How was your first time?

They say TEENAGE is the time when we are curious about our body and there are many first experences. We were curious, inquisitive and experimental. The romantics  say we must treasure our first experience. Practical people like me just try to get more experience and be good at it.  At that age, we often talk about it, speculate about it and mostly the boys boast about it.

Of course not everyone is dirty like me. I am aware that there are  ‘respectable ladies ‘ here in this forum who do not even want to read about IT. I think they are still waiting to savour it.

I believe this saying is wrong. When we are past 45 years old you would find that there are more  first time experiences that will happen to your bodies then you had when you were  a teenager. And we should talk and learn more about them, less we are lead astray.  For example, the first time your hairs starts to turn silver, the first time your hair disappears, the first time we waited till the bus stops completely before we ambark, the first time you walk up the overhead bridge instead of running across the road, the first time you notice you cannot run . Than comes your first heart attack, your first stroke, your first catarac, the first time you make sure to stand very close to the urinal or your feet will get wet.

I am therefore intrigued that there are so few people here willing to share their first experences here.  Are they just waiting for them to happen again than get better at it the next time. Or maybe they want to savour it because it will be their first time.

I hope, like Jacqualine, Kenneth and others you will be more willing to come forward to share your experiences. There is nothing to be shy about your first time experiences. We are not a teenager anymore and we should learn as much as possible and early. Then perhaps we will not turn frigid  when the next  ‘First Experience’ comes.

  1. I wrote this post last week after reading Kenneth Tan’s comment about having more health issues as we grow older. I was sick then and things are happening to my body which surprises me. So I hope we can share more of our experiences and reduce the number of surprises as we live on.

On the Sunday before last, I had a nice plate of Chai Tau Kway for breakfast. It gave me indigestion for the whole day and by nightfall I vomited out everything that was in my stomach. After that, I was died exhausted and lay in bed the whole of the next day. Now this is not new. Many of you including myself have had that before.

But when I get up on Tuesday, I lost my voice and cannot talk. That is the first time I have experience that. I rang up my doctor and he knew what has happen from my mumbling. He said the acid from my stomach has burnt my throat when my stomach content came out during vomiting. This is a new experience which I have not had before.

So I remain quiet and drank lots of water on Wednesday. Thinking that I should be laughing in the golf course and joining friends for dinner the next day.

Come Thursday morning, I walked to my car and found myself panting and quite unable to breath and feeling noxious. I thought opps, my final heart attack is here. Someone drove me to the doctor. He gave me ECG test and said I am not having a heart attack. I was just exhausted from eating the Chai Tau Kway and vomiting. This is the first time a little stomach upset can lead to near collapse. Another first experience with my body.

A pop pills on Wednesday and Thursday, drank loads of water, sit on my rocking chair and watch pretty girls putting balls into holes on TV, expecting that I will go lunch with some SHC friends and attend the monthly meet on Friday.

Come Friday morning, I was able to able to go and take pictures in the nature reserve and call Steven Chen to get him out of his house but without success. There I was trying to help him but on my way home I feel so sick that I decide to drive straight to the doctor again. He said I had some water in my lung and the blood in my heart is not flowing properly. I went home, took his medicine and continue to watch the girls putting balls into holes.

I did that the whole weekend. But last night I woke up at 2 am with cramps on my legs. I thought I am going to have a stroke ending with a crooked mouth and saliva drooping continuously. I called my doctor, he ask if it is both legs or just one. I said both legs, he says it was just muscle cramps from the dehydration tablets he gave me. I think he was glad to go back to bed with his wife, my niece.

Now I am well but dare not get around too much. I feel quite ignorant about my body and wishing that I am still a boy dreaming about how it will be like on the first time.

  2. Hi Tian Soo

I’m now eating some noodles which I bought from the market and which I’ve never tried before. Had thought it’s hand made noodles but it turned out to be yellow noodles, smaller version.

My soup is all slaky. Lazy to drench the food with hot water and take them dry so I will just avoid drinking the soup to minimize intake of too much slake lime.

Wonder if it’ll affect me and if I will survive to tell? Please wish me luck.

