  1. Hi Yatsing,

Well done for initiating the November monthly gathering at a place away from town. This is obviously unusual, There has been so much talk about the Sengkang as the new getaway leisure spot in Singapore. And, very nice of you to introduce members to that location.

Won’t be able to join. But I can see you have themed the event very well, as well as making plans for newbies too.

Again, thank you for this great initiative.

    Terence Seah

  2. Dear Members,

Dong Zhi (winter solstice) is not till December, but if you all don’t mind, I wish to bring the occasion forward for us to enjoy tang-yuan together on a relaxing evening at a lovely place by the river, before the busy rush of Christmas. These days, tang-yuan is prepared in many imaginative ways. Each person to please bring 10 pieces of cooked tang-yuan to share – any flavour is welcome, hot or cold. Bring your own water bottle too. You may bring other round/spherical-shaped food, if you wish.

If you are able to come early, do take a stroll on the nearby boardwalk (Floating Wetlands), and along the green trails of the park. The aromatic pandan scent around the area may make you want to linger! If our timing is right, a migratory flock of white birds can be seen perched on their favourite tree across the river after nightfall.

The Viewing Gallery, part of the Sengkang Riverside Park, behind Anchorvale Community Club, is along the Serangoon park connector. It has sufficient bench seating for 150 persons, and a deck for optional games/dancing/performance. I hope the rising tide of the river that evening – 2.5m around 8pm – will bring a cool breeze for us under the full-moon night sky.

  3. Dear Yatsing
Thank you for organizing this event which takes place near my new home. Please include me for this event. Will there be any line dancing like last time?
Btw I also don’t really know how to make those peanut-filled tang yuan which I like to eat. How? Apa macam? Can don’t bring or not?
    Cheers…
    Laura

  4. Hi EO

My friend told me that even I don’t know how to make the ??, I can get them from NTUC or other supermarkets with very affordable price. My problem solved and no more excuse to come with empty hands or two bunch of bananas (honestly speaking, this is my original intention, paishe)

    Thanks for counting me in.

  5. Dear Members Andrew, Frisna, Laura, Audrey, CharlesW, ThomasL, and Steven Ng,

Thank you all for joining in this friendly chat about tang-yuan; I really appreciate your constructive participation.

Andrew#8 – We like tangyuan; i am sure we also don’t mind having the alternative bananas! :-)

Frisna#4 – Have a great trip! Go safely and come back safely. Will catch up with you at next monthly gathering.

LauraW#5 – Hello neighbour! Congrats on your new home!

Audrey#6 – Yes and yes. Hope you can join us. Cya there?

Charles Wee#7 – Thanks for sharing “River of No Return”. I listened to Marilyn Monroe on youtube – she sang it with such feeling. Here’s another one: River of Dreams (Billy Joel) :-)

ThomasL #9 – Looking to catch up with you soon!

Steven Ng #10 – Great suggestion! Thanks! Other places offer tangyuan too, e.g. dessert stalls, Mr Bean, Fengshan food centre, etc. etc.

    Great going, everyone!

  6. hi yat sing

here is my favourite river song; it is about the river seine in france – “under the bridges of paris” – hope you can find a copy…

see you at the monthly meet…

  7. Hi YatSing,

I am not so sure why, but I notice that there are a number of codes embedded in this Post. I have removed them; so I hope this speeds up the web site loading.

If there is anything wrong, please let me know. You can of course make changes now.

    Terence Seah

  8. Dear Members,

Some members may think that they will not join in because they are unable to arrive by 6 pm. It is true that many of you are working and do not finish work by 5pm, or 6pm, or even 7pm. I want to say, “Don’t worry, you can come over after 6 pm. I am on site to welcome you at 10pm, with tang-yuan…Pandan flavour, can?” :-)

Hope you all had a chance to listen to the soothing melody “Under the bridges of Paris”. Thank you, Daniel O. for the tip.

To Lily & company : You are all on!

  9. Hi Yatsing, I’m new here. Would love to join but will confirm again. Just having a thought and wondering how such event goes. If everyone is to bring tangyuan, so believe would be just one or two persons’ portion, right? else wouldn’t there be too much? If I’m coming, can I bring titbits instead?

  10. Hi YatSing,

I have removed all the formats on this Post. Not so sure why, but there appears hundreds of html codes inside the Post, and slowing the Post. All text should be the same.

