IT Interest Group Meeting on 16-03-2012 (Friday)

The objective of this Group is to provide an opportunity for any SHC member to come out for a cup of coffee, chitchat and to share their interests in computer related matters and smart devices. For those interested, it’s a great way to get involved & meet others with similar interests. This gathering will discuss what you want to learn in computer classes and other IT/smart devices related matters. We should avoid the peak hours of these food court outlets and to conduct it on a weekday.

We can also show you how you can surf the Internet even without a computer at home.

We plan to have a small gathering of size not more than 12 SHC members including the EO for an effective and meaningful discussion on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The details:

  • Date :  16-03-2012 (Friday)
  • Venue :  Plaza Singapura Kopitiam Food Court (Level 6).  Nearest MRT – Dhoby Ghaut.
  • Time :  3.00 PM to 5.00 PM

  1. Wow!! Everybody’s bringing his/her tablet… Tian Soo, is there a tablet for you… maybe a blue tablet! Haha!

Hew Lee: What happened to the first group? Is this a repeat of thay? Remember that the place had a lot of ambient noise and not conducive to group discussion and also no wifi spot?

Anyway, I shall be there if only for the coffee and company… and I shall bring along my tablets, too, although not blue!

  2. Paul (#1) & Winnie (#2) – Welcome to the IT Interest Group. Make sure your tablet is fully charged. This Kopitiam FC does not have Wi-Fi unless one of you can provide through your smart phone.

Kenneth (#3) – We are building up the IT interest group. We are compiling a wish list of those members that have given feedback on what they wish to learn. Once we finalize the venue with Wi-Fi (hopefully), we will conduct our lessons. It is not right to conduct lessons in a public FC. Maybe just simple demo and talk only over a cup of coffee or tea.

For those that came during our first meeting, you are welcome to come along again. Please confirm through this post.

Now we have 12 + 1 (Tentative). So registration for this round is closed.
The reason for limiting the numbers is as follows – I hope you understand.

We are using a Public food court space. The longest rectangular table can only sit max 12 persons. If we want everyone to be seated in close proximity around one table (for effective and meaningful discussion), this is the most ideal number.

Furthermore, we would not like to attract attention of the general public.

    Hewlee

  10. Thean Hor (#19)- Now we have more than an ideal number. Anyway it’s ok, welcome Thean Hor and C U. You don’t need to have a tablet to learn IT. Anything that can “compute” is state of the arts toys nowadays. Currently Apple is the winner in this field.

  11. Alamak! I just found that I cannot attend the meeting… kindly give my space to the next one in queue.

Now I cannot show off my Targus computer backpack which I bought for $25.00 on Mocca.com. A good deal!

Have a great meeting and see you guys soon!

  12. Kenneth (#23) – Noted.

  13. Dora Lim (#25) – Welcome Dora. Though the ideal number of 12 has been exceeded, I think it should not be a problem. Only thing is – all the questions raised may not be fully addressed in the 2-hours session.

  14. Would like to participate but it is a week day and it is from 3.00-6.00 pm, a working day. So I cannot participate. What a disappointment.

  15. Jenny Ho (#27) – This IT Interest Group is basically meant for seniors by seniors and is not run commercially (i.e. no course fees, maybe some small share of cost if we rent a function room in condo or other venue for hands-on). If you have some issues of IT related problems troubling you, please provide me with your email address. I will try my best to find a solution for you. I am no IT professional, just interested (as a hobby) and willing to take challenge.

  16. Hi Jenny Ho (#27) – Hope you can join us next time. I am taking half a day leave to join the group, to listen and learn at the same time. This will be my first meeting and a good break from work. Hopefully, I won’t be held up at the office. Fingers & toes crossed.
    Cheers, winnie