So, what was it in the Chai Tau Kway that affected your stomach? A case of it being too oily, vicious foreign matters or…..? Do take care

    Finished my noodles liao…..

  3. Hi Tian Soo,

I was about to start a new post whe I read your experience.

Just last Sunday I had two hours of bedminton. All was fine, I went to lunch with some of the players, had a bowl of slice fish soup with mee sua. For sessert it was bobochacha cold, I request no sugar yet when I tasted it was still sweet. Still feeling greedy I order chendol and specify no sugar.

I was tired when I reached home and wanted a nap, suddenly I experience foot cramp in both legs. I could not sleep as it was painful, I have to keep walking round the house, cannot even sit down as the cramps is quite severe. It lasted for about one hour. Like Tian Soo, I once have a severe clamp which was excruciating i the the middle of the night. I moan and groan all to myself.

Some say it may due to not enough salt, some say I did not warm up before playing, some say it must be the weather as it was reaining, some say maybe not enough It.

Finally I was okay and no more pain. It usually happened after my bedminton game. I now try to have more warm up. When will the next cramp appear, how can I avoid it? Is there a doctor in the house?

I use to visit the doctor every three months to have my glucose and blood pressure check. My last visit was almost nine months ago. The doctor prescribe different pills almost like the rainbow colors. Now I am left with only one color. On my last visit my doctor told me, come back in three month and if your glucose level is high, you will be put on the needle! Since then I did not go back because I will faint when I see the needle. My eyes drop was used up about a month ago and I have yet to replenish it.

I have just hit three score and wonder whether I should be paying more attention to these life signal?

A plate of Chai Tau Kway gave you indigestion and there you were, wanting lots of wantons which I mentioned that you may have indigestion……..sigh.

So, no more chai tau kway let alone wontons, having to stand closer to the urinal etc sound depressing.

My first time as in losing the V word? Not sharing but can share about menopause which sucks, big time. Aged at least ten years and practically everything falls apart.

Have to take hormone pills to look human and still people think I am a man. Another sigh……….

  5. Hi TS

I am not a doctor to give a diagnosis, but from the systems you described the malady, it looks like you had food poisoning from eating the chai tau kway.
Many years ago, I experienced the same illness from eating hawker food. Also, as we get older, our body system is not so robust anymore. A young person who ate the same food served by the same hawker might not get the illness.
As for the leg cramps, it tends to happen to older people too. Generally, if the legs are exposed to cold environment, such as swimming in cold water, sleeping with the fans blowing at the legs for the whole night, then leg cramps will occur.
As you can still watch girls putting balls into holes, I think your illness is not that serious. Hahahaha.
Cheers and continue to do what you enjoy best.

  6. Hahaha!! Tian Soo

As usual, you always have some tongue-in cheek humour and say the darndest things.

We all have our “first times” and the experience continues thoughout our lives. But whether they be good or bad, exciting or just plain boring, life changing or just “duh”, we are having to face them everyday.

I am talking more about problem “first times” especially when we age and our minds, bodies and reflexes are no longer the same.

I had a nasty car accident last Sunday after dropping off the family. It was slightly drizzling and I drove a bit forward to look for a parking space. Then I decided to slowly back into a possible spot. All of a sudden the car lurched backwards and accelerated, I couldn’t control it at all, and it slammed into a concrete planter box with great force. Needless to say, I was shakened, the car’s back was totally smashed… I just couldn’t believe or explain what happened. Did my foot slip on the accelerator? Was the car faulty? It was fortunate that no one was hurt, no other property damaged (I did break some flower pots), thank God!

My fear of growing old are these “first times”: the first time you fall and break a bone, the first time you feel a pain in your chest, the first time that lump or ache turns into something dreaded, the first time the doctor says you may need an op.

My fear is losing “it”! And by “it” I mean my mental faculties, memory, decision-making. I read that cognitive impairment is a feature of aging; we cannot make quick and correct decisions like when we were youger. So, even in areas like investing (or trading), we are likely to make mistakes. That is why I posted about Investing Our Nest Egg: can we find a safe way to manage our money?

