  1. Hi Yew Kwong, that is a very good bicycle rental rate you managed to get $6 for 2 hrs or 3 hrs , good job. Should let more members know about this, and how to go about to get the bicycle rental at this rate ?. As i am thinking of going there now, every weekend either Sat or Sun, maybe training for the next Triathlon 2007.

  2. Hi, I’m new to Silverhairs. Just want to say that I’ve been a regular visitor to Pulau Ubin for many years, and know the island well. I’m also an old friend of the lady who runs Comfort Bicycle Rental (the first bicycle rental shop along the road leading from the Ubin jetty). Let me know if you ever plan another trip to Pulau Ubin – I can serve as your (free) tour guide and can probably get even cheaper bicycle rental rates for groups.

    Cheers,

  3. Hi Ron Koh,

Welcome to SHC. I think the organisers for cycling to Pulau Ubin will be very glad to have your assistance. You mean you can get bicycle rental for even less than $6 for 2 or 3 hours?

There are lots of activities going on at SHC. You should just check out the website. Do you like badminton, social dancing, walking, cycling? – these are on-going. It’s a pity Talentime this Sat. is already full. There is an investment talk on 3/12/07 and D&D in March,08.

    See you around.

If we are not too picky, and don’t insist on new bicycles, I don’t see why not. The lady is a family friend, and I do get ‘special treatment’ whenever I need a bicycle on Ubin. She keeps her rental bicycles in good working condition. (Disclaimer: I am not related to the lady in anyway and have no vested interest in Comfort Bicycle Rental Co.)

There is a lot to see on the island. I usually go with a childhood friend (now newly retired) and spend full days there.

I’m also very much involved in origami, and am quite well-known among members of the international origami community. Some of my origami can be seen at http://design.origami.free.fr/bestof/koh/index.htm
Perhaps this is another activity that could be introduced to members of SHC if there is interest.

    Cheers,

    Ron

  5. Hi Ron Koh,

Your origami is beautiful, everything seems so lifelike.
I tried it some time back, but it was hopeless. I guess I didn’t crease the foldings well. Anyway, anytime you are ready to hold classes let me know. I am sure there will be many interested.

  6. Sorry, everyone:

I jumped the gun and began posting before reading the FAQs and introducing myself.

I am recently retired, and now spend much of my time on origami, which has been a life-long hobby. Besides origami and getting in everybody’s way, I also enjoy biking on Pulau Ubin, outdoor life in general, and outdoor photography (at which I am positively lousy).

    Note:

I posted a link earlier to a website where my origami is featured, not knowing that this is not allowed. My apologies again.

    L H Jie:

Thanks for your kind compliments. There is a lot more to origami than most people realise, but once you understand the basics and are sufficiently patient, it really isn’t that difficult.

  7. Hi RonK,

Have to add that K to your name. We have to differentiate between the many Ronalds we have as members. Same as Marys, Dennises, Edwins etc..etc.. There are, to name a few Rons……..Lai, Lee, Wi. It gets a little confusing sometimes. Anyway we get sorted out after a time.

There is really no hard and fast rule…origami after all is your hobby, and if you are inclined to hold classes for it, Welcome.

  8. Hi Ron Koh,

If you look at #2, that’s where I made the comment on the bicycle rental rates.

To tell you the truth, I am also very new to SHC and have been to Pulau Ubin once ages ago, but not with SHCians. I think the person involved in this cycling activity is Yew Kwong.

There are many SHCians with the name of Ron, Ronald and that’s why we have to type in your surname, as LH Jie mentioned. You must be a very patient person with skillful hands to do origami. Anyway, welcome to SHC.

  9. Wow, e SHC members are growing in numbers. Wif so many members having e same names, it cld be headaches at times remembering their names correctly.

I wld suggest we tag their surnames after their names. Y leh??? Because sometimes it cld be embarrasing if we din realise e meaning of it after conveiently adding an alphabet.

    Xamples : Ben Goh n Ben Teng. Ben+G = Beng. Ben+T = Bent.
