas to enjoy the views of passing ships and Johor’s shoreline. Take photo at the famous Coney Island gate. Stroll along the earth paths, exploring the forest and mangrove habitats. Opportunities to observe and try spotting wildlife or listen to the chirping of birds. If you encounter any animals, keep a safe distance from them, do avoid approaching them. Do not feed the monkeys, or hold any plastic bag and water bottle when visiting the park. We move on to the beach areas which provide a nice seaside break after sweating out on walking.

Walk will end back at the Western Entrance. For those who wish to have dinner, there are eateries at the nearby Punggol Settlement.

Tips to prepare for a safe and enjoyable walk ………………..
Dress comfortably, advisable to wear long pants and covered walking shoes; bring drinking water to stay hydrated; wear a hat, put on sunglasses and apply sunscreen to shield yourself from the sun; apply insect repellent if you are prone to insect bites; bring umbrella or raincoat.

This is not a walk in the park ….. this is an Adventure you may not want
to miss!

Let’s get closer to nature.. C’mon on, strap on a good pair of hiking shoes!

We will trek through some overgrowth, hike Uphill, to visit site(s) that once
even had disappeared from the maps of Singapore for more than 60years;
was rediscovered, yet hidden.

Note:
1st leg of this walk — depends much on the weather.
Should there be heavy rain on Friday, we might need to “change” route
as it might be too slippery to hike uphill & down.

IF above happens then will walk only the 2nd leg…. m still thinking :)

To avoid confusion, meeting place (**) shall remain unchanged.
IF you are not sure of the location of the meeting place, ASK early.

Strongly recommend:

  1. wear long pants, covered shoes with ankle socks unless you wish to
    get bites.
  2. Hiking poles — it helps as there ain’t railings or anything to hold
  3. Brollies, caps and bottle of water to stay hydrated.

As we might end at 2pm, I will provide a small snack.

IF no rain the day before and esp on day itself, will include the Forest trail ????

It has been a couple of years since we scale up our country’s only Mount!
Time for a revisit to one of SG’s oldest park.

With nimble feet you shall rise up the Mount, to join tourist to behold the
panoramic view of our skyline, the southern part of SG and the southern
islands.
These views shall take your breath away, not so much the climb itself!

It is still very popular with tourist as there are a host of things to enjoy besides
the secondary rain forest that covers this mount.

Gentle Reminder:
1) Always wear comfortable shoes; light, loose clothing; bring a bottle of water
to stay hydrated; poncho/umbrella.
2) Optional items: cap, sun block, camera/binoculars, insect repellent.
3) Bring only the necessities, light is good.

Let’s pray for a clear day for us to enjoy stunning views from the peak!

walk different parts of this connector in 2007 and 2010.

Let’s look forward to walk a longer stretch (about 8km), if possible.

The walkway is well paved and hope to cross a bridge which was a portion of the defunct Jurong Railway which was closed in the 1990s.

As the trail runs besides a canal that flows into Sungei Pandan; among the trees and shrubs look out for butterflies flitting among the greenery; colorful birds eg., the magnificent Purple Neck Heron, Kingfishers, Red-Capped Woodpeckers or the White Egret.

The festive seasons have ended… good time to stretch and walk off the flabs :D

Due to the recent incident of big trees being uprooted, our walk routes are limited.
In view of the safety for all participants during this rainy season, we have changed this walking route to a pleasant yet interesting trail!

For greenery, we will pass through 2 small parks; will see the only Buddhist temple outside Myanmar built in the traditional Burmese architectural style; a chic cafe; a villa built in late 1800s was restored and open to the public in 2001; Singapore’s first civil airport terminal built in 1937 but ceased operation in 1955 and used by various groups; other interesting landmarks like the longest HDB block.

There’s two end points, it depends on time, weather and participants’ energy level:
1) Kallang MRT or
2) Sports Hub

Bring water bottles, caps, umbrellas and cameras. Do wear comfortable walking shoes.

Look forward to your early registration! :D :D