And that is why I think the SHC can be a platform not only for fun activities but also for discussion and interest groups which can support members. We need to address the issues of living and aging, health and wealth, giving back or paying it forward… May SHC continue to thrive and strive for its members!

  7. Tian Soo, Kenneth, Dan,

I suffered from cramps in the night too. They happened at my toes, my calves and even the whole foot.

When I consulted the doc, he advised me to take Calcium tablets, which I religiously did and voila! My cramps disappeared!

Then I thought I was better and decided to reduce the dosage and the cramps returned!

Now, Calcium is a must everyday and I’ve been taking the same for the past 10 to 20 years.

I take a mix of Calcium, Magnesium and vit D in a tablet of 1000mg 2 to 3 times a day, from GNC under the name of Calcimate 800, but you can probably get the same under various other brands.

Another thing to note is to take lots of water and a bit of salt before any sporting activity. Or a drink of an isotonic drink with lots of water.

    Cheers

  8. Hi Geradine

Hormones…………when your world turned topsy-turvy on you, glad you brought this up..

Many years ago, after reading the book about Bioidentical Hormones by Suzanne Sommers, I went to see my gynecologist for it, but she said “NO because u have already stabilized” My main reason for taking hormones is to help my degenerative disc/bones…….i wanted a quick fix, besides wanting to look “Human”. I am not comfortable to blurt out online because my fingers type faster than my brain cells. So perhaps we too can have “a ladies get together” someday talking hormones, menopause and yes Andropause as well, anyone??

    cheers

Have a great week ahead …….

  9. Hi TS,
I agree with Robert your illness can’t be that serious since you are able to ‘watch girls….”. hahahaha. Nevertheless, at our age, it is understandable we often imagined the worst whenever we experience any unusual symptoms. Of course, it is prudent to be cautious.
Mary night cramps. I have encounter this problem before. The pain in the calf when you stretch your legs. I keep my toes in an upward position, hold it with the fingers when i sense the cramp is about to happen. It always work for me.
We all know when we aged, our list of ailments starts to lengthen. It’s inevitable, and part of our human condition. So…we have no choice… but learn to accept them. And do what is practical and available.

  10. My first time was absolutely scary.
I came down with very high fever for no reason. The doctor at Siglap says I had the bug and prescribed antibiotics. Fever didn’t subside after 5 days but got worse. Went back again to the same doc and requested a dengue test, as I was living in the East at the time. She did and the test was negative. She still insisted it was the flu and prescribed more medicines. I was so sick, almost dying and worst, I was living alone at the time, I dragged myself to the hospital.

At A&E, I was rushed to X-ray and immediately told I had severe pneumonia. My entire right lung was affected. Immediately hospitalized and given antibiotics intravenously. I was so relieved that they found out what was wrong with me. The next 12 days in hospital was a torture – fever and lots of pain in the chest. The drama was not over so easily. The antibiotics didn’t work, so the lung specialist was afraid for me. He was upfront and said he needed to test for cancer. After an endoscopy and a culture done, I received the results – cancer = negative, bacteria pneumonia = positive. I was so relieved at the time, as I was the breadwinner for my old folks. Dr. Chan changed the antibiotics and I eventually recovered and given a 2nd chance to live.

That was not all. After a month of medical leave and having missed all my exercises at the gym, I decided to take up rollerblading. Whilst practicing at Bishan Park, I clashed with a reckless youth, fell and broke by left wrist. Landed in hospital again, all within two months from the last discharge. The doctor at A&E didn’t believe my story and made a Polie report that I may have been abused. The police force (two men) came to interview me at my hospital bed.

Luckily, I didn’t need surgery but had to carry my left hand in a cast for 6 months. The cast was fitted in such a way that my left fingers were free and could move. I was back at work immediately after a day at the hospital. Didn’t dare take more medical leave. I had since given away my rollerblade boots and promised not to go there again. My colleagues were intrigued with my series of bad luck. They played 4D with my staff number, hoping to win. The bad luck rubbed on them too. Kekekeke.