  11. A big warm hello to newcomers Theresa Seow, Esther Wong, and Dorine Tan! Welcome to SHC! So glad you all can join us.
We look forward to meet you all. :-)

Hi Dorine, you are right – the generosity of SHC members is overwhelming when it comes to potluck – we usually have so much food, we may eat till morning, as one SHC friend said.:-)
So, yes, bring only 10 pieces of tang-yuan, or tidbits (round ones, ok? for reunion. :-) ) Thanks.

  12. Daniel Ong,

“i think it is gonna rain on that day and all the rivers will be flooded….” :-D I like the way it sounds! Made me think of The Drifters “Up on the Roof” :-D

I hope the rain in Sengkang stays mainly in the cloudy terrain.

  13. Hi Yatsing
Please include me and my wife,Lilian, for the gathering. We will be there. Thanks for organising this event. We have not attended Silverhairs events for some time and hope to catch up with friends old and new.

  14. Hi Members,

The music is ready, the tang-yuan smells good, tea is hot, the beer chilled…I’m looking forward to a lovely gathering with you all under the stars.

If you are a new member, and think maybe you would like to join in, don’t think twice!…Just come! :-)

    Cya!

  15. Hi Yatsing,

  16. Hi Dorine,

I am sorry too that we didn’t get to meet you yesterday.
I hope we’ll have a chance to catch up on Dec 6 at Han’s Cafe (pls see Terence Seah’s post). I look forward to say hello to you in person, and to introduce many lovely SHC people to you.

    Cya then! :-)

  17. Thanks Yatsing, it’s very nice of you and really wish to meet you too. I wanted to but might be working late again. Is it ok if I just pop in if time permits? Btw, does anyone here likes swimming. Noting that there’s a gathering at Safra Tampines tmr, am thinking of going there for a swim, wonder if any singer goes there for swimming too?

  18. Hi Dorine,

You are welcome to join the meeting at Han’s on Dec 6, after your work. Will have Terence put your name on the list.

The event on Nov 27 at Safra Tampines is Canto Karaoke Tea Party. If you are joining them, you are welcome to sign up at Pearl Wong’s post.

I found out from Safra that if you are a Safra member, it is free entry (for you and guest) on weekend to the swimming pool. It is not open to the public on weekend. Hope this helps. :-)

  19. I am very glad that finally I attended the first SHC’s activities yesterday evening. Have sent a last minute email to Yatsing for my attendance and her reply email makes no excuse anymore not to come. She wrote, “you can join last minute, and I want to welcome you”. There is a difference between “I like to welcome you” and “I want to welcome you”

Here are the new and old members that I met yesterday.

Yatsing – the warmth EO who makes the newbies very comfortable and welcome Plays a good EO, who keep offering food to members.

Laura Wee – part-time teacher whom wish to spend more time with her children

Hou Chong – the man remembers “13 dots” “???”

Lena Ng – sorry if I spelt the name wrongly. The tallest lady amongst the gals yesterday.

Andrew Yeung – may be old in age, but “Yeung” always

John Howe – the guitarist and baked good tapioca kueh

Thomas Loh – the Casanova as described by members. Asking someone’s name card who is going to retired….Hmm…hmm…

Daniel Ong – SHC dance instructor (understand more than 1 dance instructor in SHC)

Dolly Lim – the SHC club manager, lovelier than photos

Sam Goh – the man with loud and jovial voice. Remember to put +1 huat at the end of your signoff, Sam huat huat huat huat. (4848) Huat Ah !!!

Lily Ho – as pretty as in photos.

Doug Chan – the cyclist who appeared in full sport gear.

Theresa Seow – works in stressful advertising firm. Hopes yesterday able to unwind some stress.

Malcolm Chen – The first corporate member. Good voice and can sing both English and Chinese songs

Bee Gek – the pretty lady in nonya outfit.

Lam Hoy Tzee – the quiet man sitting up there watching….

Peggy Tan – another pretty lady, a certified pharmacist

Peri Liew – yet another pretty lady (SHC a lot of pretty ladies..yeah…)

Koh Tong Seng + Lilian Koh – remember the Pulau Tekus Police Station when you are in Penang

Robert Tan + Serene Leow – also attending the dance class

Chrissa Tan – the newbie who share good info about her niece’s blog (hope you are the right person)

Did I miss out anyone else? Sorry if I miss you.