  11. Dan

I envy you for being able to play badminton. We should always continue to enjoys physical games as long as we can. They are healthy and fun. The problem is to know when to stop. As we age you have to watch out for the first sign that tells you it is time to stop. I stop playing squash at 45 years old after a calf tendon tear followed by a thigh muscle tear a few months later. Time to stop, no problem. I stop jogging at 59 because of a heart attack while jogging. That was a first experience and not a good way to find out that that was my body’s limit.

I also have muscle cramps on my fingers after golf games. I use muscle compression arm sleeves and the cramps stop. They have them for legs as well. Try wearing during your badminton games a few times and see if it works. They also have them like tights. You can do ballet at the badminton court, but your crotch is also compressed….beware of Andropause.

  12. I have encountered muscle cramp on and off since young. Once it happened I will felt a strange pain and automatically wake myself from sleep. I just stand up straight for a minute and it will go away.

I have and still taking Calcium (calcium carbonate 450mg; Vit D 200iu) regularly for more than 10 years which was prescribed by my doctor after X-ray show that I have a slip-disc. Back then I cannot walk more than 100 meters without feeling a intriguing pain and have to rest for a while before I continue. I have to stop my regular jogging.

A few years back my doctor finally confirmed that he cannot locate any slip disc and approve my desire to restart my physical exercises.

  13. Kenneth

Now I know why you need to invest your nest egg…. So that you can pay for destroying public property by reversing your car. It is your first time and I hope it is your last.

  14. Hi All

Looks like cramps is a common problem. On the next round table meeting, please discuss if there is a business to make from this.

As a student in Western Australia. They use to insist that we take salt tablets everyday while working in the farms during summer. They say it will prevent muscle cramps. We did because it was given free.

  15. Hi All

The first time I baked pineapple tarts. The result was disastrous.

I tried out what I learnt in school during domestic science class in secondary one more than 40 years ago. At home, there was no teacher’s guidance so I was on my own.

I stretched the dough too much and the filling was a bit overcooked but I perservered and finally I made a tray of pretty looking pineapple tarts.

My mum bit into one and asked if I could pack some for her to take along cos she was going to visit an aunt living in a village called kampong bah ta (which is now known as kaki bukit). So I asked her if she is taking them to give to the aunt she is visiting cos it tasted so good. She told me flatly that there are many dogs in the village and in case they attack her, she will throw the tarts at them to chase them away. She said that my tarts if thrown against the wall, there will be big cracks on the wall :(

    carly

  16. Thanks Charles. Will keep on trying but TS is an expert. He does not even need to try so hard.

    TS
You are crack me up. I pity the loser, really!

    Carly

  17. Some 3 years ago (cannot remember exactly which day/month) I had very high fever late in the night. My better half brought me to Changi General Hospital. After seeing the doctor, he suggested a blood test. We waited for the results and it turned out I had DENGUE FEVER! The doctor said I had to be admitted immediately. It took me by surprise as I didn’t had any mosquito bite marks on my body. I’m usually prone to mozzie bites but that time there wasn’t any bite at all. The doctor told my husband my white blood cells count was abnormally low and hence they needed to monitor me. I wasn’t afraid as I’ve heard that Dengue Fever can be fatal. I prayed and over the next few days my white blood cells count went back to normal and I was discharged from hospital.

    Cheers

  18. Terence, I recall your posting about the SHC Awards Night supposed to be in Oct 2012. I think you should include a new category – Best writer Award (Rib Tickler’s category). Thanks, TS – always love reading your creative stories to liven things up.

  19. Hi Tian Soo,

Thanks for helping to take me out but I was at my very low mood to get out even from the house. I thank you for walking with me in times of need.

Just to say take good care and eat less oily food.

  20. Hi all,

I am a new member of SHC. I have decided to join SHC because I can identify with the name of the club…more silver hairs are coming out!

Well, my first time at knitting was a disaster. Being left handed, I had warned my instructor but she confidently told me that she would use the ‘mirror’ image to teach me. I never got to complete my first piece because every time I missed a step I had to undo. Being frustrated, I even had the cheek to tell the instructor that she was a lousy teacher. In the end, I learned from You Tube.

Being left handed can drive teachers up the wall especially when they teach you the right handed way.

My first time at being a preschool teacher….the whole class switched their pencils from right to left hand. :P

  21. Hi Freda

Sorry to hear about your degenerative disc/bones. Hope you are fine now with whatever treatment that your doc gave you.

You brought up a good idea – having a ladies get-together to share our experiences about menopause. Hope you are able to organize this.

Menopause and Andropause can be a piece of cake for some but nightmarish for others. Members, do share with us your experience, even about how you cope while someone in your family goes through an awful phase in her/his live with the mood swings, neverending screaming/shouting etc.

  22. Hi Josephine

    Welcome to the club!

It would be very interesting if you were to organize an activity and right-handed members have to use their left hands and vice versa.

Am already thinking what about members like me who use either hand for certain things, for instance, I write with my right hand and uses a knife with my left.

  23. Poor Baby Goat

I can imagine your joy when your mum asked to take the tarts with her to an aunt thinking they were soooo yummie but instead………….

    Poor dogs.

  24. Have you ever had green stool??? yes, it happened one sunday morning 6 mths ago to me and i was really shocked and felt very anxious then. it was the first time it happened to me or heard abt it.
did a quick google search and possible causes range from eating too much vegetable to liver cancer.
quickly saw my gp and was advised to take 3 mths of probiotics to balance the good and bad bacteria.
since then, no more green but the usual colored stool.

  25. Dear folks

Very interesting to share on this post …. but I have limited time as I am working full time.

My boss has dengue fever … hovering for almost 3 weeks. He is still working very well in the office and travelling. The remedy is to drink papaya leaf juice. Anyone hear of this.

As for menopause and andropause, it is part of aging process which affects our quality of life.

    Keeping sharing ….

    Regards
    Helen

  26. Tian Soo

Yes, after half a century….some more and some less…. we do have lots of first time experiences, some bad and some good ones. Some do have life changing experinces whilst others are just things that happens along the way.

My major first happened in 1974 when I was still a (late) teenager and everytime I recall that particular event, I can help thinking how gutsy I was then, never stopping to think about the consequences of my action. It can be a painful experience for some and that could set one crying your eyeballs out but I was glad I was able to take it calmly and after resting at home for 2 weeks, I decided I do not want to let anyone dictate the next step for me, so I decided to take things into my own hands instead…….

To be continued….. gotta rush now or else I will be late for my class…not nice to have students waiting for me ;0)

    Sockie

  27. Hi Geraldine Ting,

Thank you for a warm welcome.

I have attended a workshop organised for parents with left-handed children. It was an eye-opener for these parents as they go out of their comfort zone to use their left hand. It was meant for parents to realise how uncomfortable it is to change something that comes naturally.

To balance my left & right brain, I write my journal with my right hand.

Sorry, no time to organise anything just yet as I am a full time teacher. Anyways, thanks for the suggestion.

    cheers

  28. Hi Ros

    Thanks for sharing.

Very lucky for you, not even hot flashes. Mine was not drenching in sweat like some women but it was uncomfortable.

    Hi TS

Salute to you, too, for starting this thread.

  30. Hi TS

Hmmmm, my first time – didnot realise that I have broken upper arm after a biking accident. Still thinking that I’m still strong only the word sprain appear in my thoughts. Luckily some of my SHC buddies urge me to get an x-ray done.

So now my arm is not as New…

We really need to take care of ourselve especially our “Health” which is very important and I believe we do not wish to be a burden to anybody. As we get more “mature” our bones become more brittle and stiff, so some excercise will do us good.

last but not least – wish ALL our SHC buddies Good Health.

    Cheers!
    Lai Fong

  31. Thanks TS, I think I got the drift. It hard to give up as this is my only form of exercise. Besides legs cramps I also experience niggerling knee pain that come and go. Now, my right hand also give problem. It painful when I play badminton and sometimes all day. Even when I try to put on my belt the pain is there. Worse was when I try to take off my t-shirt before a bath, it painful and I just endure it, otherwise I have to bathe with my t-shirt on.

When I was younger, I luv to jog and swim. Look like I have to go back to swimming but then I need a kick in the ass.