I have uploaded the photos here, https://picasaweb.google.com/102995348080340644422/TangYuanReunionAnchorvaleCCViewingGallery?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOZ25Dd0syH5wE#.

Wonder if I can upload directly to SHC webpage.

For those who wants me to contact you, please email to june.choo@yahoo.com.sg and leave your contact no. Please state that you are SHC members.

Thanks again Yatsing for organising this event.

  20. Hi Yat Sing,
It was indeed a well organised mthly gathering last nite with plenty of food and a group of nice members (new and pioneer 1s). Doe I must say that tis plc was reli alien 2 me but heng ah, I got a lift from Lily, if not, sure lost in transit 1.. Thanks buddy.

Hi June, nice photos. You can send these photos to Sockie at email address sockie_sg@hotmail.com, who is our picture manager for Y2011 so that she can upload these photos to the SHC website. I am also pleased to get to know you also.. Hope to see u at other activities also… Cheers.. Dolly

  21. halo ah EO yatsing & picture mgr sockie mei ti ah …

i , now blurr 2 liao…de photo i tot is taken by june choo

not june goh lei ? correct me if , i am xxx hor…maybe my mak chew still not fully awake hor…

sorry to kay poh here hor…mai hot lah…ai happy tio ho ….sam huat huat huat

  22. DANG !!!! It took me more than 6 attempts to successfully put up the photos and I got the photographer’s name wrong, my aplologies to June Choo and thanks to Sam Huat Huat for pointing out the mistake.

I also recieved a request from a member (on behalf of another member) to remove a few photos for personal reason…this time I had acceded to the request because I had to re-do the album to correct the above mistake…which unfortuantely took me another 3 attempts before any success ARRRGGGHHH

I do have ‘standing instruction’ from some members not to post thier pictures and for them I do make a concious effort do so but I cannot be made responsible for those who do not make their requests known before hand or photos not taken by me

I had reminded members time and time again that if you do not want to have your photos posted for whatever reason, then pls let the event photographer know in advance or like what we always say ‘siam’ the camera.

Uploading photos is not a simple matter of just dragging and dropping nor is it just simply a click of the mouse to delete a photo and this is not fun especially when I keep getting errors with my PC.

I will be finishing my term by Dec 2011 and handling the responsibilities to King Seng, the new Picture Manager so for those who do not wish their photos to be seen on the website can you please liaise with him from next year onwards ….. but be warned that I will still be walking around with my camera at some functions so remember to ‘siam’ me if you do not want to be ‘caught’ :0)

    Sockie

  23. Thank you, June Choo :-), and thank you, Sockie :-), for the beautiful photos of our tang-yuan gathering.

Your contribution and your effort is truly heartwarming, and I deeply appreciate it. Thank you again. :-)

  24. Hi Sockie

First I would like to apologise for giving you so much problems in uploading the pictures. Before sending the photos, I have actually linked the photos to my Picasa album, and if there is any photos need to be delete, it can highlight to me before sending for uploading to SHC.

All photos sent in the earlier email are in a zip output, hopefully this can ease the trouble of sending photographs via multiple emails. The receiver will then need to unzip the files and uploading as usual. There shouldn’t be any problem with the photos as they are all in the usual jpeg format.

After requesting to resend again, I have resent via two emails, but this time in unzip format but it still seems there is some difficulties again and need 3 attempts to successfuly uploaded. Puzzle…

As I read from the comments, it seems that each time there is an update/delete or descriptions of the photos uploaded, the whole procedure got to redo again. That puzzle me again and to understand what wordpress do, I create a blog in wordpress just a moment ago, before my departure to Bangkok this afternoon. The great things about creating blogs in the web is actually quite the same for all , in terms of if you have the admin rights to post or upload, ie being able to edit the html page.

Whether the photos uploading is using another third party software or inbuilt uploading features, it all comes back to the post page itself. That means, you can actullay edit at the html page to amend the post directly. This will save the trouble of reloading all over again. By saying that, I understand that not many people understand html, but if this need to save all the trouble to reload again, maybe can email to the administrator to help in update or remove any photos at the back end.
It must being stressfull for you all this years when encountered numerous problems when uploading the photos, requesting to delete photos, etc etc . But without you, we would not being able to see the past and current photos. Photos tell a thousand stories and through all this archived photos, we get to know how active and talented the SHCians are.

Btw, I have seen your photos at your shutterfly website. Nice pictures.

Regards and Merry Christmas to you and a Happy 2012 Year!