Mary, thanks too for sharing, look like we need to form a group for those ‘partner in pain’, whether it muscle cramp or pain, we can help each other, how dat?

    Dan

  32. Sockie #32

What happen to you. Write half way and go dancing. There must a an SHC against this. Cannot tahan waiting for you. How to get married like that!!!

  33. Hi SHC members,

Although I am being an inactive member, I have been reading our SHC web site at least twice a week. Due to work commitment and lately medical problems, I am away from work and SHC activities for long time.

For the past 2 years, I had shoulder dislocation (joint worn out again although had 2 operations done – last one 13 years ago). After which I had Spondylisis which again keep me out of work for more then 2 months. So, I have 2 ops in hand.

My latest medical problem is a “real pain in ass” It started with going to toilet 2 to 3 times. Later, I had constipation and after which it was “pain in ass”. Went to OPD and after examination was given cream to apply and anti biotic with 3 days MC. On the 3rd day I had to go to A & E as I had fever and could not sit at all.

Had an internal operation immediately, 2 days stay and due to short fall of beds, I was discharged with 2 weeks of MC. Need to carry out flushing thru tubes inserted inside and dressing daily at nearby clinic. On the 4th day had high fever again and buttock swell. Given anti biotic injection on my buttock and was sent to A & E . Immediate Operation done again, but this time it’s from the external. One week stay, as it’s was quite serious with internal & external wounds. Dressing is to be done twice a day. I was told that the wound will take months to heal. Its one month already and I am still resting at home carrying out dressing twice a day.

They call this “Perianal Abscess” after some glands got infected inside due to constipation. I call it “Pain in the Ass” as I have never gone thru such pain and suffering in my life time.

Dear members do take constipation seriously. Do not force out , instead take “Fibergel” to smoothen it. I am sharing this as I do not want this happen to anyone as only I know what “Pain in the Ass” is like.

  34. Sorry folks was so busy with my month end closing so got not time to finish my posr (#32) so here goes the story….

I was born into a very poor family and after my Sec 4, my (late) dad said that’s enough cuz all my cousins had never made it this far but mum thought I should go further as I gad always been the top 3 in school and was awarded top student and student of the year. After my 2 years in NJC my family could not afford to let me go further, so I thought if I were to work and do some part time study, it may be better off than those who went to the U because I will have more experience by the time my class mates finshed their U. Looking at the classified ads I was very disappointed as most entry level jobs needed experience of some sort but I had none. One day I saw an ad for audit trainee with no experience requiired and decided that this is where I would start and on 1st April 1974 I started my ‘first journey’ into the commercial world.

The starting salary then was $250 per month, yes there was no typo error, its 250 and my first month pay was spent installing a telephone for the family (can still remember the no…805280) so that we need not have to go to my unlce’s hosue o borrow theirs. We still need to go there to watch TV and what was on is what we get to watch ie what you see is what you get….okie now back to the main story

I was assigned to a group to work with an associate of my boss, who was doing the tax and corporate secretarial work while we were doing the audit. He seemed to be quite a nice guy and always take us out for good meals in restaurants.

One day he asked if I wanted to earn some extra money by doing some part-time accounting for him and of course I was glad to do so but he said it was not very convenient to pass the files to me in office as he did not want my boss and colleagues to know about this. One day he told me to go to his house to collect the documents but I was quite hesitant to do so but he assured me that I will not be alone as his secretary will be there too. Being young and gullible then I agreed to do so.

So the day was fixed and I when I knocked on the door, I had quite a shock when the Secretary answered the door. She was so casually dressed in shorts and what looks like a man’s T-shirt (thos worn by the Ah Pek’s the white ones with tiny holes all over). I sort of guess the relationship between the 2 of them and was hoping that I could jsut collect the files and be off but he insisted that I should stay for dinner as he had already cooked for us. Anyway I felt quite ‘safe’ since the secretary was there with us so I agreed to stay for dinner. During the course of the dinner I was hoping we would talked about the accounts but all the time he was talking about how his marriage had gone bad and how his wife had ran away with her mahjong kaki. After dinner, there was desert and still nothing was said about the accounts I was supposed to do. When I had to excused myself to use the toliet, he actually scared the daylight out of me when he said ….”Lock the door propery hor, if not I am coming in hahahahaha”……..yeeeks I legs actually went limp for awhile. At this point I told myself that I had better get out of there as I knew there was not files for me to bring home to work on. He was grinning from ear to ear when I came out of the toilet and I pretended that nothing was amiss and made some small talk with the 2 of them and later made an excuse that I had to go home as my dad was waiting for me at home. Reluctantly he let me off and of course he did not pass me the ‘files’ for me to do the accounting work. I shuddered to think what would have happened if I had stayed on that evening.

Back in office, nothing was mentioned about my weekend visit and life goes on as usual until one day when I spotted and error in one of the accounts we were doing the audit on. The accounts did not balanced because there was a debit entry to purchase but no credit to creditors, so I brought this to his attention. When I told him that to correct the error we would need to credit the same amount to creditor, he said no, I should debit purchases and credit creditors. I told him that’s not correct as by doing so the imbalance will still be there, the only way is jsut to credit creditor. His next comment was “You stupid greenhorn, didn’t your senoir teach you? Is there such a thing as a single entry in accounting? The words “Stupid greenhorn” was more than I can take so I snapped back at him as this was the exact words I said to him…”No there is no such thing as single entry but is there such a thing as TRIPLE entries? You cert (btw he was an chartered accountant) can be flushed down the toilet bowl” ……Boy was he MAD and I was too kekekeke. He then asked for the files and because I was so mad, I slamped the files on the table but it was near the table edge so it fell…he then picked shouted at me to pcik up the file and started tearing the pages off and sent me out of the office.

The next day in the office the boss called me in and told me that Lawrence (yep that was his name) had called to say that I was very rude to him and that I threw files at him in his office and said that 2 of us cannot work together in the same office anymore so either he goes or I go. I explained the situation to the boss and he actaully said that Lawrence was a bit childish but he can’t affod to loose all his clientle. His solution to me was to assign me to do the audit of another company and after that I was to stay on work as a full time staff there. I had no choice so I took the client’s file home and mulled over it for a while and wonder how I was going to start work in another company when I had not even met the ‘new’ boss and did not even have an employment letter. Well I ‘sat’ on it for 2 weeks and went back to the office to pass the files back and told the boss that I did not go on the audi assgnment and had decided not to take the job ‘offer’ too.

I would have cried so hard for loosing a job like that but nope I was very calm and never regretted what I did….in fact that jerk tracked me down to my next job and called me there and I can still remember the words he said to me on the phone…..’So you told Patrick (my e-boss) that I was very childish, yes I am very childish, mama mama I want neh neh’…..Yeeeks what a JERK…

There you go…I started my first job on 1st April, installed my first telephone with my first pay check, was fired from my first job in less than a year because I told a Chartered Accountant to flush his cert down the toilet bowl. Yes I lost somethng import but its my “J” and not the “V” hahahahahaha

Anti climax huh but for me I feel very SHIOK when I recount the incident. I was a ‘greenhorn’ then and yet was gutsy enough to tell a chartered accountant to flush his cert down the toilet bowl….the only bad side was after that incident I told myslef that I do not need qualifacation if I know my job well, so from then on I did not really put in any effort to study for my exams. It was until years later that I realised that a lot of company only look at one’s post qualification experiences and one need that ‘piece of paper’ as an ‘entry ticket’. Yes thank goodness I did finshed my ACCA eventually Had a few more ‘bad’ experiences since then and some even made me cry my eye balls out for all the injustice that was done unto me but on hind sight am glad that these experiences had served to made me to be a stronger person and I always believe things always happen for a (good) reason ;0)

Tian Soo (#39)….End for story and now I can go and sleep and maybe get married in my dream hahahahaha

    Sockie

  35. Sekaran. Good to hear from you again. I shall remember what you say. Thanks

Sockie. All these experiences do make you a better person. I am looking forward to a next chapter in future. Maybe over a cup of coffee.

p/s: btw, how the dream last nite??? arrrrh … jus kidding!

  37. Hi Sekaran

It’s been a really long time since we last heard from you.

I feel your pain as I read thru’ your account. What an ordeal for you as you went thru’ the procedures and the enduring pain.

Besides having fiber in our diet, you may consider taking Probiotics daily to balance the gut and help to improve the bowel movement. This supplement is also good for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or for normal individuals with no constipation or IBS issue.

Go for the good quality types. I take this supplement once a day and when I travel, I hang on to this for dear life as we tend to have the ‘traveller’s bug’ when the food or water does not agree with us on our trip.

    Speedy recovery.

    At last………..Part 2.

I read every word including the spelling errors, kekekekeee.

Good for you to stand up to the asswipe and all the subsequent experiences make you stronger and tougher.

    Go, Gutsy Girlfren!!

  39. Hi Sockie,

Was wondering about your fisrt time too.

After reading about “that first time”, I was both relieved and proud for you.

You were very gutsy and right to stand up to that bully, and being so young too. Way to go!!

  40. Hi Geraldine Ting,

Thankyou. Will take your advice and get the “Probiotics” for the good of me and my family too.

Hi Tian Soo – Hope to see you and my tour kaki’s once I am OK.

  41. Will there always be a first time?

Three decades ago I tried to intoduce my boss to a friend who was an insurance agent. My boss wanted to insure his office building against Fire including “Extraneous Risks” one of which is loss due to earthquake. The agent said there will never be an earthquake in Singapore as history has shown. My boss said he wanted the insurance policy to include earthquake anyway, to which the agent said it will incur a small additional premium. My boss said why extra, since it will never happen. The agent said there is always the possibilty of a “first time”.

Later when we left, my boss said to me ” Wai Jin when I experienced my first time for the last time, don’t send me a wreath, give that money to charity”

  42. Tian Soo (#43)& Charles (#47) – I do have quite a few unpleasant experiences along the way too but it only serves to make me even stronger. One of my subsequent encounter left me so devastated that I cried and cried everytime I talked about it but later to realised that things happened for a (good) reason for me and was actually thankful for what had happened…..and now…I cry no more when I get bullied. I am very flexible but am definitley not a ‘push over’ now :0)

Ivan (#44)- Sorry neh, I don’t kiss and tell hahahahaha

Darling GT (#46) – You were growing old waiting for my part 2 and how can I be so cruel to see you grow another minute older because of me, so I’d rather have people spot my grammar and spelling error than to see any strand of your hair turning grey kakakakaka

    Sockie

  43. Last month i felt my heart pain my knees hurt when cycling back and forth from Ps Ris sport hall. it happened 2 weeks consequently, i wonder why and had to dismount and push the bike.

i was told to heighten the seat as well as to change the speed. i did, but still no energy to move the bicycle forward. i was really puzzled. how come i could smash the shuttle cock for 2 hours non-stop and yet only 5 min into cycling i felt so exhausted?

something must be wrong with the new bike and i told myself not to use it any more the following week.

then…when waiting for the green light at the traffic junction, another cyclist pointed to my rear and said “no air”. what? no ass? how could it be? they are still there when i left the house!

then PING! it hit me. oh gosh so that’s the real problem!! immediately i went to the nearby bicycle kiosk and had the tires pumped and voila i could fly when using it again!!

so, Tian Soo & all: that’s my FIRST time being a newbie cyclist (own the bicycle for about 3 month)

  44. Hi Frisna

Your post #51 is funny. I am laugh with you, not laughing at you.

Your story reminds me of the day I drove down Thomson Road in my van, with the back door wide open. Luckily I had unloaded all my goods.

There were people waving at me and laughing. I thought it was because of my good looks. Then I had to stop at the red light. A young man on a motorbike stopped next to my door and signal me to wind down my window. He then shouted “Your backside is open!!” I looked down and thought, no my backside is seated quite nicely. Then I look up at my rear-view mirror and saw the whole of Thomson Road behind my van.

  45. Hi Tian Soo

    Yours is funny too!

my part-time job is working at telebet. when punters call we need to clarify a/c no etc then ask “what’s the bet type”.

1 day my colleague instead asked “what’s your back size?” i wonder if the punter was laughing or crying having to deal with a new, nervous staff
